Wrong Mouse Pointer for Adjustment Brush with Image on External Drive

Adjustment brush guide "circles" is not visible when hovering over the image. It is only visible when you are to the side of the image in the gray space. This only happens when I am using Lightroom from my external drive. It does not happen from the local copy.

After some research, the brush preset I created happened to have the same settings as "skin smooth +" in Lightroom, which is the one it kept switching to.  Perhaps that was the problem...

  • Can I Move the Anchor Point for Adjustment Brush in ACR CS5

It's never been a problem before, but the anchor point for the Adjustment Brush in ACR is sitting exactly where I need to see what is happening.  I can delete and start again, but if there is way to move or hide the anchor point while stil being able to adjust the setting, it would be handy to know for next time it happens.

  • Adjustment brush with exposure setting cancels noise reduction

    Hello,
I just noticed the following problem:
    1) Camera Raw 6.5; Bridge CS5 (4.0.5.11); Mac OS X 10.6.8; Mac Pro 3,1; Dual Quad-Core Xeon; 8GB RAM.
    2) Start with a noisy raw file (mine is from a Canon 5D II).
    3) Apply Noise Reduction (Luminance:30; Lum Detail:75; Lum Contrast:0; Color:25; Color Detail:50).
    4) Go to Adjustment Brush and set a non-zero Exposure value.
    5) Apply brush to image and notice the Noise Reduction effects disappear (noise returns).
    6) Click Clear All button to clear Adjustment Brush and Noise Reduction works again.
This seems to only happen with Adjustment Brushes with a non-zero Exposure value (applying brightness or other settings don't seem to produce the problem).
    Anyone else seeing this?
    Thanks!

    Richard (and others),
Yes, very good idea to check that. The problem does indeed get applied to the full sized, opened image as well as to the display previews. After working with this more, I now notice that I was wrong to say that the entire noise reduction is cancelled - rather it "changes", sometimes subtly, sometimes more dramatically depending on what the noise reduction settings are set to. Further, how dramatic the "changes" appear depend greatly on the preview zoom (the changes are more subtle at 100%, but it can look like the noise reduction is completely turned off at 50% and 66%).
Now I realize that the noise reduction does not ordinarily display at all preview sizes (especially smaller ones), but this is different. At preview sizes where it does normally get applied, applying an adjustment brush with any non-zero exposure value (even just +0.05) can have the appearance that the NR is completely turned off for the whole image. Simply nudging the exposure value back to zero brings all the noise reduction back.
Also, to be clearer and avoid confusion for others, the change in noise I'm seeing is not localized to just the brushed spot. Obviously if one increases exposure, you'd expect to potentially see more noise. Instead, what I'm seeing happens to the entire image, even if I simply paint a single small brush dot, say in a far corner. Having the image change globally in response to painting a small spot with the adjustment brush cannot be a correct result. Further, this does not happen with any of the other adjustment brush settings like brightness, contrast or saturation. There must be something unique about the exposure setting that perhaps introduces a new step into the processing pipeline, and this step is affecting the entire image.
In any case, the problem only seems to be an issue in somewhat extreme cases and is less noticeable at 100% (and the finally opened image). It's more just annoying when previews are generated for viewing in Bridge, for example.
I suppose one alternative might be to rob a bank and go buy one of those new 1D X's. Then maybe I wouldn't have to worry about noise anymore.
    Thanks for the responses!

  • Any recommendations for a recovery software for my lost photos on my external drive?

Would like recommendations for a reputable recovery software for my lost photos from my external drive that I used with my MacBook Pro.

    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.

  • Wrong sort order for rapid sequences of images

When I have a sequence of shots taken at high speed, i.e. a number of them have the same timestamp, being taken within the same second, I find that LR displays some of them out of order. For instance, I have a sequence of 5 frames all with timestamp 9/4/07 2:17:32pm and the file names show up in this order - 1740, 1742, 1741, 1743, 1744 (these are the file names assigned by the camera)
The frames show in this order with any of the sort order options selected except, of course, File Name, and in that one instance they display in the correct order.
Is there a way I can specify in LR that I want to sort in Capture Time order then within that in file name order? This would give me the result I want. The reason I don't want to simply use file name order is that with images from different cameras with differing file naming conventions, or with file names I may have applied, that would not give me correct time sequence as shot. I want to see a whole day's images in correct time sequence regardless of file name.
If there is not a way to specify this in LR, should I add this to the Feature Request list?

Capture Time and Import Order do the same thing.
Additional information - I see the same wrong sequence is presented in the import dialog when I try to import the same photos again (they happen to still be on the card). So, I think it is initially caused by the order that the camera lays down the photos in the file structure on the card, or in the way that Windows reads them off the disk. (I have a Canon EOS 30D, SanDisk CF card, using a card reader rather than plugging the camera to the PC.)
If I use the import dialog's renaming process (in my test I chose filename - sequence) and apply a sequence number to the images the sequence number ends up wrong. So LR is importing the photos in the wrong order (may not be LR's fault?)
So, this modifies the definition of the problem and of the feature request. No longer is it simply the sort order displayed in the library; it needs to be addressed at import time as well.
Here is my attempt to redefine the feature request:
    - when importing images that are taken in rapid sequence (multiple shots within the same second) LR should allow for sorting the images by camera-derived file name to correct out-of-sequence delivery from the card/camera. This sort order, when selected, should re-arrange the preview thumbnails so the photographer can verify the images will be imported in the correct order.

