Wrong ratio of video

Hello,
Can someone please explain to me how to play podcast in the right ratio? The video window for my podcast is distorted (elongated/stretched up) and I thought I would be able to change it by clicking on 'video size' in the Menu/View but this is greyed out so I can't click on it.
Thanks

I have precisely the same problem. In the past (over the last year or less) I have used Perian to fix iTunes' incorrect display of video. The video has come from EyeTV export via Turbo.264 encoding but the latest update of iTunes (8.0.2) has "restored the problem". I have tried to reinstall Perian, but I'm not sure if I managed to fully remove it first. When "Remove Perian" is selected from the Perian Preference Pane, it doesn't fully remove it. The Perian Preference Pane remains......
Hopefully, a Perian update might solve this once more.....

  • Wrong aspect ratio of video playback

    Hi,
is it possible to get the video window display anamorphic SD video with a correct aspect ratio of 16:9? I always get 4:3, no matter what. In earlier versions there was a "Maintain aspect ratio" checkmark in the video window submenu that took care of such problems, but it's gone now. AACC trial, Win7, Intel processor graphics. Thanks.

  • Wrong aspect ratio of video imported to itunes

Imported video from eyetv to AppleTV has the incorrect aspect ratio in itunes but the correct aspect ratio in QT.
For example a file with dimensions 1024x576 is reported and plays 1489x576.
This problem was solved by installing Perian, but a recent update of itunes has restored the problem.

  • Still image pixel aspect ratio wrong in exported video (but correct in Premiere renders)

I've saved a targa still image from my footage and added it to the bin. It's properties show as follows:
    Image Size: 1440 x 1080
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.3333
This correctly matches my sequence settings as I'm working with 1080p widescreen footage.
The image appears as expected in the Program window both before and after rendering previews. However, once I export my sequence as a video file, the still image is squashed (displaying incorrectly):
A work around would be to stretch out the still to a width of 1920 in Premiere so that the export displays it back at its normal aspect ratio - which works - but I don't understand why I should have to do this.
The other solution I found was to go to the bin and 'Modify > Interpret Footage' and although "Use Pixel Aspect Ratio from File" already shows the correct settings, to actively reset it (to the same pixel aspect ratio)  with the 'Conform to' option:
    This works too.
    Surely a bug?
    (using Premiere Pro CC)

Thanks for the quick reply. But then why does the still's properties (in my bin) show the pixel aspect ratio as 1.3333 (not square pixels, 1.0) and should it not appear incorrectly in both the preview renders and the exported video ? This seems inconsitent to me.

  • Aspect ratio for video assets

do all video assets need to maintain an aspect ratio of 3:2? for example, i have a QT movie (to be used as a menu header) that i animated in after effects that is 300x40. when i import this into DSP, the inspector says that it is 720x480 and the result is a distorted video. I have manipulated my AE file to maintain a 3:2 ratio (360x240) and that looks fine in DSP. However, the inspector still says that the video asset is 720x480. and, when i place it in a menu, i am prohibited from placing it exactly where i would like for it to be (due to the size of the drop zone). any thoughts or ideas?
    thanks in advance

yes, 4:3. sorry, i'm used to AE referring to a 720x480 as 3:2. it considers a 720x540 (sq pixels) as 4:3. old habit i guess.
when i change the drop zone's size by dragging the handles, it works fine unless i try to alter the width of the drop zone. for some reason, when i do that, it scales down the video asset.
i've also noticed that if i set up a livetype file in a nonstandard 4:3 size (like 300x40), DSP does the same thing to it as it did to the QT that was rendered in AE. it distorts it by stretching it vertically, causing it to look horrible in a drop zone that is the same size as the livetype file. i'm just trying to find easy and efficient ways to animate button text and menu headers without having to compose the enitre menu in AE. but i believe that you are right, i may be better off just doing it that way.
    thanks for the advice,
    J

  • CS4 changing aspect ratio, resizing video

    Hello,
I've been working on a project at school for some time and am just now getting to the editing factor. My issue is about half way through editing it seems that its changed the aspect ratio from wide screen to a more standard ratio. I have it set to scale to the frame size. Just to clear a few things up they were all captured the same, all the original quicktime files are the same it's just once I import them into premiere that I start having issues. I really appreciate it, thanks

After uploading it to youtube the size gets so small you can hardly see it. My main goal with this thread is to get the video to actually scale to the frame.

  • Change aspect ratio of video

    Hello!
Is there a way to change the aspect ratio of the video streams delivered by the VideoPublisher from 1:1 to other aspect ratios (4:3, 16:9)?

