Wrong range of a clip

When sending from FCP to Shale 4- what arrives at shake is not the same clip I sendt.
Any sugestions?

I have not been able to get that function to work consistently as advertised. Some are able to, I think they are smarter than I.
I export elements from FCP as self-contained movie files and then filein these to Shake. It's a bit more time consuming but I like the element of having more control of what I'm bringing in, or so I tell myself.
Good luck.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 gives wrong time code from clip

Premiere CC 2014 is giving me inaccurate TC. When I bring in a  59.94 Non Drop frame clip the into Premiere,  the TC is wrong. The TC in QuickTime  start frame reads: 15:32:56:00. When I bring it into Premiere, the TC start reads: 15:31:04:08. I have pre set the project and sequence settings to the correct parameters. And, I have also tried bringing the clip in without setting parameters and letting the clip drive parameters once I bring it in to sequence timeline. Regardless, of how I set the parameters, the TC does not read correctly.
The TC reads correctly in FCP 7.
The TC reads incorrectly in AE and Prelude as well. However,  when I look at the metadata in Prelude, there is line for "alternate TC". This line sees the correct  TC as 15:32:56:00  However, in the prelude sequence The TC reads incorrectly.
    This is pretty time sensitive.
    Thanks,

In addition, when I interpret the footage to 30fps, the TC is correct. This is quite odd.

  • Why are my transitions displaying the wrong portion of the clip?

    Hello,
I am working on a short film, and am having trouble with several of my transitions. After editing the sequence in Premiere, I performed the color grading via direct link to SpeedGrade. The Lumetri effects from Speedgrade are applied to an adjustment layer on a separate track above the original video clips. If I have problems with the transitions (all cross dissolves) in my timeline. When any of them start, they all transition to a later point in the second clip. As soon as the transition ends, it cuts to the proper point in the second clip. I hope that makes sense. If I disable the adjustment layer, everything looks fine (other than the grades are not visible, obviously). Removing the transition from the adjustment layer track eliminates the problem, but then there is an obvious cut from the previous grade to the next.
I did not notice the problem when I edited the sequence in Premiere, it was in Speedgrade that I first noticed it, and it shows up back in Premiere now.
I have no idea what could be causing this problem. I have never worked with adjustment layers before, and don't know much about them. Is there something I don't know that I should?
    Cameron
Note: I am using the CC 14 versions of both programs.

I tried that: I shortened the end of the outgoing clip and lengthened the beginning of the incoming clip, so that a centered cross dissolve occupies the same space:
The problem still persists. For this particular transition, the transition shows a frozen frame from the incoming clip, instead of a portion of the video like mentioned above.
I have also tried deleting the render files for the transition; no luck. Could it be some sort of bug or glitch in the program?

  • Fcpx looping at wrong folder for optimized clips

When I'm optimizing an AVCHD in events browser it show H.264. Looking in in the rendering files the ApplePro Res422 is there.
I don't want to reimport the media in the Events.
Was functionning properly now don't !!!
    Look like a bug.
    Please help.

The original media is not ProRes. The browser, the inspector, everything shows the original media format.

  • Set range selection on a clip using "X" not working!

So I just downloaded FCPX this afternoon and am trying to select a range on a clip in the Event Browser to then drag that selection down to the Timeline.  On a 20 second clip, I press the "I" at 7 seconds in, then I press "O" at 14 seconds.  That's the part of the clip I want.  So then the FCPX Online User Guide tells me to do this:
In the Event Browser or the Timeline, move the skimmer (or the playhead) over a clip and press X.
Final Cut Pro sets the range selection start and end points at the clip start and end points.
Note:  To use this X key method with connected clips or clips in a connected storyline, move the pointer directly over the clip and press X.
BUT, when I press X, it discards my "I" and "O" points and puts the yellow selection box around the entire clip again!  It's very frustrating.  Please help me, what am I doing wrong, or is this a bug?  I'm up against a deadline and this is preventing me from moving forward because it won't "store" or remember, I don't know what to call it, my in and out points and the yellow bounded selection range on the clip!
    Thank you!
    Paul

Huh?  Tom, thank you, but I'm not supposed to use the manual?  I desperately need a User Guide.  Is there one? And you did not explain what X does then, or what I am supposed to do?  If the X does not do what that manual says, then how do I set the In and Out points on the clip?
    Confused,
    Paul

  • Corrupted clip import from DV: cut into multiple clips, wrong date

After importing DV tapes into iMovie '09, especially older ones, many takes are wrongly cut into multiple clips, some having the correct recording date & time, others having the current date & time. I have a single take, 32 minutes, cut into 685 tiny clips! All out of order... It's almost impossible to puzzle them in the correct order (and I lack the time).
Can iMovie be set to disregard timestamp info from the tape, and simply put clips in the order they are received from the tape? I could easily set the date & time by hand, and even make it understand it's one take, but not if it's a clip puzzle... Help!

