WRT110 with Intel WIFI Link 5100

I have just bought a Dell laptop with a Intel WIFI Link 5100 Wireless-n Mini Card. Went and bought a Linksys WRT110 Wireless N router. It worked fine for a couple of weeks now, it's losing connection all the time. I have a Dell PC that is also connected to the router and I have a connection but it's wired not wireless. Any ideas will be helpful?

Download Firmware 2.77 MB...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful" After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

Adjust Wireless Settings -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...

For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab
- Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
- Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
- Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
If you keep loosing the wireless signals, then you should download and upgdate the drivers for your wireless adapter...

Using WRT610N w/ Intel WiFi Link 5100 wireless module

I am considering buying an FW or Z series Sony laptop which includes Intel WiFi Link 5100 as the wireless module, which is a dual range (2.4 & 5 GHz) 802.11 a/b/g/draft-n module. In order to benefit from wireless-n speeds as much as possible, I want to buy a good Wireless-N router. The one I am considering buying is Linksys WRT-610N. However, the thing is that I see on some forums that people have some problems with an older Linksys Wireless-N router used in conjunction with an older Intel wireless module. I am afraid I can have similar problem with the combination of the above mentioned router and wireless module. Moreover, I read a comment on somebody’s review of WRT610N on amazon.com that says that WRT610N is based on broadcom wireless chipset and thus may not give a good performance on PCs having an Atheros wireless module. If this is correct, it may go the same for using WRT610N with an Intel wireless chipset. Anyhow, my question is, have you been using a Linksys router with your PC that has an Intel wireless module and how do you find the performance (speed, range, frequency of drop-offs)? Comments from people using WRT610N (at least WRT600) along with a PC that has an Intel WiFi Link 5100 will be much more appreciated!

I think your in luck.. I have the exact combination that you are considering. I have a Sony FW190 with the intel 5100 a/g/draft-n card.
In my network I have the following:
1 Toshiba laptop 802.11abg (atheros)
1 Sony laptop 802.11abg (intel)
1 Sony FW190 802.11agn (Intel 5100)
I'm leveraging the dual radios on the wrt610n using 5Ghz band (wide) exclusively for the Sony FW190 the other laptops use the 2.4Ghz band.
On the Draft-N wifi connections I get connection speeds from 136Mbps to 300Mbps .. I've gotten donload speeds from my home server at a sustained 60Mbps+ speeds.
The configuration on both the laptop and the router took some understanding because of the features that 802.11n provides and the capability of the router to support dual radios. But overall I'm happy with the hardware and performance.

W500 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

Hi,
since my WLAN Card seems to be broken I bought myself a new Intel Wifi Link 5100 for my W500. After I replaced the old card with the new one, I get a "1802 unauthorized network card error".
I googled for the problem an now I am completely pissed about lenovo. My W500 has a standard slot for such cards, but the W500 has a bios which checks cards against a whitelist and I cannot turn this completely useless check off.
Any idea what I could do?
2 weeks ago I started thinking about buying a new notebook after christmas. Now I wonder, whether the W530 suffers from the same problem. In the moment I am not sure, whether it makes any sense to buy another lenovo product, when it turns out, it could be crippled the same way as my W500.
So does anybody know, whether the W530 suffers the same problem.
A last question? What happens, when I plug a WLAN-Stick into USB? Must it also be authorized by lenovo and how do I find out, which products are authorized?

sorry for your troubles.
afaik, all ThinkPads of at least the last 5(?) or more generations have had a BIOS whitelist for mPCI/e WLAN / WWAN options. as i understand it, this is due to getting approvals from numerous "Communications" regulatory agencies around the world for the cards. unfortunately, i've never seen the whitelists published anywhere, so we normally go by the FRU #s included in hardware maintenance manuals when folks ask for advice on compatible cards.
re: the USB WLAN stick, you should have no issue similar to a whitelist block.

Intel Wifi Link 5100

Hi all. I'm considering ditching my laptop's Broadcom BCM4312 for an Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN. This is primarily because of it's native driver support, as the broadcom isn't giving me very good performance and it's range is quite random (using broadcom-wl driver.)
Anyone have any experience with the wifi link 5100, good or bad? Notebookreview has mixed reviews, mostly from windows users. Some say the card is horrible, some say it's great. The way I'm seeing it atm is that it can't be worse than my broadcom as far as drivers go.

I have an Intel 5100. I can't get it to play well with N-networks, to many dropped connections. Not sure if the Intel drivers suck or that the card sucks. However, it does work very well with G-networks.

