WRT160N - Signal is very weak...

Hi ...I am unfortunately unhappy WRT160N (v1.53) USER...
My problem is the signal strenght...I live in small flat...
My room (where the router is located) is about 12 meters away from my ps3...Its just door-corridor-door further..
But the signal is about 20%!!...And its impossible to work with such a signal quality!.
I have tried all channels combination....as mixed b/g, mixed wide, mixed standard etc....Sometimes it has helped for 10 minutes...but the signal never exceed 70%...After that it always start to lower step by step...and when I close any door..signal is about 20-30% lower...
On some channels Signal starts to change a lot in very short amount of time...It looks sth like that: 40% for 2 minutes...then 60% for 10 sec...100% for 0,5 second then 20% and 60%...and it goes like that all the time
I dunno what to do, because I have also checked wifi signal strenght with my PDA....When I stay next to router (about 1 meter away), signal sometimes isnt full...Its very good...But **bleep**..It should be FULL shouldnt it?
The best part is that my friend who have 2 times bigger flat, bought cheap WIFI usb card for about 5$...and he has nearly 100% signal strenght all over the apartament
HELP...

Are you getting the same signal strength on the wireless computer..?Some time it is also depend on the wireless adapter you are using on the computers or the devices.
Try the following settings on the router...On the setup page, click on subtab Advance Wireless Settings under Wireless tab and Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on save settings... Under Security tab, uncheck the option "Filter Anonymous Internet Requests" and click on save settings.
Also reduce the MTU to 1364 on the router and the PS3 and power cycle the complete network and check the result. If these settings doesn't helps then,upgrade/reflash the router's firmware and reconfigure the router from scratch.

    Based on what?
"When Apple rolled out iOS 6.1, its first major update to iOS 6, yesterday, it introduced a series of bug fixes, software tweaks for iTunes and Siri and also added LTE support - but none of that was any use to the disconnected and discontented sufferers of a particular iPhone software flaw: greyed-out Wi-Fi."

I was hoping it is just a software issue, but...
Saw may web sites discussing this same issue; many discussions point to hardware problems but there is no official word from Apple about it, which is disapointing !??  Few discussions point to software problem with solutions based on try and error, and they don't seem to work.

  • Wifi signal stays very weak

Wifi on the second floor of my house is a bit weak, so when I bought a new Time Capsule I thought: 'let's place it on the second floor. I have a free ethetnet-slot there, so why not?'.
But: sitting 8 feet from the capsule I still have the same weak signal. How is that possible?
(I'm getting a bit frustrated of the problems with wifi. It's not exactly the easy, beautiful solution providers promise us.)
    Thanks!

Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the Time Capsule (TC) if it is connected at this time, but leave the TC powered on for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the back of the TC for 8-10 seconds, then release
Allow a full minute for the TC to restart to a slow, blinking amber light status
Connect the Ethernet cable to the WAN "O" port on the TC
On the iPad home screen, tap Settings
    Tap WiFi
Wait a few seconds, then tap on Time Capsule under the heading of Set UP a New AirPort Base Station
The utility will open up and take a minute to analyze the network, then suggest that the TC be set up to create a new network
Network Name......Type in the exact name of your existing wireless network
Base Station..........Type in a name that you want to call the TC
Password..............Type in the password of your existing wireless network
    Verify the password again
    Tap Next
The utility will set up everything for you. When you see the message of Setup Complete, tap Done
There should be a green light on the TC and it should be operating correctly at this point
Temporarily, turn off the WiFi on the Pad, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on
The iPad should now be connected to the wireless signal from the TC
If the iMac is close to the TC, turn on the WiFi on the iMac and it should connect to the TC with a good signal.
    Post back on your progress.

  • The Audio Output Signal is very weak and distorted. The Buil-In Speakers work ok. Whatcould be the problem???

