Wrong Product Key with computer

I recently bought a Compaq laptop from Best Buy and it requires a product key to allow use of Microsoft Office programs. I was not given the product key and do not know how to acquire it without payment for a new one. Help!

I'm going to presume that you just bought the computer and saw the trial on the desktop.
That's all it is, a trial, if you like the program, then you have to pay to keep it.
We have the Home and Student version on sale now(Last time I checked) for about $100.

  • Using Windows Server 2012 VL Product key with Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hi all,
Trying to use a Server 2012 vl product key to active a Server 2012 R2, but running into issues, namely it is not accepting the key. I have read many threads pointing out that different keys are required, but no mention of the process that one needs
to take in order to obtain/swap product keys? Any ideas appreciated? :)

The product key I have is for Windows Server 2012 Standard VL, (It's not a DC).
I have downloaded the evaluation iso for Windows Server 2012 R2 and want to licence it (with a VL), but it is failing with the Windows Server Standard 2012 VL product key.
My question is - am I doing something wrong, or do I need to ask Microsoft to change the product key / buy a new one? - What steps do I need to take?
The product key for WS2012 will not work for WS2012R2. (so, yeah, you're doing that wrong)
    WS2012R2 is not a "free" upgrade from WS2012 (it's different to Win8.0 -> Win8.1)
Your WS2012 pkey will work with WS2012. To use WS2012R2 you need a WS2012R2 pkey.
If you want to "convert" an evaluation license install, into a full licensed install, you must match the version (2012 vs. 2012R2) and the edition, and must use DISM as well as the correct pkey.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj574204.aspx
If you don't have the correct pkey for WS2012R2 already, and you don't have one waiting for you in the Volume Licensing Service Center website, you'll need to purchase a new license for WS2012R2.

  • Need my product key after computer crashed to re-install in new computer.

I bought CS5 Design Master Collection 4 years ago. My computer just crashed and lost my key number to re-install. I have called an Adobe Contact number just to hear a machine back and forth with many options that do not fit my problem. Is there any number I can call to speak with a real person?

  • New computer.. Product key for Microsoft Office?

I recently purchase a new notebook assuming Microsoft Office would be installed and ready to use. It is installed but asks for a product key to use. I did not receive a product key with any of the paper work for the computer. Is this program not included already, or do I need to buy the program?

There is no such thing as a trial anymore so that is incorrect. IT has Word started on it which allows you to use basic functions of word and excel. You don't get an actual code as it is just the basic use of it, not like a full version.

  • Can I recover an outlook email account if I know my product key associated with it?

I am trying to figure out which Outlook Email address I tied to a specific installation of MS Office 2013.
In order to download and activate MS office 2013, I had to associate my Product Key with an Outlook account. I created the outlook account, and installed/activated office.
Office worked fine for a while, but is starting to act up (Excel, more specifically). I wanted to uninstall office completely, then re-install it (same machine) - however I need the outlook account I created when I installed office. It's been a while and
I forget what account I used. I have my product key (and I know the alternate email associated with the account), I'll bet I even know the password for the lost email account - however I can't for the life of me remember the actual email address!
Is there  a way for me to recover this using my Alternate email address? Or Product key?

I'm afraid re-sharing is the only method to your question.

  • Windows 8 VAIO laptop - MS support insists on a product key but there isn't one

I have a VAIO SVE17125CDB that has behaved wonky since I first got it so I decided to do a system reset.  Before doing the reset I upgraded the computer's BIOS (often a good idea in a situation like this). The problem is that now I need to redo the Windows' activation.  Microsoft support claims that upgrading the BIOS is what caused this.  They say this is quite normal and all they need is the product key. They (two levels of MS support) insist that the product key MUST be on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop.  It is not.  Without the product key they refuse to activate my PC. Sony support says I don't need the product key with Windows 8. So now I have a useless laptop.  I think Sony and MS need to talk to each other.