  • White Balance pipette request for adjustment brushes

Just a suggestion in the hope that this gets introduced..
could we have the white balance sample pipette on the adjustment brush so that it is even easier to apply localised colour correction?
    Cheers
    Scot

I imagine sample white balance from an image means the same for localised adjustment brushes as it does when using the white balance pipette in the Basic panel.
click the white balance pipette or shortcut key W... move the pipette over an area you expect to be colour neutral, click and voila.. (Temp & Tint sliders adjusted to a neutral balance)
at least that is what I would hope to happen

  • Keyboard shortcut for adjusting exposure causes image to black out for a short time.

    Hi everyone,
I have always used the mouse and slider for adjust things in the develop module. I know started using the keyboard shortcuts for faster editing as sugested by everyone and I do like it.  My problem is when i adjust any slider with the + or - keys my picture completely blacks out for a moment then comes back with the adjustment made.  This is frustrating and completely defeats the purpose of using keyboard shortcuts for speed.
The only changes I made is I upgraded from a very old dell dimensions computer to a new alienware X51 computer.  I am using lightroom 4.4 64bit and a HDMI connection to my monitor.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time.

    Cj,
My guess that there is some other hot keys attached to '+' & '-' keys on your keyboard.
Try to put your system in clean boot and try to launch Lightroom and see if the issue still occurs.
If you dont get the issue any more go ahead and isolate the app which is causing issue by following divide and rule method on the apps.

  • Captivate 8 Edit mouse points for video demo not available??

    Hello,
I've been trying to fig out how to enable mouse point editing for a video demo in Captivate 8. I know in previous versions it was simply edit >>> mouse points and even documentation I've read states its the same for captivate 8 but when I go to the edit menu I don't' have an option for edit mouse points. this is in both Mac and PC version. I did find the options adding a mouse to the recording but that doesn't help with editing the actual mouse in the video.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

After a little more experimentation I see that this feature is only available in a .cpvc not a .cptx. with a video in it.

  • Lethargic adjustment brush with auto mask on

    Hello everyone ...
I am a new to this forum. I've been hanging out as an observer and have decided to get my feet wet with my first posting.
I'm a wedding photographer and have been a Lightroom user since the first beta release and totally love the program. I am using a mac G5 dual 2.7 with 6 GB of ram. Up until release 1.4 Lightroom has been great.
Release 2.0 has been another story. I have installed all updates including the newly released 2.1. It appears there is still an issue with the adjustment brush. If I use the brush without 'auto mask' the brush flows smoothly. As soon as 'auto mask' is engaged the tool becomes useless. The flow is slow and choppy, plus I have to contend with an almost constant spinning beach ball.
Has anyone else been experiencing this problem? Is there a fix? Or, might this be an issue that Adobe is still working on.
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to introduce myself and any help with this issue would be most appreciated.
    Thanks ... Fred

From the Known Issues sections of the release notes:
    >We are still working on additional methods to improve the performance of the new Localized Correction features.
As you've already observed, leaving the Auto Mask off is the best way of avoiding poor brush performance.

  • Jerky mouse pointer for migrated user

I've upgraded my old MacBook Air to a MacBook Pro with Retina display and now I have a weird problem with a jerky mouse pointer. Certain applications (like Photoshop CS5.5 or VmWare Fusion 5) cause the mouse pointer to move jerky on the screen (it looks like there are 3 mouse pointers, about one inch apart on the screen). This only happens with a user migrated with Migration Assistant. I created a new user on the same computer, and the new user doesn't have the issue. I tried repairing the permissions and clearing the caches to no avail. Next step will be moving the applications preferences. I tried to search for this problem online but, apparently, nobody else is experiencing it. Any other ideas/suggestions?

Apparently the issue is gone after restarting the system in Safe Mode.

  • Wrong mouse pointer when using VNC

    Hi.
I have installed Arch Linux v3.7.8 on to a VMWare virtual machine and configured VNC for remote access.
However, when accessed via VNC (using KRDC) and I open firefox for example I don't get a proper mouse pointer that allows me to select links, buttons or menus. The only pointer I get is a double headed arrow (left/right).
If I do the same action via the vSphere Client console everything works as expected.
Is anyone familiar with this and able to help me solve this please?
    Bill

Gusar wrote:If only KRDC has the issue and other clients don't (did you try others besides vSphere?), then the issue is in KRDC. So report it to them.
    Hi Gusar,
Thanks for the reply. It's been tested with Windows VNC Client and that too has the same issue as KRDC so I'm suspecting it's a VNC Server (configuration) issue. So not to sure how to proceed.

  • Change mouse pointer for Assessment Simulation

    Hi there-
I have an assessment simulation - and I need the users mouse
pointer to change to a crosshair (I think that's what it's called)
when the mouse is over a certain area on the screen. Is there
anyway to do this? I know it can be done in a demonstration for the

Authorware allows access to the system's mouse 'library', but
    it also
allows full Windows File System access too...which could have
    security
issues. So it's certainly possible...but, agreed, who knows
    whether such
functionality would be integrated into CP.
