WRT110 PROBLEMS

Hi Guys!
I have a RangePlus Wireless-G router (WRT110) and I was reading one one of these forums that if the firmware is 1.0.04 then I need to return it. (?)
I've been having a lot of problems with it, such as it takes it about 10 minutes to actually connect with our computers. My boyfriend has a Dell computer and it always says "connected to" but the webpages still don't load. Also, whenever we use our phone the wireless gets cut out so we can never use both our home phone and the internet at the same time.
If anyone has any suggestions or comments please HELP!  I've had this router for 2 months now so I can't return it. We thought it was because of our cable/internet company but they kept telling us it was our router.

You should now upgrade your router to Ver.1.0.05 (Buid 03)
Download Firmware 2.77 MB...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
After configuring the router you should adjust it's Wireless Settings.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab
-Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
- Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bits.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • WRT110 WIFI password problem

    Hi Everyone,
I've got a very strange problem.  First, I indicated WPA under Wireless Security section and typed in my passphrase.  However when connecting to my wireless network name my passphrase never worked.  Second, I completely disabled security and tried to simply connect without any passphrase, but I was still being asked for a passphrase nonetheless.  I checked and double-checked and saved settings making sure security was disabled, but I was still being asked for a passphrase when choosing my wireless network!
I could probably restore my WRT110 to factory settings, however I don't want to loose other configurations like certain open ports and IP addresses I opened up for firewall.
Is there a way for me to resolve my WiFI password problem without restoring to factory default?  I just need to figure out how to make the WiFi passpharse work.  Here's what I have there:
    Security Mode: WPA Personal
    Encryption: TKIP
    Passphrase: 0sunspot0
    Key Renewal: 3600 seconds
However, when I pick my wireless network and try to connect to it by typing in 0sunspot0, I get authentication failure!
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Victor.

  • WRT110 router - FTP problem - Timeouts on large files

When I upload files via FTP and if the transfer of a file takes more then 3 minutes,
then my FTP programs doesn't jump to the next file to upload when the previous one has been just finished.
The problem occurs only if I connect to the internet behind the wrt110 router.
I have tried FileZilla, FTPRush and FlashFXP FTP softwares to upload via FTP.
At FileZilla sending keep-alives doesn't help,
only it works at FlashFXP, but I have a trial version.
At FIleZilla's site I can read this:
    http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Network_Configuration#Timeouts_on_large_files
    Timeouts on large files
If you can transfer small files without any issues,
but transfers of larger files end with a timeout,
a broken router and/or firewall exists
between the client and the server and is causing a problem.
    As mentioned above,
    FTP uses two TCP connections:
a control connection to submit commands and receive replies,
and a data connection for actual file transfers.
It is the nature of FTP that during a transfer the control connection stays completely idle.
The TCP specifications do not set a limit on the amount of time a connection can stay idle.
Unless explicitly closed, a connection is assumed to remain alive indefinitely.
However, many routers and firewalls automatically close idle connections after a certain period of time.
Worse, they often don't notify the user, but just silently drop the connection.
For FTP, this means that during a long transfer
the control connection can get dropped because it is detected as idle, but neither client nor server are notified.
So when all data has been transferred, the server assumes the control connection is alive
and it sends the transfer confirmation reply.
Likewise, the client thinks the control connection is alive and it waits for the reply from the server.
But since the control connection got dropped without notification,
the reply never arrives and eventually the connection will timeout.
In an attempt to solve this problem,
the TCP specifications include a way to send keep-alive packets on otherwise idle TCP connections,
to tell all involved parties that the connection is still alive and needed.
However, the TCP specifications also make it very clear that these keep-alive packets should not be sent more often than once every two hours. Therefore, with added tolerance for network latency, connections can stay idle for up to 2 hours and 4 minutes.
However, many routers and firewalls drop connections that have been idle for less than 2 hours and 4 minutes. This violates the TCP specifications (RFC 5382 makes this especially clear). In other words, all routers and firewalls that are dropping idle connections too early cannot be used for long FTP transfers. Unfortunately manufacturers of consumer-grade router and firewall vendors do not care about specifications ... all they care about is getting your money (and only deliver barely working lowest quality junk).
To solve this problem, you need to uninstall affected firewalls and replace faulty routers with better-quality ones.

  • No Problem hooking up Vista laptop with WRT110 Wireless Router but can not get XP laptop to see it

I purchased a WRT110 Linksys wireless router this afternoon and had no problem configuring it for my wired desktp and my wireless Vista laptop, but my Acer XP wireless laptop will not even see the network.  I have tried WEP, WAP, and no security, but I can see the neighbors routers but I can not see mine.  My XP laptop is an Acer 3680-2574 with a  Broadcom 802.11g network adapter.

Is the SSID enabled on the router ?
What is the firmware on the router ?

