WRT 610N Storage

After numerous goes of trial and error, I finally managed to get an external HD working with the router - please don't ask me how I finally got it to work as I'm not sure how I did it - really Linksys, why is this so difficult??
Now I have a really head scratcher - I've created a shared folder, assigned the admin group to the folder, created a user for myself (part of the admin group) and connect to the hard drive. I click and drag a video file and it copies fine. If I try to click and drag more than one file at a time - no go - access denied. This is the same user.
So I start over - instead of clicking and dragging more than one file at a time, I go to moving over 1 file at a time. This works fine for the first few files - then, no go - access denied.
Here's the error I get - "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."
Really? I have read/write access to the HD and I'm the owner of the file - so what am I missing?
Really Linksys, why is this so difficult??
Any assistance/guidance is appreciated.

Maybe the Firmware on your router is corrupted...You should download and upgrade the firmware...You can download the firmware from here , make sure that you have disconnected your hard drive when you upgrade the firmware...After the upgrade reset your router and re-configure it...Once you have the computer up and running using the router, connect your hard drvie to the router and you can create an account and give permissions to that account...and you need to map the drive on your computer. On your computer - Search for a computer on network - enter the computer name "192.168.1.1" you'll get a folder for your drive and you'll need to enter the username and password for your drive to access it. Once you get the contents of drive - go to tools and select Map network drive. Now you should be able to find one drive under my computer and you can access it like your local drive...

E3200 with WRT-610N

Recently purchased an e3200 Router to replace my WRT-610N, for home use. I would now like to use my WRT610N as the upstairs Access Point and/or Bridge. I have Cat6 cabling between both units. I have a mixed network of Win XP and Win 7.
I have read nearly all I could find on this topic. I've also tried all of the solutions that were put out there, no success.
What I am attempting to do:
1. Have each computer on the network see and communicate with the other. I have tried the Lan/Lan connectivity, no luck with all of the computers, ping works with some and not others.
2. Have the two USB External drives, one on each router, accessible from any computer. Currently one or the other will give me a message that says +The attached USB Device is not supported. It seems like I can get one but not both operational.
Am I asking too much from these routers? I do appreciate any responses, ideas,or direction with this setup.....Thanks.

Thanks for the link. I have seen your link and many others with the same directions. I've used the Lan to Lan connection exclusively. I have followed everything as written however am unable to get the computers to see each other, even though I have the second router set on an unused IP address. I've made sure that the second router had DHCP Server disabled in addition to NAT disabled, still no results. I can occasionally ping the first router, depending on the configuration. I've done a clean reset on the second router several times before doing the setup, still no help.
Also one of my main issues is whether ot not I can have two separate Storage devices on the same "broadcast" domain. I'm wondering since the second router is acting like a bridge, if that has anything to do with the "storage devices" ???

WRT-610N Shopping but skeptical about Linksys products

Shopping for a draft-n, simultaneous dual-band router with USB or Firewire storage link and excellent security features. It must have gigabit LAN ports, a solid firewall, WPA2, 5GHz and 2.4Ghz that operate simultaneously, MAC address filtering, etc ...Like the WRT 610N.
As far as features, the WRT 610N keeps coming up time and again. However, the reviews and numerous forum posts indicate a product that has a number of flaws. These reviews and forum posts have thus far kept me from pulling the trigger on the 610.
Has Linksys fixed the reported problems with this unit? Is there another alternative to this router that has these features? Another concern is the throughput. I've used Linksys products before and have never experienced problems like the ones I've seen described about the WRT 610N.
Any insight would be appreciated as I would like to buy a router immediately. Thanks in advance.

WRT610N Router is a one of the good N-Series Router...It will not give you any problem if setup in a proper way...
The features like Dual Band(2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) , firewall, WPA2, MAC address filtering also present in the other N-Series Router like....WRT110,WRT160N,WRT320N....etc

WRT-610n cannot detect harddisk, and no answer from Linksys

I have now had 4 chat sessions with Linksys support. Two times they have ended with a promise that they would get back within respectively 24h and 1h. But they do not.
It is clear that they know about the wrt-610n not being able to detect a lot of harddisk, with many firmware versions, among those the newest two firmware versions 1.00.00.02.10 and 1.00.00.03.15. To get the harddisk detected you have to move back to 1.00.00.B18 to get it detected, but that firmware on the other hand had serious instability issues with the Wireless part.
It is shocking that support pretend to want to help, but when they do not have the solution they simply dump the customer, with a false promise to get back.
It would be so much better customer service if they said that they know about the problem, are working on it, and when they expect a solution.
I feel treated extremely bad, cheated out of my money for a product that they should recall in its current firmware condition. From the many posts in this forum I can see that many customers seem to be in the same situation.
Linksys, one last attempt, will you give me and the other good people in this forum an answer?

