Wrt160n v2 router

I have the above router and I'm trying to add a laptop to it, but when I go thru the process on my desktop screen, Linksys only allows me to choose wired device, not wireless. My whole system was reset recently by Cox and this has been the problem since that point. Do I need to uninstall the router and then re-install it? Thanks.

If your desktop has active internet connection through the router you just need to change the Wireless Settings on the router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your desktop. In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab
-Here select manual configuratioon...Wireless Network mode should be mixed
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network.
- Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the standard channel to 11
- And wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on save
settings.
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the `
Network Identifier.
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security.
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bits.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything.
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters) and click on save settings.
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network. Now try if you could see the Wireless Network Name/SSID and try to connect...
Click on Advanced Wireless
settings>>Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation
Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now goto your laptop and go to the control panel and open network connections,
right click on wireless network connection and click on View Available Wireless Networks and try to connect to your network...
Now it will give you the opportunity to put the network/wep key, make sure you enter the correct network key and confirm it...
It will connect...

  • IMAC 27" model + WRT160N V3 Router + PC XP Professional OS + D-Link DCM-202

    Good day guys,
I have two computers, the iMAC and PC XP Professional OS. I have a broadband cable modem, D-Link DCM-202 and a Router WRT160N V3 Router. I'm facing a very big problem for both computers.
It seems that my browsers on both computers will stop loading pages frequently. I have to refresh or close the browser and load the page again for them to work. However, sometimes it doesn't load or the same problem will occur again.
    Things/steps that I have taken:
    1) I tried clearing Cache and every single temporary file from the computers but the problem keeps coming up
    2) Tried closing the Browsers and load the pages again but it doesn't work sometimes.
    3) Combine both of the above step and I will still face the same problem.
I really hope someone can help me as this issue is getting on my nerves. In addition, these are the browsers I used for both computers:
iMAC: Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome
    Windows: Firefox

Sounds like an issue with your ISP's DNS servers. You can try using Google's DSN.

  • WRT160N N Router extremely slow connection

i just bought a WRT160N N Router.  i have a 12 mb/s connection.  i bought it through best buy and the sales rep told me it could handle that speed no problem.  well i got home and got it set up, not even close to being able to handle that speed.  i know you lose a little bit of speed by going to a router verse plugging the ethernet cable in direct but this is rediculous.  pages are loading extremely slow, and when i torrent something when i was plugged in direct i was averaging about 1.3 mb/s.  with the router which is sitting 6 feet from me at the moment im getting 80 kb/s at best.  was i told wrong by the sales rep?  am i doing something wrong?
im running a Dell 1535 Studio Laptop with Vista.  thank you for your time.  any help is great.

What is the model no of the Wireless adapter you are using on the Laptop..?
Are you getting the same problem on other computer....?
Try to readjust the settings on the router...Open the setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar..Under the setup tab, change the MTU to 1350 and click on save settings..Under the Wireless tab,Change the Channel Width to 20MHz only and Channel to 11.Provide a unique name to SSID and click on save settings...Under the Advanced Wireless Settings...Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...Under the Security tab...Uncheck Filter Anonymous Internet Requests and click on Save Settings...

  • Having lag problems on the XBOX 360 - connecting to WRT160N wireless router.

Having lag problems when playing on the XBOX 360(wireless connection) after we installed our new WRT160N wireless router. Looking for ideals on how to fix this performance problem?
    Cable Conpany: Comcast
    Modem Model: zoom
    Wireless Router Model: Linksys WRT160N

    A few more thoughts:
    - Changing the channel settings does NOT achieve anything. I manually tried every setting with no success.
    - Changing the encryption settings did not help. I tried "open", WEP and WPA and none of them work.
    - Even when this problem shows up, the xbox360 wireless adapter successfully finds and associates with the wireless network. It even manages to read data from the network - it just does it VERY SLOWLY and disconnects often. This causes extreme lag in xbox live games, which shows up as unpredictable play and disconnects from games.
    - The fact that G-only mode works fine pretty much proves that this problem can be fixed with a firmware change. The xbox360 wireless adapter and the WRT160N can definately talk to each other using 802.11g successfully so there must be some issue with negotiating the correct version of 802.11x.
    - I've considered trying a third-party firmware, such as DD-WRT to see if this fixes the problem. Has anyone tried this and if so what happened?
If you are seeing this problem, please reply to this thread and say so. If enough people respond perhaps Linksys will fix the problem. Even if you're not registered with this board, registering is very quick and easy so don't let that deter you.
    Thanks

