Wrong number or types of parameters after upgrading to ODP 11.2.0.1.1 Beta

Hi,
I have the below Oracle procedure with two parameters , the first one i IS TABLE OF number INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER, and the second one is of type Ref cursor of predifned RECORD type.
PROCEDURE Proc1(p_proj_comp_no_list IN core_util.ref_t,
p_proj_comp_post_query_cursor OUT t_proj_comp_post_query_cursor
) IS
This has been working fine while we were using DEVART Oracle drivers. however, as soon we move to ODP 11.2.0.1.1 Beta version we get the below error while executing the procedure via ODP.
{"ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:\nPLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'PROJ_COMP_POST_QUERY'\nORA-06550: line 1, column 7:\nPL/SQL: Statement ignored"}
Below is the debug watch result of the two parameters of the COMMAND being executed.
Best Regards,
Prabhakar

Hi,
Can you please show the actual code that creates and appends the parameters instead, along with cmd.commandtext?
Thanks
Greg

Also note that unless you're using Oracle Developer Tools for VS to generate the code, this would probably be more appropriate in the ODP forum:

  • Call to Package Procedure fails with wrong number or type of parameters

    I think its getting to the correct package and procedure since if I change the name slightly, I get an error about it not being defined.
    Here is my Parameter set up:
    OracleParameter[] theParams = new OracleParameter[26];
    theParams[0] = new OracleParameter("P1",OracleDbType.Char,2);
    theParams[1] = new OracleParameter("P2", OracleDbType.Char, 12);
    theParams[2] = new OracleParameter("P3", OracleDbType.Char, 12);
    theParams[3] = new OracleParameter("P4", OracleDbType.Char, 12);
    theParams[4] = new OracleParameter("P5", OracleDbType.Double);
    theParams[5] = new OracleParameter("P6", OracleDbType.Char, 12);
    theParams[6] = new OracleParameter("P7", OracleDbType.Char, 12);
    theParams[7] = new OracleParameter("P8", OracleDbType.Char, 12);
    theParams[8] = new OracleParameter("P9", OracleDbType.Char, 10);
    theParams[9] = new OracleParameter("P10", OracleDbType.Char, 3);
    theParams[10] = new OracleParameter("P11", OracleDbType.Char, 2);
    theParams[11] = new OracleParameter("P12", OracleDbType.Char, 2);
    theParams[12] = new OracleParameter("P13", OracleDbType.Char, 2);
    theParams[13] = new OracleParameter("P14", OracleDbType.Char, 6);
    theParams[14] = new OracleParameter("P15", OracleDbType.Char, 6);
    theParams[15] = new OracleParameter("P16", OracleDbType.Varchar2);
    theParams[16] = new OracleParameter("P17", OracleDbType.Char, 2);
    theParams[17] = new OracleParameter("P18", OracleDbType.Char, 16);
    theParams[17].Direction = System.Data.ParameterDirection.Output;
    theParams[18] = new OracleParameter("P19", OracleDbType.Char, 12);
    theParams[18].Direction = System.Data.ParameterDirection.Output;
    theParams[19] = new OracleParameter("P20", OracleDbType.Varchar2, 12);
    theParams[20] = new OracleParameter("P21", OracleDbType.Varchar2);
    theParams[21] = new OracleParameter("P22", OracleDbType.Char, 2);
    theParams[22] = new OracleParameter("P23", OracleDbType.Char, 2);
    theParams[23] = new OracleParameter("P24", OracleDbType.Char, 2);
    theParams[24] = new OracleParameter("P25", OracleDbType.Char, 2);
    theParams[25] = new OracleParameter("P26", OracleDbType.Char, 2);
    Now the problem is that the package definition is declared using types from database table columns, for the most part.
    So for those, I used the real types of those columns, like for CHAR(2) I used OracleDbType.Char with length 2.
    There are just a few odd balls that I'm not sure about.
    For new OracleParameter("P5", OracleDbType.Double);, this is a parameter defined usijng a column type, that is NUMBER(8). Not sure what to use here.
    For the line theParams[15] = new OracleParameter("P16", OracleDbType.Varchar2);, the parameter definition for the procedure parameter is VARCHAR2. So I used that with no length specified. Is that correct?
    The oddest is this one, theParams[19] = new OracleParameter("P20", OracleDbType.Varchar2, 12);, where the procedure parameter is defined as a type from another package. That in turn is defined as a RECORD:
    TYPE t_log_rec IS RECORD (
    log_seq t_handle -- VARCHAR2(12)
    and t_handle is defined in terms of another table column, and that is defined as VARCHAR2(12).
    Any help on how to map those Oracle types back to .Net Oracle data types and parameter definitions is appreciated.

