WRT160N SLOW CONNECTION SPEED

I have slow connect speed when using the WRT160N. I have tried every thing, done dianogstics on connection, router, modem, thru three diffeant software, norton, windows, system machinics. when ising the router some days the speed is amost like using dial up
I use XP, on both a laptop desk top, up to date drivers, both cna use wifi or direct connection by cat 5e, 3 m of ram, a wimax internet server,,,,, (company called Bridge Maxx)
But when I stop using the router and connect directly to the modem no problem works fine,,,,, not sure what to do........ just need my wifi back,,,,so i cna work,

Whats the Version number of your Router, If you have having version2 router, then there is an knows issue with Version2 Router. Downgrading to Build 8 is generally accepted to correct these issues, however Linksys have indicated to several people they do not have the build 8 firmware to give to end users.
This is ONLY for WRT160N V2 routers. This firmware will not work on WRT160N V1.
You can find it at http://audipages.com/router/
Follow the dowload and firmware downgrade instructions on that page.
Once you upgrade the firmware of your router, you need to Reset your Router and Re-Configure all the settings on it back again. Once you do the settings on your router i think this should solve your problem.

  • Help : very slow connection speed with AEBS and iMac

I connect to the internet using my newly purchased AEBS. I have a MacBook and an 24" iMac ( purchased in Nov 2007). My iMac showed very slow connecting speed of <1 MB/s download; with my MacBook placed just 1 foot from my iMac, the MacBook showed an amazing download speed of 20MB/s. If i connect the iMac to the AEBS using ethernet cable, it can get a very high speed.
    So, where is the problem??
I am new to wireless, please help. I use iMac more than my MacBook at home.
Actually, i did not touch the any of the advance setting of the AEBS.

You know, I am experiencing the same problem. My wife's PC and iPhone are blazing fast, but my MacBook is accessing the internet at about dial-up speeds. Very frustrating and I haven't yet found the culprit.
    Anyone???

  • Slow connection speed imac but not macbook

Slow connection speed on my imac 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo running 10.6.8, I get download of 15mbs and upload of 9mbs but on my macbook pro 2.8ghz intel core i7 on the same desk I am getting 33mbs and 10mbs!
Can anyone help me out on this, thanks in advance.

The two key numbers here are: 1) Transmit Rate: 59 which is the current maximum bandwidth of the wireless connection in Mbps, and 2) The MCS Index: 6 which indicates that the iMac's connection to the BT Home Hub wireless is only using a single spatial steam. Forget the techo mumbo jumbo, your iMac is much more capable than that.
You should expect a Transmit rate closer to 130 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz radio. At least this explains the poorer performance of the iMac. I would venture to say that if you temporarily connected the iMac to the BT using an Ethernet connection the iMac would equal or exceed the MacBook Pro's bandwidth performance.
Has this always been an issue or something that has just recently started happening?

  • Im getting slower Connection speeds

Im getting slower connection speeds then what i ordered i got the 15mps and i only get 10 ?

It looks like you're right at the edge of the 10Mbps service limit for your copper line, as your margins are low and the line speed is incorrect.
Do you have access to a NID? If so, can you plug your modem into your NID's test jack and pull up the new statistics it shows? The NID can often times be found outside on the side/rear of your home, near your electrical panel/meter or on a pole near the street (uncommon for the last one).

I would really appreciate any advice you have to offer! (P.s Connection time is so low because I recently connected the router to the test socket to see if there was a problem with my internal wiring)
I've been experiencing a slow connection speed (even though the router is connected to the master socket) much slower than with my previous provider and a very intermittent service. The broadband connection seems to drop out every time the landline is in use and when using the landline you can hear a lot of static/crackling in the background.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Have you tried another known working telephone into that test socket without an ADSL fiter.
If you have done all that you will need to report to your comms provider, if its BT Retail you will need to call them on 0800 800 151 or 0330 123 4151 from a mobile phone.
They will mention about charges but as long as you have done as suggested and you have not damaged any of the incoming wiring there "should" be no charge. when you phone do NOT mention broadband once any noise on your line is solved then your broadband will improve

