WRT 300v1 and apple computers

OK, Just bought the new WRT 300vl wireless broadband router.
I accessed the router through a direct ethernet connection the web base way.
Tried to set up the router using the url way but am getting no
where, it acknowledges that I am conversing with the router on settings, but when I try to connect to the internet my powerbook says I am not connected. I am using safari, but I read in some help section that I must use Microsoft internet explorer in order for this router to be set up properly?
Does Linksys have a setup/help guide for apple computers using OSX?
It says on one pdf that it is compatible with MacIntosh computers
but really,
when did Apple last produced a Macintosh?
I have an apple powerbook not a Macintosh powerbook.
Should I take this router back to the store and find
a wireless N router brand that is more compatible with
Apple computers?
I am sorta in a fix because my old wireless
hub went out and I also rely on my VOIP phone to communicate.
I am currently using a neighbors computer to relay this message.
help and
Thanks.

All faqs and knowledge base articles from linksys are on the linksys support pages. There should be something for macos, too, I guess.
I wouldn't worry about the naming "Macintosh". Apple changed the names so often you'll find the weirdest things those requirement sections at times. The router will work fine with a computer running macos. I had never problems running my iMac through a RV042 or WRT54G, wired or wireless.
To figure out what the exact problem is: could you please check the Status tab on the router configuration? Post the status output please. Also, if it is unconnected there, press the connect button and post the exact error message you get if you get one.
If you are connected on the Status page, please also try a ping command in a "Terminal" window. Lookup the gateway and DNS server ip addresses on the status page. Then ping those ip addresses, e.g.,
ping 123.234.211.121
Post if it succeeds or the exact error message if not.

What are the problems with Minecraft game and Apple computers.  I've read that the two are incompatible.

You have a very limited amount of time before night falls and the monsters might come out. You have to HOLD DOWN the mouse button to hit things to change them. Hit the earth to dig a cave. Hit a tree repeatedly to get wood.
A two button mouse is superior, because a lot of actions require a left click. <-- OH That is why they say it is not compatible!
It is compatible, you just need to left click sometimes!

  • Linksys SLM2005 Switch and Apple Computers HELP!!

I have a MBP 17 inch, MB 13 Inch and and ATV. I have a Linksys SLM2005 Switch. When ever I plug in an apple computer into the switch, it keeps telling me that a cable is disconnected and the port light on the switch will not light up. I can take the same cable to a PC or any other device that is not an apple product, and it will work just fine, lighting up a light and allowing access into the switch.
Can anyone tell me what is going on here?? Why will my Macs not work, I have tried to manually set the ip address as well, to no avail. just keeps acting as though there is nothing connected. I have tried all resets as well. Any help here would be great.
    Thanks

What are you using the switch for?

  • Cisco Switching and Apple Computers

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with running Macs' on their Cisco networking equipment. It seems to only be one generation of IMacs' that disable ports on our switches. I do realize many variables may have a role in disabling port settings but it's only a chosen few that it happens with. Not having the authority to program each port being disabled to run in full duplex mode versus default settings from manufacturing in auto-negotiate I'm at a loss. Even after explaining the solution, nothing gets done. My question is could someone post some documentation of some sort backing up my theories? Also if anyone could please include anything about proper port settings for access points on our VLANs that also become disabled at times. I do know through research done that all access points should be classified as such on the network. Am I correct in stating this also? I thank you in advance for any information or help you may provide for me and posts will be rated.

  • Palm devices and Apple computers

I was thinking about getting a palm T5 and I was wondering how well palm devices work with macs. Does the iCal sync ok and everything else (i know there is a palm desktop version for mac but i do not want to use that, i like ical to much) so does iCal sync fine and how about other apps, can they sync with my palm, Mail? Address book? etc....
    Thank you,
    TM

Thanks, Wade. I didn't know that.
I've actually already installed the Palm Desktop software, so does this mean I'm good to go?
I realize this sounds pretty clueless, but I must confess that's how I am when it comes to this new phone/pda. I've also never used iSync before. In fact, until you mentioned it, I didn't even know it was installed.
I just opened iSync for the first time and tried to sync up with my Treo via bluetooth, and it found the device (very cool!) but was unable to sync. I got a message saying "iSync can not connect to this device."
When I tried to pair the device using the bluetooth setup assistant, it found the device, but all the boxes were grayed out and it said that "there were no supported services found on your mobile pphone."
Any idea what I'm doing wrong.

