Wrong palette in Appearance panel?

I've setup a document template, specifying the color mdoel as CMYK. To check it is OK, I did a File, New from Template, chose my template and checked the File > Document Color mode. It correctly says CMYK.
Then I drew a rectangle, went to the Appearance panel, and clicked on the little white square next to Fill: . A mini palette opens up, but when I hover the mouse over a color swatch, it pops-up RGB values!  However, if I shift-click that little white square next to Fill:, I correctly get shown CMYK sliders.  Why is the little palette popping-up RGB values when the document is defined from the start as being in CMYK mode?  (Note: I'm sure that hovering over the palette was popping-up CMYK values some time ago....)
In searching for an answer I've seen references to "the default startup profile", but have no idea where this is or how to adjust its settings (if it's relevant anyway).

I believe this is what you're searching for... I stand to be corrected if it's not.

  • Auto-select field after clicking link inside Appearance panel

Before Illustrator CC 2014, when I clicked on a link inside the appearance window, the corresponding field would auto select. This made for a more efficient workflow. But now for some reason this has disappeared and I miss it! Hey Illustrator team, can you guys add it back in the next release?
    How to reproduce:
Click on Opacity in the Appearance panel > "mini" opacity panel opens.
Opacity field should be selected so all the user has to do is click up or down arrows on their keyboard.
Just something small I noticed after I upgraded to CC 2014. Not a big deal honestly, but a small regression.

  • Appearance Panel blank in CC 2014 latest update

When I open the appearance panel, with an object selected which has fills, strokes and a drop shadow, the appearance panel is blank. The panel appears, the fly-out menu is functional, but nothing else is there, just gray. Screenshot below:
Is this a bug, or something I can fix? I'd like to edit my drop shadow, but the only way I can do that is to clear the appearance and start all over again.

    jmunn,
Have you upgraded to Yosemite recently, and if so have you reinstalled CC2014 (possibly in the full three step way) after that?
Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

If not the latter, it may be worth trying.

  • Stroke not showing up in Appearance panel?

I have a word I typed out and applied a stroke to it, but the stroke doesnt show up in the appearance panel. Whats up with that? I'm trying to apply 2 strokes but the one doesnt even show up in the appearance panel.
    CS2
    Any thoughts?

Attributes (fill/stroke) and effects (drop shadow or whatever) can be applied at the layer level, the object level, the group level or in the case of type, the character level.  Effects can also be applied one deeper, on the stroke or the fill itself.
If you're not seeing the attributes that are on your object (in this case the stroke) I'll betcha it's applied to some other level than what you're looking at.
You can drill down within the appearance panel by double-clicking on "characters" or "contents" (depending on what you're working on)  You can back out, by double-clicking on the things at the top of your appearance panel, which will change, based on where you are in the stack.
Three views of the same group:
At the group layer, my 3-d effect.
At the type layer, my fill and strokes.
And in this case, at the character level, nothin'.
In this case, it's set up to allow a 3-d effect to play on multiple sizes of type with multiple stroke thicknesses.
[edit - I fully agree, jacob.  The appearance panel is second only to the pen tool. ;-) ]

  • Adding a new stroke through the Appearance Panel?

Are there any reasons to add a new stoke in the Appearance Panel VS. just doing it in the Control Panel or in the Toolbox?

Here is a visual showing yu how three strokes are being applied to one Type Object.
BTW you could thank Scott for explaining this for you.

  • Appearance Panel gone? – Illustrator CC

After updating to Yosemite, my Appearance Panel in Illustrator is completely blank.
Any idea how I can reset it? I've tried changing workspace and reseting it that way, but nothing..
Help appreciated as I use Appearance frequently..
    Thanks!
    Tommy

I fully agree with him! This thread was started in Nov. 2014 and in May 2015 we're still having issues with exactly the same problem!
rbhunwal: on Nov. 5th you said that Adobe is working on it. Please give us a specific answer as to when we can expect a patch or update which repairs a previously working feature. We are monthly paying customers. I'm not demanding anything, i just wish for Adobe to repair those - essential - features that were working before.
Btw. your solution does work - until i close AI and at the next start, the same issue is back again. We are talking about Illustrator, for gods sake! This is highly unprofessional - am i supposed to constantly rename Folders that are 'hidden' for a reason just to have basic functionality?! Annoyed doesn't even start to describe how i feel about AI/Adobe with this regard.