  • WRT110 - Strange Problem

Okay, I am hoping there are some ideas out there. I have a strange situation at a friends house.
    2 Laptops -
    Toshiba - Win 7 x64 - Home Edition - IP address 192.168.1.104
    PowerBook G4 MAC OS 10.4.11 - IP Address 192.168.1.101
    WRT110 Router
If the Toshiba is turned on it will connect to the internet and can access the admin page at 192.168.1.1. If you turn on the Mac then no one can access the internet or even the router page.
If I turn off the Toshiba and turn on the Mac - that Mac access the internet with no problems.
Basically it is only letting 1 computer access the router at a time.
Toshiba turned off Mac is okay. Turn off Mac and turn on Toshiba and Toshiba can access perfectly.
Turn them both on and no one can access. Neither computer can reach 192.168.1.1 or ping out to the net.
What am I missing that is preventing these computers from working together?
I even verified that the mac address on the NICS were not the same. IP address is different on both.
I am stumped. Anyone have any thoughts?

On the Win 7 computer, disable IPv6 under the LAN properites for all adapters (wired and wireless), disable UPnP in the router.  Reboot and try again.

  • WRT110 IP Problem!!

Ok so i just  bought a new WRT110 today to replace my old WRT54G router that had just died out. I'm using Windows Vista on my laptop and my ISP is Comcast. For some reason when the router is plugged into the modem it doesnt automatically pick up the IP address why is that? My old WRT54G automatically picked up the IP address. Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem?

Might be possible that the router is not resetted properly ... so reset it for few minutes .....
Once resetted ... connect back the router to the Internet Port & reconfigure the router ....
    Try this settings ....
Access the setup page of the router by launching an
Browser and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as "admin" (Without quotes)
    click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings
    button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
    - Click on enable
Click Clone & click save settings
Check WAN Ip on Status page of router ....
If getting Valid Ip .... try going online
If not ... power cycle for 4-5 minutes & then again check the WAN Ip address .....

  • WRT110 setup problem

Hi. Firstly, let me say that if this has been asked a lot then I'm sorry for taking up space and your time, but I searched through the first few pages of threads on the WRT110 and didn't see an answer to my problem.
The background. I decided to upgrade from my old G router to a newer and hopefully faster n router.  I purchased the router refurbished online and ran the setup with my computer running Windows XP.  At the end everything seemed fine as the computer says that it is connected both wirelessly and when the ethernet is connected to the router through the internal connection (internet is fine when the computer is connected to the modem). .  When I tried going online, however, it won't load webpages even though it claims to be connected to the internet.  I've looked at other setup stuff, and found the one website that would load when connected to the router (The192.168.1.1 site) but frankly I'm not very good with computers and couldn't figure out what I needed to do to fix the problem. Also, I've tried restarting the computer and router but that didn't fix the problem, nor did re-running the initial setup using WEP security instead of the default security.  Does anyone have a solution? I've been searching and trying to make it work for a few hours without much success. Thanks in advance, and if you need more information don't hesitate to ask (hopefully I can find it for you).

  • Problem with Linksys Router Model WRT110 Not Assigning IPs With DHCP?

    Hello,
I recently purchased this router (WRT110) to take the place of my old Belkin that was continually dropping connections (which was a real pain when trying to download stuff off the Internet).
However, I cannot get this router to assign IPs to wired or wireless computers. I spent around 2 hours talking to Linksys support technicians (two total) before they finally told me the router was defective.
So, I went back to the store and got an exchange. But, it's the same story with this router, the connections can't get past the "acquiring network address" stage in the connection process.
I would like to think that this has more to do with my ISP than the router, but if I set up a static IP on the wired computer I can connect to the Internet and the router through its default gateway. Setting up a static IP on the wireless computer doesn't seem to work, however. If the ISP was a problem, wouldn't the router not detect the Internet connection at all?
DHCP is definitely enabled on the router also.
My ISP is a small town owned company. I have a wireless broadband connection, which works similarly to satellite, only the connection is broadcast via a tower and is received with an outside antenna.
I still need to contact them about this, but I figured it could hurt to ask here and see some of your suggestions.
    Thank you!
    ~RJG

UPDATE: I contacted my ISP today and the technician I spoke with said he didn't know of any problems any routers would have with their wireless broadband. I tend to agree with him, as I've configured two routers previously using my connection and I've never had any difficulty until now. He suggested changing the ethernet cable and releasing/renewing my IP address, both of which I did but I continued to have the same issues.
But, after doing some more research I found some settings that actually allowed my wireless computer to connect. There was a post in these forums referring to modifying the MTU, changing it from Auto to Manual and changing the value to 1458 actually seemed to work, as well as strengthening the connection by changing the beacon interval. Anyway, I can connect wirelessly now.
Also, I connected my Linux computer (Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron) to the router and was able to connect instantly, no problems whatsoever. So, out of my three computers, two are connecting, but my wired Windows computer is still having issues. However, if I set a static IP for that computer, I can connect fine.
I'm thinking maybe there is something wrong with the NIC card in that computer, but how would one test something like that?
It doesn't make sense to me, I would really appreciate any input. Thank you!

  • New WRT110 having terrible lag problems. Need help

I bought a new WRT110 because my "old" WRT54GS was dead. My old router was only about 4 months old but everybody i talked to said it was the router. When i skip the router and plug my computer directly into the modem my connection is flawless getting 17ms in the /run cmd console menu. But for some reason whenever i run my computer into the router to the modem i get terrible lag. This router is 1 day old. I have no idea what this could be.