    PLSQL Record types cannot be passed directly via OCI (read client) apps, and can only be instantiated/passed from other PLSQL procedures.
    You could create a wrapper procedure in the database that accepts all scalar types, which then converts the varchar2 into a t_log_rec and then calls the "real" procedure.
    Or, you could instantiate a t_log_rec inside an anonymous block and call the real procedure via that anonymous block.
    Varchar2 parameters need size defined. When you assign an IN param a value, size is implicitly defined. OUT parameters need to have size explicitly defined.
    Hope it helps
    Greg

  • SSRS 2008 R2 calls Oracle stor proc produces error invalid number or type of parameters

    Hi,
    Our Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) version 2008 R2 reports have been working for years. They retrieve data from stored procedures on an Oracle 11 DB using the Oracle 11 Client. After the Oracle Client on the SSRS server was upgraded from version 11 to 12, none of the reports work anymore.
    Trying to open any report in IE displays the following error:
    Query execution failed for dataset 'ds_MyDataset'. ---> System.Data.OracleClient.OracleException:
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'usp_MyOracleStoredProc'
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PL/SQL: Statement ignored
    The simplest example we're using to troubleshoot the problem is a report that has no parameters, which calls an Oracle stored procedure which has no input parameters, and only 1 output parameter (of type "Ref Cursor", the one Oracle needs in order to return the resultset). Even this simple report produces the error shown above.
    I placed a "debugging aid" inside the body of the stored procedure, a SQL insert statement to log to a table, so I can see if the body of the procedure's being executed at all. It never runs. That leads me to think that the error occurs before executing the procedure, when SSRS is probably using something like DeriveParameters() to detect the number and type of parameters the procedure has.
    This leads me to think that when SSRS detects which parameters the Oracle procedure has, the Oracle Client returns 1 parameter (the output cursor). SSRS looks at the number of parameters defined in the report's dataset, and it finds zero b/c the output cursor parameter Oracle uses to return the data doesn't need or can't be defined in SSRS. Then SSRS compares 1 <> 0, and displays the error.
    So, in order to test, I removed the output parameter (the one of type "Ref Cursor") from the Oracle stored procedure, and then the report runs, and the body of the procedure gets executed. There are no errors, but no data b/c the output cursor parameter has being removed from the Oracle procedure.
    This leads me to think that in this case, when SSRS detects which parameters the Oracle procedure has, the Oracle Client returns zero parameters. SSRS looks at the number of parameters defined in the report's dataset, and it matches b/c there aren't any, so SSRS proceeds to execute the procedure.
    Could there be a "miscommunication" between SSRS 2208 R2 and Oracle Client 12 in reference to the number of parameters, b/c with Client 11 all reports work, but with 12 none works?
    Any help with this matter will be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Richard

    Our Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) version 2008 R2 reports have been working for years. They retrieve data from stored procedures on an Oracle 11 DB using the Oracle 11 Client. Havent' run across that one before but it sounds like more of a problem with SSRS than anything to do with Oracle.
    But what you posted above raises the obvious question: WHY?
    Why did you upgrad the Oracle client to 12c to begin with if you are still using an Oracle 11g database? Major upgrades like that are normally done for very specific reasons so what were they?
    I suggest you test by reinstalling the 11g client and get your reports working again.
    Also - did you install the new version of ODAC to support the new Oracle client? There could be a compatibility issue if you are using a new Oracle client but the older ODAC version.
    ODAC 12c Release 2 installation instructions
    You also need to make sure the bit versions (32 vs 64 bit) match.

    It seems like the semantic checks for comparison expression "trade.volume>10" is failing.
    Kindly make sure that trade.volume is CQL native "int" type.

    That's probably your problem.

  • PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call in a for loop

    Dear all
    I recently put up another post about the same error message but as the message now relates to another part of my programme and, in my mind at least, a different conceptual idea, I thought I should start a new top. If that is not right thing to have done then please let me know. I am working in 10.2.
    I am trying to pass through multiple variables. When I run the code at the end of this question I get an error message:
    PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'CUR_MAP_LIST'This relates to the line:
    FOR var_map_list IN cur_map_list (par_map_list (n))I think the reason the error message comes up is because par_map_list is a associate array / PL/SQL table and cur_map_list is based on %rowtype. Although I could be wrong. However I am not sure what I should be doing so that I don't get such an error message.
    I was reading through page 623 on Web Development 9i (by Brown; pub. McGrew-Hill) and pages 357-358 of Oracle Web Application Programming for PL/SQL Developers (by Boardman, Caffrey, Morse, Rosenzweig; pub. Prentice Hall), in order to try and write my code. As well as Oracle's Application Developer’s Guide - Fundamentals (Release 2), page 11-6. In particular the Web Development book uses the following:
    create or replace procedure query_department
    (in_dept_no owa_util.ident_arr)
    is
    cursor dept_cursor (nbt_dept_no emp.deptno%TYPE) is
    select empno, ename, mgr, sal, comm
    from scott.emp
    where deptno = nbt_dept_no;
    begin
      for x in 1 .. in_dept_no.count loop
        for dept_rec in dept_cursor(in_dept_no (x)) loop
        end loop;
      end loop;
    end;In that example the cursor selects empno, ename, mgr, sal and comm from emp. So if it is doing that the cursor must be of a VARCHAR2 and NUMBER data type. What I don't understand is the for dept_rec in part. For a start I am not sure where dept_rec comes from? If it is a NUMBER data type, how can the in_dept_no, which is a owa_util.ident_arr associate array / PL/SQL data type work with it. Unfortunately because the example is incomplete and doesn't include procedures relating to the in variables, I am unable to run it and try and learn from what it is doing, so that I can try and relate the concept to my own work.
    My programme is as follows. There may be other errors in the code not relating to this error. If so I hope to find these and resolve them once I understand what I should be doing here:

    Dear everyone
    I have now resolved the problems I was having with multiple values and checkboxes, thanks to comments in this thread, read large chucks of Oracle PL/SQL Programming by Steve Feuerstein and suddenly realising where I am going wrong in terms of thinking.
    For a start, I when I was dealing with the multiple values, I was trying to get PL/SQL to pass them out. Of course this is done by the action part of the input form. Although I have not done much web coding, I did know about this. However because I was so engrossed in trying to understand how multiple values work, I didn't relate the two ideas. I even mind mapping the problem and still didn't get it.
    I also did not think to change my the action from post command to get, so that I could see what was coming out. However that would not have made too much of a difference because the other problem I had was related to where sub programmes were declared. The function which received the values was privately declared, and not in the package spec. This meant the web browser could not find the function as that can only make use of the programmes declared publicly.
    Once I made these changes, as well as correcting other minor typing mistakes, the values passed through as expected. The only other mistake I made was to include the name option after the submit input type. In my case I did not need to submit the value of that button. The revised code is as follows. In this version I replaced the function with a procedure that simply prints the checkbox values to screen. I have also made the input form action get, instead of post, so that the values can be seen in the web browser address bar:
    create or replace

  • Wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'P_RETRIEVE_OPPTY_ORDER_STATU

    I have been strucK at a point in invoking the procedure which has a boolean parameter which when called from java program get error saying that "wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'P_RETRIEVE_OPPTY_ORDER_STATUS'". the procedure is given below along with the calling java code , and the Errors.
    If i change the parameter data type to VARCHAR2 (the parameter hilighted in red) in the in the procedure and invoke it with the same method it works fine, even if i change the "callableStatement.setBoolean(1, true); to callableStatement.setInt(1, 1); it works fine.When i call it with setting the boolean to the procedure from my java i get a error. Im really confused whether is this a issue with oracle? or with java code.
    Please can any body suggest me any kind of solution! to over come this scenario.

    Hi YoungWinston,
    I realy appriciate your comments on the standard of the code , i also accept procedure and code may not be readable,
    but the problem is not because of bloated call its just beacause of the Boolean parameter being passed throught the java code, and where as the SQL/PL does not allow BOOLEAN as paramater, please refer the below link for justification.
    what am expecting is , is there any solution to this problem (not a work arround solution).
    Please provide me with some sort of solution/hints or suggestions in achieving this solution,
    I would realy your effort
    Thanks
    ud

    Predefined PL/SQL BOOLEAN Data Type
    The BOOLEAN data type stores logical values, which you can use in logical operations. The logical values are the Boolean values TRUE and FALSE and the value NULL.
    The syntax for specifying an BOOLEAN data item is:
    BOOLEAN
    SQL has no data type equivalent to BOOLEAN; therefore you cannot use BOOLEAN variables or parameters in the following:
    SQL statements
    Built-in SQL functions (such as TO_CHAR)
    PL/SQL functions invoked from SQL statements
    You cannot insert the value TRUE or FALSE into a database column. You cannot retrieve the value of a database column into a BOOLEAN variable.
    To represent BOOLEAN values in output, use IF-THEN or CASE constructs to translate BOOLEAN values into another type (for example, 0 or 1, 'Y' or 'N', 'true' or 'false').