    Centrant,
I am sorry for any mixed information or if this difers from what you've been previously told, but there is no sticker with a Windows product key on the bottom of the VAIO notebook and this is completely normal.
If someone at Microsoft told you differently, they are completely incorrect.  The Product key is embedded into the motherboard of the notebook and you should not have to enter the product key when you install Windows 8 (if everything is working properly).   Windows should have visibility and be capable of using this key automatically.
If Microsoft repeatedly refuses to assist you beacuse there is no sticker on the Notebook, please obtain the Microsoft Agent's name, Agent ID, and a reference number to your phone call with them and I will provide feedback to Microsoft.
Updating the BIOS does not affect your Windows 8 Product key.  However, changing hardware inside the notebook can.  Have you undergone any repair or any parts replacement on this notebook at all?  Please let me know as this is very important.
Without additional information it is hard to tell, but it is possible that something went wrong when you performed the system Reset.   I would suggest instead performing a Factory Recovery with Sony Recovery Discs to ensure that the software is installed properly to Sony specifications.  Is this something you would be willing to try?  Did you create recovery discs initially when you first got the computer?  If not you can purchase them from Sony Parts.
If you are installing your own copy of Windows 8 and not the copy with the Sony Recovery Discs, then you should still not need to enter the product key because it is embedded into the notebook.

  • Office 2013: can't retrieve the Product Key via Belarc Advisor

    Hi,
Isn't it possible anymore to retrieve the Office Product Key installed on a computer via third party inventory software such as Belarc Advisor? I used to do that to see the Microsoft Office Product Key installed on a computer for previous Office versions.
However, I tried with a computer where Office 2013 Home and Business is installed and Belarc Advisor didn't show its Product Key. Is it due to the new license management that consists of linking it to a Microsoft account and only entering the account credentials
during the installation process instead of the Product Key? Isn't the Product Key stored somewhere on the computer anymore?

    Hi,
Thanks for your answer although it's a typical half useless reply from an official Microsoft staff...
Actually, I understand that Microsoft doesn't support third party software to retrieve a product key but my question was rather technical and driven by curiosity rather by the need of retrieving the product key. Indeed, I took over a computer park in a company
and I'm performing an IT inventory. During this inventory, I retrieve Windows and Office Product Key. The licenses are genuine but since I'm not the one who purchased and installed these computer, I don't know them. Therefore, a simple solution is to use inventory
software such as Belarc Advisor. But I noticed that it can't retrieve Office 2013 Product Key anymore whereas it was able with previous versions of Office.
So to reformulate the question: isn't the Product Key stored somewhere locally on the computer anymore with Office 2013? Because if no, that would explain why third party software can't retrieve it anymore.
My question is rather technical about the new way of managing Product Key with Office 2013 and driven by curiosity. So I don't need any official technical assistance.
    Thanks

  • Do i need a product key for windows 7 to make a partition on my iMac?

I want to borrow a Windows 7 install CD off my friend to make a windows partition on my
iMac 2008. Do i need an unused product key with that CD or can the same key be used more than once? The CD in question has been used once before to install the system onto my firend's laptop, but its not an upgrade CD. Thanks in advance. Tom.

Wrong forum, depending on how you are installing (Boot Camp, Parallels, Fusion etc) you need to  post on one of those forums. I'm guessing you may be using Bootcamp, that link is
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp
Good luck. BTW you may want to consider buying  your own license of Windows.

  • Reinstall Office - where is product key?

When we purchased our HP Envy 17 in May 2012, it came with Microsoft Office.  We recently had to do a fix on our laptop that required us to uninstall Office and now we need to reinstall it.  We have all the Office files in our back up but we can't find a setup file.  How can we reinstall office?  Do we need to download again from Microsoft with a product key # and if yes, where would we get find the product key # for our laptop since Office was already installed on the laptop when we got it from HP?

