WRT110 wireless printer connection to Brother HL-2170W wireless printer

New here and I have a question.
I have Linksys WRT110 wireless router that works great. I have 7 notebooks working very well. Assignment were done with WEP connection and made sure that all the MAC addresses are registered and limits that router to recognize only computers with such MAC addresses... no problems at al here.
Recently I bought Brother HL-2170W wireless printer... followed all the instructions in their manual, registered its MAC address in my router, provided WEP key to the printer (via their web browser utility)... and this is where the brain fart started...
I can ping to my router just fine... I can ping the printer from the router just fine... however, I can not get the printer to work with any of my notebooks... It works fine if I connect it via USB or Ethernet connections, but nothing on the wireless side..
I know the IP address that this printer was assigned via DHCP... When I programmed the printer with the correct IP address, it also points to port number 9100... and this is where it falls apart...
Can someone please tell me what am I doing wrong or better yet, what step am I missing?
Thank you in advance!

You said "I know the IP address that this printer was assigned via DHCP... When I programmed the printer with the correct IP address, it also points to port number 9100...".
When you programmed the printer, do you mean that you entered the DHCP assigned address directly into the printer, so the printer could use it as a fixed (static) LAN IP address?  If so, this might be the cause for your problem.  When you manually assign an IP address to a printer (or other network device), by entering that address directly into the printer, then you must use an IP address that is outside the DHCP server range.  See "Using Static LAN IP addresses" below, for more info on this topic.
Additionally, to get your printer to work, you must install the network printer drivers on each computer that will use that printer.
Additionally, for WEP, you must enter WEP "key 1"  (found in the router)  into your printer, not the WEP password or passphrase.
*****   Using Static LAN IP addresses   *****
Linksys has several rules for using fixed (static) LAN IP addresses.  You must follow these rules carefully.
Rules for using fixed LAN IP addresses on Linksys routers:
With Linksys routers, a fixed (static) LAN IP addresses must be assigned in the device that is using the address. So you need to enter the fixed address in the computer or printer, not in the router.
When using a Linksys router, any fixed LAN IP address must be outside the DHCP server range (typically 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.149), and it cannot end in 0, 1, or 255.
Therefore any fixed LAN IP address would normally need to be in the range of
192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.99 or
192.168.1.150 thru 192.168.1.254
assuming you are still using the default DHCP server range.
Also, in the computer, when you set up a static LAN IP address, you would need to set the "Subnet mask" to 255.255.255.0 and the "Default Gateway" to 192.168.1.1 and "DNS server" to 192.168.1.1
It is also important that no two devices on your network be set to the same static LAN IP address.

  • How to connect Brother HL-2170W to our PC

Our printer Brother HL 2170W won't print.  Can you help us to understand why.  Our printer apparently isn't connected to our home group.  We have previously been using this printer and do not understand why it won't work.
    Thanks

    1. Are there any errors and warnings in Event logs (including spooler ones)?
    2. What you did before it stoped to work? Any update, change of configuration, installation of application...
    3. Because there are optional driver updates that sometime does not work correctly, reinstall printer driver. Do it with elevated rights

  • My WRT110 Wireless router won't give me a connection to my DSL internet.

I am setting up a home network that includes 2 laptops, 1 DSl modem, 1 wireless (WRT110) router, and 1 printer. The DSl internet is brand new as well and i just got it working as far as for connecting to the internet using a ethernet cord. My next step was to add the wireless router into the mix and allow the laptops to go wireless. I complete the WRT110 wireless router setup wizard and it finishes with it saying i have complete. However, it won't give me the internet signal to where i can connect to the internet (i am still using all 1394 cords and haven't attempted to go wireless yet, figured i should get the connection working before i try to connect wireless). All the lights on the DSL modem are green and its acting like i have a good connection. All the lights on my new router are green (well blue since it is the new kind of router) but still no connection. On a side note, since the wizard was complete i just took a shot in the dark and tried to connect going wireless and both laptops recognize the wireless router and can get a perfect signlal from it. However, when i try and connect to the network it sets there for a long time trying to "aquire network address" then wont connect. I would appreciate any guidance anyone can give me. Thank you

