WRT160N V2 NOT CONNECTING

hello,
I recently moved and got a new modem. now my wireless router isnt working. does anyone know what i can do to set it up again? Ive reinstalled the software and set up a new network but it tells me it cant connect. thanks

Well the router configration  is all based on your internet service provider ..
So could you let us know who is your internet service provider so that we could help you with the router configration ?

  • WRT160N does not connect to the internet, i thought it was supposed to be simple to install!!!

Hello I am trying to get wirelss internet in my house, so i went out and brought a linksys wireless router WRT160N. I put in the setup cd, did everything that it said and started it up, everything that was supposed to light up did, apart from the internet which stayed red. Why can i not get the internet as i did what it told me to. also in the user guide it tells you that you dont need a modem as the gateway acts as one but i have read that you do. If you do need a modem i will be very angry as this router cost me £75. i have a modem but it is a usb modem and obviously that would mean that i would need to get a new modem as there are not any usb modems. all we want to do is get the internet how can it be so hard.
ps we have orange broadband if this helps

To able to go Online with the Linksys router your modem should be connected to the Router. As your Modem is a USB modem so it will not work with the linksys router, Either call your ISP and change your Modem which has Ethernet Port on it. If your Modem already has a Ethernet Port, Connect the ethernet cable from your Modem to Computer and check if you are able to go online or not. If not Call you ISP and check the settings of your Modem. Once you are able to go online from your modem, then you can configure your Linksys router.

  • My WRT160N does not connect to the internet.

I have 2 computers and connect wired with one and wireless with the other one.  I installed my router and plug in the internet cord from my wired PC (while that Ethernet cord is plugged in to the back of my wired PC I have Active internet on it) to the back of my router in the "internet" port.  And then I have a another Ethernet cord from the back of my router in  port "1" going to the PC. At that time my wired PC confirms that there is a physical connection however there is no internet on the wired PC any more.  As for my Wireless PC, it detect and connect to the WRT160N router however it has no internet connection.  Now if I take the Ethernet cable (that is connect from the modem to the WRT160N Router and from the router to the PC), and removed it from the router and plug it in directly to the PC (so that it will be from the modem to the PC) I will have active internet once again.

You should reset your linksys router and then, re-configure it...
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Also make sure that your computer is set to obtain IP automatically, disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer before trying to access the setup page.
Your PC should be connected to the Ethernet Port 1 of the Linksys router, your modem should be connected to the Internet port of the Linksys router...

  • WRT160N will not connect to internet unless xbox live is on

Hello, I am hoping someone here will be able to help me (countless customer service calls never helped). I bought this router less than a year ago and have always had the same problem. The only time I can connect to the internet through the router is if my son is on xbox live.  Any help in resolving this would be much appreciated as this is quite aggravating. I have also tried to access 192.168.1.1 which does work.

Who is your Internet Service Provider...?
What is the IP address you are getting on the computer wired to the router...?
Check the IP Address on the wired computer...Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection IP Address , Subnet Mask and Default Gateway...
Disable the firewall and anti-virus on the computer and try again..

  • WRT160N Dropping Wireless Connection.

Hey, I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on a problem I've been having. I just recent bought a WRT160N as an upgrade to my old D-Link DI-514, I wanted to have faster wireless speeds. My new router does have much faster speeds, but the wireless connection keeps dropping. When this happens no computers can connect through the wireless, and I have to physically powercycle the router. Sometimes it will completely freeze up and not even allow wired users to access anything. There are only two computers connected to it, and I was wondering if anybody has experienced a similar problem?
One possibility I have consired is that it cannot support the number of current connections I have open at the time, but I find that hard to beleive considering my old el cheapo router had no problem handling the same thing. Does anybody know the number of connections it can handle at once?
I'm pretty sure it's not an interference issue, I've tried lots of different channel options, and when I've seen interference problems before it wouldn't lock up the whole router.
My current configurations are as follows:
WAP2 Personal,DHCP,MAC Filters,VPN enabled, three applications port forwarded(to wirelss PC), and everything else is default.

The linksys wrt160N dropped the internet connection.........
Oftenly my WRT160N is losing connection to all wired and wireless computers in my house (2 wired, 1 wireless).
Means I cannot connect to internet
    My solution:
    - only use the linksys wrt160N as an accespoint : don't use the internet port on the router !!!
ONLY USE THE Ethernet ports (1, 2, 3, 4) for ALL your network traffic
    - disable DHCPserver on the wrt160N
The DHCP server/internetport causes the problems on the wrt160n, so the router dropped the wired/wireless internetconnection).
The DHCP server on the modem/router works good, "he is the boss in your network"  : disable the dhcp-server on the linksys wrt160N, it can conlict anymore and don't want to be the boss anymore in your network.
One DHCP-boss in your network is enought !
    Setup:
    router ip = 192.168.1.9
    DHCP server --> disabled  (don't forget !!)
    Wireless: Manual
    BASIC WIRELESS SETTING :
    network mode = Wireless-G only ( my laptop has G ... and no N)
    Networkname (SSID) = PIETJE&puk (example)
standard channel = 11 - 2.462GHZ (no conflicts with my DECTphone anymore)
    SSID broadcast = disabled
    WIRELESS MACFILTER (OPTIONAL) : ENABLED
    access restictions= permit PC's ....
    mac adres list = < wireless macadres laptop/pc >
    administration:
router password = THis&4evER (example of storng passowrd )
    (wireless)remote access = disabled

