WRT160n not sharing between computers

My router allows both my laptop and desktop to connect to the internet, but I can not share files or for that matter even connect the two together. I am trying to set them up for gaming but they don't "see" each other. I have tried using the USB method of connecting, but keep getting an error. I have disabled Norton and Windows firewall but that did not change anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You need to set up File and Print Sharing for both computers.  Go here.

  • ITunes Library shared between computers?

I have an iMac (OSX Lion) with two user accounts that are both sharing the same iTunes Library.  We now have a Macbook Air with the same user accounts.  The Macbook Air obviously does not have the same hard drive space and I therefore did not choose to migrate the library to the Air...What is the best way for each user to access the shared iTunes folder from the iMac?  I would like to do this while on the same LAN as well as remotely if possible.
I assume that simply setting iTunes up for "Sharing" will handle the local area question, but what about while we are away from home?  I assume that iCloud with iTunes Match would be the only answer?

Rented movies cannot be shared between computers. They can only exist on a single device at a time, and can only be moved from a computer to a player such as an iPod, iPhone or Apple TV. You cannot move a rental from one computer to another.
And yes, actually they do say that, in the Rentals FAQ, among other places.

  • Windows 8.1 ICS with file sharing between computers

Can someone help me get ICS working with file sharing between two computers (directly connected), without enabling file sharing on the internet network (on a public untrusted network)?  Is this possible?  I have set up ICS between two Windows 8.1
machines, but i can only get file sharing to work in one direction (from machine B to machine A)... UNLESS I turn on file sharing/discovery with the entire network from machine A (which i do not want to do).  I am not sure this exact question has been
asked, so my apologies if it has.
    Here is my configuration.
Machine A: win 8.1 (up to date), two NICs:  a wireless card (connected to internet) and a gigabit NIC (connected to machine B)
Machine B: win 8.1 (up to date), one NIC, a gigabit card connected to machine A
    What i did:
On Machine A:  I enabled ICS on machine A's wireless card, which automatically assigned the IP address 192.168.137.1 to the second NIC
On Machine B:DHCP was enabled so it automatically got an ip address (192.168.137.62), internet sharing works fine (i can open a browser, get email, etc.)
On Machine B: I enabled "Find devices and content" on the network device
On Machine A: Going into "view network settings" it lists my wireless network and the gigabit NIC.  The wireless under 'Wi-Fi' says 'Connected', and i can click on this and I have the option to turn on "Find devices and content".
On the wifi connection, i leave 'Find devices and content' turned OFF (so i don't discover computers on the wireless network, which is a public network).  My gigabit NIC shows up as "unidentified network"/"Limited".
When i click on the gigabit NIC, it does NOT give me an option to turn on "Find devices and content", it just shows some properties of the NIC (manufacturer, description, driver, mac address) and button that says "Copy".  On
the gigabit connection's properties (which is listed as "unidentified network/limited"), the option for 'Find devices and content' is missing.
On Machine A: I open a file browser and type '\\192.168.137.62' and it works correctly, i can see the computer and move files around.
On Machine B: It doesn't work.  I open a file browser and type in "\\192.168.137.1", and nothing happens.
If i enable 'Find devices and content' on machine A's wifi connection, everything works, but now everyone on the public network can see my computer.
Question:  How can i enable file sharing between machine A and machine B ONLY?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

The whole point of public networks is that they are unsafe, so file sharing is not permitted for your protection.
If you have a network which you know is safe, the way to get file sharing working is to change your security policy so that it is set to private, not public. You do this from the local security policy (on the ICS computer).

  • Sharing between computers

I have a problem with Sharing with my MacBook Pro. I originally set up sharing between my iMac and my MacBook. Until just over a month ago everything worked well.
Now I cannot get them to ‘talk’ even though my iMac recognizes that the MBP exists and tries to share but the MBP does not even ‘see’ the iMac.
I can see that others have had similar problems but none of the proposed solutions for those problems that I have tried have worked (so far) and even the Genius service in the Mac store in Las Vegas has drawn a blank. Has anyone a suggestion as to what might have gone wrong?
    DAW

Had a feeling that might have been the case but didn't want to post an over-long initial request. Here goes:
My MBP is running version OS X 10.5.8 but I can't recall exactly what my iMac's is (I am away from home) both both computers are only a year old have latest software updates loaded.
I use it at home with a wireless router for to allow the two computers to link to the internet and if I am away from the iMac it provides me an with the ability to access my files.
The fault gradually appeared from some month or so ago as the MacBook Pro became reluctant to share with the iMac (until then it had worked superbly). It often required a couple of of attempts before linking up; however, if I was working on the iMac, I could link it to the MBP with no problems. Gradually the ability to link ether way became more problematic until neither would link to the other (although occasionally I could ‘Screen Share’ the MBP on the iMac). Also the MBP did not recognize the existence of any potentially shareable computers and finally even the ‘Shared’ label in the Finder menu disappeared.
I am now visiting my son and have found our Macs cannot see each other either. However, his Time Capsule does appear as a Share option on my Finder menu.
More curious is that when I visited the local Apple Store to try and resolve the problem, my machine could see all the other Computers in the store and the experts their could find no errors with my Sharing options in System Preferences.
As I type I have my son's TC shared but can see neither of his computers even though they are on, in use and they can see each other!

