Wrong playback speed of audio (computer is dj'ing with my mp3s)

i have a sound problem
audio plays a bit faster than should for about +- 2 sec and stops for like 0.2 sec and goes cycling like that
for example if you have audio file that is constant 2 KHZ wave youll hear it as 2.2 KHZ for 2 sec and silence for 0.2 sec and so on
it happens with all audio played thru all players (both arts based and others and in soundtrack of video too)
it began after i wiped out hard drive and installed clean install of arch with kde 3
did not happen in the previous system (archlinux that i did not Syu for the last 2 weeks or so)
hardware is dell optiplex gx 150 with intel ich2 (i815) chipset / audio

  • ITunes 7: Wrong playback speed

I'm getting a strange problem with iTunes 7. Whenever I try to play back any music, it's playing at about 120% speed. As in, the music is playing faster than it should (and thus sounds like crap).
Anyone else have this happen, or have any suggestions to fix it? Cross-fading off, "Gapless" scan worked fine, reducing playback to 8-bit didn't help.

One user reported restarting her computer help,
another reported they found a virus and when that was
    removed the sound quality improved.
Virus scan is clean. Reboot did not fix it.
What sound card are you using?
    nVidia nForce (with latest drivers)
    Some users have
reported turning up bit rate for playback setting,
    instead of down has helped.
I've now tried every bit rate, did not solve the problem.

  • Changing Audio Book Playback Speed?

I wasn't able to find where you can change the playback speed of Audio Books in iTunes.  Can someone point me to where this setting is?
It's pretty easy on iPhone/iPod/etc... it's just a little button under the scrubber that allows for 1/2x, 1x, or 2x.  But I can't see the option in iTunes.  I'd assume iTunes on a Mac is capable of as much or more than the functions on an iPod/iPhone, but...  I can't find the button.

In any case, if my Mac had problems, I'd send it in for service....!!!
About your problem, I don't think that it depends on hardware.
I'd check Live configuration and the SR of the audio files: you know, Live has so many features to modify speed and a lot of other parameters that bacomes easy to forget something.
Try recording something with Garage Band so you will be sure if there is a real problem.
    cheers

  • Audio Playback Speed Control

    Hi,
I am working on Flex based Audio Player. I want to change the
playback speed like 50% of the normal speed or 150% of the normal
speed. I did some research on flash.media package but couldn't find
anything useful. Anybody has any idea how we can control the
    playback speed of mp3 files?
    TIA
    -Ghulam

I know the law, but thanks for the legal advice. Wouldn't it be curious to ask this question if I already possessed software that allowed keyboard commands for transcription purposes?
Right now, I'm using MPlayer X. ( A lousy, often unstable program). What appears to be keyboard command functionality  -- under AVS at the top of the screen -- does not function that way and,  even if it did function, is not fully what I need. I'll look further into VLC, but a preliminary look into it shows me a program more adapted for video applications. My experience has been that such software is not designed to meet my particular needs. The Adobe program is to EDIT audio. It is not designed to have the keyboard functionality one uses for transcription. This is exactly the problem I  keep running up against with several programs. I can do sophisticated sound editing, but I cannot do simple transcription functions -- keyboard commands to speed up, slow down, move back, move forward.  It is an incorrect assumption that an audio editing program would have those controls, in my experience.

  • Change audio playback speed while transmitting via RTP

    Hi,
Basically I want to be able to change the speed/tempo of audio in real time (like you can on a turntable, for example) from a file stored locally. My program currently plays the audio on the local machine and transmits this same audio via a live RTP stream. I intend to include a slider on the GUI that changes the speed of the audio (like can be found on a turntable or DJing programs).
I am unsure if this would be possible, or how I would go about doing it. So far, I have found out the following:
The setRate() method of a Player should do what I want but it doesn't always work (the rate 1.0 is only required to be supported). I only require my program to work with WAV files, and setRate() only seems to support a rate of 1.0 with this file type.
One way of changing the speed is to change the sample rate (I don't care about pitch changes), but I don't think this can be done in real time with JMF. It is possible using a SourceDataLine or TargetDataLine with JavaSound; however, I believe I would firstly need to write code to feed data from a SourceDataLine to a TargetDataLine that an AudioInputStream can read from (as I don't think many systems, including mine, have a Mixer with both a SourceDataLine and TargetDataLine). If I did this, would I then need to do some processing to convert the sample rate of this AudioInputStream into the sample rate of the DataSources that are currently playing or transmitting data (I have a custom DataSource to go from AIS to DS, and so the read() method in this would possibly have to 'throw away' or duplicate samples to get the desired sample rate)? Would this solution be possible, or would there be a better solution?
    Thanks

I have previously tried getting a FrameRateControl for a Player and a Processor, and I have just tried again, but the getControl() method always returns null. I have tried this with several WAV files. Is there any other way to change the sample rate in real time with JMF?
For Java Sound, I already have code that lets me convert from DS to AIS and from AIS to DS. The problem is that I am unsure how to increase the sample rate in real time without using a SDL or TDL. But I think, if the AIS is reading from a file, the DataSource would have to read faster, or slower, from the AIS, and then do something with the samples to match the actual sample rate being used by the Processor in JMF. I am not sure whether this is anywhere near the right approach though, and I'm not sure how I could get the effect of changing the speed of audio without changing the sample rate of the Processor.