  • Hardwired PC will not connect to internet

I justpurchased the Linksys N Ultra Range Plus - WRT160N. When i connect modem to computer it works perfectly fine but when modem to router to computer it doesn't give me a working connection even though when i went through the setup disc it said that the router had connected and it shows the internet light on.. i have gone to the 192.168.1.1 but ther is no change.  It seems this is common for this router.  I will try tomorrow to get this thing working but if it fails to perform within one hour, back to the store and I get my money back.  It does connect with laptops wireless.

hey if you still come back to this site.  I found the solution.  Do not download Lela.  That is the culprit of your internet connectivity issues with hard wired pcs.  I don't know why but maybe our computers thinks of lela as a threat. I had to default my router and installed the config cd.  lela pops up.select the x button at the end of config.  Hold the windows button logo on you keyboard and hit "r" key. type "cmd" hit ok.  then in the window type "ipconfig/all"  Note your DNS server #s.  Bring this up when router is not connected.  Bring up your routers page and in the basic settup in the DNS server which is blank, type in your DNS server numbers.  Then hit save.  go back to your router page and also go to the mac address tab and disable then enable.  Hit clone my pc button and save.  There you shouldn't lose connection like before.

  • WRT610N ROUTER IS DROPPING OUT OR NOT CONNECTING TO MY NEW LAPTOP

I just bought a new HP wireless laptop and a new Linksys WRT160N wireless "N" router. I've connected the router and installed the router software to my desktop PC which is wired by the way and the internet works fine on it. I've created my SSID name and created my security key that way I'm able to set up my wireless laptop. When I turn on my laptop and click on "connect to a network" it does show my SSID name that I've created and when I try to connect it says, "Can not connect to (SSID)" after a few seconds of trying and keeps doing that.
I’ve set up my SSID for WPA2/AES security.  However, I was at one time able to connect online wirelessly and it worked like a charm even when I was far away from the router until I powered down my laptop and brought it back up again and it's giving me that same message. It's like it just works sporadically but 98% of the time it just gives me that "Can not connect" message each time.
Here are a few specs. on my new laptop that might help: I have AT&T DSL 6.0 meg. service.  My wireless card on my laptop is an Atheros 802.11 b/g/n.  Windows 7 is installed on it.
I've also reset the AT&T modem and router and started from scratch twice and still gives me the same message. I am totally lost on what to do. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

Open the linksys setup page and click on the Wireless tab...For 2.4GHz...Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to 9 and Standard Channel to 11-2.462GHz..For 5GHz....Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to159 and Standard Channel to 161-5.805GHz...Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box for both the band..Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on save settings...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings...Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 and Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • What do i do if my internet is wep and i need it to be wpa2 because my ipod touch 4th gen connects to the internet but when i click on safari or itunes it says safari cannot open the page because its not connected to the internet

what do i do if my internet is wep and i need it to be wpa2 because my ipod touch 4th gen connects to the internet but when i click on safari or itunes it says safari cannot open the page because its not connected to the internet. i have contacted apple support and they said to change from wep to wpa2 but when i change it to wpa2 and type in password and connect on my laptop it says the saved setting on this computer for the network do not match the require ments of the network

My 2nd gen works fine with WPA2 and AES encryption.
You may need to go back and start over.  Reset the router back to factory defaults, log on as the admin, set up security, DHCP, and make sure the IP address pool has enough IP addresses to lease to ALL of the computers/devices that will connect to that the router.

  • ITunes could not connect to the iTunes Store "Error Message"

I recently added iTunes 7.6 to my Windows XP operating system at the same time when I added an *Ion USB Turntable (TTUSB).* I currently have the 80G iPod with the larger video screen. I added in the supplied software of the EZ Vinyl Converter. The software reads from Gracenote and imports into iTunes okay. But now my PC cannot access the iTunes store to buy songs, read the tracks on the discs, or display new album artwork. The diagnostic read the network connectivety test, the CD/DVD drive, and iPod connectivity tests all read okay. I followed the directions on checking the network settings under the Internet Options Tool "Connections" Lan Settings and the Automatic detection and still no dice. All I get is "Make sure your network is active."