    Thank you Very much!
I just moved into a house where they have a router at one end of the house and I live down stairs at the other end of the house.  I have my own ruoter so I hooked it up and I had a wireless connection but no internet.  I have spent the last 3 days reading blogs on connecting 2 routers.  Today I hit upon yours and you gave the IP address to get into the links page settings for the router.  Every page tells you how to do what you say but non of them gave the IP address.  Again THANK YOU FOR BEING SO KIND TO US NEWBE'S.  Yes I was shouting that.  I wish everyone would give answers not as though they are talking to someone knows what they are doing but spell it out as if we know nothing cause you never know who may be reading it in the feture.
Any how I now have internet on both routers Now my question is cause it's still a low connection.  Is there a way to have one wireless router pick up a signle without a cat 6 cable?
I have my landlords Comcast Internet going to his WRT54G router.
His Router is routed with a 50' cat 9 cable to my WRT54G by the main door upstairs they are about 20' apart would like to move my ruoter down stairs, but the landlord does not want me to string wire downstiars from his router.
Where my question comes in can I connect one WRT54G wirelessly to the other?
I know simple answer is no!
But do you have a Hard answer of YES?  I hope so!

  • What driver do I need to connect to Brother MFC-9325CW

what driver do I need to connect t0 Brother MFC-9325CW?

I believe the Brother drivers are included in the OS installation. Try installing the printer. As you go through the process the Mac will tell you if it discovers the printer. That tells you do not need a driver.
If this is a new printer being connected for the first time, I personally prefer to connect with a USB cable and complete the first steps. Wireless printer connections are much more work, and can be done after you have a functioning printer.

  • Image capture won't connect to Brother  Twain scanning

    Hello
Hope someone can help me. I have just connected a Brother MFC-7860DW all in one printer scanner to my Mac wirelessly. Everything works perfectly except the scanning. Image capture will show the Brother in the device browser window, I click on Twain uni but can see no Connect click button. Just opening Image Capture "no device connected" If I go in to Print and Scan box there is no "scan" button at the top right corner as decribed in the manual.  I have downloded Twain in case my software was not up to date. Nothing happens from the printer buttons end. Seems the Mac can talk to the printer but not Twain Scanner. It seems tantalisingly close. Is there a magic completion?

You installed the Brother image driver package, which includes the Brother ControlCenter software to manage scanning? • Linksys WRT110 Wireless Router

I need to setup my Linksys WRT110 wireless router for  wireless use as well as a router between my cable modem and my desktop PC. So far, I cannot find any documentation on how this is done or if it is possible at all. When I called Linksys support they told me it can be done and provided me with a link to the instructions, however, they did not work. Does anyone know if this is possible? I need to setup in order to work from home and I cannot use a wireless connection to my cable modem but I need a router between my desktop PC and my cable modem. Oh, by the way, I have a new HP desktop which is running Windows 7.  I would appreciate any help someone can lend me.  Thank you. SHH

From what i read on your post looks like your trying to use your wrt110 as a wireless access point and you want to still use your router near your modem.
To do this what you have to do is disable your wrt110 as a dhcp server since your other router near your is acting as the dhcp server.
So what you do is hook a cable to your wrt110 in port 1. type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of your internet explorer. For now this 192.168.1.1 number will get you into the wrt110 until you change it to 192.168.1.5  under setup you will see 2 areas. Under the ip address type in 192.168.1.5 so this make your wrt110 have this ip address.
Below that you will see DHCP server setting disable this. So your wrt110 will not act as the dhcp server it will act as a wireless access point.
Now if you type 192.168.1.1 in your web brower that will open the configuration screen of the router next to your modem. Which that dchp server setting will be enabled.
So basically from your modem your first router will route the signal from the modem thru the router to the computers hooked to it. then say you run a cable from that router to the wrt110.So basically your just uplinking to the wrt110. only thing is your wrt110 will have to act as a access point instead of a router.
Your main router configuration screen to get into it. you would type 192.168.1.1 in your brower after you setup your wrt110 an disable the dhcp server and set the ip to 192.168.1.5 when you type this number  the 105 number in your browser it will go into the web config screen of the wrt110
So to access the web config screens of both routers they will have different numbers.
1st router by your modem will be 192.168.1.1
2nd wirless one will be 192.168.1.5 which you changed when you when in and disable it as a dhcp server since your 1st router by your modem acts as the dhcp server.
Hopefully this will help. I know it does get a little confusing been there and done that more then once.  If not call linksys on the phone tell them what products you have and how you want it to work they will walk you thru it.
My setup in my home from my modem it connects to a 4 port router, then from there to a 24 port switch then uplinks with a Power over Ethernet adapter which sends power thru this little adapter over the brown pair in the cable so you dont need a electrical outlet where you put your wireless access point/router. Then from my switch it uplinks with that POE to a Wrt110 upstairs in my home. I know what a pain this can be i've call them more then once to get mine setup and working.
    GOOD LUCK HOPE THIS HELPS

