WRT120N moderate nat in PC games

I have router as mentioned in subject. Games i'm playing most online are assassin's creed brotherhood, assassin's creed revelations and both of them show to me i have moderate nat.
Exact message in revelations is:
"Upload
Bad
Your game experience will not be satisfactory, you might will not be able to use voicechat. Try to limit the network traffic to enhance your performances."
Second part of this message goes like that:
"Nat classification
Moderate
You will not be able to play or communicate with players who have strict nat."
When i connect internet to my pc directly via ethernet modem (asmax AR801MP)  nat is opened.
My ISP is polish Dialog.
How should i configure this router to get in PC games nat opened? I already have firewall disabled.  Router's firmware updated to latest available one v1.0.06

I've found out new version of firmware is released so updated it right away.
After it i've took a look at my faq for assassin's creed revelations:
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/616754-Solutions-to-common-issues-assassin’s-creed-revelations-pc-game-–-community-based-faq
And configured ports this way, if i did something wrong pls correct me.
And of course computer set to static ip with ip number 192.168.1.104.
Still have moderate nat in this game.
Anyway... Opening ports when firewall is disabled makes any sense? I thought when firewall is disabled it mean i do not have to open ports.

Look at my answer on this thread https://community.bt.com/t5/Other-Broadband-Queries/Xbox-one-moderate-NAT-on-Homehub-5/m-p/1109194/h...
This is actually for the xbox one but with slight alterations you can do the same on ps3.
Change the port forwarded to 3074 instead of 3075 and  instead of finding xboxsystemos look for the ps3.
    EDIT:
I'll list the steps again making changes that should work with ps3 although I can't confirm because I dumped my hh5 a few months ago due the fact that I now have 4 games consoles and the hub UPnP is so poor I had to buy a new router.
First  switch off ps3 then open a web browser on your PC.
First go into the hub settings by typing bthomehub.home in the address bar. If that doesn't work then try typing 192.168.1.254.
Click advanced settings. Type in password if asked then click go to advanced settings.
    Click 'Home Network'
Then find the ps3 in the network diagram. I can't remember if it is listed as ps3 or unknown
Where it says always use this IP address click 'Yes' then click Apply.
Next Click the Firewall tab then click port forwarding.
    Click 'Manage games and applications'
Click 'Add new game or application'
Where it says game or application name just type COD ps3
Where it says Copy an existing game or application click 'No'
Where it says protocol leave as 'Any'
In the port range setting type 3074 - 3074
leave translate to blank then click add
    Click apply then OK.
Go back to main port forwarding screen then where it says Game or application click the arrow in the drop down box and select COD PS3. In the device box select the ps3
Then click add then click Apply.
Switch ps3 back on and try testing connection to make sure you have nat type 2
Also try cod and you should now have an open NAT.

I ran some tests on my 360....
I have the latest updates XBox360 installed, see router details in my sig...It's a Buffalo, not sure how much difference that is going to make.....
contrary to popular advice I have seen, I have my 360 network settings on full auto (IP and DNS), no port forwarding, with UPnP enabled. I run the XBox Live connection test, and it returns no problems...no mention of NAT, moderate or otherwise....
So....I set my IP to manually assigned, DNS to manually assigned, and re-ran the test, and this time it gave me a notice that I had moderate NAT....
So, it appears that the answer may be to just set everything to auto on the XBox, enable UPnP on the router, without any port forwarding configured for the XBox, and you are good to go. With this config, when I look on the UPnP page in Tomato, I see:

  • X1 Moderate NAT

I have a Xbox One that constantly gives me Moderate NAT.  I have a wired connection.  Use a cable modem, HITRON CDA-30360.  My router is Linksys E3200.  I have 2 Xbox 360's , also wired connections that works fine.  I have read other posts on this subject, and I have tried port forwarding the ports mentioned.  Have tried port triggering 0 thru 65535.  Have put my Xbox One in the DMZ, also tried static IP addressing.  Nothing has worked yet.  Is the E3200 not a good router with the X1?  Or is there something I am missing.  I have heard that you have to unplug your X1 before you change router settings, don't understand why that would make a difference.
Beginning to think Microsoft needs to fix something, this should not be that big of a deal...

