  • Linksys WRT110 Wireless Router

I need to setup my Linksys WRT110 wireless router for  wireless use as well as a router between my cable modem and my desktop PC. So far, I cannot find any documentation on how this is done or if it is possible at all. When I called Linksys support they told me it can be done and provided me with a link to the instructions, however, they did not work. Does anyone know if this is possible? I need to setup in order to work from home and I cannot use a wireless connection to my cable modem but I need a router between my desktop PC and my cable modem. Oh, by the way, I have a new HP desktop which is running Windows 7.  I would appreciate any help someone can lend me.  Thank you. SHH

From what i read on your post looks like your trying to use your wrt110 as a wireless access point and you want to still use your router near your modem.
To do this what you have to do is disable your wrt110 as a dhcp server since your other router near your is acting as the dhcp server.
So what you do is hook a cable to your wrt110 in port 1. type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of your internet explorer. For now this 192.168.1.1 number will get you into the wrt110 until you change it to 192.168.1.5  under setup you will see 2 areas. Under the ip address type in 192.168.1.5 so this make your wrt110 have this ip address.
Below that you will see DHCP server setting disable this. So your wrt110 will not act as the dhcp server it will act as a wireless access point.
Now if you type 192.168.1.1 in your web brower that will open the configuration screen of the router next to your modem. Which that dchp server setting will be enabled.
So basically from your modem your first router will route the signal from the modem thru the router to the computers hooked to it. then say you run a cable from that router to the wrt110.So basically your just uplinking to the wrt110. only thing is your wrt110 will have to act as a access point instead of a router.
Your main router configuration screen to get into it. you would type 192.168.1.1 in your brower after you setup your wrt110 an disable the dhcp server and set the ip to 192.168.1.5 when you type this number  the 105 number in your browser it will go into the web config screen of the wrt110
So to access the web config screens of both routers they will have different numbers.
1st router by your modem will be 192.168.1.1
2nd wirless one will be 192.168.1.5 which you changed when you when in and disable it as a dhcp server since your 1st router by your modem acts as the dhcp server.
Hopefully this will help. I know it does get a little confusing been there and done that more then once.  If not call linksys on the phone tell them what products you have and how you want it to work they will walk you thru it.
My setup in my home from my modem it connects to a 4 port router, then from there to a 24 port switch then uplinks with a Power over Ethernet adapter which sends power thru this little adapter over the brown pair in the cable so you dont need a electrical outlet where you put your wireless access point/router. Then from my switch it uplinks with that POE to a Wrt110 upstairs in my home. I know what a pain this can be i've call them more then once to get mine setup and working.
    GOOD LUCK HOPE THIS HELPS

  • EA6900 Can't connect to Router error message from Linksys Smart Wifi

Hello Everyone, I am having an issue where I cannot remotely access my router. I currently have Charter as my ISP and have internet connectivity when at home. I can also access my router through Smart Wifi when on my local connection. When I try to access remotely I get the "Can't connect to the router" error message. I believe that I have enable the correct settings on my router to provide this service. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. Mike Carlin

Thanks for the reply. ISP: Charter CableModem: Wish I could tell you at this point, but not at home and can't remember specifics. I thought that I did the association.  Is this what you are talking about?http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=140177

  • My WRT110 Wireless router won't give me a connection to my DSL internet.

I am setting up a home network that includes 2 laptops, 1 DSl modem, 1 wireless (WRT110) router, and 1 printer. The DSl internet is brand new as well and i just got it working as far as for connecting to the internet using a ethernet cord. My next step was to add the wireless router into the mix and allow the laptops to go wireless. I complete the WRT110 wireless router setup wizard and it finishes with it saying i have complete. However, it won't give me the internet signal to where i can connect to the internet (i am still using all 1394 cords and haven't attempted to go wireless yet, figured i should get the connection working before i try to connect wireless). All the lights on the DSL modem are green and its acting like i have a good connection. All the lights on my new router are green (well blue since it is the new kind of router) but still no connection. On a side note, since the wizard was complete i just took a shot in the dark and tried to connect going wireless and both laptops recognize the wireless router and can get a perfect signlal from it. However, when i try and connect to the network it sets there for a long time trying to "aquire network address" then wont connect. I would appreciate any guidance anyone can give me. Thank you

