Wrong "To:" Address when Replying

Hi,
I've set up a new IMAP account in Mail 6.6, and created two aliases by adding them to the appropriate, "Email Address", field in Preferences > Accounts.
As a test, I sent an email from the new account using one of the aliases as the, "From:", and the main account address (ie. the account to which the alias is attached) as the, "To:".  It arrived just fine, and shows as being from the alias, as expected.
However, if I choose to, "Reply To:", or, "Reply-To All:" from within this received email, the, "To:" field contains the address the email was received by (the main account address) instead of the address the email was sent from (the alias).  Additionally, the, "From:" drop-down menu is the alias—though I think this is expected behaviour.
I opened the same email in Mutt, and performing a, "Reply", or, "Reply-To All:", causes the correct, "To:", address to be generated by default: the alias.
I've viewed the headers and the, "Return-Path:", and, "From:", addresses are the alias, as would be expected.  I can't find any reason why Mail would not choose the alias as the Reply-To address.
Is this a bug?

Go to Settings>Store and sign out of the wrong iTunes account and sign into the one with your correct email address.

  • Triple address when replying

I have a curious problem. As far as I can tell, this only happens when replying to email sent to me from cox.net. When I reply, the address of the person gets listed three times in the To: box. It will look something like this:
    "[email protected]> <[email protected]" <[email protected]>
My email still gets to the person. As far as I know, they only receive one email from me, though I haven't asked them whether they are getting triple responses.
    My internet provider is cox.net.
Any idea what is going on? TIA.

    Al,
this is a long-standing bug in Mail (I reported it to Apple back in April 2007 and it was subsequently marked as a duplicate of another bug).
It seems as if nobody sees a reason to fix this as it seems to be cosmetic only (messages get delivered correctly).
IIRC, this happens with headers in the form
    From: <[email protected]>
(no full name, and using brackets).

  • Using specific email address when replying

I have a little problem. I have four email accounts in my mail program and I, more than often, forget to switch my "from" email address to the one that correlates to the right "to" email address.
For example, I have a University email account. When I write emails to fellow students and faculty I accidently send it from my personal gmail address and many times that makes my email turn into spam when it gets to the University server. This keeps people from getting it.
In preferences I have it set up to send new mail from account of last viewed mailbox. This is what gets me into trouble.
Is there any way to assign an email address to respond to other email addresses (i.e. make my university email address be used in the "from" section when it's responding to another university "to" address)?
    Thanks in advance
    Tim

Well on the bright side, it usually only takes a few weeks to develop a new habit
I'll keep this thread in mind and if I ever run across a way to do this I'll let you know

  • Entered wrong email address when setting up an account, what will happen to credit card?

Yes, you can sync your own music to your iPod via your computer's iTunes. If you have the music on your computer but not yet in your computer's iTunes then if it's in a compatible format then you should be able to add it via File > Add To Library - if it's not in a compatible format you will need to convert it first.
If your iPod is on iOS 3 then it sync to the iPod app, if it's on iOS 5+ then it will go into the Music app (in iOS 5 the iPod app was redesigned and renamed).

  • Wrong email address when sending a photo out of Photo app

    Hi all,
when sending a photo on my iPhone 4 out of the photo app and selecting a "from" email address (like [email protected]), the photo get's sent through an email address (like [email protected]). The [email protected] is configured in the settings just as calendar, no emails, no notes.
This is so strange! Has anybody a glimpse of a notion how to get rid of this problem?
    Cheers.

You can try resetting network settings then all settings. Goto Settings>General>Reset>Reset network settings or all settings. You will need Appleid and Wifi to reenter after reset. If that is not working then go settings>mail contacts calendars>tap account>delete. Now tap add account and reenter it.

  • I entered a wrong email address when I first set up my iPhone 5c, I successfully changed my Apple ID but when I try to download anything it still comes up with my old apple id

I entered an invalid email when I first set up my iPhone 5s and forgot the password for the Apple ID. I managed to successfully change the Apple ID and password and validated it through email. However when I tried to download something from the App Store it still came up with my old apple id so I can't download anything. How can I fix this?