You don't get MS Office for free it comes as a 30 day trial and after that you either buy it or uninstall it. And if you purchased MS Office with it you should've gotten the package that had Office Product Key with it. You need to go back and look at your receipt from 2012 when you bought your laptop and see what was all in the package and if MS Office was purchased as separate and installed onto it. MS Office comes as a install on a CD/DVD media or a link that you were given at the time you bought MS Office that you can download in some instances. So go back and find your receipt and see what it says and don't say. If there is no info that a MS Office was installed then you were only using the 30 day trial MS Office - the Activiated Office is only possible with a Product that comes with Office when you buy MS Office it doesn't come as part of the Windows O/S those are two separate programs.

  • Office home and student 2013 product key

I did a System Reset on 7/28/2015. After that I lost Office Home and Student 2013 which I purchased and was installed on my laptop when I got it. I contacted HP and I was emailed an Office product key via email. I have entered it several times and even had a friend enter it. It will not activate the software. It says it is an invalid product key for a different version. I could not call HP today because I was away. Could I have received the wrong product key. Control Panel/Programs says Office is installed. But it will not open. I have been on HP's website and Microsoft's looking for answers. I certainly need help. Let this serve as a cautionary tale to others. ALWAYS – as I've always done before this – purchase the FULL VERSION of OFFICE – with the CD. Even though it costs more. It is worth the extra cost – to not have the headache I'm having with losing Office. Answers greatly appreciated – thanks.

Hi ,   Thank you for your update. You should not have to do a recovery to regain your Home Office.  I suggest you contact Microsoft as they must have a record of your purchase and be able to help you.  Have all your purchase information available for them to check.  I provided contact link for Microsoft and a phone number. If you click on the contact Microsoft link, you should be able to contact them for assistance with this issue.Microsoft has a record someplace or you trial version would have expired.  To answer your other question yes there are posts  in the forum  with a link to the recovery documents, but I am happy to provide them for you.  HP PCs - Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8) You will notice an option to backup your personal files to prevent data loss.. • WINDOWS PRODUCT KEY - for reinstalling WINDOWS

What if your computer comes with NO Windows Product Key sticker -- computer came new with Windows 7 preinstalled but, included Windows  8 installation discs - never needed a key & should've (in hindsight) made a boot repair disc - but, recently computer would NOT boot up - tried to repair it but, no luck -- SO, now if I want to reinstall Windows 7 will have to use an OEM but, need a Product Key for HP computers --- any time else you install Windows you are REQUIRED to enter your own Product Key # which is about 25 digits including letters, numbers & dashes ---------- I do have Windows 10 on another drive but, love Windows 7 -- Windows 10 is far better than 8 BUT, not as good as 7 I have looked all over my case for any WINDOWS sticker & inside too -- I have heard that laptops are usually under the battery but, for DESKTOPS will be stuck somewhere on the case & this does NOT have one -------------- it is just STUPID for HP to ship computers without a PRODUCT KEY as every other manufacturer does for this reason..THANKS

Hi,  Goodmorning! Uhm as far as I know Operating System of these unit didnt came with product keys, because operating system of this unit is from the manufacturer, And it was never been installed using standalone discs by hp. You might need to order recovery discs online on its support website. as far as I know. Hope you dont mind.

    Hi
    I dont understand.
Toshiba Recovery disk is already activated and there is no option for entering the serial key.
If you use the Toshiba recovery disk you will not be asked to enter any keys!!!
The serial key at the bottom of the unit belongs to the Toshiba installed Windows OS and cannot be used with other Windows versions.

  • How to recover my product key some letters were scratched hp dv5t 1000

    Hi
My hp dv5t it runs window vista home perimiom 64 bit has crashed and I tried to recover my window but the product key has some scratched I could notread the last 3 letters. Please help me.

The only way you will be able to recover it with the delivered operating system is with a recovery disk set.
Since the operating system has crashed you can't recover the Windows Vista product  key with any utility I am aware of.
It sounds like it is time to purchase an operating system with activation key. It will not be easy to find  a copy of Windows Vista for sale.  Windows 7 is supported on your notebook. Drivers for Windows 7 are here. I recommmend that you use the 64-bit version.
I wish I had better news for you but I don't.
    Best regards,