Have you done the following after Ports have been triggered? 0--65535 or
XB1 users, new ports (UDP) have been added for this device:
    Port 500
    Port 3544
    Port 4500
Pressing both triggers + both bumpers on the controller in the Multiplayer Troubleshooter to refresh the NAT type of the console.
For XB1 users, the XB1 feature "Instant On" is causing faults NAT conditions and causing Moderate or Strict NAT to be seen. Please disable the"Instant On" feature and use the "Energy Saving" mode. This should show OPEN NAT status. There is a problem with "Instant On" and he's handling behavior with uPnP on routers. This is a MS XB1 issue, not a router issue.
Try this with just the XB1 online using a wired connection with the other xboxes OFF.

  • Moderate Nat On PS4 & Xbox One

    Hello There!
As the title says my PS4 and Xbox One Are both Having Moderate Nat Problems And Im Pulling My Hair Out, Any Help ?

    G33MAN wrote:
Yeah but did you do the multiplayer test and then hold all the bumper buttons and the two triggers ? It works just google xboxx one wireless issues and one of the very first links is by MS telling people to do this to open the nat.
Yes but this is only temporary.
As soon as you restart even in energy saving mode the nat goes moderate again.
I am using wired as well so the problem isn't just with wireless.
I think the xbox one has major UPnP bugs that makes it incompatible with the bthomehubs.
The only NAT I can get to stay open is call of duty ghosts. Thats through port forwarding port 3075.
But the xbox one dashboard is having problems even though I port forwarded port 3074.
I think the problem is that the home hub overwrites this port forward rule whenever I switch on my xbox 360 as the xbox 360 opens port 3074 by UPnP. I still get open NAT on the 360 suggesting the home hub has allowed the 360 to steal port 3074 which is when I start getting the nat problems on xbox one.
Oh and can someone with a bit of knowledge explain what this cone NAT is and whether it is a problem?

  • WRT54GL - two xboxes - moderates nat... sometimes

    Modem: RCA DHG525
    Router: WRT54GL
    ISP: Cogeco (Ontario Canada)
I have two xboxes connected to my router (wired).  Both xboxes have unique static IPs.  xbox1 is in the DMZ.  xbox2 has ports 53, 80 and 3074 forwarded for TCP and UDP.  Block Anonymous WAN Requests is disabled.  MTU is set to auto.  uPnP is disabled.
I just ran the connection test on xbox2 and got an open nat.  I left xbox2 on but signed out of live.  I went to xbox1 and ran the connection test and received a moderate nat.
I powered off both xboxs and reran the connection tests with only one xbox powered on at a time.  Both xbox1 and xbox2 report moderate nat.
After having both xboxes powered off for a while I ran the connection test on xbox2 again and the nat is open.  I powered off xbox2 and ran the connection test on xbox1 and again the nat is moderate.
Again I left both xboxes powered off for a while and ran the connection test on xbox1 first.  The nat is moderate.  I powered off xbox1 and ran the test on xbox2 and the nat is open.  I've run the test on xbox1 before and received an open nat though.
Is this a timing thing?  Is something released if the xboxes are both powered off long enough?
Is there a way I can get both xboxes to have an open nat consistantly?  I don't need to have them both online at the same time.  I'd just like to have an open nat whether I'm playing on xbox1 or xbox2.
    Thanks,

    ok... I tried that out:
    Set MTU to 1364
    enabled uPnP
    disabled port forwarding
    disabled dmz
    enabled port triggering:
    53 TCP
    80 TPC
    3074 TCP
    53 UDP
    88 UDP
    3074 UDP
    Both xboxes powered on:
    xbox2 has an open nat
    xbox1 has an open nat
That did it... thanks for all the help!  Awesome support from the forums!