  • Stored passwords not syncing between computers.

I'm trying to use Firefox to Syncronize data between computers. It was working, but somewhere along the way it has stopped. I now have three computers, of which I'm trying to have two of them synced together. I thought that the issue was account related, so I deleted my original account & had to create a new one (with a different e-mail address - I'd like to change that back if possible). Anyhow, now it seems as if bookmarks are synced OK, but my saved passwords are not. Given that I can't tell what the status is of a sync, it is hard for me to tell where the process is.
So, I have one computer (a Macbook) with passwords on it that I am syncing and I have another (a new Dell Laptop), that I would like to have updated.
What do I need to do to get my passwords synchronized?
    Thank you,
    Paul

Make sure that you are forcing syncing by pressing Sync Now in your computers and allow some time (several minutes) to have all the information sent to the server and down from the server. If this still doesn't work, follow the steps in this blogpost to create a bug:
    https://philikon.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/how-to-file-a-good-sync-bug/
This would be really helpful. I've seen other people having issues with passwords but I'm unable to replicate it.

  • I can see my husbands library and he can see mine but we can not transfer between computers, I can see my husbands library and he can see mine but we can not transfer between computers

I can see and play my husbands lirary and he can see and play mine but we can't transfer between computers.  How can we do that

Add another e-mail account to your messages, so people could reach you on that e-mail from messages. As soon as you are online (if you have wifi only iPad) you are able to send and receive messages. i.e. your son can send you a messages from his iPhone addressing it to your (that additional) e-mail address.

  • Can I setup a folder on the time capsule for sharing between computers not on my network?

I'm wanting to be able to share files between family members that don't live in the same household. How would I set up a single folder on my Time Capsule so everyone can use it as a shared network drive between Windows and Mac systems, with security?

No.  Your Mac will mirror the folders on icloud.com.

  • Bluetooth file sharing between computers will not connect with my iPad 2.  Any help will be nice

I have been trying to send files through bluetooth and cannot get the ipad to receive.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  Can it be fixed?

    That depends.
If you have Pages on your iPad and Pages on your computer they should both support iCloud. Setting up iCloud and turning it on for Pages will allow Pages documents to be sync to both devices simultaneously.
I do this all the time. Changes I make on my iPad are automatically synced to my iPhone and computer.

  • Music (only) not sharing between 2 macs?

I'll see if I can explain this properly.
In our household we have 2 Macs one an iMac i7, 27" from Mid 2010 and a MacBook Pro Core2Duo from 2006 an iPod Touch 2nd Gen, iPod Touch 3rd Gen and an iPad 2, both computers are set up on OS X 10.7.3 and both are running iTunes 10.6 (The issue iI'll described happened as well in 10.5.3).
The iPod 3rd Gen and iPad run iOS 5 (the iPod touch 2nd Gen is too old to run anthing past iOS4 and is kinda irrelivent in this issue so ignore that).
The iMac and iPod Tocuh are set up with my Apple ID for iTunes and iCloud etc and the iPad and the Macbook Pro are set up for my father.
Today I decided to set up my fathers equipment to use Home Sharing to allow him to stream content from the MacbookPro to the iPad
I was trying to explain the progession from the earlier form of Sharing libraries to the newer Home Sharing. Explaining that the old Sharing was iTunes on Mac to Mac (or PC) and just allowed streaming. Where as newer home sharing allowed Mac to Mac File transfer and/or Streaming and Mac to iOS Streaming  as long as they were on the same Apple ID and Home sharing was turned on on all desired devices. So I went to show him the older Streaming from my computer to his to demo the difference. Then set up Home Sharing on his devices and show the difference. Except when I did this Music from my computer would not stream to his computer. It did stream to my ipod via home share. And I could Stream Movies and TV shows to his computer via the old sharing system.
I then tried to sign both computers in with the same account for home share and again Movies and TV shows would stream from computer to computer but music would not, yet it would stream everything to the iPad or iPod.
All the artwork shows up and everything just no steaming music.
All that happens when you try to stream music from one computer to the other is you get "Opening URL Connecting" for a few mins then it just sits there at 0:00 with the speaker icon next to the song and no music and no error message, sometimes it just jumps straight to speaker icon without the "Opening URL" dialog.
Its the Same issue in both directions. I tried Streaming from his to mine and vica versa to no avail.
Both computers have firewall set to off.
We're on a pretty standard Netgear WiFi Network with  WPA password.
So here is a summery of what works and what doesn't
    Orignal Sharing system
Mac to Mac,  Music Streaming, Does NOT works
Mac to Mac,  Video Streaming,  WORKS
    New Home Sharing
Mac to Mac, Music Streaming, Does NOT work
Mac to Mac, Video Streaming,  WORKS
Mac to iPod, Music Streaming, WORKS
Mac to iPad, Music Streaming, WORKS
Mac to iPod, Video Streaming, WORKS
Mac to iPad, Video Streaming, WORKS
Anyone know why its only the Music Mac to Mac not working?

