WRT160N Internet cutting out every 10-20 sec

I just got a brand new WRT160N, I have 3 computers hardwired to the router and one laptop on wifi. The 3 computers hardwired to the router have problems keeping the internet connected. Every 10-20 seconds the internet cuts out, then comes back. However the laptop has no problem at all, internet works fine and never cuts out.
I got the new fimware, so the router is updated. Does the router not support a weird connection?

Before you do that I would check to see if your router needs to go backwards on its firmware. Check the Linksys firmware help section.
Some router’s new firmware is incompatible with some computer configurations and you may need a older firmware. I have to use an older firmware with my home network.

• Internet cuts out for 30 secs with powerline adapter PLSK400

I recently just bought a powerline starter kit (PLSK 400) and I plugged one adapter into the router and into the electrical socket. (which is up stairs). I plugged in my other adapter downstairs in my room and it is hooked up to my PC and Playstation.
The only problem is that my internet cuts out every 20 mins for about 30 secs. This gets annoying cause I play games a lot on my desktop. Any reason why this may be happening?

Hi paperstreet, to change channels you will have to access the PLW400 setup page first.
Here's how to access it: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=c68890fa41c343b7be3bb8853a73c502_Accessing_the_web...

• Internet cuts out opening new tab

Hi every time I open a new tab in Firefox the internet cuts out for a minute or so, any ideas why?

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

• Internet cuts out almost every five minutes

I have been noticing that the DSL light on my modem keeps cutting out. This problem began on Monday, June 23 and has been happening during peak hours every night since. I did try resetting both the modem and router to no avail. Any idea on how to fix this so that the Internet stops cutting out intermittently?

Are the drop-outs also associated with slow speeds? You might be suffering from a congestion issue that's rearing it's ugly head in a different way than what's normally seen. This is more likely to happen if you're on a remote terminal with a lot of customers feeding out of it.
If it's only happening at night, also see if it happens when the street lamps start to come on in your area. Weather, animals, or a bad street lamp could have started causing issues with your DSL at night as well.
Lastly, consider at least checking your phone for noise or static. When you kill the dial tone, the line must be absolutely clear. If not, you'll want to do your best to troubleshoot that, since it could also be related to the DSL dropping out.

• Internet Cutting Out

I don't know why I haven't brought this up yet, but this has been happening since day 1 (of the PS4's release.) My internet will just randomly cut out and back in every once in a while. It's extrememly sporadic and some days it'll be just fine, others I can't go 20 minutes without it doing this. This isn't that big of a problem on most games, but on my personal favorite, Warframe, if I'm in a mission when this happens, that's it. Mission failed. I have to start over. The worst thing about it is that plenty of the missions last a LOT longer than 20 minutes, so essentially, I have to get extrememly lucky to even completely most of this game. Does anyone know how to fix this, because, as I've said, it's been plaguing me since day 1. Also, it's not a problem with my internet as this only happens on my PS4.

while using wifi you have to take into consideration how far away from the modem you are what could be interrupting the signal ( microwave, washing machine, multiple walls ) make sure the modem is not tucked into a corner and if you or someone else is downloading from the network while you are connected from a distant wireless connection you are basically screwed you need to use an ethernet cable to boost and definately stop constant connection loss.Yeah true, my Hoover's connected via WiFi and on the odd accassion it goes out the back door and hoovers the lawn........bloody thing

• How can I update from itunes 3.1.2 to latest version? It cuts out every time I try to update.

I currently have software version 3.1.2 every time I log on with my iphone 3gs, I am unable to update to latest version. It takes and age , sometimes 2 hrs and then cuts out saying ' time has run out' or something to that effect. I use windows XP. I do have quite an old computer. Someone has suggested I remove Itunes and then reload. I am rather nervous about that, in fear of losing everything!
Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi there, thanks for your response,
Yes it is IOS I am referring to.
I am running version 10 of Itunes.
The model of Iphone i have is 3G - MC131B - 16gb (the old Iphone) which is running on 3.1.2
When I connect the iphone to itunes, under Version, it says there is a newer version of Iphone software (version 5.1). Click Update. I do this and then the message that comes up every time I try to upload and update is:
'There was a problem downloading the software for the iphone 'xxx' . The network connection timed out' this is often after a few hours or sometimes less than an hour.
Should I remove Itunes and reinstall?
I am trying to change networks and they ask that you make sure you have the latest software.
Thanks

• Internet cutting out - relentless

Hi there,
I have had a consistent problem with macbook, it was bought in 2007, and the internet is so unreliable on my computer, its not do with the router, network etc, Its totally to do with the computer. I've tried everything, i cant think of what could make the internet connection so temperamental, sometimes the airport reception will just cut out, sometimes the webpage wont come up.
PLEASE HELP!