Can imovie HD run on 10.6? I tried to install it and it said I needed iLife 08 installed first.
    Yes. It works fine.
    You have 6.0.4, you want 6.0 > 6.0.3 ONLY. 6.0.4 looks for iLife '08.
You can get iMovie 06 in a number of ways. You cannot download it FROM APPLE any longer (it was free for a time). You can also find iMovie 06 on the iLife 06 install disc. You can buy iLife 06 on Amazon or eBay. WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY!
iMovie 6.0.4 requires that iLife 08 is already installed. iMovie 6.0 thru iMovie 6.0.3 has no such requirement. There are no known functional differences between 6.0.3 and 6.0.4. If you install iMovie 06 from the iLife 06 disk it will probably be version 6.0 or 6.01. However you can update the software to 6.0.3 from Apple's Web site.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/imoviehd602combo .html
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/imoviehd603.html
If you want to have both iMovie 06 and iLife 09 (and most do) just install iMovie 06 first, then iLife 09. You are now UN-STOPPABLE!
Also when you install iLife 08 or 09, iMovie 06 is not removed from the computer. Previous editions of iMovie were always un-installed when "upgrading" in the past. Apple leaves iMovie 06 on your system, because they want you to have it. iMovie 06 works great with iDVD 09.

  • Clipping mask/white stripes

Ok i find it best to explain/ask in the form an example.
First i use a clipping mask to make a diamond/shape.(like below)
Then to add some depth i use the same basic shape filled with a gradient/shadow. I use the align tools to make them perfectly fit above each other.
But heres the problem, As you can see in the final one on the right it leaves little white stripes.Does anyone see what i am doing wrong to get this? or how i can approach it differently to not get this.

    simsallabim,
You may avoid the issue by doing everything in one step using an Opacity Mask.
If you create the clipping shape with a black/grey/white fill and no stroke, you may just:
In the Transparency palette flyout click Make New Mask with Clip ticked and Invert Mask ticked or unticked, depending on how you are using the colour range of the clipping shape to define the recolouring of the underlying object.

  • How do I view playback position while a clip is playing?

I just want to see where I am in the clip. For example, 5:03... 7:14... etc. I literally cannot figure out how to simply show where I am in the clip. This seems ridiculous. What am I doing wrong?  I have clips I need to edit based on time stamps... what am I supposed to do, sit here with a stop watch?  I am using iMovie 10.0.2.  OS is Mavericks 10.9.1 despite what stubborn and troublesome metadata at the bottom of this post says.
    I want iMovie 8 back.

Do you want to see the score to read from it while recording, am I right?
If so, to be able to do that, you have to disable Catch and Link functions.
Catch: Preferences -> Global -> Catch (uncheck everything, otherwise it will automatically switch on every time you move playhead or start recording or playback)
Link: click on the symbol showing a chain (upper-left corner of each window) if it's highlighted in yellow (this will result in different content being displayed in any open window, so you can have one part of arrangement in Arrange and another part in the Score editor).

  • Multiple selection ranges reversed when I append on storyline

When I append multiple selection ranges in a clip to the storyline, the order is reversed on the storyline.  I've found others with similar issues and no solution aside from deleting FCP preferences in the library and/or reinstalling, both of which i've done to no avail.  It is excruciating and doesn't seem to make much sense as to why a shortcut would have been created only to force me to rearrange the clips on the storyline and waste the time that's supposed to be saved. I've also tried it on another computer, and the same issue.  Supposedly the clips are arranged in the order of the selections but they are always placed in the reverse order in which I select them.  I am trying my best to become accusomted to FCPX after switching to Premiere CS6 by default upon FCPX's release but so far seems to be a waste of a purchase....
    Anthony

Thank you for your response and attempt to reproduce this issue, i've since pinpointed that I only have the issue when I attempt to append multiple selections I have made in list view in the event browser.  Whenever I append these multiple selections in list view, they will always be in the reverse order that my selections were made, but discovered these workarounds:
    1) after making the multiple selections in list view, switch views to filmstrip view and then append
    2) once the selections are made in list view, press F to rate them, and then select the subclips and append them to the storyline
That is the only way I can get them to appear in the order I intended.  I have found users to be polarized on this issue, having found only a few editors on other forums with this issue and finding most who seem like my issue is a freak occurance (even got the great Larry Jordan to respond on his forum and not being able to replicate the issue).  So i'm hoping an upgrade will fix the problem in the near future.  I've tried deleting preference files however did not uninstall and reinstall on one of my machines since I already tried doing so on another machine to no avail...
    Thanks anyways for the response!

  • Importing legacy clips - ends getting trimmed

We are working on a project that involves importing some older Quicktime movies into FCP 7 to update certain segments. The old movies were made with Adobe Premiere years ago (late 1990's) and apparently saved using a variable frame rate, they also contain an embedded audio track which we need to keep in sync.
The problem we're running into is that once these files are imported into FCP, a few seconds of the clip is cut off which is noticable mainly due to the missing audio at the end. It's as if FCP is getting it's math wrong and miscalculating the clip's duration.
We have tried converting the old clips in QT7 to a new file with a set frame rate to standardize it, and these files work. However, we have 100's of these to do, and are wondering if there's something we can do inside FCP to make these files work upon import?
Thanks to anyone who can shed some light.