The firmware I use right now is version 2.00.00.05, which I have found in this thread:

2.00.00.05 can detect my harddisk, and has perfect WiFi stability, and FTP works.
However the Media Server does not work. I have tested that Windows Vista PC's, that could see each other as Media Servers, could not discover the Media Server on the router.
Theres is also an issue deleting files on the disk, from a Vista SP2 PC. If you try to delete a folder that is not empty. Then the directory becomes invisible, but is still there, and then you have to remove and reconnect the drive, or reboot the router. When I tested from a XP SP3 this did not happen. I use NTFS on the drive.
I do not know for sure that it is actually intended for a router with v1 hardware. They might be working on a v2, that this firmware might be intended for. But it works (almost).
So, I hope that time will bring us functionality even better that 2.00.00.05, but Linksys, it would be nice to know what you are working on.

WRT-610N - Slow LAN Speeds

Is anybody else experiencing slow data transfer speeds via the linksys wrt-610n ethernet ports? I stream HD video from my pc to a seagate theater+ media hub that is connected to my television. I had a D-Link router that had 10/100 ethernet ports but recently upgraded to the wrt-610n because of it's gigabit ports and the fact that it had dual band capabilities (i have the dual band gamer adapter for another media hub one floor up).
anyway, when i had the D-Link hooked up, I was able to stream HD video perfectly via a wired network connection. both audio and video were perfect. since i hooked up the linksys, i now get perfect video for 30 minutes or so and then it starts to get choppy. after about 45 - 50 minutes it's so choppy it's almost unwatchable.
since the only thing that's changed is the router, i'm assuming that's the culprit. does that make any sense to anybody else? i can't believe it, simply because the ethernet ports on this router are "faster" than the last one ... anyways ... any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was aware that the NIC in the seagate wasn't a gigabit card. My issue is that the linksys router, for some reason, isn't transferring as fast as my older D-Link 10/100 router. It seems like there is something wrong when two wired devices try to transfer data from one to the other.

WRT-610N and my VOIP adapter

So I've got my WRT-610n hooked up, replacing my WRT-54g, and so far it's working fine, with the one exception that my VOIP adapter doesn't work? If I unplug the router and the cable modem and re-plug them in, it works great, for about 5 minutes, then it doesn't recognize the phone anymore. I'm pretty sure it's not the VOIP adapter, although the power and internet lights are both lit on it. (voip is Linksys spa2102)

It should ideally work, did you check the firmware on your router as it could a firmware problem...You should have Ver.1.00.02.10 Firmware, if not Download Firmware 7.27 MB, and Upgrade your router...See if this helps...Make sure you reset and re-configure your router after the Upgrade...

WRT 610N not stable

I have two WRT 610N hooked up to 2 Sony Blu Ray N460 players. Use the wireless for streaming, works most of the time but then out of nowhere while watching a movie the network connection will be dropped. It is the same on both units, sometimes they connect and somtimes there is no connection. I'm not sure what might be interfering? Sometimes it comes right back when hitting retry and sometimes I have to reset the WRT 610N and wait and reconnect. Its a little annoying! Any suggestions?
We have the WRT 54G2 V1 hooked up the the destop computer and cable modem. Our laptop connects quickly and never drops the connection, the xbox is connected and never seems to drop, and all our i-pods connect with no problem. Help please!

We are connected through optimum online. I have one 610 connected upstairs and the other connected in our downstairs family room, both to a sony blu-ray dvd player to stream netflix and amazon on demand etc....
They are connected to the blu-ray with ethernet cable. The WRT54G2 is connected through ethernet cable to our desktop and cable modem in the downstairs living room. The picture is great and usually we get to watch what we want but then all of a sudden the connection will be dropped and sometimes I have to reset the wireless bridge, sometimes it comes right back up. These are refurbished models, I'm not sure if this is a problem but didn't think both would have the same problem.

WRT 610N USB file sharing

I am trying to use the USB option for the WRT 610N. The computer with linksys advisor and the one that contols the router is running WXP SP3. I try using linksys websites instructions, but when I enter the address 192.168.1.1, I don't see any subdirectories to select. I am loged in under linksys_media 5 Ghz, the USB drive is not connected to the router, does anyone know what isgoing on? I also have another computer with WVista SP1, but when I try to select the WRT610n it asks me to login and the login fails, my other two computers with xp never ask for a login, how do I get around the login thing?