I'm seeing this error on some, but not all, of my Windows XP machines. On my personal development XP box, I see this error if iTunes is closed when I try and access iTunes U via my transfer script or Stanford's.
"iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was terminated unexpectedly. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
The errors occured in IE 7 Beta, Firefox 1.5.x, and Firefox 2 Beta. In each case, iTunes U loaded after I clicked the 'ok' button in iTunes. I did notice that in Firefox's case an additional pop-up window appeared that asked whether or not I had iTunes; when I selected that I do have itunes, it transfered me to iTunes but generated the error.
After getting these errors on my Windows XP machine, I tried it on two different lab machines running Windows XP, and didn't get the error message once -- I tried it in IE 6, Firefox 1.0.x and Firefox 1.5.x and they all worked. It even worked with IE 7 Beta and Vista Beta.
Based on this, I think the problem must lie in how Windows registered iTunes, and the handshake just isn't happening properly.

  • I need to upgrade my 10.5.1 os on my G4/1.25 (I'm having some audio-midi setup problems), but it's a machine that is not connected to the internet.  Do I have any options?  Thanks!

    Friends,
I'm having some audio-midi setup problems on my G4/1.25/10.5.1 machine.  I'm thinking that a routine OS upgrade might help.  However, this machine is not connected to the internet.  Are there any alternate methods for upgrading system software?  Thanks in advance!

OK, what you should do is download the updates on another machine and burn them to a disc.  Start at this link http://support.apple.com/downloads/#leopard for downloads and find, among other things, the 10.5.8 combo updater that works on PPC machines, plus security, QuickTime and other updates.  Going from 10.5.1 to 10.5.8, there will probably be a bunch of things that you should install.  Being off the internet with the machine, you can't have Software Update sort it out, so something might get missed, unfortunately.
My suggestion is this: if it looks like you might need a download, get it onto that disc.

  • Error message "not connected to internet" when trying to sign in to BB id with Mac laptop

I have a Mac laptop and was forced to remove the original BB Link OS when the Z10 launched.  I replaced the OS with the current one but now it doesn't allow me to use my Mac's computer name eg.  John Smith's Mac book. I can only use a single name.  I suspect that is why I'm not getting the itune's library to load.  Also, I can't sign into my BB id, I get a message that says I'm not connected to the internet.  I've taken the firewall off as I heard that was a solution with Windows but it didn't work.  Any ideas?

i have the same problem. I have window 7 pc. I had to use internet to download link so i don't understand why it is not allowing me to use link or do set up. I uninstalled my previous bb desktop driver in hopes that would help. It didn't. I appreciate any help on this forum

  • Can not connect wireless through Bootcamp Windows XP to Timecapsule?

    Any help would be appreciated.
I recently purchased an iMac with Leopard (10.5.2). Today, I used Bootcamp to install Windows XP with SP2. I created a FAT partition of 32 gigs and followed all of the steps (including installing drivers off of MAC OS installation disk 1 while on initial XP boot up).
My wireless network is on a Timecapsule and is "WPA Personal secured". The Mac OS detects the network and connects instantly, my work laptop PC detects the network and connects instantly. However, the newly installed XP detects the wireless network but will not connect. When I try to connect to the network, I receive an error message that basically states "unable to connect...". I do not even get to a screen that asks for me to enter a network key or password. When I try to connect to two other networks in the neighborhood, I at least get the network key screen.
I have gone into the Windows network tools and have tried to manually configure the connection, but I still get the same problem. I thought maybe I had "WPA2 Personal" enabled as the security setting for the network (XP does not support WPA2 out of the box) , but I have it as "WPA Personal".
Can't figure it out. I am new to Macs (about 1 month). The reason I switched was because I could run both Leopard and XP.
    Best regards,

    Solved my own problem.
    FYI
Even though my security settings on my Timecapsule are listed as "WPA Personal", my work PC Laptop kept detecting as "WPA2 Personal". I even removed all security settings from the Timecapsule and my laptop still detected as "WPA2".
I know that XP does not support WPA2 out of the box.
I hooked directly into the Timecapsule via an ethernet cable while in Windows environment. Thankfully, I was able to access the internet. I went to Microsoft and did a search for WPA2 patches for XP. Found one that allows XP wireless connection to WPA2. I installed the patch and was able to detect and connect wirelessly to Timecapsule from XP.
After two days, I have come to the firm believe (don't know the technical reasons why) that Timecapsule is a WPA2 device and that the XP patch is the only way to create initial connectivity. It is sort of ironic that although I wanted to connect wirelessly, I had to first connect via an ethernet hard connection.
Solve one problem, left with another. I have a Epson all-in-one scanner, printer, copier hooked to the Timecapsule. My iMac picks it up fine wirelessly but I am getting nothing on XP. Hopefully it is a simple driver download issue.
