Wrong user on updating certain software
Hello.
I'm on my work iMac, and when I try to update some of the apps (Numbers, Keynote, Pages and iMovie) it asks for the previous users password. We did make a user for me, and deleted the old user, as well as I'm signed into the App Store, not him.
I've tried putting Numbers in the Trashcan, but dare not empty it; when I go to app store and find Numbers, it says it costs money, but I should come free with this iMac.
How do I resolve this program, so the apps are using my apple ID instead of the old, deleted one?

This is what happens when business allows folks to set up new Macs with their personal consumer Apple ID. Technically, all the software on that Mac belongs to the previous user. You will need to follow the steps for a 2nd hand Mac and erase it and start over as a new Mac. But it would be better if your company has an IT dept set up and control the Apple IDs used on company Macs.
Preparing a 2nd Hand Mac for use -
You need to erase the HDD, reinstall the version of OS X that shipped from the factory on the Mac and then set it up as new with your own Apple ID.

My Nano is no working because of wrong operation of updating ipod software

I have the same problem, i accidently clicked update software..and it didnt load all the way and now when i plug in the ipod nothing updates to it, everything is deleted off the i pod even though itunes has songs.. someone please help

Your username is the foldername you will find under your /Users/accountname/ folder. This is the one with the house icon on it. To change your password see:

Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu.
Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow
instructions in the dialog window that will appear.

i have just reinstalled my mac os x, in fact yesterday, i have not been able to update my software or change anything at all, i try to do a software update and it is asking me for an administrators username and password that was not happening before, i enter the username and password i created and it comes back wrong, its driving me nuts, been to keychain but unable to figure it out, its asking for a system unlock and i have no clue what that is.
am desperate.Stick the 10.6 disk into the computer and reboot holding the c or option key down, select the disk to boot from.
In the installer menu is a Utiltiies menu and a password reset.
If you don't remmember the name, reboot the computer holding the command and s keys down
a black screen with white type appears, when it's finished, dbackspace any extra ssss you have made and then type
ls /Users
(that's Larry, Sam, space, slash, Users)
and press return, a list of user names on the machine appears
type exit and reboot and use the 10.6 disk to reset your password -
When I go to update my software using the app store download, it always asks for the previous user's ID, not mine (my IT guy at school's-I am a faculty with admin priviledges). I have signed in as me, have set the main preferences login user as me,and everywhere on the laptop I can use my apple ID except here. It always shows me a greyed out ID of my IT. How can I reset this to my ID? It doesn't give me an option to change the user ID, only a link to reset password. I reset it, but it did not change the problem. Can someone help me?
It's not an ID problem, it's an ownership problem.
When someone uses their personal Apple ID to buy and download content, the content is licensed to them and has their Apple ID engrained in it's DNA. It is an anti-piracy program. And when that personal Apple ID is used to setup a new Mac, it involves the Mac itself, the shipping OS and any pre-installed apps as well.
It's not the correct way to handle Macs that belong to a business or an institution. And had it been handled correctly they would not now be in this predictument needing a drastic remedy. -
Mac App Store update: right Apple ID but wrong user account
My Mac App Store updates get associated to the wrong user account but the correct Apple ID.
I live in Germany and have an iMac and a MacBook Pro, both purchased under Snow Leopard and now running Lion 10.7.2. Just after upgrading to Lion I "purchased" a free App (BibleReader 5.0.0). This morning I logged into my wife's user account on the MacBook Pro, and the App Store icon flagged an update. I switched to my user account and was surprised to see that the update wasn't flagged there. By listing my purchases I did suceed in finding an "update" button for BibleReader, but pressing it resulted in a (German) error message whch translates as "An update is available for another account. Please log in with the account you used to purchase the App". But that is what I had just done.
Intrigued I went back to my wife's user account. By logging onto the Mac App Store with my Apple ID from my wife's user account I did manage to update the app. Later at work I got the same error message on the iMac. But this time the only other user account on the machine belongs to Computing Services: I don't have their password and I ought not to use admin rights to gain access to their account. So I can't perform the upgrade on the iMac.
All family iTunes / App Store purchases are via my main Apple ID. My wife's user account on the MacBook Pro only exists so that I can manually synchronise our iCloud address books (she has an iPad).

All the applications you purchase on the App Store are registered to your Apple ID, so you have to use your Apple ID to update them, or you have to purchase those applications again using the Apple ID they are using on that computer, so they will be able to update them -

i have to restore my phone from back up but in order to do it i had to update my software. now that my software is updated there isnt enough room on the phone to back up. is there a way to only restore certain things from the backup like contacts?
Because it says it's incompatible when it can't be, I got hope. I get error messages all the time with my iPod and iPhone that it cannot sync and that 'this device is not capapble of connecting to iTunes' stuff. I literally forget that happened, plug it in again and it works, I later realize that iTunes made a mistake, they do that.

I have an I Pod Nano and would get messages to update my software. In my I Tunes I have 1,900 songs but after the updates it will only sync 933 songs. My current software version is 1.0.2. What am I doing wrong or is it something in the software. I have not done anything different in my I Tunes and all songs are checked. Could someone please help or advise me what to do?

I will try am explain what I see: I hooked up my I Pod Clicked on Music checked Sync Music 1909 Songs select Playlist, Artists, albums, and genres checked Include music videos Playlists checked 50's Music checked 70's Music checked 80's Music checked 90's Music checked 2000 Music checked 2010 Music These are songs that I downloaded onto my I Tunes. I bought me a new computer but when my data was transferred from old computer to new computer a lot of my songs on my hard drive were lost, but they were able to save all my songs on I tunes. My I Pod is still connected Clicked on "On this Ipod" Music 938 Songs 2.2 days So my question to you is if I have 1,909 songs on my ITunes how come only 938 transferred to my IPod. I checked my IPod and it shows only 938 songs transferred. This did not happen before until I Tunes asked me if I wanted to update to a newer version. Last month I did have all my 1,909 songs on my I Pod. I hope this explains what I am asking

In AppStore.app for some reason when I try to update my apps, it asks for the wrong user account than the one that I am logged in with. This makes me unable to update my apps
You would have downloaded those apps with the wrong Apple ID then created a new Apple ID which is the on you are on now. This is acting as normal because all content downloaded from the iTunes and App Store is attached to the Apple ID it was downloaded with. To stop this you would delete the apps and redownload them with your current Apple ID you are signed in with.

You need to delete those applications and redownload or repurchase them from your Apple ID.

The wrong user name pops up when I try to update apps on Iphone. Unable to update or change incorrect user name.
It is popping up because you have apps installed that you bought with the old AppleID, you can either delete those apps or buy the apps again using your new Apple ID, if they were free apps then not a big deal, paid apps obviously means you would have to buy them twice.