    Hi,
You should check this topic. Hironmay recently answered it and I believe it could be helpful in answering your question.

  • Wrong timestamp on videos

Over the last few days, my wife's iMac C2D (currently with OS 10.4.10) started reading the time stamps on our camera's AVI videos wrong. When the import screen comes up, the time stamp on all the pictures are correct, but the time stamp for the videos are about 7 hours ahead (and they all show the same wrong time). Interestingly, Image Capture shows the same erroneous times (so it does not appear to be an iPhoto-specific issue). Creating a new iPhoto album and creating a new user account does not fix the problem (so it does not appear to be a preference issue).
However, my MacBook reads the time stamps correctly (so it does not appear to be a camera/SD card issue). Also, the Finder reads the time of the video file correctly as well.
Given the pattern above, I suspect that there is some resource that OS X uses to read video metadata, and it must be corrupted. I have no idea what that resource might be or how to fix it.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

Usually this is caused by a custom setting of the time date format - in your time preferences set your time display to the default standard display and see if that clears the problem - if it does you can play with getting back to the custom one and see

  • Aspect Ratios and Video Distortion

I am trying to take a video that was recorded at 1440x1080 and shrink it down to 192x144. When I currently do that, it extremely distorts the video. How do I avoid this?

    OK. Got it.
What I would do if I were you is create a sequence at that size, 192X64.
Bring your footage in and scale it down to fit in that little space. You might find that you pan around the larger frame instead of scaling it all the way down. For example, if you scaled it way down to about four times the size, you could show 1/4 of the frame, then another 1/4, then another, etc. Or, you could focus on the very best part of each frame. Kind of like zooming way in.
In this way, you will know exactly what it will look like upon export to 192X64.
This first image is actually a frame from a 1920X1080 video scaled down to fit the forum software requirements, The second image is what might look good on the matrix board.
Now, it doesn't look bad on my monitor, but how it will look on the scoreboard is something you will have to decide.
Keep in mind that with a ratio of 3 to 1, you really want to shoot your video very carefully to make the interesting parts a lot wider than they are tall. Shooting basketball players.... Well.... They better be laying on the court.

  • Wrong ratio on Ipad

I need some help, I'm making an app for Ipad and are going to add some video clips, before adding them to Indesign the video is 720X576 16:9, but when imported and viewed on the Ipad the video is square pixels ... How can I fix this?

Ok, top image are from my Ipad and bottom from my computer. The video has the right aspect ratio on the computer, wich is 720X576 16:9. I'm placing the video in Indesign, then previewing it in folio preview or exporting it to my Ipad, and get square pixels ratio ...

  • What Did I Do Wrong? - Incompatible Video

I have 10 pairs of students, each working on a new iBook making short documentaries. They all followed the same instructions, below. Some of them had trouble importing the video and some did not. I would like to know what they or I did wrong so I won’t repeat this problem. Here are the steps we used:
    1. Kids: made a New Project and imported jpegs using the Ken Burns Effect. We did not change the quality settings – accepted the defaults in iMovie.
    2. Kids: some of them recorded voiceovers to go with the photos.
    3. Kids: some of them added a music soundtrack.
    4. We recorded an event using a Sony DV camcorder.
    5. I imported the video into my computer with letterboxing and pillboxing turned off.
    6. I divided the video up into various subject related clips and exported the clips back to the camcorder. So now instead of having one master tape with all of the original footage I have 6 tapes, each with a small part of the whole event.
    7. Kids: attempted to import one of the 6 tapes into their existing iMovie project.
Ok, now for the problem…. The above worked fine for some of the students. For others when they attempted to import they got an error message saying the tape was incompatible with their project. I managed a work around but I would like to know why this went wrong on some of the projects and not on others. I would like to avoid this problem in the future.
Sorry this is so long. Thanks for your patience and help.
    Artlover

... they got an error message saying the tape was incompatible with their project.
so, my first suspicion would be: are all project same standards?
look into the project's window title bar.. should be something like 'DV-My Great Movie' ..
if it is 'Mpeg4 - My Great Movie' or 'iSight..' you're in trouble...
are all machines/iMovies set to same video standard? look in its prefs, should be 29.97fps for New Projects...

  • Wrong ratio

I am having a problem with aspect ratio coming out 4:3 when it should be 16:9. I shot my video on a hdr-fx1 which says it should come oout 16:9, and everything in fcp is 16:9 but when I render it out it is 4:3.
I must be missing a setting some were but I cant seem to find it. help...