  • Selecting part of MPEG-4 media clip to import

Whilst editing a multicam project I cannot select part of an MPEG-4 media clip in "Media Import", and wonder if there is a trick to it? Importing AVCHD is ok, but I have one camera which produced 29GB of media in one chunk. That is a lot to ingest for one clip so I hoped to select just part of that to import at any one time.
When I play the clip in the Media Import Window the "In and Out"  do not work, giving the error tone. It reads the MPEG-4 movie and plays it. Do I need to change the file format?

Thanks for the speedy help on this.
The problem was no doubt that the files which were given to me were neither on a camera, nor a true camera archive, for they had been converted to MP4 from something on a Sony Pro camera.
I have just upgraded my iMac and needed to upgrade my file-conversion prog. I have been using Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate, so I went back to it, upgraded to the Mavericks version, and it will let me edit the range of the clip before converting it. I chose to convert it to the FCPX output, and Bingo, I now have a 2 minute MOV clip ingested and on the timeline.
ProRes was available as an alternative, but I thought I would use the default FCPX setting this time. Seems fine.
Thanks for making me look at the problem a different way.

  • Audio Level Adjustment for Multicam Clip

    Greetings,
I have 2 issues while some audio tweaking for a Multicam edit.  I have assigned the audio for a single angle to apply to the entire sequence.   There are some clips in the sequence where, at times, I cannot adjust the level of the audio.  It will show the level when clicking with the selector, but it cannot be dragged up or down.   Stranger still, if I select it within a series of clips and use CTRL -/+ to change levels, it is unchanged even though all the others changed.  There is nothing differnent about the clips in question (they are not Compound Clips or anything.)
Restarting seems to often fix the above problem.  But it seems to be happening enough that it's a real inconvenience.  Also I am having similar issues with the audio level meter freezing up intermittently.  Sometimes when I toggle audio skimmer it can correct it for a while, but once it starts, a restart is inevitable.   Does anyone have any workarounds for making this work properly?
One last question that is not a glitch but a functionality I hope exists but cannot find.  Given that I have one angle of audio for the entire clip, I want very badly - and feel like it should be possible - to make adjustments to the audio as I would if it were one continuous clip; for instance, to be able to select a range across the clip transitions and adjust levels accordingly.  So far the best workaround is to select all the clips and use CTRL -/+ to adjust.  But this allows less control, because I must then go in and adjust sections of clips on the ends that I did not want changed.   Would love to  know if anyone knows a way!
Thanks for your time and assistance!
    Brian

I would think it would be easiest to open the muticlip in the Angle Editor where you would have a clear view of each individual angle and its audio.

  • Change partitioned column range in range partioning in 11g

    Hi All,
First of all , i am thankful to all of you for your help and suggestions in past. I have one new issue. I am using Oracle 11. There is one new functionality in 11g to do range paritioning while table creation and do daily partitioning.
    CREATE TABLE TEST(
    DUE_DAY DATE,
    ID VARCHAR2(10 BYTE),
    NAME VARCHAR2(25 BYTE)
    PARTITION BY RANGE (DUE_DAY)
    INTERVAL( NUMTODSINTERVAL(1,'DAY'))
    PARTITION FIRST VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE('2012-02-05 12:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS')));
Now I found i create the partition range wrong so each partition has data from previous day 12:00 afternoon to today 12:00 afternoon instead of daily data from 00:00 am to 11:59 pm because i mentioned wrong range in partition.
I supposed to do like this:
    CREATE TABLE TEST(
    DUE_DAY DATE,
    ID VARCHAR2(10 BYTE),
    NAME VARCHAR2(25 BYTE)
    PARTITION BY RANGE (DUE_DAY)
    INTERVAL( NUMTODSINTERVAL(1,'DAY'))
    PARTITION FIRST VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE('2012-02-05 00:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS')));
My question is: Is there any way i can change it now as table already has huge data in it, so i cant go with creation of another partitioned table with correct partition range? Please let me know your suggestions and comments to resolve this issue.
    Regards
    Dev

I don't think it is possible to achieve this without creating a new/an intermediate table.
If you can afford down-time, you should create new table, load data into it (in parallel with nologging), drop original table and rename new table.
If you want this switchover as online operation, you can use DBMS_REDEFINITION as follows:
    SQL> select * from v$version ;

  • Trash part of clip

    Hey!
I see it has been discussed before but most posts are a few years old - maye something has come up since. I took a lot of footage on my last trip. However in quite many occasions I only use some part or parts of a longer clip. How can I trash the unwanted and unused clips in Event Library?
    Thanks
    Kuldar

Just to add…if you want to work with a lighter footprint, there are a few other things you might consider (assuming you're shooting with a file-based camera).
Use a card reader for import and set ranges for your clips in the import window. Only the selected ranges will be imported.
Or copy the entire card to the computer. Then import, but don't copy the media to the event. You'll have aliases pointing to the media in the folder (or img) that the card was copied to. That won't affect your editing and you will not have taken up additional space on your drive.