Further information:
My MSI GX640 had problems with heating and was sent to be repaired and got its heatzink switched. I started getting disconnects every 10 minutes or so, sometimes less than a minute apart, sometimes up to 20 minutes without a disconnection.
Don't really know what information you might need, so please do tell if something is missing.

But yeah you'll might need to change which wireless channels you are on. If you aren't using Wireless connection then you might have to check your LAN card drivers or this can allso be caused by your ISP or bad connection on your internet line.

Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN not connecting

I am having an issue getting the Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN on my HP Pavilion dv7-1275dx to connect to my wireless router (Zyxel P334WT). It would intermittently connect, then drops off for no apparent reason, and then refuses to connect for days. I contacted HP support and we spent three hours trying to fix the problem, to no avail. Strangely enough, when I stick my Netgear WG111v2 USB wireless adapter into the computer, I am able to connect to my network with no problem. The computer runs Windows Home Vista 64 bit. Intel WiFi Link 5100 cannot see E2000 at 5 GHz

When I configure My new Linksys E2000 router to 5Ghz, I am not able to see the network in my laptop. How do I tell reliably that the router is working properly? 2.4 Ghz works well though.

Try configuring the properties for your wireless card. Check the settings under the Advanced tab, and go to Wireless Mode. By default I believe it is g only. Set it to a/g and you should see your network.

Satelite U400-177 - weak connection using Intel Wifi Link 5100

Recently I have problems with my wifi connection.
I don't know why but now the connection is erratic when in past recent my connection was 30Mbps now is 1 or 10 or 20 I'm talking about 1 feet near the router.
I have the latest driver 14.2.0.10 and cant find a solution.
I'm thinking in change the card with a new one like the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230.
Do you know that is compatible?

As far as I know there are no informations regarding the compatibility between this Wlan card and the notebook.
So you would need to test this yourself
But if the BIOS would recognize this Wlan properly, then there should not be a issue in order to use this
According the Wlan card specifications, this card allows connectivity at 2.4 GHz to access older 802.11b/g networks and 5 GHz for higher speeds and greater network capacity.
However, Im owner of the U400 notebook and my Wlan works properly.
But Ive disabled all the power saving features for Wlan which allows using the card with best performance. You can disable this in win 7 power management.

No, unfortunately the support for "master" (=AP) mode in the Linux module you are using was dropped by Intel some time last year. Otherwise it would be listed in the available interface modes.

X200 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

Hello,
I'm trying to get wifi working on my x200, but nothing I try seems to work.
Initially, in XP or Windows 7, the card wasnt even detected, so wouldn't come up in the unrecognized devices section in device manager. I installed/uninstalled the drivers several times but nothing changed.
I then opened up the Thinkpad and moved the wifi card from the first slot to the second. Upon booting, in Windows 7 and again in xp, the card was recognised, but a code 10 error came up.
I've tried replacing the wlan card with one from an R60, but the x200's boot software prevented the PC from booting up.
Can anyon help?

Update to my first note. After a day of installing countless drivers, bios updates and whatever else. I'm pleased to say that my x200 is now woking in XP with wifi on the 5100.
The PCI slot the 5100 card was in to start with did not register any device to be present. The second slot, recognised the card but gave a code 10 error.
I also followed the steps outlined in: kbartke's post on resolving the code 10 on 5100 issue. That had no immediate effect, but may have eventually solved the problem.
I also updated the bios to 3.02.
The strange thing that seemed to work was changing the machine's name. Once restarted, the wifi light came on.
I now have to figure out how to get rid of all the bloatware i managed to install in my attempts to get this working...

Alternative to Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN wireless network card?

I'm finding that my Intel 5100 AGN wireless network card is not performing as well as it used to. I've tried everything... even drivers are fully up to date. But I keep losing connection to my wireless router, even though connection strength is between 3-4 bars. I find that I rarely get dropped if I have 5 bars. But if it weakens to 3, I get periodically dropped no matter what wireless network I am using.
I want to replace this card with something better, but of course compatible with the HP dv5 (my specific model is dv5t-1000). Any recommendations?

What I meant by my statement regarding you having the better of the available cards for your notebook is that, yes, I am sure the Intel 5300 is an improvement over the 5100, but the problem is you can't install the 5300 in your notebook.
The Intel 5300 is not supported (only the cards/part numbers listed in the service manual can be installed) and your notebook wouldn't boot until you removed the card.
You can try a different card listed in the manual if you want.
However, you are limited to the:
Broadcom 4322 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN module
Broadcom BCM4312 802.11b/g WLAN module (not a wireless N card)
I suppose you can use an external USB adapter but I would get one with an external antenna connected to it, because I would have to believe the 3 antenna wire setup in your notebook has to provide superior reception over a plain USB wireless adapter with an internal antenna as its only antenna.
The antennas go all the way up to the top of your screen.
Did you fiddle around with your network card's advanced settings? They can be found by clicking on the card in the device manager, clicking on the advanced tab. make a note of where the settings are now so if something goes buggy, you can change them back.