  • CS4 appearance panel: move the color of a stroke

Let's see if I can explain this. I want to create a map.
I have a layer for the streets and several sublayers in it that contain paths of different stroke widths.
In Illustrator CS3 if I wanted to give all those paths with their different stroke widths a common outline I could simply target select the streets main layer and with the appearance panel apply a stroke to it. Then apply the Outline-stroke-effect, apply a pathfinder-add-effect and move the stroke's color below both effects.
    http://vektorgarten.de/img/tut/umrandung-cs3.png
How do I achieve this in CS4? It looks like I cannot move the stroke's color below the Outline-stroke-effect.
    http://vektorgarten.de/img/tut/umrandung-cs4.png
If I open my old CS3-file in CS4, it still seems to work the way it was intended, but how do I create this in CS4?
    Kind regards,
    Monika

You can do what you want to do in CS 4 but what you have to do is after you group the objects and give the group the stroke then flatten the transparency and then give it the Effect>Pathfinder>Add.

    <br />
<br />I know but that is not how you do it in CS3 but it is at least one way you do it in CS 4 and I agree there should be another command that combines these steps as an Effect Outline Group would be a good way to go. Would be a very handy tool.

  • Gradient fills in Appearance panel

I have multiple fills on an object. One of the fills is a gradient. If I want to change the gradient to another gradient, I click on the gradient fill in the Appearance panel. I have quite a few gradients in the Swatches panel but in the drop down list of color swatches that appears in the Appearance panel, only solid colors are shown.
Is there a way to see all of the swatches, including gradients and patterns, when using the Appearance panel to change a fill?

When you look in the swatches for the drop down in the appearance panel. Find the third icon from the left. Click on it and select show all swatches. Then the gradients will show.

  • Lightroom 1.3 Web Module - Appearance Panel Partially Hidden

When I go to the Web module, the right margin of the Appearance panel is partially hidden such that I can't access all of the controls....it's driving me nuts. Is this just me or is anyone else having this problem. I can't figure out how to shift the panel horizontally. Any help would be appreciated. Happy New Year!

Try restarting LR. Try cycling between Fullscreen modes with 'f'.
Try Shift-tab a couple times to hide and show the panels to see if this affects the panel. Are you attempting to use, using two monitors?
Obviously I grasping at straws here, but this ain't usual!

  • Appearance panel question

I have a shape with a Inner Glow applied to it.
    I do the following:
    - copy the shape
    - paste in front, command + F
    - select shape on top
    - fill shape on top with white
The Inner Glow is now gone in the Appearance panel.
    Is this right?

This is all very strange. I tried this last night around 5 times and it didn't work, and now it does.
I copied the shape, pasted it using command F, and selected the top shape and simply selected a white swatch to be its new fill color.

  • Appearance panel stack problem

this is probably common sense, but for the life of me i cant figure it out.
I have a simple text. In the appearance panel, the "eyes" are greyed out and i cant add effects, nor can i change the stack order.
However i create a simple rectangle and i am able to do it.
    what is the problem here?

If you plan on applying the same attributes to your entire selection of text, I recommend  selecting your charachters with the type tool and setting your fill & strokes to none.
Then as per Wade  change to a selection tool and begin applying your strokes and fills
At type level you can move fill to the top, add multiple strokes which now go outwards, etc. The type level overides the character, but I still like to clean character level out to none to keep my files clean and not have problems with removing unused colors and such.

  • Copy and Paste Drop Shadow in Appearance Panel

I apologize if this has been covered. (I don't know how to search just the Illustrator forum with the new layout).
Can I copy and paste / eyedropper / or make a style out of a set of appearance settings? I just want to apply the same drop shadow to different vector forms.
    Thanks,
    Bruce

    Hi Bruce,
You can create a Graphic Style.
Select and drag an object with the appearance you want to the Graphic Style Panel.
Then simply click objects and click the style in the Graphic Styles Panel.
