Wrong Play Count

Hello. I have a really annoying problem with my Ipod Shuffle 2G. After listening to the music when I launch it to my Itunes it shows completely wrong playing count. There are no counts given to the songs I have listened to but there are some additional counts given to the songs I have never listened. They are on my Ipod too but I haven't listened to them. I don't know what to do because I have tried to reinstall Itunes (now I have 10.1.2 version) and I have restored default settings in my ipod but it didn't help. Do you guys have such problem? I would be grateful if someone could help me.

Same here.
Originally, count was correct.
Then, last item didn't count.
Then, (now), no counting at all.
Help!

  • Play count wrong after trying to home share

Hello.  I recently turned on home sharing to share music with my wife's computer in the home.  After turning on home sharing, I found my play count was all different.  The numbers were off.  I have since turned off home sharing.  Is there a way now to get my old music play count or library back?
If I can't revert back, is there a suggestion as to how I might manually fix the play count back to what it was?

I'm having a similar issue, which has only occurred very recently. When I plug my phone in to sync/back-up, some song plays will be randomly and significantly increased though, bizarrely, not all songs are doing this.
Having had a browse around the internet for a solution, it seems the issue is likely caused by the latest version of iOS (v8.0.2). Really irritating bug, I have to say, for those of us who like to keep accurate listening stats.
I hope iOS 8.0.3 will be out very soon and hopefully address this issue, as neither a system restore on my phone nor reinstalling iTunes has had any effect on this problem.

  • ITunes play counts are wrong. How can this be fixed?

I like managining my play counts, since I use a couple of smart playlists based on playcounts. However, I have this issue that I can't honestly seem to find a resolution to online. I see users with this problem, but no resolutions. Whenever I have to sync my iphone to itunes, it ends up jumbling up my play counts for some reason.
Example: If I have song A, that I've played 5 times previously. I play it 3 times, then sync my iphone, it'd end up with 13 plays (5 plays previous, then 5 plays again, plus the three extra plays.) I'll have song B, with 0 plays. I play it twice, sync again, and get 0 plays for the song.
Can this be fixed? I want song A to have 8 plays in iTunes/iphone, and song B to have 2 plays. This does not make any sense. I'm confused. I've heard it started with iTunes 8, but I can't downgrade since my iphone is on the latest firmware.

What should be happening is that each time you sync the device the number of plays made on the device since the last sync are added into iTunes as a global record. This system should be able to accurately support multiple devices. Because smart playlists can use play count as a parameter the devices must record both the current "total" and "device" play counts.
The first suggested fix for anything a bit random like this is to restore the device in the hope that it will just go away.

  • Play Count Wrong

Reset my play count on iTunes 11.4, after listening to a couple songs, played once each and syncing iPhone to iTunes, play count says those songs have been played nearly 10 times each. Why is iTunes multiplying my play counts and how can I fix this?
Laptop is Windows 7 as well if that has anything to do with anything.

  • Is there a way to restore an iPod's play count? It mysteriously disappeared

For some random reason, my iPod decided to erase the play count of all of the songs on my iPod...but it left other things, like Genre, Date Added, Last Played, Skip Count, etc. The Last Played column especially makes no sense because it'll say that I last played a particular song "12/4/2009 12:58PM" and have the play count as 0.
Is there any way to restore the play count? I'm particularly annoyed because I had a smart playlist that contained the top 30 most played songs on my iPod.
And I don't think my iTunes Library would be of any use; I've stopped using the iTunes Library to manage my music for quite some time now. I only use iTunes as a middle man for dragging and dropping my music onto my iPod (so obviously I don't use the syncing feature).

    Tyler:
First, start Task Manager. Kill iTunes.exe, iPodService.exe, and iTunesHelper.exe. Just select them and End Process on each one.
Next, use these instructions to put the iPod into forced disk mode: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Now, connect it to the computer. You should be able to recognize the iPod in this way.
If these instructions do not work, then something else is wrong, and whatever device locks up is where the problem is. Meaning that
-if the iPod won't go into Forced Disk Mode or comes out of Forced Disk mode, then the iPod has the problem and needs to be replaced (it's not fixable by you)
-if the computer locks up, then the computer probably needs to be formatted and have Windows reinstalled, since no Apple software is now running on the thing (you killed the only three pieces of Apple software that matter)
This is one of those things that is simply always true. There's no trickery involved, no way you can make it behave other than the way I've laid it out above. It's a simple matter of knowing how the stuff works.
So, I hope that helps you find the problem at least, if not to fix it. In forced disk mode, with no Apple software running, the iPod is just like any other external hard drive. Nothing special to it.

  • Will play count and playhead position sync back to iTunes?

I have a bunch of smart playlists that contain all the unplayed episodes of my favorite podcasts. If I drag these onto the Shuffle, will the play count and playhead position from my Shuffle sync back to iTunes?
It seems like the answer is no -- this is really a one-way copy to the Shuffle, and not a "sync".

The iPod shuffle is supposed to maintain a "played" flag for played tracks. I don't know if podcasts will work the same way as normal tracks, but I can't think of a good reason why they wouldn't. Having said that, after the iTunes 8.1 update, my shuffle's marking the wrong tracks as "played" and leaving the actually played tracks unmarked, so until the iTunes team comes up with a fix for all the bugs they introduced in that update, anything goes.

  • Problem resetting play count

    Hi all,
I've been trying to reset the play count of all my tracks in iTunes. I've been doing this by selecting all tracks (2,862 tracks) and then control clicking the mouse to reset the play count. It asks me whether I'm sure and then I just get the beachball until I have to Force Quit. I've tried doing this with twenty tracks and I have the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas what might be going wrong ?
    Thanks,
    Ben

    Command (Apple) key A.
Or select the first one then Shift click the last one.