    Hi,
I've left the router up for several days now with no decrease in connection speed:
    5. ADSL uptime:
    7 days, 00:01:00
    6. Bandwidth:
    448 / 1984
I've tried the quiet-line test with a corded phone and get a constant buzz.
The next thing I've tried is to disconnect the ADSL filter faceplate from the line-box and have plugged a different ADSL filter directly into the line-box. The quiet-line test still yields a buzz, albeit slightly quieter.
Now that I've reset the router (turned it off whilst swapping cables around), I now have the following (with a different ADSL filter):
    00:00:08, 23 Jul.
( 65.750000) DSL noise margin: 10.00 dB upstream, 9.00 dB downstream

  • WDS slow connection speed

I have a New Mac Pro Tower connected to an AX b/g compatible WDS network and it gets 10k kbps download speeds.
The Problem is my iMac G5 connected to the same network has an extremely slow download speed of 583 kbps?
Anyone have a clue as to why iMac's internet connection speed is so much slower?

I have had the same problem since november 2007:
I connected an old airport extreme basestation and a brand new one through WDS.
it took me a while getting the WDS to be faultless. (the encryption caused issues). So with both in WEP mode I lost the last error messages and both devices tell me all is fine, but it isn't.
I have NO access to the Internet via the router. I have no access to anything on the other side. The same goes when I hoop up in the other side then I have no access to devices (IP-Cam, printers, routers, Mac's, PC's...).
    What is wrong with WDS?
I removed the old aiport extreme and used only a TimeCapsule and the new Airport Extreme. Nothing changed.
The Internet is extremely slow and gives time outs.
Finally I pulled a 60m cable to the TimeCapsule

  • WRT54G3G-ST very slow connection speeds

    Hi,
I recently purchased a wrt54g3g-st router for mobile broadband and I have had some problems with the connection speeds. I have called linksys support but they were no help. I am using a PC-5740 broadband card which works perfectly fine in laptops by itself. When I am connected through the router its shows that I have 54.0 Mps speed but the pages load about as slow as dial-up speeds
Thanks for any help you can give me on this problem

if loading the pages is the only problem then try adjusting the mtu settings on the router ui to 1392 ....

  • Super Slow Connection speed

Hi all, with any luck someone here will be able to offer some wisdom!
Until recently my broadband has been faultless (well not bad anyway), in the last week or so it seems to have nosedived in terms of performance, and I am struggling to work out why. I have been through India, and I have my modem plugged into the test port of the master socket, here is wat things look like in the Hub Manager:
    Line state
    Connected
    Connection time
    0 days, 0:53:56
    Downstream
    8,126 Kbps
    Upstream

    0/38
    Type
    PPPoA
    Modulation
    ITU-T G.992.5
    Latency type
    Interleaved
    Noise margin (Down/Up)
    20.3 dB / 32.9 dB
    Line attenuation (Down/Up)
    10.0 dB / 4.2 dB
    Output power (Down/Up)
    0.0 dBm / 12.0 dBm
    Loss of Framing (Local)
    34
    Loss of Signal (Local)
    3
    Loss of Power (Local)
    0
    FEC Errors (Down/Up)

    0 / 2147480000
    HEC Errors (Down/Up)
    nil / 0
    Error Seconds (Local)
    3
The three errors are me pulling the cable out to rest the conenction. The massive FEC / CRC errors are a bug I think. Does anyone know about Loss of Framing and what 0dBm output power are?
I ran the BT speedtest and got some truly terrible results, which said that my profile was 7000kbps, good, and my download was 146kbps, bad.
Anyone know what might be causing my super slow connection? I disconnected all computers barring my laptop in case somethign was secretly thrashing the service, but it didnt help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark.

