Wrt160n v2 router firmware broken

Hi,
I just upgraded my router firmware to the latest version as found here: http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WRT160N/download Installing this version was really a bad idea though... My mac's could not connect anymore, after a lot of searching I finally downgraded like described here: http://audipages.com/router/. This worked but the connection is kind of unstable now.. I can not put the router in Wireless N only because then Mac's and Windows computer can not connect anymore.
Another thing is that the localized Dutch version of the site has a completely different firmware version of the same router: http://www.linksysbycisco.com/NL/nl/support/WRT160N/download....
So obvious question is: What is the preffered and recommended router firmware version for the WRT160N v2.
Thanks in advance,
Lars

The first thing is that it is not advisable to downgrade the firmware. It is recommended that to always use the firmware based on the model and the version no of the device..Area-wise the firmware does not differ a lot, however it is always preferred to use the firmware area-wise for the particular unit due to some limitation.
It is advisable to reset the router after upgrading the firmware. So reset the router for 35 seconds, power cycle the router and reconfigure the router from scratch.

  • Having lag problems on the XBOX 360 - connecting to WRT160N wireless router.

Having lag problems when playing on the XBOX 360(wireless connection) after we installed our new WRT160N wireless router. Looking for ideals on how to fix this performance problem?
    Cable Conpany: Comcast
    Modem Model: zoom
    Wireless Router Model: Linksys WRT160N

    A few more thoughts:
    - Changing the channel settings does NOT achieve anything. I manually tried every setting with no success.
    - Changing the encryption settings did not help. I tried "open", WEP and WPA and none of them work.
    - Even when this problem shows up, the xbox360 wireless adapter successfully finds and associates with the wireless network. It even manages to read data from the network - it just does it VERY SLOWLY and disconnects often. This causes extreme lag in xbox live games, which shows up as unpredictable play and disconnects from games.
    - The fact that G-only mode works fine pretty much proves that this problem can be fixed with a firmware change. The xbox360 wireless adapter and the WRT160N can definately talk to each other using 802.11g successfully so there must be some issue with negotiating the correct version of 802.11x.
    - I've considered trying a third-party firmware, such as DD-WRT to see if this fixes the problem. Has anyone tried this and if so what happened?
If you are seeing this problem, please reply to this thread and say so. If enough people respond perhaps Linksys will fix the problem. Even if you're not registered with this board, registering is very quick and easy so don't let that deter you.
    Thanks

  • Hard wired PC losing internet connection with WRT160N V2 Router

I'm new to routers and I just added a WRT160N (V2) router.  The wireless connection through my laptop is great. However, I have 1 PC physically connected to the router. The internet connection is sporadic on this PC. I have high speed "wireless" internet service and sometimes you click on the internet or check e-mail and there is no internet connection. It seems to be after the PC has sat idle for a while. When you click the internet, the PC icon on the router does not even blink - its like the PC and router are not talking. If it does connect, the connection is great. Any help would be appreciated!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is a known issue with intermittent connectivity and the Build 11 firmware for the WRT160N V2. Build 11 is the current firmware on the Linksys site. Check to see if you have Build 11 if your router is a V2.
Downgrading to Build 8 is generally accepted to correct these issues, however Linksys have indicated to several people they do not have the build 8 firmware to give to end users.
This is ONLY for WRT160N V2 routers. This firware will not work on WRT160N V1.
You can find it at http://audipages.com/router/
Follow the dowload and firmware downgrade instructions on that page.

  • New Safari 2.0.3 displays some Router Firmware pages as HTML Source text

      Hello Safari users and gurus.
I installed the new 10.4.4 Combo Updater yesterday, preceded and followed by permissions repairs and other maintenance, including cleaning Safari Caches. Safari 2.0.3 works.
My problem: 10.4.4's new Safari 2.0.3 displays HTML source text after I click "Save" from within my Linksys (latest firmware) router's web based administration pages that worked correctly with the previous version of Safari.
When I check or change my router settings, the initial router settings pages appear as they did with the previous version of Safari. However, with 10.4.4's new Safari 2.0.3, as soon as I click "Save" to attempt to save a changed router setting, the confirming info from the router is displayed as HTML source code instead of the expected HTML page display.
If I wait for the router lights to indicate activity has ceased and then reload the router's opening admin address, the page opens again normally, and I can navigate to other pages and see that the changes have been saved. However, any click on any "Save" changes button in the router's pages delivers another page of HTML source text.
I will watch for future router firmware updates to see whether the issue is resolved from the Linksys side.
Does anyone have any suggestions for improvement now? All assistance will be appreciated.
    EZ Jim

