WRT110 vs WRT54GS

Would the WRT110 be an improvement over the WRT54GS and does MIMO technology on THIS router work with standard G even though the standard G device does not have MIMO technology?
P.S.  According to Linksys' website this router is listed under "RangePlus" and appears to NOT fall under the category of Wireless N or Wireless G.  Which one is it N or G?
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C1&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1115416936001&...

<cough cough>
Depends on the environment in which the router is used/placed as well.  I would say the WRT54 LESS of a problem because they've been around for so long and the firmware is solid but the WRT110 has a ways to go for reliability.  Many users experience high amounts of drops with the 110.   My old 54 would supply 3 floors of the house with a signal while my 110 has a hard time reaching all rooms of a 1 floor ranch.

How to make my WRT54G see my WRT110 when my WRT54G is a client Bridge?
It does not see any wireless signals in the status
    I am using  DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/10/09) std-nokaid with the WRT54G

You should post this question on the DD-WRT forum since it is their firmware.

  • MacBook Pro and WRT110

Hi, hopefully someone here will be able to help me: I have a MacBook Pro that worked fine with my WRT54G, but I recently needed to upgrade to a WRT110. For some reason my Mac is not working well with the new router wirelessly. It works fine if I am plugged directly in though. Also all of my Windows PCs are working fine wirelessly with the WRT110, even the part of my Mac that runs Windows using Boot Camp has no problems, but for some reason when I am on OS X no luck. I am connected with the router and my airport card is telling me I am connected to the internet, but nothing happens when I open a browser or something like iChat. I also checked and I have an IP address from the router and DNS Servers but for some reason the internet is not coming through. As I work in IT myself I have tried everything I can think of, so hopefully someone here knows the answer or will suggest something I have overlooked. Thank you for your time and help.

I had the same problem and tech support was of no help whatsoever. Recently I came across the solution on one of the mac help forums which finally set things right.
Log onto your wireless router (typically using http://192.168.1.1) and change the settings under Wireless Settings -> Basic Wireless Settings
Change Network mode to :Wireless-G only.
(In case you still have problems, try changing the Standard Channel to either 11-2.46GHz or to 6-2.437GHz)
Now I dont have to stay connected via the wire and the performance is terrific.
The suspected reason was that the default settings of "Mixed" for the Network Mode caused the MacBook pro to try using Wireless-N and that clearly wasn't working well! : )
    Cheers!

  • Upgrade from BEFSR41 to WRT54GS

I just replaced my wired BEFSR41 with a WRT54GS model running both wired & wireless computers.  I've done everything and I have internet access from all computers (3 desktops & 1 laptop) but I can no longer access any computer shared objects (in this case a printer). Anyone have any clues?
Also, I was able on the BEFSR41 to have the router echo back the log to a log viewer running on my desktop, but this too no longer happens. The firmware does not seem to support this.

You need to install/configure your new router(WRT110)...To configure your router follow the link here

  • Wrt110 ddns reporting incorrect ip address

Replaced my dead wrt54g with a wrt110 last night.  Went through normal setup, re-enabled settings to mirror the old setup, including dynamic dns.  wrt110 reported a successful ddns update and diplayed the correct ip address through the linksys admin gui.  However, I logged into my dynamic dns account and found that the ip address reported was 192.168.1.100 instead of my 173.xx.xx.xx address.  Is there a known bug?  I searched the forum and didn't find any related issues.  I'm running on the latest firmware, fwiw.  Any idea how to correct?

When you login to the Router GUI and login to the DDNS tab, under DDNS tab whats the Internet IP address ? Are you getting the same IP address 192.168.1.100 or 173.x.x.x ?

  • New WRT110 having terrible lag problems. Need help

I bought a new WRT110 because my "old" WRT54GS was dead. My old router was only about 4 months old but everybody i talked to said it was the router. When i skip the router and plug my computer directly into the modem my connection is flawless getting 17ms in the /run cmd console menu. But for some reason whenever i run my computer into the router to the modem i get terrible lag. This router is 1 day old. I have no idea what this could be.

Possibly reset the router for few seconds .... once resetted again run the setup CD & see if it works ...

  • WRT54g may be dead.....

