Wrong password, iPhone locked
Can't open daughter's iphone 4. Wrong password, can't open the phone in itunes because of wrong password?
Plug the phone in to the computer - Itunes will detect it is locked with a Passcode and wont read the device.
So once the first message pops up - click cancel - it wont be detected yet.
Hold the home and power button for atleast 30 seconds, once you see the connect to iTunes symbol on the phone - Itunes should say Itunes has detected a Phone in recovery mode and the phone must be restored before working with iTunes or something along those lines.
Once that message pops up you will want to click restore - then after the restore you can restore from one of your backups

Something went wrong with the update, this can and does happen with every version of iOS.
There is nothing wrong with the update.
Simply restore the device via iTunes on the computer.
If iTunes is stating it will take hours to update, that indicates an extremely slow Internet connection and is likely the reason the OTA update failed. -

Trying to update iphone 4s to ios 8. Install failed for "unknown reasons". Trying to restore I phone from I tunes, asked for password to complete restore. I enter ITunes password and then iphone lock password and neither is accepted. What password is required?
I think the password it asked is the one that you used to encrypt iPhone backup.

Open iTunes on computer, connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power buttons on iPhone until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Due to my brother locking me out of my ipod touch I had to wait an hour to log in again. Unfortunately when I did this, I, again put in the wrong password twice more, each time locking me out for a further 60 minutes. On my 3rd attempt to log in the wrong password was entered again. This time though instead of logging me out for another 60mins it now tells me to "connect to itunes" but I have no idea how to do this and I am now unable to use my ipod. I can no longer send or receive iMessages on my iphone 5. When I try to sign on to my iCloud account it says that my password is incorrect. i have changed my password four times and it still says i am entering the wrong password, which i know for a fact i am not.

My child has put in the wrong password on my phone multiple times, my iPhone now say "iPhone has been disabled connect to iTunes" When I hook my phone up to iTunes, iTunes then says that my iPhone can not be hooked up to iTunes because it has a password on it, but will not allow me to put in a password because the disabled message is still showing. What is the next step?
You may need to put the iPhone into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 - you should then be able to reset the phone and restore/resync your content to it.

If you don't know your password, don't know your security questions and don't have a rescue address or don't receive a reset email, you should contact AppleCare who will initially try to assist you with a reset email or if unsuccessful will pass you to the security team to reset your security questions for you.

How many times with wrong password will phone lock out
how many times with wrong password will phone lock out
Depends on whether you have it set to erase data after 10 attempts. Otherwise it will lock out for a certain amount of time and then you can try again before it locks out again. However, if you cannot remember the passcode, you will have to restore the phone on the computer you normally sync with http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212.
