Wrong T530 TN Panel Model

Hello,
one of the reasons I chose this laptop was time tested FHD TN panel, model "AU Optronics B156HW01 v4". As my laptop arrived the LCD was "feeling" strange and not at all how everyone praised it as "the best TN panel". I looked at the EDID information, and sure enough, it's not the same panel, mine was "B156HTN01.1" instead.
For example, I can perceive black vertical lines every 5-10 pixels, but when I put LCD under microscope - everything looks perfect (besides reds being way too bright). This also has been confirmed by my co-workers - they could see the same distracting pattern. Adjusting color profile does not help, it just does not feel right...
I do feel discomfort using the screen and I never had any issues with any other LCD panel. I work with laptop pretty much the whole day, so eye comfort is a priority for me.
As a side note: I also increased my screen backlight frequency to 1 KHz, but it did not fix the problem. This happens with both, integrated and discrete graphics cards and on both, Linux and Windows operating systems.
Any suggestions what should I do? I *love* the laptop otherwise!

>Internet says it's a 'compatible' part.
Could you give the information source? I did lookup the datasheets of both panels, specs look identical, but again, the screen just does not feel right...
>You could replace the panel yourself with a B156HW01 v.4,
You are right, it should not be hard to replace a panel myself, but laptop being not even a week old, I would rather not do that due to warranty.
And if I do decide to change it, it would probably be IPS instead of TN.
>Out of curiosity, how did you increase backlight frequency?
I used instructions here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Backlight#Backlight_PWM_modulation_frequency_.28Intel_i915_only...

  • What's the latest Jan. 2010 spec LCD panel model #? (e.g. 9CBD, 9CA0, etc.)

    Just wondering if anyone who has a 2010 assembled 13" MBP or recently warrantied MBP can confirm the latest Apple display spec model # (e.g. My MBP was built in Sept.09 and has a 9CBD panel) that is being used?
    Got the dreaded light leak developing on the side and hinge edges of my MBP -- but considering that my colours/calibration are pretty much bang on for my eyes as well as the fact that I've painstakingly applied an Anti-Glare film 100% free of lint bubbles LOL -- my conundrum if the latest spec'd panels are really any better or if it's still a lottery on whether you get a good panel if replaced under warranty. The last thing I want is to go backwards in quality!
    Also if you've gone through the warranty process I'm curious on whether you have any say on whether it is another 9CBD that goes in or if you can specify to them that you're only satisfied if a Jan. 2010 9CA0 (or whatever # it is) is put in?
    I am planning to wait to see if Apple quietly updates the LCD panels in the MBP line at the Jan. 27 iTablet/iPhone OS4.0 event before taking it in anyways, but hopefully someone can shed some light into how Apple have been going about dealing with the light leak issues. Thanks again.

    Thanks for your kind cmments matrixxzero. I agree rockykoston I will replace my keyboard eventually myself too, with all the stories here I'm terrified to hand my laptop into service, apart from not having the spare time, Idon't want it to come back scatched, damaged and/or unfixed. That doesn't augur well for Lenovo guarantees. I am fully cpable of servicing it myself but many customers aren't and shouldn't have to.
    As I say the other issue is model lines. Our Chinese friends have proven they can maintain quality and innovate now but their shere manufacturing muscle means it's all too easy to have too many models and too many variants with too much crossover.
    Why drop a great design like the Z710, only let down by a middling to poor Nvidia chip and introduce new 17.3" models with absolutely no maintenance covers and sealed batteries!! They should have upped the Nvidia chip (the same as the Y50) and a better WLAN card. Same with the 15.6" models - evolve the Z510 to have a case like the Z50 but the same or better components again. Similarly the Y50 should have been an evolution of the Y510 not a step down.
    Lenovo has definitely gone cheap in the upper end of the consumer range, when they needn't as there are tons of cheap laptops from the brand.
    Most of the reviews I came across for the Z510 described it as having very good build quality and since I changed laptops three times from the same store within my purchase period I had chance to compare closely, with at least Toshiba and Acer. I would not agree with these reviews it's OK but not great. The metal upper case fooled me a bit but it's less sturdy than a cheap i3 HP laptop it replaced. Again for around a $1000 it should be better.