Thanks glefand. As you suggested, I tried my old iBook G3 that is still running 10.3.9, and it works fine for me.
My G5 DP also worked normally up through OS X 10.4.3. My problem only began after I installed the 10.4.4 update. I think the Safari update included with the 10.4.4 update is what is causing the issue with the firmware pages on my Linksys router.
Hopefully a future router firmware update (or Safari update?) will restore proper operation. If not, I will continue to reload from the router's Start page. The need to work around this glitch is annoying, but the actual function of my router setup works without problem, even though the pages do not display properly.
Thanks again for your helpful suggestion,
    Jim

  • Problem Upgrading Router Firmware on MI424WR-GEN3I

Having trouble updating my router firmware.  Current version says:  40.21.18.  Status says: OK.  However, it says this below:
" Internet Version:  Old Wireless Broadband Router version 40.21.10.3 found?
Does this mean anything?  I'm wondering if the firmware is still not upgraded.  Any thoughts on this?  Did my firmware upgrade?

Your configuration indicates you do indeed have the latest firmware version installed.  The Internet version is what is available to restore to a previous version, should you ever have the need to do so.
You can see how this would work (without actually activating it) by clicking on Advanced > Firmware Restore.  It will show you what your current version is and the previous version that's avialable to restore to.
Once you've taken a look, click on Cancel  to avoid actually reverting to the older version.

  • IMAC 27" model + WRT160N V3 Router + PC XP Professional OS + D-Link DCM-202

    Good day guys,
I have two computers, the iMAC and PC XP Professional OS. I have a broadband cable modem, D-Link DCM-202 and a Router WRT160N V3 Router. I'm facing a very big problem for both computers.
It seems that my browsers on both computers will stop loading pages frequently. I have to refresh or close the browser and load the page again for them to work. However, sometimes it doesn't load or the same problem will occur again.
    Things/steps that I have taken:
    1) I tried clearing Cache and every single temporary file from the computers but the problem keeps coming up
    2) Tried closing the Browsers and load the pages again but it doesn't work sometimes.
    3) Combine both of the above step and I will still face the same problem.
I really hope someone can help me as this issue is getting on my nerves. In addition, these are the browsers I used for both computers:
iMAC: Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome
    Windows: Firefox

Sounds like an issue with your ISP's DNS servers. You can try using Google's DSN.

  • Router Firmware Bug

Folks, please be sure to check that ROUTER FIRMWARE is up to date.
After much time and effort with tech support on Verizon, Apple and AT&T, found that the iPhone wouldn't connect to my home WiFi, despite having my MacBook Pro connected wirelessly to the same router (DL 264/Verizon).
In my third follow up call to the Apple store---after being on the phone with Apple help for a longish hour or so---it was suggested that I check with my internet provider (Verizon) to see if my router's firmware was up to date.
I'll leave out the enormous PITA experienced and cut to the solution: it worked!
thought someone might like to know
macbookpro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   iphone

ActionTec tech support replied almost immediately to my e-mail.  Their response is that the router allows MAC filtering to be configured only from a wired connection, not a wireless one.  I doubted this, since I've had no trouble in the past configuring MAC filtering from a wireless connection, and even now I can do so as long as I don't try to put more than one MAC address in the ACL.  However, we dutifully hauled a computer down to the basement and reconfigured it with a wired Ethernet connection to the Verizon router.  Lo and behold, in this configuration we could put two MAC addresses in the ACL without problem.  Being on a wired connection does make a difference!
So, based on my experience, it seems that MAC filtering can be turned on or off and a single MAC address can be placed in the ACL from a wireless connection, but to put more than one MAC address in the ACL requires a wired connection to the router.  This seems weird to me, but it's hard for me to imagine them doing this by accident.  They must have designed it this way on purpose.
Anyway, I now have the MAC authentication configuration back the way I want it.  I should be OK until the next time FIOS fails and Verizon makes me do a factory reset on the router before they'll believe the problem is at their end.
And I'll look into WPa, since the consensus of those posting here is that it's stronger than WEP, which is what I've been using.

