Wrong Reader Version - Acrobat 10.1.1 is actually 10.1.0

I just downloaded the distribution version of Acrobat Reader 10.1.1 (AdbeRdr1011_en_US.exe) from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
In preparation for deploying it my organisation, I have extracted the EXE with 7zip and done a test install on my PC. After installation, Acrobat Reader's Help-About menu shows version 10.1.0. Huh? What went wrong here?
So, I downloaded Reader 10.1.1 again, unzipped it again, then unzipped the Data1.cab. I check the version of the AcroRd32.exe (from the Data1 folder) and is says version 10.1.0.534 (see screen capture attached). Ok, so now I find, download and apply AdbeRdrUpd1011.msp. Reader Help-About now says version 10.1.1 and the ArcoRd32.exe from the Program Files folder says it is version 10.1.1.33 (see screen capture attached).
To double check that I'm not going insane, I download AdbeRdr1011_en_US.exe again (and bypass our corporate proxy this time). I also remotely logon to my server at home and download it there too (just to make sure I'm ovoiding any sort of internet cache). I extract the EXE again, and (both at home and at work again) the AcroRd32.exe still says version 10.1.0.534.
What gives, Adobe? Why are the files contained in AdbeRdr1011_en_US.exe not the same version as those in AdbeRdrUpd1011.msp?
Further to this, I have noticed that the Data1.cab files from 10.1.0 and 10.1.1 (when extracted out of their respective version installer EXE) are exactly the same size; the exact same byte count. Also, when eact Data1.cab is extracted, the contents from each is eaxtly the same too! Does this mean someone accidentally published the wrong Data1.cab in their 10.1.1 installer? And if so, why is the 10.1.1 installer 12.5Mb bigger than 10.1.0 when they contain the exact same data!?
Ok, the bottom line here is... when will the distribution installer AdbeRdr1011_en_US.exe be updated to it deploys the correct version of Acrobat Reader? Once this is done, I can update it across my organisation.

Thanks for the feedback. As mentioned, I used 7zip to unzip the exe. I also used UniversalExtractor, but after is scans the file it too chooses 7zip to extract it.
That said, I used your command to unzip the file and I now see the same files, plus the extra MSP (the extra 12.5Mb difference between the 10.1.0 installer and the 10.1.1 installer).
However, since the MSP is not already incorporated into the MSI, this makes it difficult to deploy in its current state. Yes, I know I can extract the MSI to an administrative location, merge the MSP into it, then deploy that... but I would prefer not to. And what about all the administrators that do not know how to do this, and just expect to extract & deploy their Acrobat installer as they have always done in the past? What will they think when they encounter this problem, just as I have?
I would prefer if the Acrobat installer/MSI packaging people could combine the MSP into the MSI for the full deployment product. Yes, you'll still need a seperate MSP for those administrators that wish to deploy just the patch, but anyone else that needs/wants to deploy a single MSI (eg. via AD Group Policy) is going to get stuck with this release if it remains as a 2 file MSI+MSP package.

  • Adobe Reader Version XI (11.0.06) vs Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard Version 9.5.5

    Do I have to install Adobe Reader Version XI (11.0.06) when I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard Version 9.5.5 on my WIN7 Pro, just because Firefox 26.0 needs a newer plugin?

    No. 9.5.5 is the latest version but it is no longer supported with updates. It is possible to get Firefox to stop blocking.
    Version 11 does have significant security enhancements though, particularly on Windows.

  • Acrobat Reader Versions and saveAs, exportXFAdata Problems

    We use generate Forms with Reader Extension Save enabled.
    The forms are then opened within Acrobat Reader. In the onClose Event a Script called "saveXMLData" is called. This script is install in the javascript folder of the reader installation.
    The script :
    var saveXMLData = app.trustedFunction(function(doc)
         app.beginPriv();
         doc.saveAs({cPath:"/c/windows/temp/savedForm.pdf",
              bCopy: true,
              bPromptToOverwrite: false });
         doc.exportXFAData({
              cPath:"/c/windows/temp/savedForm.xml",
              bXDP:false
         app.endPriv();
         return;
    Using Acrobat Reader 7, eveything worked fine.
    Using Acrobat Reader 9 "saveAs" crashes the Application after the document is saved and the filled in Data is not saved.
    Without the saveAs function, at least the export File is generate but the data that where filled in are missing.
    Using Acrobat Reader X "saveAs" crashes the Application as well. Leavin out the saveAs function, the export File is generated as expected. Thus the filled in data values are saved.
    Using Acrobat X Pro everything works as with Acrobat Reader 7.
    Our Problem is that the customer uses Acrobat Reader 9. Are there expected incompatibilities with the different versions. Does anybody know any workarounds, settings?
    By the way disabling extended security does not help.
    Thanks
    Max

    It cannot be a problem of the installation, because at least Windows 7
    was a fresh install with nothing but Reader additionally installed.
    By the way, what do you mean by "risky", I followed straight the
    documentation from Adobe, where one is allowed to place function calls
    requiring a privileged context.
    Have you any better idea where to place the call to save? It must be
    called automatically, when the User closes the window, no additional
    interaction is possible.
    One other thing is the call to exportXFAData, have you any idea why
    there is a difference in behavior between reader version 7 / 10 and 9?
    I wrote that in version 9 the user entered data is missing.

  • Acrobat 8 form not working when enabled in Reader version 7

    We have a form that was created in version 8 of Acrobat. It was enabled and is not working the same in some of our regional offices as it does in ours. Specifically there is a field that is allowing entry of 7 characters for users in our home office (all using Acrobat 7 or 8) and only 6 characters for users in one of our regions who are using Acrobat Reader version 7. Any idea what setting they have to change or what we have to do to enable the form so it works properly?
    Thanks for the help!
    Ken K.