  • My pavilion dv6 3031sa has the wrong GPU for its model

    So I bought a new system board for my laptop online without knowing which model it came from, so I checked the Bios for the product number which is XB531EA#ABU. Then I checked HP drivers website and entered the product number which said the model number is Dv6-3031sa. When I researched the specifications for that model, it says the GPU in this board should be Radeon HD 5470m. However driver updates detected Radeon 5650m, hardware Ids in device manager confirms it is a 5650m
    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68C1&SUBSYS_1440103C&REV_00
    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68C1&SUBSYS_1440103C
    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68C1&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68C1&CC_0300
     It is a better GPU so I'm not complaining, just windering why the model and GPU's down match. Thanks

  • Mixing RAM Speeds In iMac G4 1GHz 17" Flat-Panel?

    I'm just checking here.
    I have an iMac G4 1GHz 17" Flat-Panel, Model M8935LL/A (USB 1.1 version) that currently has the standard 256MB PC2100 (266 MHz) RAM module installed in the factory slot, and a 512MB PC2700 (333 MHz) RAM module installed in the bottom (user-accessible) slot. I bought the machine direct from Apple, so despite the "official" spec (which calls for PC2100 RAM in both slots), it's obvious that Apple knows PC2700 RAM will work in that machine. My understanding is that the faster PC2700 RAM simply downclocks to accommodate the lower 266 MHz bus speed of the M8935LL/A. As I understand the DDR SDRAM spec, any DDR SDRAM (PC1600 through PC3200) module will simply overclock or underclock to accommodate the host bus speed...but feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken on that point.
    I'm fixing to upgrade the hard drive to a larger capacity model. I've done it before, so I know it's no picnic. Since I have to go past the factory RAM slot anyway to change the hard drive, I figure I might as well upgrade the internal RAM to the full 1GB limit. (Yes...I know Apple says you can't exceed 512MB in either slot, so please—no remonstrances about sticking to Apple's spec. The spec is wrong.)
    Obviously, it's possible to mix the two RAM speeds between the two slots, since Apple shipped the computer that way. Here are my questions:
    • Is there any downside to going the other way when I upgrade the RAM—that is, putting a 1GB PC2700 (184-pin) module in the factory slot, and a 1GB PC2100 (200-pin) module in the user slot? The reason I ask is because my preferred supplier (OWC) can't supply me with both modules in the same speed.
    • Is there any performance advantage in both modules being the same speed—that is, both PC2100 or both PC2700? If not, I'll just buy the one of each speed that OWC has available.
    Thanks!

    jjw wrote:
    So, you know have 2Gb available in your flat screen imac?
    Yes indeed—2GB confirmed as available by Apple System Profiler. Both modules are PC2700. Everything is working fine.
    I guess I can understand why Apple discourages users from replacing the 184-pin "factory slot" module. There's not a whole lot of slack in the motherboard connector cables, so it's best to disconnect them in order to get the bottom section to lie flat on the workbench. I suppose some folks might be hesitant about disconnecting things, but it's really quite simple, and involves only three connectors. After having changed the hard drive a few years ago, replacing the RAM was a piece of cake by comparison.
    A word of caution to anyone who's going to attempt it, though. There are TWO heat sink interfaces between the bottom section (where the motherboard is mounted) and the top dome. Those heat sink surfaces are coated with thermal paste at the factory, but the compound dries out over time, becoming a rubbery membrane between the heat sink surfaces. Once you separate the top and bottom sections, the membrane rips apart, and the firm connection between the heat sink surfaces is permanently gone. It's a bad idea to simply put them back together after you change the RAM module; you won't get a good thermal connection.
    The solution is to scrape all of the old rubbery compound off all four surfaces (two on the bottom and two on the top section). I did it with a piece of PVC, but you can use anything with a sharp edge that won't scratch the metal surface—even your fingernails will work, unless the old compound has dried out to the point where it's hard. After you scrape the old gunk off, apply new thermal paste to all four surfaces.
    The other maintenance item you can perform while you're in there is cleaning out all the dust, which accumulates in vast quantities and interferes with cooling. I vacuumed it out with a plastic crevice tool, being careful NOT to touch any of the components with the tool. Vacuuming can build up a static charge on the tool, especially in dry environments, and high static voltages aren't friendly to microprocessors. I used a securely grounded anti-static wrist strap throughout the entire operation, and even wrapped it around the vacuum tool.
    Good luck!