My WRT610N is also not playing nice with both my Macs & Windows computers.
I managed to set up disk sharing the first time, but I could not connect to the Internet. After calling tech support, I can now connect to the Internet (after doing a reset on the router: Holding the hard reset button down with a paperclip for 1 min, and then disconnecting the power from the router for 10 secs), but hard disk sharing no longer works.
I have set up shares, but I do not see the server name in Finder. Also, I cannot access the server through a web browser (i.e. by typing in 192.168.1.1).
Reading the replies on some discussion threads, it seems to me that this function in the router is unreliable at best. Does anyone have a solution for this?

Simultaneous operation on WRT 610N

Ok so I just got a WRT 610N today and for the life of me I just can't figure out how to access both the 2.4Ghz and the 5GHz bands from my Dell XPS Studio 13 laptop or is that a no no. Also how do I go about sharing files between my laptop and PC which is wired to the router? Thanks for any advice.

Dual bands mean if two systems are using it one on 2.4 and the other on 5.0 it doens't slow down one another

WRT 610N and media server

On all PC's (4 Windows 7 Ultimate),XBox and PS3 is shows the media server but it says there is no media ! I have an external 40GB HDD connected to the USB port om the router and can connect to the drive. I have the latest firmware installed on the router, where am i going wrong ?

When you go to the storage tab @ 192.168.1.1 (aka advanced settings) is UPnP Media server enabled and have you specified a folder for it to scan?
By the way, what file types are stored on it?

WRT 610N 5GHz SSID Name Changed!

I was just checking my setup via the web-based config page and noticed the name of the 5 GHz band had been changed - I am the only one who edits the configuration.
This makes me wonder about a situation a few weeks ago. I manage an open wireless network in a public setting. A patron came in with a newer laptop and could not connect to our wireless network. The laptop asked for the access point's Serial Number before we could go any further with accessing the free, unsecured/open wireless network that no one else seems to have trouble connecting to. Once I put in the number I was able to save our network as a profile on his computer. I wonder if doing this somehow accessed my configuration and automatically changed it? I have it set up so that only certain wired computers can change the configuration, but that I can access it from a wireless/DHCP to change. I did NOT log in, though, I just entered the number and it worked.
I thought leaving the network unsecured would avoid any issues like this. Are some laptops set up to require a log in/or the Access point's Serial Number? Is there some way around this?

Difficult to tell without knowing the exact SSID before and after.
You should have a look at WPS and how that works. The "serial number" suggests that this laptop tried to use WPS or similar to autoconfigure it's network connection to the WRT and I guess that way the router may have set the SSID to the default SSID for WPS configuration.

Wrt 610n and 6.0 phone interference

I just hooked up the 610n router and my old uniden phone (2,4 Ghz) stopped working. It will dial a number but it will never connect to the other end. It has alot of static and dead air. I purchased the Panasonic 6.0 KX-TG7432 and I stil am having the same problem. What can I do to fix this problem? Thanks.

Well you can upgrade the firmware of the Router and check whether that make a difference for the Steps to Upgrade the firmware of the Router.
Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful" After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router..
Configure the Router with these wireless settings.
5GHz Wireless Settings :
Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network.
Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to159 and Standard Channel to 161-5.805GHz...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select AES...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
For 2.4Ghz Wireless Settings.
- Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
Check after this how does the phone work...

WRT 610N and 2TB Drive

I currently have a buffalo 1 tb drive working with my wrt 610. Bought a 2tb Hitachi drive but cannot seem to get it to work with the router. Any ideas.... Can the wrt 610 hook up with 2 tb dirves

WRT610N router can support upto 1.5TB. I doubt that WRT610N Router will not support 2TB drive.

WRT 610n: HD attached...I must be missing something.

When I disconnect my computer from the router via ethernet cable and connect via wireless my computer sees and can utilize the Maxtor One Touch II I have connected via USB to my 610n router. When I reconnect to the router using the cable my system no longer sees the Maxtor.
What am I missing here?

Every computer connected wirelessly can use the Drive. Only when connected via ethernet cable is the Drive not seen.
I've repowered everything...router, computer, HarrDrive...Reninatalled Windows, Upgraded Firmware, Bought new cables.
I'm going to reformat HB, powercycle everything and try again......this is driving me insane not being abale to "understand" what's wrong.

WRT 610N and DHCP Address table

I have a wired PC, network printer and several wireless clients attached to my WRT610N. When I boot the wired PC(Vista), it no longers display in the DHCP client table. All other clients display. Also, I loose connection to my Airport Express. I do get an IP and the Internet is live. The only way to get back on the client table and see the Airport Express is to run ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew. Running the latest firmware. Any ideas?

I would suggest you to reset and re-configure your wireless router...Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Also make sure that your computer is set to obtain IP automatically, disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer before trying to access the setup page...Now re-configure your router...See if this resolves your concern...