  • Hard wired PC losing internet connection with WRT160N V2 Router

I'm new to routers and I just added a WRT160N (V2) router.  The wireless connection through my laptop is great. However, I have 1 PC physically connected to the router. The internet connection is sporadic on this PC. I have high speed "wireless" internet service and sometimes you click on the internet or check e-mail and there is no internet connection. It seems to be after the PC has sat idle for a while. When you click the internet, the PC icon on the router does not even blink - its like the PC and router are not talking. If it does connect, the connection is great. Any help would be appreciated!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is a known issue with intermittent connectivity and the Build 11 firmware for the WRT160N V2. Build 11 is the current firmware on the Linksys site. Check to see if you have Build 11 if your router is a V2.
Downgrading to Build 8 is generally accepted to correct these issues, however Linksys have indicated to several people they do not have the build 8 firmware to give to end users.
This is ONLY for WRT160N V2 routers. This firware will not work on WRT160N V1.
You can find it at http://audipages.com/router/
Follow the dowload and firmware downgrade instructions on that page.

    6) Also assign the DNS Addresses on the Xbox
    Primary dns :- 4.2.2.2...Secondary dns :- 192.168.1.1
    7) Turn off your modem, router, and Xbox...Wait for a minute...
    8) Plug the modem power first, wait for another minute and plug the router power cable, wait another minute and turn on the Xbox and test it...it will connect...

  • Wrt160n v2 router firmware broken

    Hi,
I just upgraded my router firmware to the latest version as found here: http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WRT160N/download Installing this version was really a bad idea though... My mac's could not connect anymore, after a lot of searching I finally downgraded like described here: http://audipages.com/router/. This worked but the connection is kind of unstable now.. I can not put the router in Wireless N only because then Mac's and Windows computer can not connect anymore.
Another thing is that the localized Dutch version of the site has a completely different firmware version of the same router: http://www.linksysbycisco.com/NL/nl/support/WRT160N/download....
So obvious question is: What is the preffered and recommended router firmware version for the WRT160N v2.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lars

The first thing is that it is not advisable to downgrade the firmware. It is recommended that to always use the firmware based on the model and the version no of the device..Area-wise the firmware does not differ a lot, however it is always preferred to use the firmware area-wise for the particular unit due to some limitation.
It is advisable to reset the router after upgrading the firmware. So reset the router for 35 seconds, power cycle the router and reconfigure the router from scratch.

  • (WRT160N V3 router) Issue connecting to web-based setup page

I am currently having 2 issues with my router. The first issue is the fact that I can not connect to my router's setup page (192.168.1.1). When I type the ip into my browser I get an error saying unable to connect to it. I have an internet connection and can connect to other websites perfectly fine, so the only issue I have is the setup page.
The second problem is my wireless connection. Over the past few days, I have started to experience a major ping increase in online games, and a speedtest (and pingtest) showed an issue with my wireless connection. Download speeds are normally 19-20mbps and upload speeds are normally above 6-7mbps. Recently the speeds have become about .39mbps and 2mbps respectively. Unfortunately because I can not connect to my router's setup page I can not modify any configurations that would allow me to possibly pinpoint the issue with the wireless connection.
tl;dr: Can not connect to my router's setup page in order to modify configuration settings to speed up my wireless connection which has been having issues.
Edit: Hardwired connections to the router are getting about 28mbps download as they should be. These computers also can not connect to the setup page.

You'd have to reconfigure your router again.
Setting-Up a Router with DSL Internet Service
Setting-Up a Router with Cable Internet Service
Dont forget to set up the security as well.

  • Wrt160n wireless router

I recently bought this for use in our home, however, I have an older HP computer that did not have wireless capability. I aalso purchased a Belkin Model F5D8053 wireless N USB Network adapter to work in conjunction with my linksys router. Everything works fine as long as the ethernet cable is hooked up, but when I try to go wireless with my computer, it will not let me on the internet. I spoke with Linksys Tech support, and with Belkin Tech support, but have not gotten enything accomplished. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion. I finally got it working properly last night. I had to restore my computer to the latest restore point prior to installation of the Linksys or Belkin products that I installed, re-install the Belkin wireless adapter, then change the channel that my Linksys router was running on. As soon as I changed the channel, everything started working properly. I noticed that all of the other wireless routers around my house were on a diferent channel and after a little research, learned that Underground electric dog fences and some home security systems can run on the same frequency that channel 11 on the Linksys router was running on (microwaves as well), which was causing interruption and interference. Changing the channel immediately solved the problem. I hope this might help anyone else out there who may experience this problem in the future.
    Thanks for the response.

