Wrongly charged for spotify premium

Hi I have recently (03.07.15) took up the chance to upgrade to premium for a 2 month trial period, this is an offer which you were running until 04.07.15.
The trial period should have been free of charge for the 2 months and then after this period if I did not unsubscribe then my membership would automatically renew and I would be charged.
However, after checking my bank today I have noticed that there is a transaction leaving my account of £9.99 with the reference 'SpotifyUK' so it would seem that I have been charged already.
Can someone advise on how I can go about being refunded this money which has been incorrectly charged?
Thanks
Jerone

Hi Anthony,
Thanks for your reply with reasons to why this may have happened.
I think I may have been part of a first month free trial when I signed up years ago, so this may explain it!
I'm not happy that it is not clear you can only have one trial per account, so my subscription is going to roll of the month until (03.08.15) I guess so as long as I cancel by this date, I won't be charged next month will I?
Thanks
Jerone
Hi,
Indeed that is correct, and the month of trial previously does explain you getting charged. Yes, I can understand that it should be clearer, a fair few people come along with this issue. I'll pop a message over to the staff and see if anything can be done.
If you cancel via your subscriptions page before then, you won't get charged next month and you'll revert to free on the renewal date (which in your case is the 3rd July). Once you've cancelled, just make sure you get a confirmation email saying you've cancelled, as some people don't and then get charged again. If the email doesn't appear (check your spam box as well just in case), it probably just means you didn't quite complete all the steps, so try it again and make sure you get through the onslaught of buttons that probably appear saying 'Are you really definitely completely sure' ;)

Hi, and welcome to the community!
If you submit an online contact form; someone at Spotify can sort this out for you.
Once you get an automated reply; make sure to reply to it directly (even if it's from a no reply); and it will be sent to the Spotify staff.

  • Do not want to pay for spotify premium after free 48 hour trial.

This may be a stupid question, but bear with me.  I recently signed up for spotify and did not realize that there was a free and premium subscription.  I was automatically put on a 48 free trial for premium, but I do not want to start paying for premium when the trial is over.  For those that have more experience with spotify, do I just wait until the free trial is over and then I'll automatically be on the free subscription, or do I need to delete an account or the trial in order to not have to pay anything?  Thanks for your help in advance.

    Hi there,
I'm interested in getting a 3-month premium subscription for my sister for Christmas but I want her to take advantage of the 30-day free trial to make sure she really likes this site (she will be mainly using this on her iPad so I have some concerns that I want to make sure to iron out before she starts). Anyhow, I just wanted to know if her 3-month subscription will start from the date of purchase or AFTER the 30-day free trial is over. If you can help, please let me know. Today is December 24th, 2012 & I would like to purchase her Christmas gift today or tomorrow so she has something to enjoy. She specifically mentioned this website so I'm pretty sure she'll like it. Also, please tell me if I can open an account for her or if she has to do it herself. She knows how to use computers but I'm a little more tech-savvy so I'd like to do it for her just for convenience-sake. Lastly, I hate to ask this late but please respond ASAP because I need to get her set up as soon as I can.
    Thanks,

  • VAT wrongly charged for CC yearly subscription - Adobe support very mediocre

I wanted to share my bad experience with Adobe's customer support. I got a CC 1 year subscription with a monthly payment plan at £38.11 + £8.77 tax = £46.88. I'm VAT registered in the UK and all this time Adobe has charged me Irish VAT (23%). Now according to Adobe, there's an option on the subscription page where you inform them of your VAT information. If there was one, then it wasn't very obvious. I created a support ticket for this and the response I got was:
'This email is regarding your request for VAT ID updation issue. Lino, we are sorry for the additional time consumed in resolving this issue and we appreciate your support and patience in this regard. We had like to inform, your VAT ID (GB157359873) has been updated under your Adobe account and you will no more be charged VAT. However, we cannot issue refund for previous transactions as VAT ID was not updated previously. We apologize for any disappointment this may cause and look forward to serve you..'
I would understand if I was on a month to month membership but I was on a yearly contract.
Now had they charged me a whole year in advance £562.50 inc.Tax. It would mean I wouldn't have been able to claim back the tax even after informing them half way into the membership. This is unacceptable, I believe that like with any tax exempt product/services, they should be able to refund past overpaid tax for the year membership. Failing to do that, they can offer a free membership period equivalent to tax amount due.
This experience has just shown me how Adobe's service is very lacklustre and they are unable to cater an international membership service. They should just go back selling software per application, end of story. They are unable to cope with the various International tax trade issues.
Conclusion: I'm cancelling my membership for a minimum of 3 months and going to find an alternative solution. Thank you very much Adobe.
Has anyone had a similar experience?

  • Cost of Spotify Premium for different countries in relation to USD.