  • Updating router firmware

I have been having issues with my iPad staying connected to the Internet. Often it will show that I am connected and I will have 2-3 "bars" in my signal, but I get an error saying I can't connect to the Internet.
I spoke with the Genius Bar at the Apple Store and they told me I need to update my router firmware. My router is a DLink (I believe) and I do not use a Mac, and he said that often the routers need to be updated to work with iPads. (I have the same problem with my iTouch).
I am not sure how to update the firmware. I want to ensure I don't screw anything up as I use my computer to remote into my office as well.
    Any thoughts? Thanks!!!

Just a question, is the wireless connection dropping, or just the internet? If the signal is dropping (and there are no other wireless computers or if there are, are doing the same thing), cordless phones have been known to contribute to problems. (http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/tutorials/article.php/2191241/Interference-from-Cordl ess-Phones.htm) If its just the iPad, and there are other wireless computers working find, its the renew lease thats screwing with it, in which case you would update the firmware (or can manually go into the router and force renew lease on it).

  • WRT160N N Router extremely slow connection

i just bought a WRT160N N Router.  i have a 12 mb/s connection.  i bought it through best buy and the sales rep told me it could handle that speed no problem.  well i got home and got it set up, not even close to being able to handle that speed.  i know you lose a little bit of speed by going to a router verse plugging the ethernet cable in direct but this is rediculous.  pages are loading extremely slow, and when i torrent something when i was plugged in direct i was averaging about 1.3 mb/s.  with the router which is sitting 6 feet from me at the moment im getting 80 kb/s at best.  was i told wrong by the sales rep?  am i doing something wrong?
im running a Dell 1535 Studio Laptop with Vista.  thank you for your time.  any help is great.

What is the model no of the Wireless adapter you are using on the Laptop..?
Are you getting the same problem on other computer....?

  • MAC Authentication Bug in router firmware version 20.19.8

Since having FIOS installed a little more than a year ago, I have used MAC address authentication (filtering) in the FIOS router on my premises to limit wireless access to only the two computers in my home.  While trying to diagnose an Internet access problem on January 17, Verizon tech support updated the router firmware to version 20.19.8 (Jul 2 2011).  Since that time, I haven't been able to add more than one MAC address to the ACL (list of accepted MAC addresses).  The configuration page appears to put two or three addresses in the list when I ask it to, but if I revisit the list after applying the change, only the first address in the list is still there.
I tried to report this to Verizon tech support, but was told that MAC authentication is an "advanced" feature and is supported only for customers who buy "expert" tech support.  I'm not anxious to pay extra for the privilege of telling Verizon that they have a bug.  Anybody have any suggestions?  Is there a way I can report this bug to Verizon without being stonewalled by tech support?

  • WRT160N Router Firmware - Download page incorrect

I am trying to check if the firmware on my new WRT160N was the latest (I have 1.02.4-CA). I found to the Linksys Canada support page for the WRT160N (http://www-ca.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Content_C1&childpagename=CAen%2FLayout&cid=1153781111465&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=1146512181N01) On that page I selected Downloads, then specified WRT160N and clicked on the link for "Firmware" which took me to http://www-ca.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Download_C2&childpagename=CAen%2FLayout&cid=1153781261058&packedargs=sku%3D1175241703067&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=6105812181B01 There are 3 firmware versions on that page and the newest one (5/14/2008) actually downloads the 4.9.8101 version of the MAC install wizard! The next newest version (1/8/2008, 1.02.2) on that page downloads the file WRT160N_1.02.2_US_code.bin which I sure don't think is a good idea to use over my Canadian firmware! I guess the website folks need to fix that. It doesn't look like there is any update to the Canadian 1.02.4-CA firmware version on my router?

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!! or else you could try downloading the firmware through ftp.linksys.com & you should be able to resolve the issue.

  • SPA514G: BLA, re-SUBSCRIBE record-route is broken (firmware bug?)

    I have a BLF configured on SPA514G as "fnc=blf+sd+cp;sub=201@$proxy".
The proxy forwards SUBSCRIBE to our presence server.