  • Hard Disk Upgrade - iMac 17" Flat Panel G4 1.0 GHz with USB 1.2

    I’m considering upgrading the internal hard disk with the following:
    [Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKB 500GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive - OEM|http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136111]
    I read that others have successfully installed 500GB IDE disks. I have a two related questions:
    1. Do these larger disks cause any heat or power supply issues?
    2. I've seen several take-apart instructions. It seems like there are subtle differences with the various Flat Panel models. Does anyone know which instructions apply specifically to my model (iMac 17" Flat Panel G4 1.0 GHz with USB 1.2)?
    Any insight and/or experience on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

    I have exactly the same question.
    Thing is, having did a bit of research I read that USB 1.1 machines can't support anything more than 120GB?
    http://www.macupgrades.co.uk/store/machine.php?name=imac-g4#int-hdd
    "Compatible with the 1.25GHz model, and 1GHz iMacs with USB 2.0. It is not compatible with 1GHz iMacs without USB 2.0, or any slower models. Professional installation recommended."
    http://www.macupgrades.co.uk/store/productinfo.php?productsid=71
    "Be aware that many G4 PowerMacs have a 120GB capacity limit on the drives they can use, if you want to use a larger drive on these Macs we recommend adding a SATA controller card such as the Sonnet Tempo SATA PCI Card, and then using a SATA hard drive rather than an IDE one."
    It wouldn't have to be this IBM model, in fact I like the sound of the Western Digital machines mentioned here, but I just wondered if anyone knew if the mac CAN support more than 120BG. I notice this company also state that it can't take more than 1GB RAM, but that's been proved wrong in other threads.
    Thanks!

  • PPC Mac Mini (1.25GHz), KDS K-20MDWB flat panel, and DVI-D

    I'm upgrading from an old CRT-based iMac G3/450 to a PowerPC Mac mini (1.25GHz) with a KDS widescreen LCD panel (Model #K-20MDWB) with DVI and analog inputs. The connecting cable is a DVI-D type at both ends, with no analog connections in it.
    I would like to use the DVI output (without a VGA adapter) to run the KDS monitor. That's where the problem comes in. Although the analog VGA adapter works fine, I can't get anything beyond very distorted and incredibly jittery video (followed by the monitor giving up and reporting "no signal") from the DVI-D connection.
    I know I've used DVI on this computer before, as it once had an Apple 30" Cinema Display attached to it. I also know that the DVI-D cable and the KDS monitor are working--substituting an Intel Core Duo based Mac mini resulted in perfect DVI-D video.
    I have tried starting the machine up with the analog adapter attached, setting everything back to 640x480 at 60Hz refresh (settings that should work with any monitor) and zapping the PRAM to clear any incorrect information about the attached monitor. Nothing has worked, and I suspect that the video output on the computer is somehow broken or incompatible with the KDS monitor.
    My question--is anyone successfully using a DVI-D connected monitor with their PowerPC Mac mini?

