WRT110 drops download speed if I use ESET NOD32 Antivirus

My PC: Pentium4, Windows XP SP3 Home Edition.
D-Link dsl modem, Linksys router WRT110
DSL download speed 15 Megabits/sec.
WLAN turned off.
One PC connected to the router.
Without the router and with NOD32 Antivirus installed on my PC:
Download speed is 15 Megabits/sec.
With the router and with NOD32 installed on my PC:
Download speed drops down to 2 Megabits/sec.
If I uninstall NOD32, everything is OK,
the download speed is 15 Megabits/sec again
(with the router).
What should I do?

I have been sent form here

to this forum,
so I copy here what I have written there.
My PC: Pentium4, Windows XP SP3 Home Edition.
D-Link dsl modem, Linksys router WRT110
DSL download speed 15 Megabits/sec.
WLAN turned off.
One PC connected to the router.

With the router and with NOD32 installed on my PC:
Download speed drops down to 2 Megabits/sec.
If I uninstall NOD32, everything is OK,
the download speed is 15 Megabits/sec again
(with or without the router).
What should I do?
I connected only one PC to the router with an ethernet cable
and turned off the wireless connection during the tests.
The tests were performed several times. But I got the same results.

Upload speed is OK in all the four cases.
I've tested my uTorrent application.
It works well. Its download speed is 1.4 MB/s = 11.2 Megabits/sec
Something between my browsers (FF3.5.7 or IE8) and NOD32
or something with the router?
JDownloader application
If I watch it in full view
download speed drops to
600 KB/s = 4.8 Megabits/sec
If I put down JDownloader to the system tray
download speed jumps to
1.8 MB/s = 14.4 Megabits/sec
If I use my other PC with Core2Duo CPU and with Windows 7,
everything works well. Download speed is 15 Megabits/sec.

  • Wireless Router Dropping download speeds

    I have a WRT310N router. Ever since upgrading to Snow Leopard, my wireless download speeds decrease the further I get away from the machine. While my signal indicator is full strength, my speed drops from 16mbps download to just around 1-2mbps. I've upgraded to the latest firmware, turned off any potentially conflicting wireless devices (baby monitor, Wii, etc) and nothing seems to effect. Interestingly, my upload speeds remain uneffected.
    Any ideas?

    Did you reset the router after upgrading the router's firmware..If not then,reset the router and reconfigure it from the scratch.

  • Upload/Download speed of files using Java

    Hey All,
    I have created a signed Java applet which, among various other things, allows uploading and downloading of files between the server and client. Both Upload and Download is handled through HTTP. For Upload I create a multi-part POST request to transfer the data to a script on the server which intercepts it. For download I craft a URL to http://myserver.com/filedirectory/file.extension. From that I form a HttpURLConnection and read from the stream to the file system of the client. This applet is only run on an internal network, which currently has 100mbit connection. However, I am noticing upload/download speeds of less than 1MB/s (I believe 100mbit = 12MB/s approx). I am currently using a buffer size of 8kb.
    Can anyone think of any ways to increase download speed? Would it help to increase the buffer size, knowing we will always be on a closed network? Here Is my upload code, and my download is similar but in the opposite direction.
    int bytesRead = 0;
    byte b[] = new byte[BUFFER_SIZE];
    BufferedInputStream bufin =  new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(f));
    while ((bytesRead = bufin.read(b)) != -1)  {
            * write output
         out.write(b, 0, bytesRead);
         out.flush();
    out.close();
    bufin.close();I have not included the rest of the code which creates the POST request because the upload is otherwise working perfectly despite the speed, and I have confined the bottleneck to this part using debug output.
    Thanks much

    Will removing the flush after every loop somehow decrease accuracy?No.
    Ideally, files should be the same exact size on the server as the client after upload has finished.Deferring the flush() can't change that. It just lets you write in larger chunks, which is always good.
    Which one is the socket receive buffer?The buffer whose size is set by Socket.setReceiveBufferSize().
    Currently the size of BUFFER_SIZE in the example above is set to 8k.That's the application buffer. Good size.

  • ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Mac ( CRAP )

    Hey I don't know about any of you, but stay away from this junk. I had the biggest nightmare and I am still working with both Data Rescue, Mac Disc Utility and Drive Genius 2 all in the hopes of being able to get my computer back to normal.
    I ran the basic quick virus scan offered. It locked up my computer. I had to force restart it, clear my PRAM and thereafter not be able to even get back into that boot drive. So I had to use another one of my boots to help clean up the files at which point it still wasn't working.
    I wasted a great chunk of my evening and I usually never have problems with Apple. Anybody else have issues with the "Subject" line product I have mentioned?

