WRT150N as access point troubles
Trying to use a 150n as an access point and am having troubles.
First my setup:
PC on XP, receiving wireless from my ISP through a wireless card in the PC.
Have no way to connect the incoming ISP signal directly to the 150N.
What I want to do, and have done it before with access points, is to recieve my ISP through my wireless card, send it to the 150N router via my network card, and then be able to access the 150N wireless signal throughout my home with a laptop.
I have done the searches and done the procedures to change the IP address of the router, however when I am done doing this I can no longer access the 150N through my network card. Have tried with a couple different computers and each time after the router is reconfigured it crashes the network card in the computer.
The only way to get back to the router is to press the reset button and start over.
I'm about to trash the router and go back to a standard access point of a different brand. I have never had this problem before. With today's technology there's no reason this shouldn't work with a standard router, yet all of them I see require a direct connection to a DSL or cable modem in order to work.
Help...........
Thanks
I'm trying to share the incoming connection wirelessly through the router/access point.
Incoming wireless to my desktop via wireless card, send that out through the network card to a router/access point, thereby creating my own internal wireless network which I can access with my laptops throughout the house.
The incoming wireless is a bit weak, so it does not allow a reliable connection to the laptops.
Basically the desktop will only function as a server system to the internal wireless network.
Done the same in the past, just gotta figure out how to do it with the new Linksys router.
Thanks
Tom

N86 8MP, Nokia Email 2.1.0, Access point troubles
I know that his has been an never ending saga. I just don't seem to be able to give it up.
There is a well known issue about Nokia Email 2.1.0 not being able to define group access points.
When I try to do that I am offered only particular access points or "None". This is ever so annoying as I have to manually change the access point every time I leave my home WiFi.
I am aware that there are ways around this using connection manager apps (I tried several: Auto WeFi, Easy WiFi.... ) but I was not happy with the results. One of them even disabled me from editing my access points.
It is weird that it is possible to define "Internet" as a access point for Exchange but not for normal e-mail providers.
Some people suggested to setup acces point to "Default" while setting up a new email account. However, I've never seen this option.
I think Nokia's terminology is so vague. What would be "Default" connection as opposed to "Internet"?
In addition, in "Network Destionations" it is possible to define the "Internet" group as "Default" so this will be the same thing, or...??? Am I missing something?
I stumbled upon this article that Nokia would release a patch addressing this access point issue.
I spent hours searching for the patch to no avail. Does anybody know whether that patch exists at all?
http://www.e71fanatics.com/2009/01/big-ooops-in-recent-nokia-email-version.html
Having exhausted all possibilities I was thinking I could install Nokia Messaging 9.7. Apparently this version is compatible with S60v3 unlike the Nokia Messaging 10.2.
I have no idea whether Nokia Messaging 9.7 was ever ment to be for N86 8MP but if not does anybody know whether the unsigned version could be installed instead?
I would appreciate any piece of advice or suggestion.
AlexHello!
I can't update my e-mail client via Nokia e52 internet browser.
I enter address email.nokia.com, click download link. The application Nokia Email 9.07 has downloaded. After this the suggesting message to install Nokia Email 9.07 appears. But error appears after my agreement - "An incompatible version of this product is detected, and has to be uninstalled first"
I have no possibility to uninstall detected Email, so I don't see any Email client in Application Manager.
Nokia developers, please, fix this bug as soon as possible -
Setting up a WRT150N as an Access Point.
Hello everyone! Today I bought a Linksys WRT150N router. I am trying to setup the router as a simple access point because I already have a router. My configuration is as follows: Modem > Draytek Vigor 2900V > Linksys WRT150N now my question is how to setup the linksys to work with the draytek. The Draytek has an IP address of 192.168.1.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0 Thanks in advance for the help!
I ran into a similar problem while setting up my wrt150n on my previous isp. The default ip address for the wrt150n is 192.168.1.1, see the problem? If you go into the setup for the router you can change the network address for the router to 192.168.2.1 and this should solve your problem. You can confirm with Linksys tech support that this is the problem, they were very helpful when I called them.