All Fixed Seems like my fathers VirusBarrier had blocked some incoming trafic from my computers IP addrss

I want to share music between 2 computers/ 2 iphones, and 2 different accounts (my wife's and mine).  I have an old computer my wife uses and a new one that I use.  I have music on both, but the old music is on one and the new music is on the other. • Audiobooks - sharing between computers on same account

    Hey guys,
I have various audiobooks that are in my home laptop. I'd love to listen to them at work, on my work computer, like i do with my music. But for some reason they do not seem to want to sync. I'm even struggling to get them to sync to my iphone. Even though i have the "sync audiobooks" box ticked in the phone menu on itunes.
    Can someone help?
    Thanks

    Hi,
In iChat to Add a Screen Name as an Account.
If iChat has been launched before open it and go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts.
Click the + Button lower left of the list (It should at lest have Bonjour in it).
This opens a pane with a drop down as the top item.
This drop down has 5 choices in iChat 4 and above.
Choosing the AIM one is for AIM Registered names (At their Site)
If you registered in the form "username" then enter that.
As it is possible to Register as "username@email address" then you have to enter it as you registered the name.
However adding @Mac.com or a MobileMe name in those choices has the software add the Relevant @mac.com or @me.com bits and you only have to type the username part.
    Adding Buddies.
With your Buddy list Logged in go to the + button at the Bottom of the Buddy List.
In the options select Add Buddy.
In iChat 5 type the name of the Buddy as you were told it (for @mac.com ones that means the whole [email protected] Same for MobileMe names ).
iChat 4 had a drop down at this point to chose the type of Account the Buddy has.
If you have iChat 4 then chose the relevant Account type and then type in the bits (username only) in the text field.
See here for Pic and more http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/versions/ichatvers4/HowtoAddBuddy.html
It is this pane that is different between the two versions
That Account name line does not have the Drop down in iChat 5.
SO the iMac gets the Account set up as the MobileMe name and Adds the AIM Buddy
The Laptop Adds the AIM name as Account and the MobileMe name as Buddy.
    Hope that helps.
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • Session not shared between multiple wars, with no cookies

I posted an earlier query on multiple wars in the same application.
Actually session is maintained and getting shared on the server when
    browser supports cookies.
When Browser does not support cookies i have the following problem,
    a) Without cookies URL's(href tags) work fine because they are bieng
    rewritten.
    b) The first form i call always has hidden tags with session id value
    and it works fine
    c) But in all susequent forms there is no hidden session id.(My forms
    are all JSP pages.).
    My questiona are
    1) under what situations does the server add session id hidden tags in
    html form.
2)And how do I get them created automatically when browser does not
    support cookies.
    3) And why are the hidden tags being set for the first request. (I read
in previous posts that is because the server does not know if browser
supports cookies for first time) How does it know the second time. What
    html header gives this info.

    >
    1) under what situations does the server add session id hidden tags in
html form. The webconnector should rewrite the sessionid whenever the browser might
not support cookies. (And it has configured to allow URL re-writing.)
Obviously you are having a problem with this, but based on the information
you are providing I don't have any insight on why yet. Works for me. Try
opening a support ticket and/or posting some more information.

2)And how do I get them created automatically when browser does not

doesn't know if the browser supports cookies.
The second request it knows that cookies are supported because the browser
successfully has returned the cookie it sent the first time.

  • RSS Feed Counts not updating between computers via iCloud

MobileMe used to sync my read counts for my RSS feeds in Safari. If I read something on my iMac, my mbair shows that article as read. This no longer seems to work with iCloud. Has anyone found a work around? I like checking RSS feeds via Safari, but without this feature I might have to go another route.

Having this issue, too, and not really able to find anything out on the interwebs -- is this supposed to be a feature of iCloud? It certainly should be, and I really, really miss my read/unread status being synced between machines like it was with MobileMe.

  • Transferring SOME music (not all) between computers?

I know there are a million posts about transferring music, but I haven't seen the answer to this one in my searches:
When I bought my MBP, I transferred the G4's iTunes library over so all my songs were on both computers--no problem. Now, 5 months later, I have added 300 songs to my MBP and about 250 different songs to my G4. (definitely impulse buying and poor planning on my part!)
I really want to get all the songs on both computers. Everything I've read talks about transferring entire libraries, but since I have about 4200 songs, I don't want to deal with the duplicates issue. I know I can make a playlist with the new songs in it, but from there I'm not sure how to proceed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Another option would be to just add the whole libraries together and then use a script to delete the duplicates. If you google doug's applescripts you will find some scripts that will search through your library and delete files that have a -1 or a 1 at the end (which is what happens when a duplicate file is added to your library. If you remember which ones you have downloadd recently burning a cd would probably be easier but yeah, just another option.