    And what works on Windows doesn't seem to carry over very well, ie, even Intego has trouble and causes a performance hit.
    With Norton, maybe the best advice is to check out their own Community Forum, keep it away from normal production or system for daily use, and set it up on a TEST CLONE. If OS X could be test run in a VM that would be dandy, but can't, where all changes are discarded when shutdown.
    ESET NOD32 forum any help?
    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15
    Snow Leopard compatible? I noticed OP said they used Drive Genius 2, and I am pretty sure you need to upgrade to DG3 to be safe, same as every OS update where Disk Warrior and TechTool Pro had to be updated. (There is Data Rescue 3 as well.)
    People often say that they don't see the need for uninstallers and that is a PLUS over Windows. I kind of like having a central location and means to uninstall scripts trigger from a Programs control panel.
    Another way to "uninstall" is to rollback to prior to point in time. There aren't any such "Sandbox" tools though where you can setup and then test and when done, tell the system to undo everything.

  • FTP download speed issue

    Hi,
    This problem only started occurring from yesterday, but I'm getting very poor FTP download speeds.
    I use a dedicated server to store my work files then download at home but I'm finding it impossible now.
    Speeds no higher than 150kb/s even though I have 80mb unlimited.
    If I download any test files over HTTP I get full speed, its just an FTP issue (port 54630)
    I've rebooted router / reconnected etc... With no luck
    Can anyone help?
    Much appreciated

    Are you sure you are not getting confused with Mbps  (Megabits per second) and MBs (Megabytes per second)?
    Megabytes are Megabits divided by eight.
    So a download speed of 17Mbs equates to an actual data transfer rate of 2.125MBs (Megabytes), which is what you are getting.
    Download managers usually use megabytes and not megabits, so there is nothing wrong with your connection.
    There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • Observed download speed vs speed checkers

    Hello everyone,
    I am a new BT Unlimited Broadband customer, though I am not new to broadband nor the technical side of the internet. I have been using a BT Home Hub 4 for around a month now without disconnection problems.
    We live in a new build area and thus Infinity is not available to us at the moment. Our estimated (by BT) and reported (by various speed checkers, including BT's own two) download speed is 7 - 10Mbps, usually around 8. The Home Hub reports 10.x Mbps for download.
    In contrast, our observed download speed (as tested using various large sample files across several protocols) is actually consistently 1Mbps.
    I'd like to draw on the collective wisdom of forum contributors and ask for advice on the following question:
    Can you think of any practical reasons, assuming ideal conditions on my end, why our actual download speed would be so much less than the reported download speed?
    Thanks

    This may help with your calculations
    Internet speed = Download speed

    When i use my macbook pro to download a file i hit very slow download speeds (50 kb/s tops), compared to fast download speeds in vista using boot camp (300 kb/s tops) and the same when i use my brothers PC.
    Anyone know how i can fix this or why it might be happening?
    thanks

    Common strategies:
    * Use ethernet instead of wireless.
    * Get a better/upgraded ISP.
    * Get a better/upgraded router.
    * Get a newer mac.

  • ITunes ESET Nod32 Virus Popup

    Hello,
    I did a search for a few things in the iTunes store, and I immediately get a trojan warning from ESET Nod32 about it.  I formatted my computer, and tried it again, but I got the popup again.
    JS/TrojanDownloader.Iframe.NKF trojan
    I tried it on all my other computers as well and they all do the same thing.  Is this a false positive?
    I was looking for Indiana University from iTunes U so I searched for Bloomington and get this everytime.

    '''No''', that ABP support thread says:
    <pre><nowiki> "Apparently ESET (NOD32 Antivirus, ESET Smart Security) recently released an update to their virus definition database (db 6799) that wrongfully detects the malware JS/Redirector.B in Adblock Plus installations using the EasyList filter subscription.
    ESET has already confirmed and fixed this false positive, so all you need to do to fix the problem is to ignore the warning and update your virus signature database (db version 6800 contains the fix)." </nowiki></pre>
    It says to re-subscribe '''''if''''' ESET has trashed your ABP filter rules file.

  • Loss of download speed using airport extreme and express.

    I have Wifi using an Airport extreme base station and an airport express extender.  However, the download speed drops from 21 Mbps to 8 Mbps. Any suggestions to boost the express other than an ethernet connection which would be difficult.

    Temporarily, power down the AirPort Express and take speed measurement at that exact location.
    Whatever that is.....likely in the 8-10 Mpbs range......is what the Express will try to "extend".
    In other words, the Express can only extend the bandwidth or speed that it receives. It cannot make the connection that it receives go any faster. In that regard, the term "repeater" is probably a more accurate description of what the Express is trying to accomplish.
    If you want the Express to extend faster speeds, then it must be located closer to the AirPort Extreme. In addition, anything that you can do to reduce any obstructions in the signal path between the AirPorts will help.
    Ideally, you want a line-of-sight relationship between the AirPorts to help reduce the amount of speed loss that occurs with any wireless connection.