  • Oracle XML Gateway- Mapping XML to Oracle Apps API - Wrong Number or types

    XML GATEWAY INBOUND – CALLING AN API (PL/SQL record type IN variable) TO INSERT THE DATA INTO SAMPLE TABLE
    Hi,
    I am using XML Gateway to push data into Oracle Apps using a procedure call with “Record Type” as the parameter. I am getting a “wrong number” or types of arguments mismatch error inspite of following the process described in the Oracle XML Gateway User’s Guide
    Steps followed:
    DB
    1. I Created a sample table XX_CUST_HIST(ID NUMBER, ACCOUNT_NAME VARCHAR2(50), FIRST_NAME VARCHAR2(50), LAST_NAME VARCHAR2(50), TITLE VARCHAR2(50))
    2. I then Created a package ‘XX_XML_DEMO_API’ in which we have defined a record type and a procedure.
    3. The Record type ‘customerRecordType’ holds account_name , first_name, last_name and the title.
    4. The Procedure ‘insert_customer_r’ takes 2 IN arguments :
    1. p_ id number
    2. p_customer customerRecordType
    5. The procedure will insert the values into xx_cust_hist table
    p_id -> id
    p_customer.account_name -> account_name
    p_customer.first_name -> first_name
    p_customer.last_name -> last_name
    p_customer.title -> title
    Now I need to call the procedure ‘XX_XML_DEMO_API . insert_customer_r’ from XML gateway.
    Following are the steps to call the procedure:
    [1] Create DTD
    ELEMENT NEW_CUSTOMER_APIR (DATAAREA)
    ELEMENT DATAAREA (CUSTOMER_DATA)
    ELEMENT CUSTOMER_DATA (ID, CUSTOMER_RECORD)
    ELEMENT ID (#PCDATA) ELEMENT CUSTOMER_RECORD (ACCOUNT_NAME, FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME, TITLE)
    ELEMENT ACCOUNT_NAME (#PCDATA)
    ELEMENT FIRST_NAME (#PCDATA)
    ELEMENT LAST_NAME (#PCDATA)
    ELEMENT TITLE (#PCDATA)
    [2] Creation of XML map Data Definition type for Source and Destination are set to XML.
    While executing the procedure ‘XX_XML_DEMO_API . insert_customer_r’ in post_process from the message designer, instead of 2 (p_id IN number , p_customer IN customerRecordType) parameters it is showing 6 parameters (p_id IN number, p_customer IN customerRecordType, account_name IN varchar2, first_name IN varchar2, last_name IN varchar2, title IN varchar2). Six parameters are getting mapped, instead of the 2 that the procedure really needs.
    [3] Testing of XML map. Error message in transaction monitor:
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'INSERT_CUSTOMER_R' ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PL/SQL: Statement ignored -
    ECX_ACTIONS.BIND_PROC_VARIABLES
    The process executed and produced the error message given in the step 3. The standard documentation is unclear on how this should be done. Being a newbie to the XML Gateway technology I am unable to get a clue about what the error message could be and which step of the process produced the message. Could anyone help me to proceed further?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Siva,
    It seems like the walletkey property of event type is defined incorrectly. Please try by defining the event as follows:
    <wlevs:property name="walletkey" type="char" length="20"/>
    Use "char" instead of "char[]".

  • PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call

    Hi,
    Oracle9i
    created a procedure which will retrieve the records.
    As the procedure is to only retrieve the records so it does not have any IN parameters
    But on executing the procedure gets the below error:
    PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'GET_PRODUCT_DETAILS'
    I have called the procedure as below:
    =======================
    Declare
    v_cur ...%type;
    BEGIN
    Package_name.GET_PRODUCT_DETAILS(v_cur);
    END;
    Procedure Body
    ==========
    create or replace PROCEDURE GET_PRODUCT_DETAILS( v_cur OUT      Cursor)
    is
    begin
    end;
    /

    Try creating the procedure with the out parameter as sys_refcursor.
    create or replace PROCEDURE GET_PRODUCT_DETAILS( v_cur OUT sys_refCursor)
    And declare the variable in your outer block also as sys_refcursor.
    Declare
    v_cur sys_refcursor;
    BEGIN
    Package_name.GET_PRODUCT_DETAILS(v_cur);
    END;
    Of course this would require that your actual procedure GET_PRODUCT_DETAILS should have a statement like
    " open V_cur for some select statement that you use to retrieve the records".
    You could also create GET_PRODUCT_DETAILS with the same %type decalration which you use in the outer block
    eg
    create or replace PROCEDURE GET_PRODUCT_DETAILS( v_cur OUT x.y%type)
    Declare
    v_cur x.y%type;
    BEGIN
    Package_name.GET_PRODUCT_DETAILS(v_cur);
    END;

  • ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments

    I am getting an error:
    "ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'XYZ' ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PL/SQL: Statement ignored".
    Stored Procedure:
    PROCEDURE XYZ
    (ip_number IN NUMBER,
    op_error_code OUT NUMBER,
    op_error_text OUT VARCHAR2,
    ret_cursor OUT OUT_CURSOR);
    In the procedure I am selecting a details from few tables with respect to the input parameter 'ip_number'.
    VB Code:
    strConnectionString = CONNECTION_STRING
    Set objConnection = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
    objConnection.Open strConnectionString
    Set objCommand = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Command")
    With objCommand
    .ActiveConnection = objConnection
    .CommandType = adCmdStoredProc
    End With
    With objCommand
    .CommandText = "Pkg_1.XYZ"
    .Parameters.Append objCommand.CreateParameter_
    ("ip_ipnumber",adNumeric,adParamInput,8,strIPNumber)
    .Parameters.Append objCommand.CreateParameter_
    ("op_error_code",adNumeric,adParamOutput,10)
    .Parameters.Append objCommand.CreateParameter_
    ("op_error_text",adVarChar,adParamOutput,512)
    Set RS = .Execute()
    End With
    Its working fine with ASP(VB)+ Oracle9i + Windows2000.
    But in ASP(VB) + Oracle 8.1.7 + Windows2000, its giving this error:
    "ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'XYZ' ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PL/SQL: Statement ignored".
    Please help.

    Your procedure has 4 parameters 1 in and 3 out parameter
    whereas in your VB code
    Parameters.Append objCommand.CreateParameter_
    ("ip_ipnumber",adNumeric,adParamInput,8,strIPNumber)
    .Parameters.Append objCommand.CreateParameter_
    ("op_error_code",adNumeric,adParamOutput,10)
    .Parameters.Append objCommand.CreateParameter_
    ("op_error_text",adVarChar,adParamOutput,512)
    There are only 3 parameter added where is the 4 th one ?
    With Warm Regards
    SSR

  • Encounter PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments issue

    I came across a issue of PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments when I tried to call a stored procedure through Toplink ValueReadquery.
    The full error message is:
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'FREEZE_REGISTERS'
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PL/SQL: Statement ignored
    Error Code: 6550
    Call:BEGIN FREEZE_REGISTERS(REGISTRATION_DETAIL_in=>1951, RESERVE_USER_in=>'aUser', RESERVE_BUSINESS_CHANNEL_in=>0, RESERVE_TOKEN_in=>1, RESERVE_DATE_in=>{ts '2007-08-03 10:49:25.39'}, BUSINESS_FUNC_ID_in=>1, UPDATE_COUNT_out=>?); END;
         bind => [=> UPDATE_COUNT_out]
    Query:ValueReadQuery() ..............
    The SP was compiled successfully:
    create or replace
    Procedure FREEZE_REGISTERS

    VERSION_NO = (VERSION_NO + 1),
    RESERVE_DATE = RESERVE_DATE_in,
    RESERVE_TOKEN = RESERVE_TOKEN_in

    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    raise_application_error(-20001,'An error was encountered - '||SQLCODE||' -ERROR- '||SQLERRM);
    END;
    However, when I tried to call it in the toplink, I always got that error message. I'd compared the dataType for input values and they are compatible with the arguments defined in the SP.
    I have no any clue for this problem. Please help.

    How are you set the parameters/adding arguments to the ValueReadQuery, can you post the code used to create and execute the query?
    Regards,
    Chris