    The error message is "Please fill out the following form. You cannot save data typed into this form. Please print your completed form if you would like a copy for your records". I'm not really sure how to make an older version of pdf, but if we do this, won't the forms created in version 8 not work properly? Right now our IT folks are having the users start Business Tools to open the older forms and Reader 8 to open the new forms. The trouble with this is that the users aren't familiar with opening applications. They typically double click the file they want which is launching Acrobat 8.
    Please let me know what you think.
    Thanks again for the help!

    Unfortunately no, It says "Adobe not responding" as well when I try to open a pdf. It has done this a few times where I had to uninstall and reinstall. Also, Illustrator tells me to uninstall/reinstall as well.

  • Iwant to purchaseAcrobat Pro XI. Do I install upgrade if I have reader and Acrobat X trial version?

    I want to purchase Acrobat Pro XI. Do I install upgrade if I have reader and Acrobat X trial version. Sorry new to all this software stuff. Hope someone can help out there.

    You would only qualify for the upgrade if you had a purchased copy of a previous version that qualifies. For AA XI, that means you have to have AA 9 or later that you had purchased. So the answer to your question is NO, buy the full version.

  • Does OSX do "backward compatibility to Acrobat Reader version 6"?

    I need to prepare a PDF file from my Pages document, and it required to provide "backward compatibility to Acrobat Reader version 6." Apparently this is something Acrobat Distiller can do but I don't have that app. How can I get Pages to make such a PDF file, or how can I convert the one Pages makes to that format? (I looked at ColorSync Utility but didn't see anything relevant among its PDF filters.)
    Quick advice would be very much appreciated!

    You have to use cmd + P when creating PDF files from Pages with this new option.

  • Acrobat Reader Version 9

  • Adobe Acrobat Prof. 8 and Adobe Reader Version 11 under Windows 8.1 x64

    Good Afternoon,
    my company plan migration from Windows XP to Windows 8.1 x64. For this reason shall I find out, which Software run under Windows 8.1 x64. From Adobe Products we need to know, if  Adobe Acrobat Prof. 8 and Adobe Reader Version 11 run under Windows 8.1.
    If the Software named above run not under Windows 8.1 x64, could you write me please, which version we need und how much it is. Thank you very much.
    Best Regards

    If you have Acrobat, there is no need for Reader. Acrobat 8 is not certified for use on Win8.1, only Acrobat XI. You can get the current cost from the Adobe Store at Adobe.com. The cost is a per computer license. If you have a lot of computer, you might be able to negotiate with Adobe on a volume order or site license (for so many licenses) -- you would have to call Adobe on that.
    AA 8 can be made to work in some cases, but I would not recommend it in a business environment. It is not worth risking some hickup with software that is marginally compatible when you have some deadline or such.

  • Is there a cleaner that wipe all versions of Reader and Acrobat?

    I am running Windows XP SP3 and IE8.
    I made the mistake of trying to upgrade Reader from version 7 and now I keep getting a message that Reader will not work inside my browser. It looks lik it keeps trying to open Acrobat instead of Reader. I can't seem to fix this and I can't get rid of the Adobe Add-ons in IE. I need something that will comletely wipe all traces of Reader and Acrobat so I can start over again. Does anyone know of a cleaner that is available to do this?
    Thanks for any help.

    Which is why Adobe started building cleaner versions 3-4 years ago. Versions 9 and earlier are no longer supported so building tools for them has a lower priority than adding features to the existing cleaner for 10 and 11.
    For a list of all product versions, see the Release Notes. For what versions can coexist, see the admin guide (yes: Reader and Acrobat can be of different versions with limitations).
    Both docs reside at www.adobe.com/go/acrobatetk.

  • Program Workspace for Specific Acrobat Reader Version

    I am using LC ES 8.0.
    Is there a way to program Workspace to use a specific version of Reader? I want it to open Acrobat Reader version 8 or higher.
    We have a few problems with some other older software that several hundred users are using and it requires them to use Acrobat Standard v6. I want to push Reader 8 to everyone and can specify that Standard or Pro are default if available but I want to make Workspace specifically use Reader version 8 or higher.
    Does anyone know if this can be done programatically in Workspace?
    Thanks,
    John

    Once way to do it is if the process you are invoking uses the Render PDF Form, or a custom Render process that includes the renderPDFForm operation (from the Forms service), you can change a setting using the Acrobat Version property to Acrobat and Adobe Reader 8 or later.
    You can get more details about the renderPDFForm operation and the Acrobat Version property at http://livedocs.adobe.com/livecycle/8.2/wb_help/000614.html.
    Hope that helps!

  • Help: RenderAtClient vs different Acrobat Reader versions

    Hi,
    I'm used to LC 7.2, Designer 7.0 and Reader 7.x and they all work fine initially. After Reader 8.x on some client PCs were introduced, the following conflict is encountered:
    If I turn on RenderAtClient=true/auto and viewed by Reader 8.1, the layout of the resultant PDFForm becomes a mess; possibly this is due to the fact that my templates are developed using Designer/Professional 7.
    If I turn on RenderAtClient=false, the above mess layout can be resolved but some of the client-side javascripts do not work properly, e.g. cannot hide/show sub-forms and form objects interactively.
    I have hundreds of these forms built by Designer 7 and therefore it is not possible to redevelop within a reasonable time. Appreciated when somebody could offer help. Thanks so much.