    The original PPC minis certainly work with DVI-D cables and DVI displays (I have used 4 different cable/display combinations with my 1.25 mini so I know it works), but there have been a number of reports of specific displays that were simply not compatible and which produced a range of results from no video at all, to distorted video, or 'sparklies' or noise ribbons.
    At one point there was a thread here (very long by the end) in which users were reporting which DVI displays worked and which did not, and other threads which discussed various potential causes or solutions. A search for 'DVI' might help (I'll try and dig up a link to the website where the DVI results were posted).
    In short, it's not likely to be a fault with your mini, the cable or the display, just a lack of full compatibility, which might be resolvable using a display configuration utility such as SwitchResX or DisplayConfig X, or which might not be satisfactorily solvable.
    ON EDIT: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=150291&tstart=550 is the link where DVI experiences were compiled, with the first post containing a link to the table of results indicating quite a number of incompatibilities.

  • Upgrading the HD in a 700MHz iMac G4 Flat Panel

    I want to upgrade my iMac to a bigger HD. I was told these older iMacs
    can only read up to 160GB hard drive and it needs to be an IDE drive? Is this true?
    What's the largest capacity I can go on an older iMac such as mine? Thanks.

    Hey S'berry,
    Unfortunately your 700 will only take up to a 128GB drive but according to:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/imac-g4-flat-panel-faq/imac-g4-how-to -upgrade-hard-drive-use-big-drives.html
    "Officially, Apple says that Macs running MacOS X 10.2 or higher released after June 2002 can use "big drives" -- those larger than 128 GB -- which would exclude the original iMac G4/700 (Flat Panel) and G4/800 (Flat Panel) models. However, third-parties have discovered that all iMac G4 models will support big drives running MacOS X 10.2 or later. For earlier versions of the MacOS -- including MacOS 9 -- a third-party driver, such as those from Intech or GenThree are required to use hard drives larger than 128 GB."
    You could talk to OWC about this:
    http://www.macsales.com/
    I remember not bothering w/ this and using a 128 GB boot drive and then using larger FireWire externals which were not subject to the restrictions.
    This might have changed w/ improvements in that software solution so talk to OWC.
    Also in answer to you question about wireless look at my last post here:

  • PixelBender + Flash in Photoshop panel

    Dear all,
    I've posted something similar in Configurator forum with no
    luck, so here I am with my question: any hint or comment will be
    greatly appreciated.
    Is it possible for a SWF that contains a PixelBender shader to
    be embedded in a Photoshop CS4 panel?
    I'd like to exploit some built-in function of Flash (like
    blur and other filters) without the need to write custom code, and
    build a complex PixelBender shader concatenating several pbj files:
    the Photoshop panel should contain only the sliders of course, and
    the effect have to be applied to the opened image. The Photoshop
    panel developer's guide explains that, for the project to be
    working and besides the swf, it's needed a javascript that
    communicate with Photoshop through its DOM, and it seems that there
    happens all the Photoshop commands. Currently I'm stuck and it
    seems to me there's no way to make it works.
    Why all this pain? Because it would mean to be able to have
    complex shaders in form of sort-of-binary plugin-like easy to use
    Photoshop panel; it would open a world of wonders.
    Thanks in advance for any comment or thoughts
    Davide Barranca
    Bologna, Italy