  • Linksys WRT110 Wireless Dropping

    Hi,
I'm having a really frustrating problem and would be really grateful for some assistence:
    Set up:
    Router: WRT110
1 computer connected via ethernet cable
1 computer using a wireless nic card from cisco
The problem is thus: if the first computer is actively using the internet (even activities as mundane as browsing one's email) the computer connected wirelessly will lose its connection to the internet yet maintain its connection to the router. Both can be actively using the internet, but the wireless will seemingly at random drop internet access (usually in 30-120 minute intervals).
The computer connected via the ethernet cable was unplugged for a week and during that time the wirelessly connected computer was used extensively and did not lose connection once.
I don't understand how to even frame this problem in a concise manner, much less seek information as to how to resolve it. It's seemingly giving all priority to the computer connected via ethernet but I that's just intution speaking.
    Thanks for your time,
    Daniel

On all your Win 7 computers, disable IPv6 under LAN properties for both wired and wireless adapters, reboot.
In the router disable UPnP.  Under wireless settings Beacon Interval 50, RTS and Fragmentation threshold 2304.  Set to channel 1.  Save settings.  Now try.

  • WRT110 will not connect to PS3

I can not connect my new WRT110 wireless N router to my PS3. It connects to everything else in my house laptop PC, MAC. I have been working on this all day. I have no idea what to do. I've tried the DNS stuff that other people have said on other forums. I have tried no WPA passkey at all. That didnt work. The problem I keep getting is that it gets the IP but then no internet access. Most errors were DNS I even manually inputted the DNS server address. For me its 192.168.1.1 . Now does that look like a DNS server address. I mean with my previous WRT54G router everything connected fine with the PS3 now I get a newer Wireless N router and nothing happens. I would have thought this router would have connected easier. I mean it does have nicer features but nothing in my house is wi fi easy setup compatible. Any help would be great. My wireless WRT110 is connect to my IMAC via ethernet cable. Then everything else is wireless. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

On your PS3 you can assign a Static IP i.e: 192.168.1.10, Subnet : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1, Preferred DNS : 208.67.222.222, Alternate DNS : 208.67.220.220. Once you assign this to your PS3, after this you can check if you are able to go online on your PS3.

  • Anyone using Brother HL-2170W with their Mac?

Anyone using Brother HL-2170W with their Mac? I read some reviews at newegg and they are not bad , but at the apple store the reviews are not that good at all. Is this because it is not working well with Leopard as most printers don't or what?

Verizon informs me that Windows is only needed to download and install some form of authentication and that the free wi-fi hotspot service can be used from then on from the Macintosh side. Even though it's a Windows program, I'm assured that the authorized status will be detected when the Mac laptop is used under OS X

  • I cannot connect my Brother wireless printer to my MAC

I have a MAC iOS10.9 and I have a Brother wireless printer.  When I go into printers and scanners, it does not recognize any printers.  When I press the + sign to add a printer, a blank page appears with lines and I cannot write into it.  The printer does recognize my wireless network, but my MAC does not recognize the printer.  I have downloaded the Brother drivers, tried install the disc that came with the printer, but nothing works.  My router is fine and current.  I just changed internet providers yesterday and all my apple products work, but the printer is not working.  It did work with my old wireless network.  thank you

iOS refers to iPad, iPod Touch, and iPhone operating systems.