1142 Access Point - DHCP trouble
Hi there,
I am setting up an autonomous 1142 Access Point. The intended goal is to get it accessible though 2 SSIDs:
Private: VLAN3 (our internal data VLAN)
Guest: VLAN98 (our DMZ/Segregated VLAN)
At present, our VLAN3/internal users get DHCP addresses from x2 Windows DHCP servers. Eventually, the DMZ VLAN connections will get their IP addresses from a switch in our DMZ VLAN.
At the moment, I am able to authenticate with the Access Point through the VLAN 3 SSID but never get an IP address. I have posted the switch port config below as well as the Access Point config. I'm a newbie on these devices so any help would be greatly appreciated:
**SWITCH PORT CONFIG**
interface FastEthernet0/10
description IT Office Wireless Access Point
switchport trunk native vlan 3
switchport trunk allowed vlan 3,98
switchport mode trunk
speed 100
duplex full
spanning-tree portfast
spanning-tree bpduguard enable
**AP Config**
Attached to the post as quite wordyHi Danny,
You have a native vlan mismatch between the AP and the switch. The switchport has vlan 3 defined as the native, but it is not defined as native on your AP.
You will simply want to add the keyword native at the end of the following line under your .3 subinterfaces:
encapsulation dot1Q 3 native
On another note, to take full advantage of the 1140 series AP with 802.11n connections, you will need to use WPA2 with AES encryption:
encryption vlan x mode ciphers aes-ccm tkip
This will allow use of both WPAv1/TKIP and WPAv2/AES

Trouble converting WRT54G v6 to access point
I want to use my WRT54G (version 6) as a simple access point - I have another router that connects to the internet and which has a DHCP server. I read several other threads that said this could be done by 1) changing the WRT54G IP address to, say, 192.168.1.2; 2) disabling the DHCP server; and 3) connecting the WRT54G to my network using one of the LAN ports, not the Internet / WAN port.
I did the above and it's not working.
Home LAN: DSL modem connects to BEFSR81 router in a wiring cabinet in the garage; CAT5e runs from the BEFSR81 to several jacks around the house where I have a desktop PC and a laptop, both running Windows XP.
What I did:
1. Take WRT54G fresh out of the box and plug in power. I.e., factory defaults.
2. Connect my laptop to the WRT54G with a patch cord, connecting to a LAN port.
3. Use http://192.168.1.1 to configure the WRT54G: change IP address to 192.168.1.2; disable DHCP server; disable uPnP.
4. Disconnect laptop from WRT54G, connect WRT54G to my wired LAN, using a LAN port (not the Internet port).
5. Using the desktop computer on the LAN observe that http://192.168.1.2 (the WRT54G) is reachable and still has the above configuration, and observe that the desktop can still reach the internet.
6. Connect the laptop to a second LAN port on the WRT54G, observe that it gets an IP address from the BEFSR81, observe that the laptop can ping 192.168.1.1 (the BEFSR81) and 192.168.1.2 (the WRT54G), and can reach the internet. Looking good so far!!
7. Unplug the laptop from the WRT54G and try to connect wirelessly to the WRT54G (using the default SSID of "linksys", no security). Using the wireless software on the laptop observe the "linksys" SSID appears, so try to connect to it. Status shows "associated", then sits for a minute or so and gives up, assigning Windows XP's standard bogus client IP address 169.254.85.4, indicating did not get an IP address from DHCP, and wireless connection is no-go. Repeat several times, and also try "ipconfig /renew", all to no avail. Laptop can connect wirelessly to another access point using a different SSID, so laptop wireless stuff is known good.
8. Very sad... Any advice? Thanks Cekimball. I might have a similar problem and would like to ask the same questions.