Wireless Problem in windows 7 intel wifi link 5100agn

i bought a dv7 1270us laptop in january. everything was fine until the last 3 months i started having small problems in vista. it would take 10+ minutes to connect and the speed would go up and down. then i installed windows 7 and am either having problems with the card or driver but ive tried every driver i can find and nithing has worked.. the wireless drops randonly. when it drops it doesnt lose connection the signal drops all the way down to one bar and i get maybe 10Kbps of bandwith well it takes 2 minutes to load a page of this forum atleast. When it drops it also only drops for maybe 5-10 minutes or else it stays like that until i restart but resarting always fixes it tempoparily for 10 minutes or so. toaday i tried to disconnect and reconnect to my network. as soon as i cicked connect i got a blue screen it pointed torwards netw5v64.sys i have tried re installing the drivers multiple times and the problem isnt resolved. i have sent the laptop in twice in the last 2 months one for the blue ray drive and wireless problems i am having now. they sent it back with a new blue ray drive and a new antenna for my wireless saying the card was fina it was a driver and maybe a new antenna would help with connectivity. well they were wrong. i got it back and it started overheating to 90+ degrees celcius and wireless problems were still there even though they re-imaged the hard drive so all drivers should be perfect.so i sent it back again. now i just got it back and they cleaned the heatsink and completely ignored my wireless problems. the sheet that states the repairs that were done has a circle aroubd cleaned heatsink/fan and thats it n comments or anything. then to make the icing on the cake there is a 3 inch long fairly deep scrath on my laptop i take verygood care of all of my laptops so that i can sell them used for more than a scratched up one. i am very disappointed in hp and almost dont want to send it back and loose it for another week just to get it back without anything being done again i am almost certain they would re0image the hard drive again and send it back since they didnt even do that the second time. okay back on topic is there anything anyone has heard t fix this so i dont have to send it in again. any help is appreciated

Intel! They make processors and a variety of motherboard hardware, but they seem to have a devil of a time making decent drivers. Particularly with their wireless NICs. Lately I’ve noticed a number of errors springing from the Intel WiFi Link 5100/5300 AGN family of wireless adapters. They seem to cause random bluescreen errors on Windows Vista systems. Fortnuately, there is a viable workaround:
-Right click on Computer and select Manage.
-After Computer Management opens up, go to Device Manager.
-In Device Manager, expand the Network Adapters category.
-Right-click on “Intel (R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN” and select Properties.
-In Properties, go to the Power Management tab.
-Under the Power Management tab, make sure that “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” is unchecked.
Apparently, the driver for the WiFi Link 5100 can’t properly handle the device going to sleep, and pulls down the whole system. Hopefully Intel will fix this in future driver updates. Until then, this workaround will have to do.

T500 - Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN Driver

I purchased my T500 within the first week Lenovo had it available for US consumers to order. I was assured the machine was going to come with a WiMax card. I gave it to my daughter to use. We never tested WiMax since we did not have WiMax in our city until October of last year. Came to find out, our machine did not come with a WiMax card as was promissed. It has in it the Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN card instead. Needless to say, I no longer feel comfortable ordering from Lenovo anymore. We got seven laptops in the house. Five of which are ThinkPads. However, we've moved over to Samsung after this unpleasant experience.
Today I wanted to see if there's an updated version of the driver I'm running for my WiFi card, to my unpleasant surprise, the driver for the Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN card in my T500 does not exist anywhere at www.lenovo.com. I only see drivers for the Intel 5150 and the Intel 5350 cards.
Does anybody out there have any idea where I can find the latest driver for the Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN in my duped T500 laptop?

Home Network Router for T500 w/Intel WiFi Link 5300 (AGN)

I just purchased a new T500 notebook (Type 2242-34U) and am interested in setting up a home network. I have broadband cable hooked up to my Dell PC (Time Warner/Roadrunner). My T500 comes with Intel WiFi Link 5300 (AGN). Any advice and/or recommendations with regards to the model/type of router is greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

I'm using a Linksys WRT-600N (the previous model) with 4965AGN and 5300AGN cards in various ThinkPads and have been very satisfied with the 802.11n performance.

I believe the SIM card slot is in the battery bay. Remove the battery to access.
That Intel 5100 is a wifi card, not a wwan card. Do you also have a wwan card installed, or is that what you are asking about?