    Hi Davide,
    I have to apologize. I misread your first email and
    misunderstood what you were trying to achieve. I thought you were
    simply asking whether you could use Pixel Bender filters in the
    Panels at all (the answer to which I didn't know until I tried it
    yesterday). I see now that you are trying to write your own
    Photoshop filter with the Panel APIs.
    I'm not sure what you want to achieve is possible with the
    current Photoshop panel model, and even if it is possible, I don't
    think it will be very fast. The Photoshop Panel functionality is to
    provide an easy way to add a new workflow UI to Photoshop, but I
    don't think it was intended to add new image processing features to
    Photoshop. In general, if you are adding any new image processing
    to Photoshop, you have to go through the Photoshop Plug-in SDK. I
    did look at the documentation for the Panel API. I'm no expert on
    Photoshop scripting, but it looks like the exported properties of
    the DOM are purely descriptive with little chance to access the
    actual data. The only bit of promise is to use the ColorSampler
    tool to pull the image data from the foreground window, but that
    would be extremely painful and very slow. Even if that did work, I
    didn't see any way to actually update the pixels in the document.
    That being said, I believe there might be an indirect way to
    achieve what you are trying to do. The basic workflow would be:
    1. Use Panel API + Javascript to have Photoshop write out the
    image to a known location
    2. Load the image from the saved location in the SWF
    3. Process the image in the SWF
    4. Save the resultant image back out to the file
    5. Use the Panel API + Javascript to have Photoshop load the
    file
    I'm not 100% sure that this will work, and it definitely does
    have some side effects like leaving an image on disk and opening up
    another document in Photoshop for the results. But, I believe it
    will do the job. I'll see if I can whip up a tutorial on this if it
    works, but since it is not an easy example, it might take some
    time.
    As I said, I'm definitely no expert on Photoshop scripting,
    so I would strongly recommend contacting the
    Photoshop
    scripting forums to see if there is a way acquire the image
    data directly from the DOM. Judging from what the Panel API is
    trying to achieve, it's not likely that this is possible or will be
    well supported. Trying to track down the pbk versions of the
    filters to put into the Pixel Bender Photoshop Plug-in is always an
    option.
    Again, I apologize for the misunderstanding. My eyes simply
    stuck to the question in bold. Good luck with your search.
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Help: JPanel/JFrame display complexities, wrong size

    I am trying to make a simple game of worms.I wan't to draw a rectangle in the center of the window where in the middle the game is played and on the outside score, lives and other such things are displayed. }Somewhere in there is my problem.
    What happens is that the right and bottom walls of the Rectangle are cut off of the screen because the window is not the right size. I changed the code to determine if the coordinates of the walls were accurate every iteration and they were. I also made it check the width and height every iteration by printing out this.getWidth() and this.getHeight() and found that instead of a 600 x 400 window, I have a 584 x 364. I also tried changing the panel and frame's size methods to make a new dimension instead of setting it directly from my constants and it had no effect. I also added directly to those constants to make it precisely 600 x 400 but the rectangle is still cut off, so maybe I also have a graphics issue. The only other potential issue I can think of is that I have Vista but I looked around here and searched google and found no similar issues to this.
    I am not new to java but I am also not advanced. I just started using java again after about 6 months and I have made a pong game before without this problem, on another computer though.I am at my wits end. I'll check for responses tomorrow and thank you for any help or insight you can offer.

    the problem is here
    walls = new Rectangle(50, 50, WIDTH - 50, HEIGHT - 50);
    at best the right/bottom walls will equal the frame's dimensions. try it as
    walls = new Rectangle(50, 50, WIDTH - 100, HEIGHT - 100);
    but this won't get you exactly what you want, due to the titlebar height (30?)

  • Older flat panel on briefly recognized

    I received an older Sylvania flat panel display and hooked it into my iMac. The iMac very briefly sees it and send output to it and then the Sylvania goes blank. I am currently running an older NEC flat panel without any problems (the iMac sees it and configures for it appropriately). Can an monitor be TOO old for the iMac? I have tried various resolution adjustments on the iMac and each time it sees the Sylvania and displays to it for a brief moment and then it goes blank. I have not yet tried the Sylvania on a separate machine to test its functionality.

    Hello,
    There is a MiniDVI output port on the Intel iMac. Simply purchase one of the following adaptors and configure the display in Apple menu > System Preferences... > Displays. (The options appear when you connect the display):
    Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter
    Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter
    Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter.
    All available for $19 (USD) online.
    To use an Apple Cinema display the mini DVI to DVI is require and will also certainly provide the best picture quality of those three. If the display has the Apple Display Connector (ADC) and not the DVI connection you'll need a further conversion cable.

    BTW this forum is for the much older iMac (Flat Panel) models
    G4 (aka Flat Panel): Intel:
    Click image to go to correct forum.
    You'll get better advice in the relevant forum as for example the iMac (Flat Panel) only supported VGA displays in mirror mode only.