Possibly reset the router for few seconds .... once resetted again run the setup CD & see if it works ...

  • WRT110 192.168.1.1 connection problem

For some reason or another, I cannot connect to my router.  Its IP is the default 192.168.1.1.  For maybe the first minute or so after I turn the router on, I CAN connect to it, but then it just drops and I cannot get onto it any more.  What's going on and how do I go about fixing this?

To view the router's web pages:
You do not need an Internet connection. The router's "web pages" are built into the router.
Use Internet Explorer, it usually works.
    JavaScript must be enabled.
Use a computer that is wired to the router.
In the non-working computer, temporarily turn off your software firewall.
Point your browser to 192.168.1.1 , then login to your router. Your user name should be left blank. Your password is "admin" (with no quotes), unless you changed it.
If you are using Zone Alarm, right click on the ZA icon in the system tray (lower right corner of screen) and then click "Shutdown ZoneAlarm", and see if this fixes your problem. If this does not work, try the following with Zone Alarm: Open the ZAISS control center, go to Privacy, then temporarily turn off Ad Blocking and Cookie Control, and see if that fixes your problem.
Some Zone Alarm users have reported that adding 192.168.1.1 to their list of "trusted" addresses fixed the problem. This trick might also work with other firewalls.
If you are using Noton Internet Security with the Add-on Pack, be sure to turn off the Pop-up Blocker, and the Ad blocker. Some users have reported that they needed to uninstall the entire Norton Add-on Pack.
If you cannot get anything at 192.168.1.1 then perhaps this is not your router's address. Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key. Look at the "Default Gateway". Is it 192.168.1.1 ? Point your browser to the "Default Gateway", then login to your router.
If the above fails, disconnect your modem from the router, and try again. If this corrects your problem, then most likely you have a "modem-router" rather than an ordinary modem. Report back with this problem, and also state the make and exact model number of your modem (not the router).
If all of the above fails, power down your entire system, unplug it from the wall, wait one minute, then power up and try again.
If all of the above tips fail, then reset the router to factory defaults: Power down the router and disconnect all wires from it. Wait one minute. Power up the router, allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes), then press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release the button and allow the router to reset and reboot ( 2-3 minutes). Power down router. Wait one minute. Connect one computer, by wire, to a LAN port on the router. Boot up system. It should work.
If you still have trouble, then you need to download and install (or re-install) the latest firmware for your router. After the firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.

  • WRT110 Connection Problem

I just bought a new WRT110 Router. I have a Dell Desktop running Windows XP and a Dell Laptop running Vista. I followed the setup CD and everything worked fine. I can connect to the internet through my desktop. But when I try to connect to my network using my laptop, it says, "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network." I know it's probably a simple solution, but I have no clue what to do. Thank you for your help.

    log in the router
change the SSID and the wireless security to custom defined
    on the Vista laptop
go to network & sharing center in that go to manage wireless network

  • Linksys WRT110 firmware problem

I have been trying to update the firmware on this think for ages. I bought the router because I had problems with other brands and heard this was the best brand for gaming. With all the complaints lately I think this sentiment has changed dramatically over the past couple of years. I have had problems with this router turning of UpNp for no reason, so I thought maybe updating the firmware might fix it, but it won't even let me do that...
It just keeps saying please designate path of update even though I picked it a hundred times.

I understand you're having difficulty upgrading your router's firmware. I have encountered the same problem when I was using Firefox to download the firmware. But the upgrade was done successfully using Internet Explorer. Follow this link to learn more about udating the router's firmware.

  • WRT110 Installation Problem

Hi, I recently purchased a WRT110 wireless router.   When I ran the setup CD, it kept disabling my ethernet port then giving me a 311 Error saying that no wired connection was found.  I've re-enabled the port and ran the setup again, only to have the same thing happen multiple times.  I'm at a bit of a loss, if anyone has experienced a similiar issue or has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

My wife has a blackberry phone and she doesn't have problem with internet connecting to the wifi router, i have a pc with windows 7 and connect wireless too and either connect to internet without problems. It's only happen with android. i download terminal app and i ping different web pages and respond by name and by ip but when i go to internet app and try to connect it doesn't bring the page. i don't have firewall and the firewall of the router i disble it but the problem persist.
i factory reset the router and my phone but problem persist. i set static ip and nothing. my cellphone and tablet connect to internet fine in others wifi routers. What else can i do? should i downgraded the firmware to the router? if it is so where can i download a previous version of the firmware and what are the steps to install it?

If the other wireless devices are working fine connected to the router, then it might be that the Android phones and tablet needed to be configured properly. Had you tried to use another web browser on the problem phone and tablet to further isolate the issue? Had you tried to connect the phone and tablet to other wireless network and check if you still have the same issue? Please try to make sure that you are connected to the router’s main wireless network. And please try to delete preferred wireless networks, including your wireless network, on the phone and then try to reconnect.