  • Play counts and ratings aren't saving

So far I've been using iTunes for a year and I haven't had any problems until now. So here goes:
As far as I know this has started since I've updated to iTunes 8.2. My play counts and ratings aren't saving when I exit iTunes and start it up again. When I plug in my iPod Classic it syncs up to the old setup and doesn't update playcounts either. At first this happened when I added a new CD and started rating the songs and playing it. Then last night I bought 3 tracks off iTunes Store and all of a sudden it started saving my playcounts and ratings for that past CD. Now today when I started rating and adding playcounts to those new tracks I bought it won't save anything again. It's like it saves the file when I add something new but always reverts to that spot whenever I open iTunes again. I hope this makes sense, haha.

Ok, I found out that when I added another new CD it seems to stop saving all information once I try to rate the new files, or something like that. For example, I started changing the 'Sort Artist' category for the songs and afterwards started to rate them. This was before I clicked 'Get Album Artwork' as well so then when I closed out and opened iTunes again it had the 'Sort Artist' info right but in the wrong spot and the artwork wasn't there. One song was missing too. Is this a corrupted Library file then? It won't save any changes for any of the other songs either. It always reverts back to the old info. I'm really not sure what to do.

  • Play Counts from iPhone aren't transferring into iTunes?

I own an iPhone 3G and have the latest version of iTunes.
I am a person who is . . . proud of their play counts for certain songs and I am a bit upset that one certain song in my whole library (or, so it looks like it) does not seem to be getting the play counts transferred into iTunes. I know I'm not crazy and I honestly expected the song to jump 50-100 play counts up, but it stayed relatively low.
Just right now, I synced my phone and the play count for a new song (just added yesterday), which I absolutely adore, has a play count of over 50. (I have put it in repeat the whole day. :P)
So, I know something might be wrong; is this possible that certain songs don't transfer their play count onto iTunes after syncing? Is there a way to fix this?
Please feel free to ask questions and ask to clear up anything confusing I've said.
    Thank you!

    Hello,
I'm French (and in France so) and I have same problem since 1 or 2 weeks ! It's very difficult for me because I've a lot of smart playlist based on playcount...
Each day, I have to change playcount manually on iTunes (with scripts) for good working next day.
Like you, I've tried reinstalling and restoring without success. I think this problem appears for me since iOS 8.02 but not sure.
The only difference with you is my iPhone is 6 not 5... so the problem is not the phone but iOS or iTunes...
    I hope a correction soon : iOS 8.1 ?
Macbook Pro, iPhone 6, iOS 8.02, iTunes 11.4
PS : Because english is difficult, I posted on french forum but no answer since 3 days...

  • How do you get home share to update play counts

I can see the library on both my iPhone and iPad and play songs from it but it does not update the play count. I have checked the box in preferences and still nothing. Thanks in advance for any help.

I called apple and the didnt seem to know what was wrong, so i was thinking has anyone got this feature to work?

  • Play counts resetting to zero after reaching 100 plays

I've recently noticed my top played songs drop out of my 25 most played songs smart playlist. It seems to happen every time a song reaches 100 plays. Any ideas on a fix? Also is it possible to manually amend the play counts to get the 2 songs that this has happened to back to their correct play count?

That is an odd bug. I read one report that iTunes 11 has a playcount bug where if you have "crossfade" enabled it won't increment the play counts. I haven't personally verified that one.
As for manually incrementing the play counts. This Stack Exchange thread offers several possible methods: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/76576/how-do-i-correct-wrong-itunes-pla y-counts

  • Play Count Incorrect (How can I have played the song 11,198,165 times?)

For some reason some of the play counts for my songs are quite wrong. One 2:41 song says I've played it 11,198,165 times -- that would take approximately 55 years! How can I get rid of this information, and in getting rid of it what else would I be deleting?

go to the song in itunes and right click -> reset play count.

  • The play count in iTunes doesn't advance

After I play a song, the plays count doesn't advance.  Any ideas what's wrong?

  • IPod Touch messes up the play count

I was wondering if im the only one with this problem. Every time when i connect the ipod touch to my PC (currently still PC but getting a Mac on sunday), and than disconnecting it again, using it a while and connecting it again, the play count of some songs are completely wrong. For instance i listened to a song 4 times and suddenly the playcount shows like 253 or something. i dont sync the ipod touch with my pc library because i dont want to. is that the problem?
oh and another quick question (not topic related), is it possible to copy the information files which are used for my ipod touch to keep track of such things as play count, title, artist, album etc, onto the iTunes library? because some of my songs dont have the correct info and i sorted everything on my ipods library which i wanna transfer to the computer (not the music files itself. only info files). is that possible?
    cheers and thanks

i am having the exact same problem.
my ipod touch puts play counts up to over 1000 after listening a couple of times..
make sure music is just stopped, not just paused on a playlist, and you dont have it on repeat mode.
i have had to reset all of my play counts of every song (right click in itunes > reset play count)
i think i may take it back if this keeps happening.

  • Play Counts 2

It looks like the problem with playing games erasing your play counts has been fixed with the new version of iTunes? (7.5) I could be wrong, but I did a quick experiment playing a track once before playing a game, then playing a game, then playing it again afterwards and then syncing it, and it updated my play count by 2, which was correct. Can anybody else confirm this? I'm still a little hesitant to play games because all my smart playlists get their information from play counts. Let me know so I can play games with confidence...thanks

unfortunatly it has not been fixed. it seems that it works sometimes after playing games now, but I can't figure out a pattern in that. but most of the times it does not sync correctly after playing games, at least my iPod doesn't.
seems as if we have to wait for a new firmware