Cost of Spotify Premium for different countries converted to USD.
    Australian dollar $11.99  = $12.5
    Euro 9.99€  = $12.5
    Swiss franc 12.95 = $13.5
    Swedish kronor 99 =  $15
    British pound 9.99 = $15.8
    Danish krone 99 = $16.64
    Norwegian krone 99 = $17
Price for Spotify premium in the US: $9.99
I could come up with several different reasons why this is how it is, however I would like someone who actually works at spotify to state the reasons why the price for spotify premium differs so much between countries. And why it would be cheapest in the USA.
    Thank you.
    Tvspotify1

Yes, but when you're buying a jacket.. or a DVD (a lot of jurisdictions, it's not illegal to have a region free player, only to circumvent copy protection - copy protection and region locking being distinct concepts that often vendors will attempt to intertwine but are distinct as aims).. or a CD, you can import it from that cheaper market - in some cases still cheaper with shipping than if you bought it locally even factoring in local consumption taxes. Sure, it might have some different promotional tracks, or different "extra features", or different language options in the subtitles... but the core content's generally going to be the same.
Case in point. I have an Android phone. I needed an MHL adaptor. I checked local retailer ... $40AUD
    I checked a retailer online.. $30AUD - shipped..
It took a week to arrive, but arrive it did.
With digitally distributed, geo-IP locked content - you lose that ability to shop across markets. To me, it sends the wrong signals to charge one group of people one price, and another group of people another price for the mostly the same content when it's available on the same global network. In essence, you're punishing people who you're trying to ween off the "internet is free" mentality into the world of subscriptions and micropayments.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate spotify in and of itself - I've been using it a lot at work of late and a lot of friends, both in Australia and internationally have given it a go. It's totally awesome to be able to hear something on the radio or in a movie or on TV.. tag it with Shazam or Google Music Search.. and then to key it into Spotify and hear it play on demand. It's also totally awesome that there's a linux client available - which although in alpha - works.. stably.. (one reason you'll never find me buying an Apple product is the whole 'thalt shall use iTunes' mantra)... and ok, maybe I'm not your average consumer (running Linux on the desktop, stock Android on my phone with root access, bearded and a system administrator - living stereotype much?).. but I'm interested in doing the right thing, and I know content has to move to pay with advertising revenues falling and content, well, more generally intellectual property, increasingly becoming a new and renewable commodity in a world where consumption of physical resources needs to be curtailed.
I know the local record companies probably play into the mix.. and that by taking a segmented market approach as opposed to a global market approach, there's probably a certain "flagfall" cost in smaller markets that means a higher cost as the smaller markets won't be able to match the economies of scale that would enable larger markets to charge a lower price per user but still make more by having more room to play with the margins. I guess it just grinds my gears that the price for the same 1s and 0s is higher.
I guess we'll see what happens if/when spotify considers mobile provider partnerships (especially in countries like Australia where unlimited data often has many asterisks/T&Cs, doesn't exist or costs a lot), and if the AUD should fall against the USD (we're holding above parity for awhile now)... if the price will rise then or hold?
I'll probably succumb when my advertising supported listening is cut back to 2.5 hours a week if I'm still working in a business that allows employees to stream :) .. I guess it's just being so familiar with what the currency's doing and initially being very interested in mobile streaming - and having heard things on US sites talking about the price - to find out, "no, you actually pay more".. well.. it kinda dulled the shine a bit.
I hope you find my post (although perhaps a bit long winded) polite. I believe such conversations are always best dealt with in an even tone.. and again FWIW, I do thoroughly enjoy and congratulate you on providing a working linux client... and in an apt repository at that!

  • Spotify Premium without credit card?!?!

I got a Spotify account yesterday and downloaded it unto my computer and iPhone. However I noticed that I had Spotify Premium. I never signed up for Spotify Premium and I did not give any credit card information. I checked the subscription page and it said that I had Spotify Premium till 3-26-2012 unless I renewed my subscription so I'm guessing I'm on the free trial. But I thought you needed a credit card to have the free trial.  What's going on? Am I going to be charged or is something wrong? Also, if I don't give my credit card number, am I going to be asked to be charged or will they charge me from my phone or something? Please help!!!!!!!!

Since I got a similar question I won't create a new topic and simply write here.
This credit card topic was created nearly a year ago, it might have changed in some countries.
However, in mine (Austria) it has not. I can't buy anything without my credit card. I understand for the subscriptions I'll need a credit card. That's okay. What I don't get is the thing, why I should need a credit card for purchasing a so called "e-card", the only way I thought to get to a premium subscription. I got paypal and transfered some money on it, regardless I need to put in my credit card, as if it was a subscription.
Is there any chance of changing this so it becomes possible to get a premium subscription without credit card? At least you should change your Paypal methods on gift cards, I don't get a clue why I need a card here.
When I look to germany, they offer a function called "Sofortüberweisung", translated instant transfer. That is what is needed for Austria too. You should know, in Austria credit cards aren't so common like to other countries, because it has been developed an local alternative to pay something per card, which can't be compared with a VISA or so.
So let me know when it becomes possible to spend my money for your services.