    Hello,
I spilled some liquid on my desk close to the Laptop. I proceeded immidiately to remove the MacBook Pro from the spillage site and dried the outside. The MacBook was not in use at the time and the lid was closed. Two hours later my wife used the computer and initially it functioned alright, however, after about 20 minutes it all of a sudden died and could not be re-started. Later that evening I tried a few more times to re-start and was partially sucessful for a few seconds at the time. The next day I opened the Back Cover and noticed the dried residue of the spillage on the battery cover as well as on the motherboard.
I proceeded very cautiously to remove the stains and followed up with a hairdryer to remove any possible residue of moisture.
After that, the MacBook Pro funtioned normally again, with the exception that the analogue audio output no longer supports an earphone, or any outside audio amplifier or TV set. I must add that there is some presence of audio when I increase the volume setting to high, but the bass sounds are very distorted.
My question is, do I have to exchange the "Motherboard" in order to resolve this problem?
I would very much appreciate any suggestions you may have!
    Regards,
    Hank

Take it back to whoever "fixed" it. Apple won't touch it now.

  • Airport signal becomes very weak while windows partition internet is fast.

I just recently bought a macbook about a month ago. A couple days later I ran boot camp and boot windows vista on the macbook. What I've noticed throughout the past few weeks is that internet explorer on the windows partition is much faster and it can receive a better connection throughout my house. There are virtually no problems with the signal. When I switch back to the mac operating system the internet connection signal is only about halfway, or like two bars. The speed has also greatly decreased. I've tried everything when it comes to changing the DNS serves and it doesn't work.
    Help would be greatly appreciated!

This has seemed to be a problem with some MBPs but I also have friends that sometimes complain of the same problems on powerbooks.
Sometimes you have to remember that it's website dependent - when you're having the problem, if you haven't already, try opening up another website in another tab to see if there's any improvement.
You could also try Firefox, as many people rave that it's faster then safari.
Unfortunately that's all I can offer you on this subject, but i'm interested in seeing the responses!

  • No mobile signal or very weak signal in Clio, MI

I have had my IPhone 5s now for some time and in the area I live i generally have full LTE coverage. But last couple days the phone has barley been on LTE and today I'm lucky to get 1x and 1 dot of signal strength on the IPhone. My girlfriend that lives with me too has the same phone and has the same issues.

epnorthey lets get you connected! You are located in our extended 4G coverage so the signal will fluctuate, however you shouldn't be without service. Are you having difficulty indoors and outdoors?

  • Very weak signal

    Hello
I have just moved, and in last home the airport express sent a strong signal to my iBook and my G5.
Now that I have moved (and I added the connection to my speakers) the signal is very weak (but working) on my G5 but full signal on the iBook.
I checked Airport Admin and increased robustness also I don't think it's other items that may cause interference.
The Express is now on the same shelf as my TV, DVD, stereo, but I don't think that should matter should it?
    Please help

It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing you from getting a good clean signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like KisMAC, MacStumbler, iStumbler, or IPNetMonitorX to determine potential areas of interference...and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them.

  • Very weak WLAN signal on Satellite Pro L10

    Hi,
I have a Sat Pro L10 that came without a mini pci wireless card so I bought and installed one and fitted internal antenna behind the screen. When I am in the same room as the router I have a brilliant connection but as soon as I leave the room I lose it all together. The router is fine as other people have no problem connecting to it. The card I bought is made by Agere but came labelled as Toshiba, I have updated the driver to the newest I could find which is june 2002.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated as I'm sick of dragging this wire around with me.

    Hi
I think there is no much to do. I think the environment has a strong influence on the Wlan signal receiving. Its the same issue like yours.
My brother uses the Wlan at home and the signal is strong enough if he is in the same room but in other rooms the signal is very weak. But at my home he can receives the WLan signals without any problems. The signal is strong also if he is in different rooms
I think the room walls are the reason for the weak signal.
But you could check the Wlan card properties in the device manager. There you could change some settings in the Advanced tab. For example disable the power saving, etc

  • I bought my iPhone 4 open line in Vancouver, Canada last week for use here in my home base in Bangkok, Thailand.  But when I tried using my Thai sim, I get a very weak signal, if not a weak signal, then a no service status.  What do I do?