So I am thinking my faithful WRT54g has died.....or atleast the ethernet port did. I can connect wirelessly to it, BUT it won't connect to the internet. Regardless of how many times I power down both the modem and router. This started happening a couple of days ago, but normally a power down of the router fixed the issues. That stopped working.....well today. So powered down both router and modem several times to no avail. So I am working off of a spare WRT110 that I had bought thinking it would be better.....it's not. It's horrible with only maybe 5 ft of range. Anywho, I digress. Is there anyway to verify that indeed the ethernet port is dead? It's a completely stock WRT54g, no DDWRT, not even the latest firmware. If I recall correctly it has 1.5??? that may not be right but it won't let me upgrade it either.Tried that a second ago.
Otherwise it looks like I'll be buying a new router tonight.  Wondering if maybe the constant power down/up messed up some sort of configuration or IP between the router and the modem. Not sure.....I am only know enough that I'm dangerous.

another odd development in the story.
Soooo I bought a WRT110 about 6 months back, was a refurb didn't pay much for it, tried it out and it was horrible. Back in the box, and on the shelf with other useless technologies. Anywho I hook it up today just to get some kind of internet. In a weird "yeah this isn't going to work moment" hooked the 2 routers together via standard cat 5 cable that came with my WRT110.....and voila I have internet again using the 54g.
So right now I am connected via the 54g wireless signal, which is hard wired from port 4 on the 54g to port 4 on the 110. Oddly enough it works, BUT it isn't very stable and my iPhone won't connect to the internet from this. Going to try the hard reset as something just isn't adding up here.

  • WRT110 IP Problem!!

Ok so i just  bought a new WRT110 today to replace my old WRT54G router that had just died out. I'm using Windows Vista on my laptop and my ISP is Comcast. For some reason when the router is plugged into the modem it doesnt automatically pick up the IP address why is that? My old WRT54G automatically picked up the IP address. Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem?

Might be possible that the router is not resetted properly ... so reset it for few minutes .....
Once resetted ... connect back the router to the Internet Port & reconfigure the router ....
    Try this settings ....
Access the setup page of the router by launching an
Browser and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as "admin" (Without quotes)
    click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings
    button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
    - Click on enable
Click Clone & click save settings
Check WAN Ip on Status page of router ....
If getting Valid Ip .... try going online
If not ... power cycle for 4-5 minutes & then again check the WAN Ip address .....

  • App QoS vs Port Forwarding in WRT110

    Hello,
What would be better to set in my WRT110 router to make sure my online game gets priority overall: Application QoS or Port Forwarding? I can see the WRT110 has this new feature that I didn't see with my old WRT54GS.
If it is Port Forwarding, which one since there is Single Port and Port Range Forwarding? Now, I must keep the DHCP settings since I'm on laptop and I travel a lot.
    Thanks in advance

If you travel a lot then Single Port Forwarding or Port Range Forwarding are not your options...You need to do Port Triggering...

  • WRT110 vs. WRT54G2 - which one is right for me?

WRT110 is the speedbooster of the old WRT54GS, whereas WRT54G2 is the new WRT54G (no speedbooster). Our current home network exists just to enable all computers to have internet access, we do not do any file sharing between computers. Considering that, is there any reason to go with the speedbooster over the non-speedbooster version? Which one is more stable/reliable of the two (less dropped connections, random slowdowns, etc)?

    castor wrote:
Try this link to enable file sharing on the network ...
Hey, thanks for the help but that is not our issue. We just don't share files from computer to computer, we just use the router to give all computers internet access.

  • WRT110 will not connect to PS3

I can not connect my new WRT110 wireless N router to my PS3. It connects to everything else in my house laptop PC, MAC. I have been working on this all day. I have no idea what to do. I've tried the DNS stuff that other people have said on other forums. I have tried no WPA passkey at all. That didnt work. The problem I keep getting is that it gets the IP but then no internet access. Most errors were DNS I even manually inputted the DNS server address. For me its 192.168.1.1 . Now does that look like a DNS server address. I mean with my previous WRT54G router everything connected fine with the PS3 now I get a newer Wireless N router and nothing happens. I would have thought this router would have connected easier. I mean it does have nicer features but nothing in my house is wi fi easy setup compatible. Any help would be great. My wireless WRT110 is connect to my IMAC via ethernet cable. Then everything else is wireless. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

On your PS3 you can assign a Static IP i.e: 192.168.1.10, Subnet : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1, Preferred DNS : 208.67.222.222, Alternate DNS : 208.67.220.220. Once you assign this to your PS3, after this you can check if you are able to go online on your PS3.

  • My WRT110 Wireless router won't give me a connection to my DSL internet.