    Yep,
I find this happening in Compressor.
I am totally new to HDV (but not to FC or to DVDStudio).
What I did find is that if you export from FC as a QT reference movie you can put that straight into DVDStudio... and it keeps its 16:9.
    But,
It sure takes up a lot of space!

  • What am I doing wrong when transfering videos from itunes to iPod?

This is the message I am getting:
SOME OF THE VIDEOS IN YOUR ITUNES LIBRARY, INCLUDING THE VIDEO..., WERE NOT COPIED TO THE IPOD BECAUSE CANNOT BE PLAYED ON THIS IPOD.
I don't think I am doing anything wrong because I have used the same process for other videos and they play perfect.
These are the steps I take to tranfer my videos:
    1. Convert videos using VIDEORA iPod Converter
    2. Play the viedo on iTunes to make sure it was converted right.
    3. Update my iPod.

"the converted video plays, but without sound. it is the same on itunes and on the pod"
You are trying to convert a MPEG file that is Muxed. Please read on how to tell what file you have:

  • Confused about pixel aspect ratio and video size

    Hello,
I have edited a whole dvd full of video and exported it as MPEG-2  NTSC DV Wide - it says 720 x 480, 29.97 fps. I have brought these into Encore and am trying to make a menu but can't seem to get the menu size right. Since I chose the wide format when making the video, which aspect ratio should I use in Encore? It gives me a choice in the properties menu, but when I go to Project settings it says Codec: MPEG-2 Dimensions 720 x 480. Whenever I bring in a menu background from photoshop, it doesn't fit, and is further complicated by the pixel aspect ratio thing. I have no idea what my background size should be to make it fit properly - the templates seem to all be the 4:3 size. What size should I be using in Photoshop and which pixel aspect ratio?
Is my video codec going to cause me a problem in Encore? I assumed that most tvs nowadays are widescreen (at least not square), so I should do the video wide as well.
Thanks for any help! I am thoroughly confused.

Use a template menu from Encore's library. Then modify as you need. That way you know that it will be the right pixel size and par. You cannot made an incorrectly sized/par'd menu work by setting it to 16:9 or 4:3 in the menu properties. It must be correct, and if so, Encore will usually pick the correct setting.
The Encore project settings for DVD really have no choices: it has to be  720x480 for NTSC. There is no project setting for par. You have to create the menu correctly - just let Encore do that for you by using a template.
Was your video source widescreen? If so, then you'll be fine on your video. If not, you may need to sort that out also.

  • Wrong ratios 16:9 to 4:3

I recorded some movies on a Sony DVD203 in 16:9 format. I played them back into iMove 08 and 06 by using the svideo through a Canopus ADV110 video to firewire converter. Everything came through okay except the display in imove08 is set to 16:9 and the picture is shown as 4:3 with pillars on the sides and the people are tall and skinny. On imove 06 I cant get a 16:9 option anywhere. If I plug the camera into an HDTV with 16:9 ratio through an s-video jack the playback is perfect. Anybody got any ideas?

Could you explain to someone who has spen over 4 hours wint iMove 06 and cant' get it to do anything at all. I can make iMove 08 work If I could get video into it.
While I also own a Canopus unit (ADVC300) to move video content (TV, Satellite, VHS, etc.) content to my computer, I would normally use the following work flow for the Sony DCR-DVD203:
    1) Connect the camcorder to your computer using the USB cable
    2) Move the VOB ("muxed" audio/video content) files to your computer hard drive
    3) Use a software application to convert the VOB files to iMovie compatible compression formats
    4) Import the converted files into iMovie
Your only real problem is deciding which application to use and which compression format to use. My personal choice would be MPEG Streamclip (free) here since it has a number of features which most users will eventually need/grow into over time. It does, however requiter the purchase/installation of the the QT MPEG-2 Playback component ($19.99). This approach will allow your to convert your VOBs to DV files which will be properly flagged as 16:9 content and can be imported/edited by any version of iMovie.
If you are more interested in ease of conversion and don't care so much about the output format as long as it is iMovie '08 compatible, then you could try iSquint (free). It is much easier to use. Simply drag and drop the copied VOB files to the work area and press the "Start" button to convert one or more files to MPEG-4/AAC files which can then be imported to iMovie '08. Once you have gained familiarity with the application you can switch to H.264/AAC compression format and/or increase the video data rate to improve quality somewhat. This program does not require purchase and installation of the QT MPEG-2 Playback component but has fewer features.