  • Charged for Student Spotify but Haven't received Premium service.

I tried to get Premium with the student discount but couldn't since I couldn't be found in the college's system. This made sense to me since I haven't registered for classes or started attending, however I recieved a charge for $4.99 from Spotify but have yet to recieve any Premium perks and my account is still labeled as "Free." I already tried logging out and back in as well as reinstalling the app in both my phone and my laptop.

Hi there! I recommend reaching out directly to Spotify Support. They can be reached through their Twitter Page or through the online contact form.
Make sure to check your inbox and junk folder for an email from Spotify. Once you get it, make sure to reply back right away, even if it says it's from a "no-reply" email.
    Cheers!

  • Charged for premium on free trial

I've been charged 9.99 when I cancelled well before the 30 days were up. After trying to find a number to call, I find that I can only contact through the contact forms. After doing more research, I've seen how poor Spotify is in getting back to people with these problems. So not only can I not call to get immediate results, I have to wait for Spotify at their convenience to give me my money back. Which could be a couple months and another  9.99 charge. Yes, I filled out your form to get help, but I don't get how an organization can get away with not posting some kind of customer service number. Especially when they're wrongfully taking peoples money. I've read a lot of cases having this same problem just in the past couple weeks. I was a happy Spotify user until this happened, and this really puts a bitter taste in my mouth.

    Hey! :)
It sounds like you actually have two accounts, one of which is still on premium. If you get in touch with the customer services team directly using the online contact form they will be able to make sure it is all cancelled and make sure your not out of pocket.
If you get an automated email reply back directing you to the community or help pages, you need to reply directly to that email (even if its from no-reply) and one of the customer services agents will get back to you as soon as possible.

  • I have been charged 3 times for student premium and am still on free.

I have been charged 3 times for student premium when it says I can't be verified that I am a student even though I manually sent it in 2 hours ago and still haven't gotten anything back from spotify. I've checked email and spam and have emailed them again and hour ago and still nothing but I still lot chanrged...why?

Hey there , welcome to the community!
If you contact Spotify through online contact form, they will be able to sort out these multiple charges and see what's going on with the student verification. Once you send in the form, you should receive a reply from them within 24-48 hours. If you need any further help, let me know! :)

  • Why was I charged for premium when I canceled before my free trial was up.

Why was I charged for premium when I canceled before my free trial was up. It shows I have the free version in my prayers file yet I was charged almost 13 dollars. I do NOT want premium and I shouldn't have been charged for it

Hello & welcome to the Community!
You say you've been charged almost 13 dollars right?
It seems like you are subscribed to Spotify through the in-app payments.
Your subscription is being handled by Apple.
You'll need to cancel directly from the App Store in order to stop getting charged monthly.
Just follow these steps to cancel your subscription:
Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
Tap on iTunes & App Store.
Tap on your Apple ID at the top.
Choose View Apple ID from the popup menu.
Enter your password when prompted and tap on OK.
Tap on Manage under Subscriptions .
    Tap on the Spotify subscription.
Turn the Auto-Renewal option to Off.
    Hope this helps! ♫

  • Charged for premium application, when I canceled years ago.

I recently contacted Verizon about charges that they said were "surcharges". I'm an honest person and when I see a bill in the mail I just go online and pay it. Finally opened a paper bill to find out the $9.99 is for my premium Slacker radio that was canceled years ago. I understand I should have paid more attention to my bill, but when contacting Verizon customer service and telling them that I canceled the premium radio years ago they say all they can refund is up to 3 months and cancel it for me. I advised them again that the account that I have on slacker still shows basic and there shouldn't even be a $10 charge on the account and I've been paying it for who know's how long. My question here is, when I get confirmation or no confirmation of cancellation from slacker who is responsible to pay? Verizon says they are not in control of 3rd party apps, but if Slacker hasn't been getting any money from me, and I've been paying Verizon doesn't it make sense that Verizon has been taking $10 a month from me for an unknown length of time? I'm still waiting on Slacker to respond with the information of my account, but when I log on it tells me I've got a basic account. Therefore I should have been charged at all for the account right? I'm just a little frustrated with Verizon telling me they can refund up to 3 months, which already says they have done something, but that's all their willing to do. Is there anything else that anyone can think of to try? Thanks for all your help in advance
    Ryan

Above is the email I just received from Slacker. They received notice 9/19/2012 to cancel it, they did, and on my bill there is still a charge. I wonder if that's just the furthest they are able to go back at this time and still see that. When I moved to Missouri I made sure to cancel it because it wasnt responsible for me at the time financially, I don't care about 10 bucks, but Slacker just said they know for sure it was canceled in 2012. I honestly think it was canceled before that and VZW dind't do it.