I bought my iPhone 4 open line in Vancouver, Canada last week for use here in my home base in Bangkok, Thailand.  But when I tried using my Thai sim, I get a very weak signal, if not a weak signal, then a no service status.  I also have very weak wifi reception.  What do I do?
    I already tried the following:
    a. Turned the phone off and then on.
    b. Checked all wifi connections – no problem given that all our laptops and desktops can connect seamlessly.
    c. I tried restoring the phone to original factory settings via itunes
    d. Tried resetting the phone.
    e.     Tried different microsims from all networks
    f. However, all methods failed given that the network reception is very weak and often reflects – “no service”.  And with regards to the wifi reception It has difficulty in reading even the signal right in front of the wifi router.
I went to two Apple resellers here in Bangkok and requested that they please look at my Iphone and have it serviced.  I was frustrated when they said that given that I bought my phone in Canada, they are not able to support me and should instead try to contact the Apple store in Canada.
I went to apple.ca website and went to the expresslane support and I was said to register and callback.  Tried calling the 1800 number but given that I was in Thailand I had difficulty getting a connection.

  • Airport Express has very weak signal even to the next room

I am wondering why my airport express has a weak signal. The signal to the next room(about 4 or 5 meters away), is so weak that you can only see one or 2 lines from the graphic at the internet connect. My base station has the last firmware from apple. Has anybody else experiencing this problem or knows what could be wrong?
    Mac mini G4 1.25, iMac G5 2.0, MacBook 2.0, iPod 20Gb, iPod nano 4Gb, iPod 30Gb   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I have tried changing channels, I have tried using interference robustness but nothing seems to work. Isn't it so wierd thought that in the same room within 1 meter distance, the signal becomes from strong to weak, to zero?? The funny part also is that when i change channel for a few seconds the signal is very strong until it drops to zero. When i try another wireless device doesn't seem to have this problem but only with airport express base.

  • E90 Very weak WiFi signal

My E90 has a VERY weak WiFi signal, and in places I regularly use a 9500 and my laptop with no problem, my E90 simply will not work e.g. from first floor to ground floor. If I move closer to the Wireless router, then it is fine on both Email and Web.
So it seems purely that the strength on E90 is far weaker than 9500.
    Has anyone else found this?
Is there any way to alter signal strength in the various WiFi settings?
Or is this yet another shortcoming of E90 over 9500?

Yes I already altered Tx power settings. Thanks for suggestion. Makes no difference.
It really seems this E90 just has a vastly lower power WiFi rating than my 9500.
It is very tedious to be unable to connect even within one's own home and frankly renders the phone totally useless, quite apart from all the other problems well documented on here.
I think I can see why so many are up for sale on Ebay.
Does anyone at Nokia read these discussion pages and does anyone care that their products seem to fall short in SO MANY aspects?!
That's right, it seems no one reads these discussion.
However, if u have ur problem solved, pls advise

  • Airport Extreme (5 Gen) suddenly very weak Wifi signal

Hello, everyone.  I have a 5th generation Airport Extreme that was working fine until a few days ago.  My power had gone out, and since then I am getting a very weak Wifi signal.  The network still appears and connects on all of my devices.  However, it is dreadfully slow (0.3 MB/s per Speedtest.net), whereas before it was 50 MB/s.  I have tried resetting to factory settings and opening up the option to 5GHz.  The 5 GHz wireless network works just fine on my iMac.  It doesn't show up as an option on my iPhone, though, and that's what's really bugging me.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and can help me out.  Of course, my phone support expired a few months ago and now they want $19 for a tech call.  Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Reset to factory again.
Setup again using all short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. If you were doing this make sure you use different names. Empty all the old names from the clients so they start over with fresh clean setup for wifi.
Use a different name for 5ghz.
Use fixed channels.. try 1, 6, 11 for 2.4ghz and try 36, and 150 for 5ghz.. around about.. exact channel is not such a big thing for 5ghz.
Check the link speed and make sure it is full speed if you are in the same room as the AE.
Test by copying a file on the local lan.. rather than testing to internet which could be a totally unrelated issue.
Test by using ethernet only on a computer plugged into the AE to see if the internet link has gone slow.