    Thank you Very much!
I just moved into a house where they have a router at one end of the house and I live down stairs at the other end of the house.  I have my own ruoter so I hooked it up and I had a wireless connection but no internet.  I have spent the last 3 days reading blogs on connecting 2 routers.  Today I hit upon yours and you gave the IP address to get into the links page settings for the router.  Every page tells you how to do what you say but non of them gave the IP address.  Again THANK YOU FOR BEING SO KIND TO US NEWBE'S.  Yes I was shouting that.  I wish everyone would give answers not as though they are talking to someone knows what they are doing but spell it out as if we know nothing cause you never know who may be reading it in the feture.
Any how I now have internet on both routers Now my question is cause it's still a low connection.  Is there a way to have one wireless router pick up a signle without a cat 6 cable?
I have my landlords Comcast Internet going to his WRT54G router.
His Router is routed with a 50' cat 9 cable to my WRT54G by the main door upstairs they are about 20' apart would like to move my ruoter down stairs, but the landlord does not want me to string wire downstiars from his router.
Where my question comes in can I connect one WRT54G wirelessly to the other?
I know simple answer is no!
But do you have a Hard answer of YES?  I hope so!

I think there is a profile saved on your wireless computer.
What is the operating system on your computer ?
Delete the profile on your wireless computer. I think you are using the intel wireless adapter on that computer.
Open the Intel wireless adapter utility. There you will find the profiles saved on your computer. Delete the wireless network profile that you are trying to connect.
Now open the setup page of the wireles router. Go to the wireless tab. Check the wireless network name. Click on wireless security tab and check the wireless security settings. Make sure that you have the correct network key/password.
Now try to connect to the wireless network again.
If it is windows XP operating system then you can also connect to the wireless network using the windows wireless network utility.

  • No Problem hooking up Vista laptop with WRT110 Wireless Router but can not get XP laptop to see it

I purchased a WRT110 Linksys wireless router this afternoon and had no problem configuring it for my wired desktp and my wireless Vista laptop, but my Acer XP wireless laptop will not even see the network.  I have tried WEP, WAP, and no security, but I can see the neighbors routers but I can not see mine.  My XP laptop is an Acer 3680-2574 with a  Broadcom 802.11g network adapter.

Is the SSID enabled on the router ?
What is the firmware on the router ?

After rebooting the router, it starts working fine for some time & then same issue occurs. Logs are attached.
Please let us know the root cause for this & necessary troubleshooting steps for the same. It is installed with 4Port FE Switchport Module.

This is most likely bug CSCtx72953
Best advice:  upgrade to 15.1.M5 -- should be out within a few days.
Re-defining the vlan (vlan xx name blah), save, and and reloading will fix it for some number of weeks/months until it fails again.
It's an issues with the switchport cards.

  • ISIS Routing Error Message

    Hi All,
Can someone please help me out with what the below error message means and how to get rid of it.
    %CLNS-3-BADPACKET: ISIS: LAN L1 hello, bad circuit type 0 from ca01.1320.0038 (GigabitEthernet3/0)
Without any debugging on, some of my routers kept generating these messages, even though it does have any effect on my routing process.
I have googled and do a lot of search on Cisco's site but to no avail. Please no more Cisco links, just explain if you know.
    Thanking you all in advance,
    O.A

    Hi O.A.,
the message says that a HELLO packet contains a reserved circuit type equal to zero, while the system was expecting to get type 1 or 2 or 1/2. If you are running some sort of an emulator, then it is a known glitch which you might rectify by simply having the instances restarted. If this is a real gear, you might do a interface reset. You also could set up a sniffer capture and dig it a bit further. From troubleshooting point of view worth of interest is to check the full log on the node you're seeing these messages, as well as to check its peer on gig3/0(ca01.1320.0038).
    Cheers!

  • Trying to set up wireless printer. error message says: "wireless radio not working" help.....