  • Playback speeded up

I have an iTouch. I imported a cd with meditations on it into my computer. They all play just fine. I created a playlist on my iTouch, and put them into it. When I play the playlist on my iTouch - 3 of the 4 are in fast mode...I deleted the playlist, and tried it again - same thing happened... Any suggestions on how to fix. The iTouch is up to date, as is the iTunes on my computer....

Go to the play screen with the three fast content.  On the right and slightly below the scrubber bar is there a ox with 1/2X, 1X or 2X?  Those are the playback speeds that appear with podcasts and audio books.  To change the playback speed, tap the box to cycle through the speeds.

  • Can you somehow speed up audio recognition of a newly imported file?

When I import a new big file, it can take several minutes even on my very powerful computer for Pr to "read" it sound-wise. I can jump around freely in the video, but without the sound, it often makes it hard to make cuts before it is finished. It would be nice if Pr knew where I was in the timeline of the video and "discovered" audio "nearby" instead of going from start to finish in a linear fashion.

    Can you somehow speed up
audio recognition of a newly imported file?
    Nope.

  • Possible to "Borrow" QT 1/2 Playback speed CODE ?

    Hello Forum readers -
With a QT movie that will be posted on the web - is it possible to:
Have a button that when clicked, plays the movie at 1/2 the speed ?
(borrows the 1/2 playback speed code from the "AV Controls")
Since it's incorporated in the QT AV controls - isn't it possible to somehow borrow it -
And because its on the web - the AV controls won't be accessible - right ?
Can anybody think of how to do this ?
    Any help or direction appreciated,
    Luke Wonderly
(What would a programmer charge for attaching this action to a button?)

    Hey KKirster -
I just (hour ago) bought your book! (now digitally Autograph it)
I'm still reading it - but hoped somebody already hacked their way though it.
I had already watched that movie - check your doc's - I tried & watched virtually all the QT (& more) content ON YOUR WEIRD SITE (actually pretty cool - really).
I notice you were NOT the silent/must agree - with 10 months! True compatriot.
I did as you suggested - but on this computer only have QT 6.5.2, and once I hit the "Escape" key - the movie closed, and I was simply at the page featuring the poster image - no AV controls.(A button is almost foolproof for a dummy to hit)
Tell me kkirster - you are herald as the QT guru - isn't there some way, in the QT architecture - or - programming code - that could just activate/engage 50% playback speed "action/call - be attached to a button?
Ahem, also to disengage - and normal playback speed.
Thanks for wracking your brain on this one - if you so dare . . .
    Luke
How much would a programmer (hint) charge for something like this?

  • Video playback pauses/loses audio

I bought a 60GB 5G iPod in December. Used it without issue for a month. Then it completely died (blank screen - nothing). I sent it back and got a refurb replacement. I copied over all my audio/video to the new one and now have an issue playing back video.
I'm using MPEG4/XVID, 320k, AAC audio, 320x240 videos I encoded with ffmpeg. Note that these files worked flawlessly with the first iPod I bought (before it died).
The same files copied to the replacement iPod play for about 15 seconds, then pause for about 5 seconds, then resume playing without audio. The only way to get the audio back is to scan in either direction then resume playing.
I called for repair. I sent in my iPod. I got it back several days later with it reformatted and a note saying they didn't find anything wrong so they just sent it back. I thought maybe the reformat fixed something but it's acting exactly the same way.
Has anyone else seen this? Is there anything I can do? Am I doomed to never play video with my video-enabled iPod?

Brad..mine did the same thing and I received help here with the following message from Dre...
This problem has been occuring especially with the 60gb iPod's. The best solution to this problem is to downgrade back to version 1.0 considering that you recently purchased this product your iPod probably came with update version 1.1 I have instructions on how to downgrade back to version 1.0
Here are more detailed instructions on how to go back to 1.0, espescially if you bought your iPod in the last couple of months and it came with 1.1.
First, please download the older version of the iPod Updater here...
    http://appldnld.m7z.net/content.info.apple.com/iPod/ww/win/061-2225.20051128.PDW nw/iPodSetup.exe
Now install that updater and restart your computer.
Now open the iPod updater (Start-->all programs-->iPod and find the iPod updater you just installed
Open the iPod Updater and connect your iPod. With that older version of the iPod updater you just installed, restore your iPod by clicking restore.
The iPod will restore and go back to software version 1.0. Now reload everything back into iTunes.
It does wipe everything off of your IPOD..but if you still have it in ITunes or on your harddrive...you're ok.
Also keep in mind that whenever you hook up your IPOD from now on, it will prompt you to update to 1.1 again...just click cancel to decline and keep on keeping on!!!
    Good luck!