To Configure your router you need to access the set-up page of the linksys router. You need to connect first a computer to the router to any of the numbered ports.
    > check the IP address. Default gateway will be the IP address of the router. ( 192.168.1.1)
    > You will be prompt for the Username and Password by default Password is admin.
    > who is your ISP? If its cable - go to the sub tab MAC ADDRESS CLONE under the SETUP tab and enable and clone the PC's MAC. After doing that go to the STATUS tab and check if you were able to see an INTERNET IP ADDRESS or better yet check if online.

  • Connecting Samsung BD-C6500 wireless DVD to WRT160N v2 router

The Samsung device connects to the router but WILL NOT connect to the internet saying that the HTTP port is blocked. HTTP port is not blocked in the router as best I can tell. I have upgraded the firmware and reset to factory defaults. My TIVO and two wireless computers all connect to the internet just fine.
I had one Samsung DVD player that initially connected via the router. It downloaded info and  I watched Netflix movies. then it stopped connecting and when I attempted to reconfigure the IP, DNS, etc it started giving me this type of error. I replaced the player with a new one but I get the same" HTTP blocked" error message...this player also initially appeared to connect to the internet but then stopped moments later. ISP says there are no problems on their end. Samsung says its the router or the ISP not their machine.
    HELP

Well if you are getting that error message on your Samsung DVD Player then you can try to open the HTTP Port on your router an check if its working or not.
To open the ports on your Router, you need to login to the setup page of your Router and click on the Application and Gaming tab and below under "Port Forwarding"
Application Name               Start Port              End Port                  Protocol              IP Address                             Enable
Samsung                                 80                         80                            BOTH        IP of Samsung DVD Player          Enable.
    And click on Save Settings...
Once are done then unplug the power from the router and modem, wait for 30sec and then first plug the power to the modem and once all the lights are lid on the Modem then you can plug the power to the Linksys Router.
Now you can check if you are getting the same error message on your Samsung DVD Player.

  • WRT160N V3 router ignores MAC address Access Restrictions, Filtering policies

I have added a list of 2 MAC addresses in the Access Restrictions for the access policy #1 and enabled it with Allow policy.  But one of my PC's MAC address which is not on the list of access policy #1 still can access the internet and ping websites.  I tried to add a Deny policy in 2nd policy for this PC MAC address and then it can not ping websites anymore.
The problem is why my PC with a MAC address not on the list of Allow Policy #1 can access the internet? It seems the router Access Restrictions don't work well.

I've already added Deny rule (blocking all LAN IPs) to all computers accessing my network in Access Restrictions Policy #1 but I leave one PC left to access the router web configuration.
Then in Acess Restrictions Policy #2, I added an Allow rule to one of my PC's MAC addresses (and its IP too) but the PC can not access internet and ping websites. It looks like the allow rule in policy #2 doesn't overwrite the Deny rule in Policy #1.

  • Installing a WRT160N with another router

Hello, I just bought a Linksys WRT160N Broadband Router. I have to connect it to my DSL-Router (192.168.1.1). I followed the setup instructions choosing option "I want to keep my other router". At the end I get the error "Internal Error 302". And no Internet on the PC connected to the WRT160N. Does the setup give a default IP address to the router when 192.168.1.1 is already in use? If yes which address? If I could access to the Web Linksys tool I may find a way to make it work... Help anyone? Many thanks in advance. Yves

Disconnect the DSL router from Linkssy router ....
Change the LAN Ip of the linksys router to 192.168.2.1 ...power it down ...then connect the DSL router ...
    See if it works ..

  • Connection problems with PALM TX and WRT160N router

I purchased a WRT160N wireless router. My computers connected with no problems, but when I attempted to connect my Palm TX I ran into a bunch of problems. At first the Palm would not even find the network. I eventually was able to configure the router so that the Palm can now find the network, but it still will not connect. I have removed the security from the network and rebooted both with no luck. I read that I am supposed to set the type to b/g mixed, frequency to 40 mghz, the wide channel to 6 and the other channel to 8. I was able to set the b/g mixed, the frequency to 20, the wide channel defaults to 3 (I cannot change this) and the other channel to 8. Any ideas?

Changing Router to b/g Mixed fixed the problem.
I had the same trouble. I've been trying to connect my Palm TX to my brand new Linksys WRT160N for a day and a half. Tried EVERYTHING....SSID Broadcast on/off, WEP, WPA, Security all off, nothing helped. I just switched the router settings to B/G Mixed. The TX connected immediately.
B/G will be fine, even though the router's optimum performance is N. My broadband operates at 25Mbs. 802.11g has a transfer rate of up to 54Mbs where N is well over 100. "G" will easily keep up with my internet's best speed. And I can still Wi-Fi with my TX at 802.11b (11Mbs).
I can temporarily switch to "N" if I ever want to transfer huge amounts of data between my "N" Laptop and my Desktop PC.