How do I use Airport Extreme to create wired access point on wireless network?
Bit of an odd situation. I just went from cable to DSL at home and the modem moved from right by my computer to upstairs.
Trouble is, there's no real easy way to get a cable from the modem upstairs to my X-box (sans wireless connector) downstairs.
I could buy the wireless adaptor for the X-Box, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to spend any more money.
I have my airport extreme, and I was hoping I could use it to create a wired access point on the network, recieving the signal from the wireless modem upstairs and allowing me to plug in the X-Box.
Is this possible? If so, how? I've been through the config panel about a dozen times, but can't figure out what combination to set up.
Thanks. Will it work if I use the express to create the network?
Yes, providing that you have an 802.11n version of the AirPort Express and the Express has been configured to "Allow this network to be extended".
Then, the AirPort Extreme can be configured to "extend" the Express network. When you do this, the AirPort Extreme will provide more wireless coverage and the LAN Ethernet ports are enabled, so you can connect an Ethernet device.
This will not be a "normal" Ethernet connection. It will only work as well as the wireless "hop" between the Express and Extreme allow.
For best results and performance, a wired connection through the hole in the wall is always best. If you decide to do this, you will need the "new" AirPort Express with both a WAN and LAN port on the device. But, you could try wireless first to see if it will meet your goals before you reach for the tools. -
Access points settings Lumia 820
I just want to know if it is possible to have both MMS and GPRS active at the same time in windows 8 phones. That was possible with Symbian but not possible on my Lumia 820.
Hi ddt1,
Welcome to Nokia Support Discussions!
Regarding your query, the access point that you have on the Lumia 820 will be used as one. If you have both MMS and GPRS, you can use them both at the same time. You don't need to choose between the two ( 2 ) access point anymore. Your statement "not possible on my Lumia 820" means that you are having trouble with the phone. Can you tell us what exactly is happening on the phone? Is there any error happening on it? If there is, can you tell us what the error is?
We're looking forward to your response for us to further assist you. -
Using Netgear Access Point with Business Hub
Dear all,
I am trying to set up a wireless network and am using a BT Business Hub 3.0 as the router + wireless transmitter in one area and a Netgear WG602 v.4 Access Point in another area of my home.
The Business Hub and the Netgear are connected via wire (Ethernet cable), with the Netgears purpose being to boost/relay a wireless connection to an area of my home which the Business Hub wireless signal cannot reach.
I am however having trouble connecting the two devices. Ideally I would like the Netgear to be configured so that computers connected to the Business Hub seamlessly connect to the Netgear when its signal strength is strongest without the need to enter a separate wireless key.
Hopefully that is clear however if anyone needs anything clarifying please don't hesitate to ask.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
andicd
Solved!
Go to Solution.Thanks,
But the two units arn't plug and play are they? How do I go about paring the two units? I have accessed the Netgears IP settings, do these need to be changed in order to make it compatible to my network?
I am following this guide - http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/WG602v4_IG_04June07.pdf
I am currently at 2b however am unsure what these settings for my network should be. -
Having trouble connecting my Canon MX 870 Printer wirelessly to my MacBook Pro.
The instructions ask for me to enter the "access point" from the router (I use Time Machine).
Right now, it's set to "My Network", but that won't work any more. What is the "access point"?
We just had satellite tv installed. Could that be interfering?
Any help would be appreciated.
d2allenLaPastenague,
I appreciate your help. Now I understand a little more about Time Capsule, and what an access point is.
I tried your suggestion of connecting via usb to my computer and re-installing the software, etc. That did not help.
What did help was calling Cannon's technical support. Even though my printer is 2+ yrs old, a really smart guy walked me through a rather lengthy process to get my printer working wirelessly again.
I told him we had our satellite tv worked on recently (the tech messed with my router to allow streaming movies). The Cannon tech told me that definitely was the source of the problem. So, beware of that.
Thanks again! -

Having Issues with E1000 as an Access Point setup - Please Help
Quick background - Using an E2000 as my main router for a DSL connection (using an ISP provided Zyxel 660HW modem with wireless disabled if that matters). I have an E1000 that I want to setup as a LAN to LAN connection to the E2000 at the far end of the house and two floors down to extend my network.
I am pretty network saavy and thought this would be a snap. But I am running into trouble and hoping someone can assist.
Here are the steps I took:
1. I ran a CAT 5 connection down to the basement where the E1000 is to be setup.
2. I hard reset the E1000 to factory defaults
3. I connected my notebook to the E1000 via a LAN port. At this stage the E1000 is NOT on the network
4. I configured the E1000 with an IP of 192.168.1.2 - my main router (E2000) is set to 192.168.1.1 and the IP ranges start at .100 so this should present no conflicts
5. I disabled DHCP
6. I disabled NAT
7. I saved settings and rebooted router
8. I removed connection to notebook and plugged in the CAT 5 run from the E2000 - LAN port 1 on both (no WAN/Internet port used)
At this stage I expected the E1000 to act as an Access Point but it is not functioning properly. The first thing I notice is that the E1000 that should now be the AP is broadcasting the router name (something like Cisco 54653) even though this is not a broadcast SSID but only the router name. That is odd, I believe.
I have tried rebooting both the E2000 and E1000 along with the modem, no luck. I have tried different IPs for the E1000 just in case but again no luck, the wireless is not extended.
Any advice or guidance? Am I doing something wrong?
Any help is appreciated.
Solved!
Go to Solution. It sounds like you have configured the E1000 properly, but you didn't describe how you have configured the Zyxel and E2000.
Do you have A or B ?
A. Zyxel set to full bridge mode. Then connect Zyxel to E2000's internet port and configure E2000 for PPPoE internet connection type (and DHCP server enabled and NAT enabled). Change MTU to manual on E2000 and enter 1492. And then connect your E1000 as you described. Internet connection type on E1000 is AutoconfigDHCP.
B. Zyxel is configured as modem/router (DHCP server enabled and NAT enabled). Then connect Zyxel to E2000's internet port. E2000 is configured as router (DHCP server is enabled and NAT is enabled) and local IP address is 192.168.2.1. Internet connection type on E2000 would be AutoconfigDHCP. E1000 is configured as you described except local ip address is 192.168.2.2. Internet connection type on E1000 is AutoconfigDHCP.