  • Printing problem, can't connect to Brother MFC-7420 and HP DJ130

I recently performed the 10.5.4 upgrade. I believe the problem I am having started then. When I try to print something to my Brother MFC-7420 I get a Printing Page 1, 24% completed message and it never finishes. I am also having issues with my Designjet 130. Both are connected with a USB cord and I have tried the usual powering off, connecting/disconnecting and removing/adding to printer control panel. My Epson printer connects and prints normal. Any suggestions?

Similar problem being experienced here. My Brother MFC 7420 was working fine one day and is lost to my system the next. Any attempt to print just stalls with a message like "Printing 25%" or some such figure.
I've tried uninstalling the driver, updating the latest driver from Brother, updating the Brother driver from Apple, switched USB cables, and finally talked to a helpful Brother phone support technician who got me to try to re-install from the Leopard DVD. When I open the Optional Installs and open Printer Drivers, the Brother drivers are greyed out. He said it was an Apple problem, and thats where I'm at right now.
The G4 is one year out of its 3 year Protection Plan so I presume I'll get no help from Apple.Given the number of posts dealing with this problem, it does seem to be related to the 10.5.4 upgrade but I've not heard anything constructive from Apple on this issue. Anyone got any ideas?

  • WRT110 Can't connect MAC and PC to wireless network at the same time.

I installed a WRT110 router on my son-in-law's MAC sometime back and at the time configured it to have the MAC connected via Ethernet.  My PC laptop worked fine with it in the wireless mode.  Recently we changed the MAC to wireless newtworking and removed the Ehthernet connection.  Now if the MAC connects to the wireless network first and then I attempt to connect with my PC laptop the PC cannot find the network and the MAC loses connection.  If I shut my PC down the MAC will not find the network until it is put to sleep and reawakened.  If the MAC is put to sleep my PC wil immediately find the network. If I first connect my PC and then awaken the MAC both work fine.  I've checked all of the router's setup settings and they seem to be OK.  I am not MAC savvy and my son-in-law is a neophyte at computers so we are really helpless when something doesn't work.  Help will be appreciated.

I tried this setup change after reading another similar post.  It didn't help.  One thing I had wrong in the first post is that neither computer will connect to the wireless net after we experience the wireless failures until both are turned off, at least that is what happened after making the suggested changes.  Is this a WRT110 issue?  Seems there are quite a few posts similar to mine.

I am trying to setup using the wireless with WPA2 personal security.  However, i am not supposed get it to connect.  It told me unidentified network, and it's not going through to the global earth icon under "Network and Sharing Center".
Now, i have searched solution on google, this is not my first experience setting up wireless, i used to have a WRT54G wireless and it works fine.
Now i have tried all these procedure below:
    1) Open the setup page of the router and Under the Wireless tab,Click on Advanced Wireless Settings...Change the Beacon Interval to 50,Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...Also reduce the MTU to 1400 and click on save settings..Now,check.
    2) On all Vista and Win 7 computers, disable IPv6 under the LAN properties for the adapters.
It still doesn't work.  Can anybody here help me with this issue? thanks alot

  • WRT110 Wireless - Unable to detect signal/connection.

Recently lost connectivity to an existing wireless connection that I had configured months ago.  Both XP laptop connecting with Dell Wireless WLAN Card and Wii box will no longer connect or detect signal.  Oddly, wireless connection showed up momentarily after resetting power on router but then disappeared. I connect fine through wired connection and laptop detects all my neighbors SSIDs.  All lights on router are lit...but no wireless signal.  I even attached a USB wireless device to my desktop pc to test.  It detected all the neighbors SSIDs but not mine.  Same with laptop.
    Troubleshooting steps I performed:
    ------Router------
    Cycled power.
    Held reset button.
    Upgraded Linksys firmware to 1.0.5
Changed configuration to Enable SSID Broadcast
    ------Laptop------
Upgraded Dell WLAN card driver from vA17 4.170.5 to vA22 4.170.77.18
Disabled Dell Wireless utility and enabled Windows Wireless configuration.  Neither Dell Utility or Windows Wireless detected my wireless signal.  Both will detect AND connect to neighbor's open connection.