It appears that you have apps that need updating that were pruchased from more than one account
    - Go to settings>Store and sign out and sign into your account.
    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

    Incorrect...
Re-Downloading Paid Apps for Free only works if using the SAME Apple ID that made the Original Purchase.

  • Help with deleting Apple ID, wrong email address when signing up... :S

I tried to create a new Apple ID... but stupidly made a typo in my email, and I put my credit card info in it... any way I can delete it? When I try to sign in, it says I need verification, but I can't since I put @gmail.cm rather than @gmail.com..help?

If I understand correctly now, if you have 3 Apple ID's - you will have to sign in to the App Store every time with the correct Apple ID for each app that you want to update. The apps are always tied to the ID that they were purchased with - so you need to enter the ID and the password in each instance.
Go back to Settings>Store>Apple ID and sign in and out as needed. You can also try signing in and out of the account right in the App Store app. Go to the featured tab, swipe down to the bottom and tap on the Apple ID in there.
Am I understanding correctly now or am I still missing the boat?

You should be able to change the email address on the account by logging into the account via the 'manage your apple id' button on http://appleid.apple.com, via the Store > View Account menu option on a computer's iTunes, or by tapping on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store on your phone and logging in

  • Multiple POP/SMTP Accounts Bug - Mail uses wrong 'from' address

I've be scratching my head over this but can't see anything else wrong so I figure it must be a bug with Mail 4.2:
I have multiple POP3/SMTP accounts configured, lets say:
[email protected], to receive on pop.blah1.com and send on smtp.blah1.com
[email protected], to receive on pop.blah2.com and send on smtp.blah2.com
If I create emails sourced from [email protected], they are sent just fine.
However if I try to email from [email protected], I get a pop-up telling me that smtp.blah2.com is offline and I need to select another SMTP server.
I checked the server settings a hundred times over and also resorted to telnetting to port 25 of blah2.com to ensure it was full working (yes it was!).
[Even Connection Doctor thinks the servers are all good]
So next I try telling emails sourced from [email protected] to send via smtp.blah1.com - Eureka, it works!
But this is a little odd - so I check the received email headers and compare these with the 'Sent' header.
It appears that mail thinks its sending the email from [email protected] but the email actually ends up being sourced from [email protected]!
So I can only presume that Mail is marking the smtp.blah2.com server as down because it is trying to use the wrong source address when sending a message and therefore being refused by the SMTP relay.
    Has anyone else seen this?

    Thanks chaps,
The other accounts are direct POP3/SMTP to my hosted servers - they are not passing through GMail and so it couldn't cause the issue.
I have, however, found the problem inadvertently while trying to run a comparison with Thunderbird - the good news is, its not Mail as such, though it does raise a couple of other questions...
Basically, whichever SMTP server is running on my hosted servers, it does not allow a message with no text in the body, while Google's SMTP implementation clearly does.
As my test messages only had a subject line, they were failing on my servers but working OK with GMail.
    The questions therefore are:
    1. Shouldn't Mail pad an empty message to ensure it goes (MS Outlook works fine with empty messages but interestingly Thunderbird also doesn't)
    2. Even assuming its OK to use GMail's SMTP as a relay, shouldn't Mail use the correct source address rather than making it look like the emails came from my GMail account?
    - I'm not sure if this is 'allowed' with modern SMTP from a security perspective but I think that some services support it.
    Thanks for all your input!
    J

  • Wrong billing address

    Hello
I've entered wrong billing address when i was trying to buy ipod nano, after few seconds I got message saying that apple blocked 5,35$ on my card... what should I do? Is there some sort of waiting time after which apple will unblock my money?

If it is a question of security at Apple i think they will return your payments within ten working days. However if it is your bank who have picked up this transfer they may have deleted your security information and frozen your account. Check your account balance and contact your banks customer service department if anything is wrong there. If not contact Apple via email or telephone in the customer support section of the website
    Hope this helps