  • Help - WRT54GL Router Firmware

ok. here is what happened. I bought this brand new WRT54GL router months ago to replace my old router and decided to upgrade the firmware. After  updating the firmware per the instructions, I can no longer view the url http://192.168.1.1 to update or change my profile.. all I get is a jumbled mess. I might have downloaded the wrong firmware file or did something.  Today, my old router finally died. so.. i really need to fix my Linksys WRT54GL otherwise i'm doomed!!!  Please help.
Here is what I did so far...
I tried to reset the router to factory defaults press the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. this didn't work
I made sure i downloaded the correct firmware this time using this site(http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/GetArticle.aspx?docid=f86931aadf06450495507691acdf0d87_3703.xml&pid=80...) but since my config page is broken, i cannot upload the .bin file into my router.
I only know how to flash the firmware through web browser when I googled reflash the firmware.
    Any help is appreciated!!!!

    Hi.
First make sure you can identify the correct version number of your router. There are two. Refer to this, http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/WRT54GL. Now based o n the version, download the correct firmware.
To re-flash your firmware, you may use this tool, http://www.idealinternet.co.uk/linksys/linksys-tftp.exe

  • WRT160N V3 Original Firmware

i have this problem, Network magic updates my router's firmware and i notice that the access restriction tab had gone. should i downgrade the firmware from its originat state and where can i get the firmware with access restriction feature? please help.. thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

i really not sure what version of firmware originally installed with this router but the first time i set it up, it has access restriction tab/menu that i can create internet access policy for different group of computers, i can set schedules (day and time) in accessing the internet but when network magic did some update, no more access restriction tab on the menu, i saw this firmware version 3.0.02 after the 1st firmware upgrade, looking for luck to get that access restriction tab back, i download and installed the latest firmware version 3.0.03 build 3 but no success. and i also notice that my internet connection  slows down after the 1st and 2nd update. sir, can you help me locate the original firmware on this device? by the way, the bottom panel shows that this router has model number WRT160N V3 but the box indicated that it is WRT160N-SG. thanks for the reply sir, hope you can help me again.

  • Sky Router firmware upgraded - can no longer login with credentials

I usually have no problems accessing my sky router (white Sky Hub with ADSL) via the page 192.168.0.1 however I tried to login the other day and was greeted with an updated looking summary screen - all very nice I thought, let's go and explore! However when I put in the usual details - username: admin, password: sky I get prompted to input my details again which is very odd. Now I know that I am the only one who accesses the router in this way as my flatmate has never logged in and probably never will so I can only assume the firmware upgrade has caused the password/username to change. I logged in the other week and the password is saved in my browser so I am sure I am not making any mistake here. I have tried in chrome and IE just in case but I have the same issue in both. Has the new firmware brought a new default password? I cannot find any reference to this anywhere on this site so it seems unlikely. I would rather not reset my router to default settings as I have devices with static IP addresses and port forwarding setup that will take me some time to reconfigure. I don't think there is any feature to backup the config unless you are actually logged in to the router but would love to be worng about this. I am guessing I will have to bite the bullet and reset to factory defaults but would welcome any help or suggestions if possible?

After review the events of the morning.....
I normally keep my routers in the basement where my eth jacks all hub.  High on a shelf, I got reasonable coverage on 2.4Ghz even on the second floor.  I went to this router for the Dual mode, but found the 5Ghz didn't make it sufficiently well to the second floor.  So it was moved to the first floor, on a counter.  That morning the router started acting up a bit, not bringing an iphone online.  It was looked at - and a couple of post cards that had been placed on top, removed.  Air flow was not blocked around the sides in any way - just a few pieces of card stock on top to interfere with convection off the top.
    1.  There is no way to look at temperature - maybe the device doesn't even know its own temp.
    2.  There is no fan that I can discern.  Clearly, creating a device that is designed to sit on a flat surface in a home environment ought to take into consideration "normal impediments to air flow".   Temp controlled fans is simple, well proven tech.
    3.  This design is small, has TWO radios, sits horizonal (thus is going to have lousy convection) - seems to me an engineer ought to have given more thought to not only providing the user with easy to obtain data (temp), alternative methods (fan/vertical mounting) and/or self-protection (to hot, I'm shutting down rather than corrupt my database).
Having spent millions on Cisco gear in my career, I would have hoped that Cisco+Linksys would have a little more Cisco and a little less Linksys.