Z 10 doesn't see WiFi access points
My Z 10 doesn't see some WiFi access points eg at the Apple Store.
dgriffin1 wrote:
I'm going back to the beginning.
Got a Z10 for Christmas. Like it a lot. One problem is that it doesn't see some WiFi access points, particularly one at an Apple store in Troy, Mi and 2 Apple stores in Southern Ontario, where I live. I bought the phone at Staples. Use Speakout from 7 - 11 stores in Canada. Help from Staples was to replace the phone. Speakout will not support phones they don't sell. Speakout rents bandwidth from Rogers and Rogers has no interest in helping.
Blackberry customer service has changed a lot since I bought the playbook, some years ago. I accessed help via Twitter. They had me go through the trouble shooter at http://docs.blackberry.com/en/smartphone_users/deliverables/48934/rok1377705513159.jsp#rok1377705513... with no success. Then they suggested I access their phone support, which costs $50 with no promise of success. They suggest provider pay the $50. As above, not much chance of this.
Then I found this forum. Thanks for the suggestions. Based on them, I tried opening the browser. No connection.
I learned how to install Android apps and installed Wifi Manager and WiFi Analyzer. Returned to the Apple store yesterday. Neither WiFi Manager or WiFi Analyzer sees the Apple router. Ipod touch, Ipad, Android phone etc. see it with no problems.
Suggestions?
Could be a Radio problem, you could wait for the OS 10.3 upgrade coming out shortly. -
I have an N96 with S60 r3 fp2. It supports "destinations" (ie access point groups) as well as the concept of a "default" access point (group).
Only "new" apps use these capabilities. The internal imap client seems to be ok with default, but "nokia messaging" is not and will only allow a specific AP to be selected.
Since I have trouble with 3G/GSM at work I roam onto WIFI for other apps. NOkia messaging needs to do the same.
Ideas? This works for the E71: for the time being a workaround for the access point problem:
I set my SmartConnect connection (you can only download this from the Download icon on your phone) group as the default APN, I have the client using Wifi if available and the cellular network if not. This MUST be configured at initial setup, ie when you install Nokia Messaging, change it from "default" to the SmartConnect access point group. -
1200 access point dropping connections
I have a 1231G access point running c1200-k9w7-mx.123-2.JA it will randomly drop connects during the day. If I look in the logs I see the following occur just before the link drops.
%LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to down
%LINK-5-CHANGED: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to reset
%LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to up
Any Ideas?Hi!
It seems to me that I obtained the same issues with AP1200.
10 AP have been installed for 10 days in 5 different enterprises.
And in 6 cases after changing some parameters of RF Interface the all clients dropped the signal.
This trouble was solved very simple.
I turned off and turned on RF Interface again.
After that AP1200 began to work properly.
So they have still worked without any troubles after many times of power failures.
If you have any results or suggestions, you will be able to write me on E-mail:

Is my aironet 1100 access point dead?
Hello,
I purchased a second hand cisco aironet access point on Ebay and I am having trouble getting into the configuration program. I have reset the device back to factory defaults and I get green led's when I plug it in. I have it connected to a pc running win xp via an ethernet patch cable. I have assigned 10.0.0.2/24 to my pc and when I ping the access point I am getting over 75% packet loss. The web browser will bring up the login box after a minute but after that nothing. Any suggestions? Is it dead?
With Regards,
Aaron McQuaidAaron,
Did you get this resolved?
I have the exact same problem. I am using an AIR-AP1121G and I can't see the AP anywhere. I can find it on my firewall sometimes, but sometimes the IP Address changes and sometimes it disappears completely.
I am pretty new to this type of AP. We have one at work I love, but this is my first one I am configuring.
TIA