I have similar problems. My connection was fine until about a week ago, when I started getting noise on my phone.
This has now been fixed, but since then, my Broadband connection speed has dropped from around 2M to 135k. I had an engineer out this morning to check what had been fixed during the first engineer visit (to fix the phone) and once he'd finished, he tested in to the socket to find that he could get 7M speeds. However, since he's been gone, I've plugged my setup back in and still get speeds of 135k.
I've tried removing phone connection so only router plugged in, I've changed filter to see if that was the issue - only things I've not yet tried because they are more hassle first off is trying another ADSL cable and/or a new router
My Hub manager shows the following, but not sure if this helpful to anyone, or if anyone can point me in the right direction of other things to try, I'd be greatly appreciative.

  • Mavericks install incomplete. No Apple installers on HD. Will I be able to upgrade to Yosemite and will it fix all that didn't install with Mavericks upgrade? Very slow connection speeds 30 hrs to download Mavericks. Tried re-install; no help/

Ever since upgrade to Mavericks I have been having problems which are too numerous to mention. I finally found a program from a UCBerkley professor called Pacifier which indicated 4000+ of 400,000+ files and folders did not install. I was unable to go further to try to fix everything because Pacifier can't find ANY Apple installers on my HD. It recommended I download the Mavericks installer without reinstalling to continue; however, after having done so (very slow connection; takes 30 hours to download) and although the installer appears in apps while downloading it disappears and NO Apple installer packages can be found on my hard drive. I tried to download Yosemite once and it indicated my system wasn't eligible for the upgrade. Its' download time was similar to Mavericks; 28+ hours.
    I am using a Macbook Pro mid-2012 version OS X 10.9.5 (13F34); Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5; Memory  4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3; Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB.
Regardless of how many files and apps I remove my memory is being eaten up to the point I can hardly do anything at all. There are no civil words for how frustrated I am. Someone please help me.
    Thanks,
    JJ

Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Very slow connection speed, after phone line probl...

My catalogue of problems starts about a month ago. The phone line developed heavy interference and my Broadband connection kept dropping. This was diagnosed as being a fault with my HH 1.5. BT duly sent me a replacement HH3 which arrived about 3 days later. I installed the new hub, changed all the wiring and the filters for the new kit that came with the hub only to discover that the interference on the phone line was now even worse. It was so bad that at times you could not even hear what was being said on the other end of the phone, so an engineer visit was arranged.
A week later a BT engineer came and checked the line, sure enough there was a second problem and all the wiring from my house to the nearest telephone pole had to be replaced.
These problems had had a catastrophic effect on my connection speed and profile (I was getting about 500 kbps both up and down stream), so I dutifully reset the hub after the engineer had finished and waited for the line to stabilise.
14 days later and the upload speed had doubled, but the download speed is still unchanged at 570 kbps, about half the current upload speed. The line was a bit temperamental for the first few days but I have been able to maintain a solid connection for the last 4 days, current stats are as follows:

Between 3pm and 4pm on 18 July when I was out of the house NetworX showed 243MB use.
This morning similar unexplained usage of 239MB.
Does this extract from my event log give any clues?

    Hi,
I've left the router up for several days now with no decrease in connection speed:
    00:00:08, 23 Jul.
( 65.680000) DSL line rate: 448 Kbps upstream, 1952 Kbps downstream
    5. ADSL uptime:
    0 days, 00:02:53
    6. Bandwidth:
    448 / 1952

  • WRT54G Very Slow connection speeds away from the router

I have installed my router in the living room. The connection speed is perfect in the living and dinning area , as we move away from the router to the inner rooms (bedrooms) the signal strength remains fine (very good) but slowly the internet speed drops untill it stops. The signal strenght still shows as very good. Doing a "repair" - switch off and "switch on" -  on the laptops wirelss adapter brings back the connection speed for a while before it falls off again.
Any suggestions for this prob please!!!

Make sure that the firmware on the router is up to date. If not then download the Firmware from the Linksys web site. Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router. Got o Administration tab and click on firmware upgrade sub tab. Upgrade the latest firmware on the router.
After upgrading the firmware, it is recommended that you should reset the router and reconfigure the router.