I am setting up a home network that includes 2 laptops, 1 DSl modem, 1 wireless (WRT110) router, and 1 printer. The DSl internet is brand new as well and i just got it working as far as for connecting to the internet using a ethernet cord. My next step was to add the wireless router into the mix and allow the laptops to go wireless. I complete the WRT110 wireless router setup wizard and it finishes with it saying i have complete. However, it won't give me the internet signal to where i can connect to the internet (i am still using all 1394 cords and haven't attempted to go wireless yet, figured i should get the connection working before i try to connect wireless). All the lights on the DSL modem are green and its acting like i have a good connection. All the lights on my new router are green (well blue since it is the new kind of router) but still no connection. On a side note, since the wizard was complete i just took a shot in the dark and tried to connect going wireless and both laptops recognize the wireless router and can get a perfect signlal from it. However, when i try and connect to the network it sets there for a long time trying to "aquire network address" then wont connect. I would appreciate any guidance anyone can give me. Thank you

    Thank you Very much!
I just moved into a house where they have a router at one end of the house and I live down stairs at the other end of the house.  I have my own ruoter so I hooked it up and I had a wireless connection but no internet.  I have spent the last 3 days reading blogs on connecting 2 routers.  Today I hit upon yours and you gave the IP address to get into the links page settings for the router.  Every page tells you how to do what you say but non of them gave the IP address.  Again THANK YOU FOR BEING SO KIND TO US NEWBE'S.  Yes I was shouting that.  I wish everyone would give answers not as though they are talking to someone knows what they are doing but spell it out as if we know nothing cause you never know who may be reading it in the feture.
Any how I now have internet on both routers Now my question is cause it's still a low connection.  Is there a way to have one wireless router pick up a signle without a cat 6 cable?
I have my landlords Comcast Internet going to his WRT54G router.
His Router is routed with a 50' cat 9 cable to my WRT54G by the main door upstairs they are about 20' apart would like to move my ruoter down stairs, but the landlord does not want me to string wire downstiars from his router.
Where my question comes in can I connect one WRT54G wirelessly to the other?
I know simple answer is no!
But do you have a Hard answer of YES?  I hope so!

  • WRT54GS No Longer Recognized by Windows

My WRT54GS is no longer detectable by Windows.  I've tried everything I can think of.  Nothing works.  The only lights that flash are Ethernet 3, 4, and Internet.  They flash randomly.  The Power light, WLAN, and Ethernet 1 and 2 no longer light up.  I've reset the router several times and still nothing.

ive had the same problem before.
I had reset it, tripple checked all settings. in the end i down powered my broadband modem then into the router,
    then on "Administration"
    then "Factory defaults"
then ticked box to yes to reset
    then onto save settings
after that down powered everything inc PC and then powered everything back up, set up router again and then it worked ok then.

  • WRT54GS no longer recognized by EasyLink

Well, it's been a hellish two days since I purchased this product.  I've always used Linksys in the past, and was surprised, after I had setup the home network using the EasyLink software included with the router and having no difficulty assigning all of my wireless and wired systems correctly, that overnight I had lost connectivity.
Turns out it was worse than I thought - every 30-45 minutes, the router would just stop being recognized by EasyLink.  I would open up the program to diagnose the problem, and it would say "different network detected".  I would update, reset communications to the router, and all would be good for another 30-45 minutes.
I saw there was a firmware update that was available, I installed it (didn't reset the router), and it was good for about 2 hours before having to update the router again.
This morning, I spent another 30 minutes putzing around with it.  I remembered the last step to installing the firmware was a router reset (Which I didn't do before), so I did that, then power cycled the router, reconnected through EasyLink - or so I thought.
Now the wireless lights aren't on (SES light is off and button non-functional as well), and EasyLink won't even recognize the router as a Linksys/Cisco product.  The router still recognizes a connection with my PC, but I can't even access the web interface.  Awesome.  I tore out the hardware in frustration and now I have it in my car.
I am returning it.  I do not know if I just got a poor unit or not.  Contemplating getting the MIMO Netgear WPN824...
What do you think?  Is there any way to salvage the current unit?  Should I try the WRT54G instead?  Get another WRT54GS and attribute it to user error/bad luck?  Or should I abandon what I know and start working with Netgear?
PS: I have printouts I took for the technical specs and info, so if anything is needed to diagnose this, please let me know.  I would rather just keep what I bought (not a big fan of returning), but...