Beroniousmonk; you can install this yourself. Very easy.
Replaced it myself with a BroadCom. Works flawlessly. You don't have to pay $100.

• Internet cutting out. Wireless channel.

I've been having problems with my internet cutting in and out on my macbook. I've had it just under a year and these problems only started just a month ago. There's nothing wrong with the internet connection because my iMac and 2 other laptops in the house, ps3, phones wifi still all work fine. I took it too the Apple Store twice. The first time they rest the internet and delted all the internets i had ever been on, this made it worse. The second time they replaced the airport card. However, im still having these problems.
I had a similar if not exactly the same problem with my 2008 iMac a few years back. The Guy at the genius bar installed a program called 'Ap Grapher' and changed the wireless channel which made the internet work completly fine again on my iMac. I'm thinking my macbook might have a similar problem? However when i explained this too the people at the genius bar they looked and me like i was talking a different language and took no notice. I might be wrong, i dont know.
I'm wondering if someone can explain to me how change the Channel and which channel i should change it too. AP Grapher is not working on my macbook.
Or if anyone can think of anything else it can be?
Cheers

for changing the channels - i usually go to my router to do that.
not sure who makes your router but the basic address to get into it are:
192.168.1.1 or 192.168.01 - it all depends on the brand of your router.
now, i suggest you not try it in case you don't really know where to go.
however, if you feel competent enough to do so, it should be under the wireless section in your router.
channel usually defaults at 7 and you can either go up or down until you get a perfect connection.
again, please do not try this unless you know how to get around it and not blame me if something goes wrong.
good luck...

• All audio on iphone 4s cuts out, every 10 seconds on every apps then keeps playing.

I have tried all the apps on my phone, and every 10 seconds or so it will cut out the audio for about 1 second, then come back in while the track is still playing. like its pausing it real quick and starting it again, except that it doesnt start back where the audio cut out, it just keeps going. Does this on music player, pandora and every single app on my phone that I have tried. Nothing new was installed on the phone, I have tried cleaning out all ports, doing a hard reset, plugging in and unplugging headphones. I have tried closing all apps and reopening them, and turing on and off the phone. switching between silent mode and messing with volume doesnt help. On pandora every time it happens, the volume level bar at the bottom pops up. all other apps there is no visual sign it is happening. it never pauses and audio comes back after a split second. No new music or anything, has worked fine for almost a year now, just started today. Side note, it plays ringtones from calls just fine, but if i listen to them in the sounds section it still cuts out. iphone 4s model a1387

One thing that helped was getting a toothbrush and scrubbing the dock connector on the phone. I scrubbed the connector and used compressed air for about 1/2 hour till the connector looked much cleaner. An Apple employee told me that the pins on the phone had a little corrosion and sand. The problem hasn't gone away completely, but has been significantly reduced. I'm going to hold out until my contract expires after which time I'll switch to an iPhone5 (or newer) or Android phone.

• Internet cuts out when rtorrent started

I'm having a big problem with rtorrent and my internet connection. I just moved into a new apartment with a new router and a different ISP. I was having a problem getting the any connection for awhile. I could connect to the router, check that the WAN connection was up, ping, do a traceroute, dns seemed operational. Pretty much everything but actually load a page in any of my browsers on my main pc, the browsers on my laptop, or my roommate's computer.
After experimenting for awhile, I discovered that rtorrent was the culprit. Whenever I start it, the connection immediately cuts out. I'm thinking there are too many connections being made or something along those lines. The problem is, I'm not sure what I need to change. This same configuration worked at my last place, so I don't really know what the problem could be. Any help?