  • Trying to change NAT connection from moderate NAT connection to an open NAT connection for XBOX LIVE

Hi, I have a Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router/WRT160Nv2 and I have been trying to change my NAT connection from a moderate NAT connection to a open NAT connection for my Xbox Live on my Xbox 360. I can sign into my Xbox Live account but it is working on a moderate NAT connection. I have already enabled the UPnP and put in the proper port numbers. After doing that I signed into my Xbox Live on my Xbox 360 and tested my Xbox Live connection and still it says that I a moderate NAT connection. I do not know what elso to do and I would greatly appreciate step by step help from anybody who knows what they are doing. PLEASE HELP ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!
    Thank you

A known issue with Linksys routers is the NAT Type 3 or anything related to dropping of Internet connectivity during play time.  Network Address Translation (NAT) is the ability of a router or firewall to translate a public IP address to a private IP address and vice versa.  It adds security to the network by keeping the private IP addresses hidden from the outside world.

Hi, got a shiney new Homehub 5 yesterday, but when I connected my Xbox One it says the NAT is moderate.
Ive looked online, but theres nothing that relates to my issue. I tried some advice that related to the Homehub 3, set the 'always use this IP address' to yes and it didnt help.
Anybody got any pointers, as Im bad enough at COD without being limited lol.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I've just had a home hub 5 today and currently have an open NAT in both the xbox one dashboard and call of duty Ghosts.
To do this I only had to do a few things.
First of all open internet explorer in the xbox one and make sure you have already gone through smart settup and turned off parental controls.
Afterwards put the xbox in energy saving mode and switch it off.
Next open a web browser on your PC.
First go into the hub settings by typing bthomehub.home in the address bar. If that doesn't work then try typing 192.168.1.254.
Click advanced settings. Type in password if asked then click go to advanced settings.
    Click 'Home Network'
Then find the xbox one in the network diagram. By default it should be listed as Xbox-SystemOS
Where it says always use this IP address click 'Yes' then click Apply.
Next Click the Firewall tab then click port forwarding.
    Click 'Manage games and applications'
Click 'Add new game or application'
Where it says game or application name just type COD XB1
Where it says Copy an existing game or application click 'No'
Where it says protocol leave as 'Any'
In the port range setting type 3075 - 3075
leave translate to blank then click add
    Click apply then OK.
Go back to main port forwarding screen then where it says Game or application click the arrow in the drop down box and select COD XB1. In the device box select XBox- SystemOS.
Then click add then click Apply.
Switch xbox back on and try testing multiplayer connection again after testing press and hold both triggers and bumper buttons at the same time. this should open the nat on dashboard.
Also try cod and you should now have an open NAT.

  • Moderate NAT while playing Call of Duty Ghosts on ...

As the problem says, I have my NAT stuck on moderate whenever I play Ghosts.  I have run through the checks on CG/GG-NAT and used PortForward.com and I still my NAT remains on moderate.  The kicker is that it *was* Open - I'd checked advice online and people suggested putting it in a DMZ - thankfully that's easy with the Home Hub 4, so I dutifully did that and lo & behold it was showing as Open and my connection was running fantastically.  But then, last week, I powered it on and the game claims I'm on moderate and my connection nearly makes playing online pointless - which, as I went with BT due to the quality of connection I could get is frustrating.  But anyway, all through this my NAT is permanently showing as Type 2 when I check on the PS4, which appears to indicate that I am connecting via a router (which I am).
Now, I do run an Xbox 360 but it's not powered on when I play the PS4, besides which the PS4 is in a DMZ so nothing the 360 does should cause a problem, unless it's down to UPnP switching port traffic to the 360 (though I have run with ports forwarded to the PS4 AND it in a DMZ to check).  The 360 is also permanently on Open NAT when I play Call of Duty.
This all leaves me tearing my hair out (if I'd never ever managed to open the NAT I'd probably be less frustrated).  If anyone has any other suggestions on how to solve it I'd be extremely greatful, as (for the moment) it's turned my PS4 into a very nice looking desk ornament.

    Add the port '3074'
i had same issue with ghosts on my ps4 used the suggested ports supplied by portforward.com no change still moderate but after reading through many various ideas and trying different versions i ended up just adding port 3074 to what portforward.com had already given and it worked.