I have no knowledge of a "wireless radio" muchless of how to "turn it on"

I think the printer's radio (the device it uses to communicate with your wireless router).
If it is convenient, you can plug the printer into your router using an Ethernet cable for the same functionality as it being wireless.  I can help if you want.
If that is not convenient, please contact HP support: www.hp.com/go/totalcare (click on Printers & Monitors, there is a phone number on the resulting page).
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Rapidshare link not working with WRT110 wireless router

I am trying to download using rapidshare but after the countdown timer reaches zero and the download link button appears, i couldn't get the link for the download file. This happens when i am wireless but when i connect my laptop directly to the linksys WRT110 router via LAN cable, i can get the link for the download file without problems.
What settings do i need to do to fix this?  The rapidshare says it might be due to a rotating IP address or something. Only the rapidshare website is having this problem, other downloading sites doesn't seem to have this problem.
i am using a WRT110 router, with no security, on a wireless connection on my laptop on windows vista, using firefox.

Tried Internet Explorer 7, its the same problem. it still takes some time before i can get the link for the download file. Although i sometimes can get it faster with IE than with firefox.
Any solutions to this problem? I still thinking its the Routers configuration that has to be modified to solve this problem.

  • WRT110 Wireless Router Has Right Info about Internet Router but Can't Get to Internet

    Hi,
I've been reading a number of posts here on the inability of people to get the WRT110 to reach the Internet via another router/firewall, but I think that this is a different enough scenario - or diagnostic - that it's worth a separate thread. Thanks for all of the expertise that's out there, I'll need it!
Broadband Firewall Router: Linksys BEFSX411.On 192.168.1.1, standard address range for DHCP, 100-149. One leg off this router goes down to two other wireless routers and a PC, all working fine.
On the fourth port of this router I have attached the WRT110, BEFSX411 has assigned IP address 192.168.1.101, the WRT110's native address is 192.168.1.5. When I put a PC on the BEFSX411's LAN I can ping 192.168.1.5 and reach it successfully.
If I look at the information on the WRT110, it has the correct DNS addresses out at my ISP's data centre. it APPEARS to have the right address for the BEFSX411 - 192.168.1.1. I can reach the admin functions of the WRT110 from a PC attached to its own LAN segment. DHCP addresses on the LAN side of the WRT110 are ranged from 102.168.1.140 on up, overlapping with the BEFSX411's range but well north of any likely direct assignments by that router.
Wonderful. Now here's the sticker - I cannot ping anything on the other side of the WRT110 - yet it has the correct information in it about the entities on the other side of it via its Internet port. No DNS, no nothing. I am baffled.
OK, now your turn. Please help.
    Many thanks,
    John

BTW, this gave me the expected result - with DHCP turned off, the router has no facility to assign ports automatically, so nothing attached to it can communicate with it! Reset solved it, of course, but I thought that it was worth a try.
I have swapped out my old Linksys router with the WRT110, it works fine as the sole router, wireless works fine, though I took some of the suggestions on this board to heart and enabled channel 11 only. My guess is that one could turn off the firewalling functions of the router and get it to work, but at this point it's not worth it. At least I have a good spare router now, just in case.

  • Unable to connect Blueberry PowerPC G3 to wireless network - error message 'invalid password'

I have just purchased a TimeMachine and am using it as wireless network. All the devices in the house (2 Mac laptops, 2 droid phones) are successfully connected.
My old Blueberry won't connect. The message it gives me is 'invalid password'.
The Blueberry is running 10.3.9. I don't think I can upgrade past that because it is a PowerPC G3.
Do I need to do some sort of conversion for the password?

Not sure about your original password problem, but your blueberry imac (i have the same model) will run all the way up into tiger.  (10.4.11 to be exact) you might have to have airport too.... But scince you bought the  time macine you probaby already took care of that.
    Just tryin to help.

  • WRT54G Wont recognize router error message

Can someone help me the people i call cant do anything and dont help me. they just take me in circles and when i get to the detection step of their so called easy set up it fails HELP!

Hmmmm, 1st define your network for us. "Help me" does not exactly suffice. Anyway, who is your internet service provider? How many computers overall do you have? How many are supposed to be wired and how many are supposed to be wireless through the router.

  • Windows 7 and WRT110 wireless router

Do I need to update the firmware on my router to allow my windows 7 computer to see the router and connect?

No, your router will work fine with Windows 7 without the firmware update, but you should check the release notes for the latest update for any other issues that could affect the operation of your router.