  • Variable playback speed

    Hi all,
I am thinking of buying a N97. Is there any app that will make it play mp3's (like podcasts) faster than normal, like VLC does? Alternatively, is there any other phone from Nokia that will do i?
    Thanks.

well, it's not fully available, since they're still working on the hardware acceleration for video files on s60v5, but on their forum they're saying that the player is able to play audio files, so it might help the playback speed, since it has this option.

  • QT7 Playback Speed

The audio playback speed setting in QT7 is a manual slider. I have been unable to discover either a keyboard shortcut or a menu setting that would allow one to precisely set the playback speed/pitch of an audio file (e.g. decrease speed by 10%). I have also noted that pitch changes cause stuttering in mp3 fiiles. This is critical because I am using QT/ iTunes for dance teaching and like to slow down the music at first. I used to do this with a variable speed cassette deck but was hoping to do it with QT. Would QT7 Pro help here?
Thanks for any secret keyboard shortcuts or advice.

The additional audio controls appear when you are playing music and tap the now playing screen.
The additional audiobook and podcast controls when you are playing _an audiobook or podcast_ and tap the now playing screen.
In either case, tapping the screen while the additional controls are showing will hide them.

  • Controlling Playback Speed on iPod Mini

I am using iPod to listen to some language lessons (these are not audiobooks, but merely a copy from a language CD uploaded to iTunes+iPod). Unfortunately, the lessons feature dialogs that are way too fast and I would like to slow them down. Is there a way to slow down the playback speed of a song on iPod?

Do the songs play OK in iTunes on the computer?
    If so
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Changing video playback speeds

I'm trying to watch videos for class on Blackboard. Quicktime is not supported. I use Real Player. I would like to be able to use quicktime. I also would like to be able to speed up and slow down the lecture. I have heard of a program called Enounce, but it is only available for windows. Is there a similar program to use with Mac OS???

Are you able to alter playback speeds, to speed up and slow down while watching a video. What I mean is, if I'm relistening to a lecture, can I speed up the lecturer and slow him back to regular talk when it is an important portion to the lecture. I noted a product called Enounce (enounce.com). It is available for windows based computers only. Please look at this and tell me if there are settings or options in Quicktime or anyother video player that you can preform these same functions. I'm relatively new to Mac. I love the computer, but am still learning the differences from PC. Thanks again.

  • Playback speed in Sample Editor window many, many times faster than track (at correct speed) in arrange area. How do I sync Sample Editor playback speed to correct speed/tempo in arrange area? Track is spoken word.

Playback speed in Sample Editor window many, many times faster than track (at correct speed) in arrange area. How do I sync Sample Editor playback speed to correct speed/tempo in arrange area? Track is spoken word. Sample Editor playback sounds like Alvin on a meth binge. Spoken phrase is generated from Textspeech. Textspeech can export files as WAV files or MP3 files. Perhaps a clue?:   When exported Textspeech WAV file is dragged and dropped into track in arrange area of new project, it exhibits same supersonic speed. When Textspeech file is exported as MP3 file and dragged and dropped in arrange area track, it plays at correct speed.

    Thanks Erik,
If nothing else, this huge list of updates and fixes, shows clearly that the Logic Dev team is working hard on fixing and improving LPX to a major degree.... and from the list of fixes done.. show they do read the bug reports submitted!
    As an aside....
I recall how all the 'naysayers' prior to LPX (and in some cases, since...)  were proclaiming how Logic was dead, the team was being disbanded, we won't see any further development, the Dev team doesn't listen or care... and so on....... I wonder where those people are now?

  • How can I slow down the playback speed of selected parts of a captivate video?

    Hi everybody,
I'm pretty new to Captivate and although it offers some great tools, there is something that I just can't get to work:
I'm creating a video tutorial about how to use a website i'm working with so I've tried using "Automatic" ("Demo" mode chosen) recording option which is recommended for this type of video. However, the video recorded has a different playback speed than the amount of time I recorded. This means that some of the slides have a quicker playback speed than the way I recorded, thereby not leaving enough time to show the given feature.
The recording mode with the most "true" playback was "Full motion". However, I would still like to be able to slow down selected parts of the video, but can only find guides on how to slow down the entire presentation.
Can you please advise me on how to slow down only selected parts of the project? If this is not possible in Captivate, please advise me on which video editing software (where you can slow down the playback speed on selected parts of the video) is compatible with Captivate 5?
    Thanks!

Thank you. Andrew Kramer's Video Copilot video, which I somehow managed to miss, was very helpful.
I had a 79 second clip which I precomposed and enabled time remapping. But I have 12 places where I need to slow down the layer. After a while, I was runing out of room to add more keyframes using the method promoted in many videos and instruction sites (grab the last two keyframes, including the end frame, and drag).
In reality, you can add keyframes wherever you like and you can adjust them however works best within the existing timeline without messing with the duration, etc.
    Much appreciated.