  • Opening second tab, no address causes download speed to drop from 160 kbs to less than 5 kbs and sits there doing nothing, does not happen with IE, why is this

    after firefox updated from 27 to 28, when i download a file, play music, watch a video, or run a speed test, normal speed is about 160 kb/s (dsl connection 1.3 Mb/s) - just opening another blank tab (not any address) or try to open another page like google search page, download speed drops to less than 5 kb/s - downloading stops, and second page does not open, why is this happening, it does not happen with internet explorer and the version of IE i have is out of date,
    history/cookies all clear automatically when close, i have disabled all add on, run malware, adware searches - show no problem, norton antivirus is up to date, i have spent hours on phone with ATT isp and connection is showing no problem - if i run a speed test it shows good, if i try to run a speed test and open second tab - speed fails and speed test will not even finish, ATT suggested I try the same thing in IE and there is no problem - so it appears to be an issue with Firefox 28

    What is the CPU load when this slowdown happens?
    Are you using a specific driver in Windows to mange the internet connection that might not get enough processor time to run properly?
    It is also possible that other (security) isn't able to do its work and takes additional CPU time.
    Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
    *http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-start-windows-in-safe-mode/
    You can try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem if starting Firefox in Safe Mode didn't help.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
    If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

  • Airport WEP Security drops my download speed

    I have two routers: one from my ISP (which issues my IP addresses) and an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station (which serves as a bridge). My DSL speed is 5MB, which I've been getting with both routers unsecured. I secured the ISP router and nothing changes as far as my speed is concerned, but when I secure the AEBS, my download speed drops to 3MB, a significant drop. Any suggestions how to correct this?

    1 don't use WEP, it's crackable in 30 seconds.
    2 don't use two routers unless you have to
    3 if you must use two routers, set them to use different networks
    4 which router did your ISP provide?

  • Slow download speeds and/or dropped internet connectivity

    Recently, my fios internet connection will be intermittently slow or simply drop altogether on all my devices. The verizon speed test also shows that my download speeds are less than 1mb/sec whereas upload speeds are up to 15 mb/s. My service plan is 25/25. I have been using the service with no issues for the past 4 months. This seems to have come up out of the blue in the past few days. Resetting the router has no effect.   Is anyone else experiencing this problem? This is in Philadelphia.  I tried to call support, but had to give up after being on hold for 55 minutes. Going to try again tomorrow.

    Sorry I haven't been able to update with more info sooner.  I am conncted with wifi. The location of my laptop with respect to the router has not changed at any time during the duration of these issues. Since monday when I originally posted, the following happened: On Tuesday the problem appeared to have been resolved as I was getting 29.5 down and 20 up at 7:00 EST. I tested again at 10:30 EST and was getting 17 down and 19 up so everything seemed good. Last night, however, the issue popped up again. I was not able to test until about 10:30 but at that time I was once again consistently getting less than 1 mb down and 5-10 up. Ironically, the download speeds were so poor I was not even able to log in to these forums to post without the webpage timing out. Tonight, I was having issues earlier (download speeds ~1-2 mb) but not I am once again getting ~30 down based on the verizon speedtest. I have not tried changing the channel of my wireless, could the interference from another wifi cause issues like this? IT is set to automatic right now though.

  • Wireless downloading speeds dropped

    Hi,
    Really unsure about tech stuff but on 24/09/2014 had major issues with my wireless speed dropping hugely. The night before was able to stream TV, play games and many other activitives at the same time. The following morning found that every device I own on the property had close to 0 connection speeds though signal strength was good. Did the BT wholesale speed check found my wireless download speed was less then 1 on other occasions less than 0.1. When the ethernet was connected to the router speeds were over 37mbps so its clearly my wireless. Did the inssider check and my link score is 71, Im on channel 6 atm. Not sure if anyone has had similar issues and resolved them, BT told me the fault was on my property but seems a bit flippant as the change was so dramatic and occurred overnight. Any help would be grateful.,

  • Big drop in download speeds

    Hi and help me please.
    Two days ago the broadband became so slow is was impossible to even load an Internet page.
    I rang the bt help desk yesterday and after replacing an adsl filter and moving the hub to the main phone line in I seemed to have my usual connection back.
    I have come to use the Internet again today and the speeds have dropped massively again. And is becoming very intermittent with its speeds mostly being under .5mb/s.
    ranging from .019 to 17.8mb/s download speeds, the upload speeds have been fairly constant at 0.8 - 0.95mb/s