  • Imac problems and Apple Genius

    Hi All,
I posted a thread about my new iMac freezing and not responding and many of the people from the Apple discussion gave me great advice and support. Unfortunately, even though we repaired the permissions the computer froze up again and a call to Apple support had me doing a reinstall and archive to try and resolve the problem.
After talking to the Apple care tech, he said that it was not normal for the iMac to be freezing the way it was, I requested to I take the computer back to the Apple store that I bought it from. The tech connected me to the store and I made an appointment for Tue. at 10am.
After explaning to the Apple Genius what was going on he ran some diagnostics and told me that the hardware passed all the tests and as far as he could tell. When I questioned him as to why we were having so many problems and all the Mac owners I talked to on the discussion forum said this was very unusual and Macs are extremely reliable.
His reply was that the people on the forum didn't know what they were talking about because they are not Apple employees and didn't have any training. I was amazed by his comment and when I asked him if he was suggesting that it's common for Macs to freeze up and not work properly he started back peddling and said it was uncommon.
I left the computer for more extensive testing but I'm not at all impressed with the Apple Genius that I met and I'm even less confident that my iMac will be fixed properly. I've never had a computer that crapped out when it wasn't even two months old and after dealing with the Mac genius I'm less than pleased with my foray into the Apple computer experience.
    Roger9070

    Hi Boece,
Here are the specs 20" iMac, Core 2 Dou proc 2.16 GHZ, 1 gig ram, 250 gig HDD, 8X Superdrive, Airport wireless, wireless keyboard and mouse, and I'm not sure what videocard is in it.
It has OS X 10.4.9, standard programs that are installed iLife, iWorks, Toast 8, and Mac Office, plus I just re-downloaded software updates from Apple due to the reinstall and archive.
As for how the computer was dealt with during the freezes and lockups my wife called Applecare and they walked her through powering down the computer via the on and off switch no other method would work.
As the computer was rebooting they had her hold down a key combination that included R and P and she verified and repaired the disk permissions. My wife asked if having to many programs opened could cause this because the computer was running very sluggish if she was working in word and opened Safari, he said no.
After repairing the permissions and checking the HDD my wife asked what permissions were and why they would do that he told her what they were, she still doesn't understand exactly what they are, he said he didn't know why but that it was uncommon on such a new Mac and said if it continued we might have to reinstall OS X.
The following two weeks we had occasional freezes ups and a reboot or force quit would normally resolve the issue but then this past Saturday the Mac locked up and again we could not login in shutdown, or restarted. She waited until I got home and then we again called Applecare and they had me put the OS install disk #1 and power down the system with the on off switch unplug the power cord plug it back in and then turn the system on holding down the C key. After the mouse and keyboard were recognized we walked through a couple of setup screens and then went to options and did a install and archive keeping the network settings.
While doing this I explained to the Applecare tech that we had been experiencing problems from the beginning and they were getting progressively worse and asked him if it would be possible to bring it in to the store for a full checkup I felt that something was definitely wrong with the Mac and wanted to resolve it quickly and get our Mac back up and running.
If you check my other posts you'll find another one about the Mac freezing and locking up which I posted after the first major problem. Dealing with and building Windows PC's I've found many times that forums and discussion groups are great places to research a problem because many times someone else has experienced the same or similar problems and a fix or work around can be found.
What I learned from this was that this is not a common problem and other users felt it "could be" a hardware or software issue but was most definitely not a normal thing for any Mac. I've also found that people in these forums are more inclined to give an unbiased and honest opinion based on "their real world use of the product" than someone who is involved in the business.
Being new Mac users we have very little "real world" experience with a Mac but according to the few people we know and those that responded on this forum our problems were not something that is to be expected from any Mac let alone a brand new one and as far as I'm concerned it is something that should be resolved swiftly and to our satisfaction. A brand new product that is not functioning properly is unacceptable no matter who makes it or what it is and the company should fix or replace it without question.
I have only been on this forum for a very short while but so far all the users have been helpful and encouraging and I'm hoping to learn from those who have much more experience than me with OS X and Apple computers in general. Unfortunately, my experience so far hasn't been quite what I'd hoped for with my iMac and my wife and I are concerned that this matter isn't being handled the way it should be so far and this is very disappointing to us given the excellent reputation that Apple has with many others.
    Thank You, Roger

  • HT3819 Home Share issue: I have a Mac and Apple TV. Both are log into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view purchased movies on AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers. Itunes sidebar-no