    I'm not sure how all of this works but I read a few of yur comments and figured you'd be the person to ask! I have an iPod touch as well as my iPhone 4. I'm trying to find an otter box for the touch because I truly love it on my ip4, not to mention ive given the touch to my 6 year old and NEED the protection. Anyway, I'm not positive which generation it is and don't want to order the wrong one. The model # is A 1367.
    Any help?? Please!!!!

  • Problem when engineering to relational model

    I have modeled everything in Logical model and then engineered it to the relational model. Now I have to make some changes, and I'm doing them in Logical model. When I'm engineering it to Relational, although I just altered one single item, I see that it's also bringing some other entities as altered. Inpecting these I see that all of them relate to identifying foreign keys with more than one column. For examplo, I have an entity with 2 columns as primary key, and a second entity with an identifying foreign key to the first, and a third column, based on a sequence, which, all three of them, are the second tables primary key. Everything is OK, I haven't changed anything on any of these entities, but when I'm engineering to relational, it creates a duplicate of one of the columns on the relational model, and alters it's name appendig a number 1 after it. If I try engineering again, it is going to create another column appending a number 2 and so on.... I think this is a bug.... am I right?
    My alternate solution is to drop the foreign key on the relational model, thus dropping both columns, and then engineering from Logical again. Everything keeps working fine, until I close my model. When I open it again, the same problem reappears....

    Philip,
    Sorry for my too late reply, as I forgot to flag this discussion to notify me via e-mail. Thanks for your response, but I was actually using DM 4.0.1.836 and this issue still persisted.
    I just downloaded DM 4.0.2.840, and the issue still persists. I just opened my original model and, without making any changes, tried to forward engineer from logical to relational, and it brings up differences on exactly the same tables.
    Wolf
    P.S.: I've gone through the motions of dropping the FKs on the relational model, dropping any orphaned columns (from these FKs) and re-engineering. Afterwards, I saved and closed all models, closed the application, opened it again and opened my model and the issue persists.
    I also created a new model, with some tables using the same principles, and no error occurred, although in this new model I didn't create a physical model.
    Is it possible that something is wrong with my original model?

  • JBO-33001: Cannot find the configuration file /model/common/bc4j.xcfg

    I'm using ADF and trying to code a data action as follows:
    package checks.view;
    import oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataActionContext;
    import oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataForwardAction;
    import oracle.jbo.ApplicationModule;
    import oracle.jbo.Row;
    import oracle.jbo.ViewObject;
    import oracle.jbo.client.Configuration;
    public class DataAction1Action extends DataForwardAction {
    protected void findForward(DataActionContext ctx) throws Exception {
    super.findForward(ctx);
    String am = "model.ChkModule";
    String cf = "ChkModuleLocal";
    ApplicationModule apm = Configuration.createRootApplicationModule(am,cf);
    ViewObject vo = apm.findViewObject("LateCountView");
    vo.executeQuery();
    Row r = vo.first();
    String test = r.getAttribute("LateCount").toString();
    System.out.println(test);
    The code compiles OK, but when I run it I get the above error message.
    Can someone help me with this.
    Thanks

    This is the same problem I am having. The "Model" product contains the AppModule and it's entity and view objects.
    I right-clicked on the AppModule and chose "Business Components Deployment". This created in the Resources folder a Model.bcdeploy, which contained ModelMiddleTier1.deploy and ModelCommon1.deploy.
    When I went to the project properties of my "WS" project in the same workspace, in the Dependencies panel, Model.bcdeploy and its 2 .deploy files were now listed bewas now listed beneath model.jpr. There is a check mark beside model.jpr. I thought this would do it.
    I then recreated the "J2EE Web Service" from class file in the WS project, and deployed to the external OC4J.
    When I test the web service using OC4J's test facility, I still get the same JBO-33001 error complaining that the adfws/model/common/bc4j.xcfg file is not in the classpath.
    Does something else need done to get it to be found at run time?
    This is JDev 10.1.3.
    Thanks for any ideas.