Has anyone else found solution to Apple devices not 'seeing' each other on Home Share?  I have a Macbook Air (new Nov'12) and Apple TV (new Dec'12). Software updated on both. Both are logged into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view movies purchased from iTunes on my AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers... and ... Itunes sidebar does not have a 'Shared' area at all.  Help please as without this functionality, my Apple TV only provides portal to purchased (i.e. Netflix,...) content which I can get from Wii or Xbox.
I have already tried the following without success:
    1. Homeshare DID work the first day after I setup Apple TV... but the next day it has not worked since then.
    2. Powered off 30 sec then re-started (Apple TV & Macbook & iTunes login)
    3. Checked Firewall settings per Home Sharing troubleshooting guide (correct settings)
    4. Turning on Photostream in iPhoto and selecting iPhoto within iTunes and then checking to see if Photostream shows anything on AppleTV (it shows 'on' for my iTunes account but 'Zero' pictures found ... despite the >3,000 pictures showing avail in iTunes).
I also have 'Remote" app on my iPhone 4, with Home Sharing turned on (same Wifi network)... it has a very similar message as the Apple TV and same result that despite all devices having HomeShare 'on' they cannot see each other:  "Remote will automatically find the iTunes libraries and Apple TVs that have Home Sharing turned on using the account xxxx (it lists my correct itunes account name)."

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

  • Can I use an External hard drive and my computers hard drive for apple tv

Can I use an External hard drive and my computers hard drive for apple tv

If you mean to hold iTunes content to stream then the answer is yes.  Your iTunes library  folder and the media usually live in the same location, but media can be in a different or several different locations.  The external drive wuld have to e connected and powered to stream media to AppleTV.

  • Can we stream music and photos from two Apple computers (different Apple IDs) to home theater?

Purchased Apple TV last week; both computers are running most recent versions of iTunes and Apple Aperture. Apple TV connected via HDMI to AV Receiver.
Computers are macbook pro and iMac.  Bot running most recent (10.9.1)  version of operating system.

We discovered that it was easier to keep one iTunes ID in Apple TV and have the second iTunes ID join using Airplay through an iphone or ipad.  The switching of user IDs in Apple TVs seemed a bit clunky to us, especially with the awful interface using the Apple TV remote.  We did not want to have the second iTunes ID password saved in the Apple TV since several of our kids use that TV, and wanted to prevent large iTunes bills.
    Thanks again for the information.
We like the Apple TV.  However, we have discovered that the wifi is the Aquilles Hill of this devise.  Our ISP offers 50 mbps download speeds from the internet (i tested it using one of the internet speed measuring sites) And the router at home supports 802 g and n proptocols.  The transmission of photos from Macbook Pro to Apple TV was incredibly slow.  Most likely the problem is caused by having the Apple TV near the floor and next to a fireplace; wireless signal has to travel through a physical firewall.  We solved the problem by buying an adaptor that connects to the wall and the router using ethernet cables; signal travels through the electric outlets to another adaptor that is connected  from an electric outlet to the Apple TV via ehternet as well. This improved the experience with this devise quite significantly.

  • Using a NAS as media server that can serve computeres and Apple TV directly

What is the best configuration (performance/price/robustness) to have one single scalable, “backupable” location to store videos and music that can act as a media server accessible by several mac and pc computers as well as several Apple TV within the same house (knowing that the Apple TV would access the location directly not going through a computer).

Not quite true. Apple TV can access NAS orginated stream if you share library. I have done this with GForce NAS. The problem is somwhere else. Sharing is limited to streaming music only at 128kbs. You can see all music on your NAS. NAS runs DAAP-MT server (linux based music streaming) for this which you likely need to enable manually (GForce NAS has this)
Another nasty limitation is that you cannot share stream movies from NAS.
That is the reason I have just bought Eee Box (PC with Win XP Home) and I hooked up number of USB drives with movies that I stream to Apple TV. This PC is very small and it takes very little power so, it can be placed in some corner (e.g. in kitchen when some appliances make noise anyway or in basement) and run 24x7. It will behave as NAS, but it will provide proper streaming of video (just install iTunes for PC on it). You do not need keyboard, mouse or monitor for this PC. I use Tight VNC to manage it remotely from one of my Mac computers... meaning Tight VNC service is run on Eee Box while Mac has built in VNC viewer that you can invoke from "Go to computer" window using following url:
    vnc://ipaddress_of_eeebox
(BTW Tight VNC does not need viewer on any mmachine as it has built-in web interface for screen management - you just need to use browser on port 5800)
To stream to Apple TV you need to enter those keys that are displayed by Apple TV. You do this via VNC.

    Hi Monty,
Sorry to say it, but this is normal for Apple TVs. I've owned a TV2 and a TV3, and neither lasted for an entire year. They are quite fragile and of low quality, and as you can see here, quite fussy even when they work. The wi-fi receiver on these are cheap and unreliable.
Consider the $99 an annual rental fee. They rarely work for a whole year, so if you are going to use the platform, you will have to replace them constantly.
Also, when one dies under warranty, never, never send it to Apple for repair. Go to the Apple Store for replacement. I sent my ATV3 in for warranty repair using a box sent to me by Apple, and although FedEx tracking showed it was accepted by Apple, it was never seen again. Apple won't replace it or even return my calls.
