WRT160N won't connect my desktop

I just bought a WRT160N, this isn't my first linksys wireless setup so I kind of know what I'm doing. I get the cable modem hooked up the router then the router to the desktop, plug in the router power supply but on the set-up disk when it says to hook up the power supply to the router it always comes up and says error that it cannot set up the router. The lights are all on the router, when I got to my network and sharing center(VISTA) it says limited connectivity and the line from "This Computer" to  "Network"  is green but from "Network" to the globe for intertet is not and there is an X thourgh the globe. Then under that for Access ---- Limited Connectivity.
Any ideas, thanks a lot.

  • WRT160N Won't Connect With Windows Mobile Device

I had another wireless router for years that connected almost instantly to my Windows Mobile 6.1 handheld device.  I switched to the WRT160N and it works great with my wireless laptops.  The device does not even show up in my available device lists on my Windows Mobile phone with wi-fi.  I tried manually connecting and it does not work.  I tried all of the other security settings, it does not work. The phone manufacturer (not the sevice provider which is Verizon) has acknowledged that they are having calls only about Cisco branded routers.  Does anyone have a solution?

I had exactly the same problem. Tried the live technical support chat but didn't solve the problem. Resorted to random changing of settings and discovered if I changed the router setting Wireless -> Basic Wireless Settings - Network mode from 'Mixed' to 'BG-Mixed' my Windows Mobile 6.1 device found the network and happily connects with WPA2

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.
    Hopefully something there is helpful!

  • Wrt160N won't connect to my hp L7880

Just hooked up a wrt160N to replace an existinfgD-Link router. Every laptop connects seemlessly, the only issue is that I can't get my HP L7880 to conect. It appears in the detected device menu but it is not highlighted like the laptops which are able to conect to the network. Thnaks in advance for any help.  Paul

I believe your HP L7880 is a wireless printer -- but I don't see it listed on any of HP's help sites --- here's a link for setting up a similar model (7780) that should work for your L7880 -- http://tinyurl.com/y9srlg4
You may want to check and see if the printer's drivers are up to date also

  • My Wii and my Linksys WRT160N won't connect

When I try to go on to the internet from my Wii console I can only get to the point where the Wii console recognizes my network but won't allow me to connect to the internet (error code 51330).
I have tried turning the router firewall off and various other things but nothing has seemed to solve the problem...
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

I had the exact same problem with this model of router and finally figured out how to fix it.  First, go into your wii settings and then into the internet settings.  Find your Mac address for the wii and write it down.  After that you need to use the software that came with your linksys where you see the router and all the hubs surrounding it.  You must log into your router and then you will see a menu that says something with "access".  You will need to go there and on the second or third line there is a place for you to create a list.  This is where you enter the wii Mac address.  Once you do this and apply the new settings your wii should be working with the internet.

  • WRT160N won't connect to tv

I'm having an issue getting my tv to start connecting again to the wireless router.
Have tried pin setup (timed out & didn't connect...attempted at least 10 times in this fashion)
Have tried entering the password (router seems to refuse the connection to the tv)
About a month ago, I was in the Network Magic Map & it looked like one of the laptops had been cloned, so I removed it from the network. Could this have created the issue?  How do I reauthorize if that's the case?

Are you getting an error message when you try to reconnect your wireless TV to your router? What type of security are you using on your router? I do not think that it was the case about your Network Magic. And try to check wireless macfiltering on your router as well, check if it is enabled that might be the reason why your wireless TV cannot connect anymore.
Accessing the router’s web-based setup page:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=3676
When you get to the setup page of the router: click on the Wireless tab and then click on Wireless MAC Filter.
Prevent - means block wireless access from the devices listed on this screen.
Permit. -means allow wireless access by the devices listed on this screen.

  • Playbook will not connect with Desktop Software

Playbook won't connect with desktop software any longer. Seems to have started after latest update to 2.0. Still working fine with my Torch 9810, but not with the Playbook. I even tried reinstalling the Desktop software, but no go. Tried to "forget" Playbook, but now I can't even add it as a device any longer!

possible you need to uninstall Device Manager, not Desktop Software.
Disconnect the PB from the computer.
    Uninstall the Device Manager.
Reboot your computer (for good measure)
Connect the PB using the USB cable.
Now you should see a PlayBook CD-ROM.
In that CD-ROM you will find version 7 of the Device Manager, install it.
Once installed disconnect the PB from the computer.
Wait for about 15 seconds then plug it back in.
Windows should detect new device and start Device Manager. It may take up to two minutes for windows to detect and properly install.
Then device manager will map 'z' drive to the PB.

  • Won't connect to the Mac version of Desktop Manager

I have a blackberry 8520 v 4.6.1.314 (platform 4.2.0.135). It used to connect to the desktop manager, but now it won't connect at all.
The desktop manager reads the cellphone type just fine (on the screen it reads the name (my name), the cellphone type, the PIN number, and how much space my media card has left) but if I click the icon on the upper-left side of the screen, it says that my cellphone is not connected. The back-Up, Restore, and Sync buttons are all greyed.
How do I fix this? It used to be just fine a couple of months ago, and I never changed anything on my blackberry. -- in short, it has the same condition as it was before, when everything was a OK.
PS: My Mac version of the Blackberry Desktop Manager is the newest version.

Did you try a hard reset? ( phone powered on / remove battery / replace 15 seconds later and wait for reboot)
    Did this work?
If not, make sure you have mass storage mode enabled on your device:
To enable mass storage mode complete the following steps:
Connect your BlackBerry smartphone to your computer.
From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options > Media Card or Memory, or click Options > Advanced Options > Media Card(depending on which BlackBerry® Device Software version you are running).
Press the Menu key and change Mass Storage Mode Support to On.
To enable Mass Storage Mode automatically every time you connect, scroll down to Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode when Connected and change it to Yes.
Press the Menu key and click on Save.
Enter your BlackBerry smartphone password and click Enter (if prompted).

  • Desktop won't connect with Blackberry

I'm using Vista Home Premimum and I have uninstalled ActiveSync. I have installed vesion 4.5 (4.3 won't work. It starts and then a second later shuts down.) When I connect the blackberry to the USB port, the desktop doesn't connect with it. The computer recognizes the blackberry and device manager shows that it is working properly, but the desktop won't connect.

Although the following thread had XP as the operating system, I believe this might be a good way to isolate your problems. It resolved the problem for them. Please note StoneRivers post.

  • Mac desktop won't connect to wirless internet.

My Mac desktop, running Lion, won't connect to my wireless internet. All other devices will connect, and desktop will connect via ethernet. Have tried deleting and renaming network and password. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

  • My iPhone 3GS won't connect to my Linksys WRT160N v3

I have an iPhone 3GS and figured what a great idea it would be to have a wireless network in my house!  So i bought a Linksys WRT160N v3 wireless router.  And problems galore!  I can connect to my network alright but my iPhone won't switch over to "wireless" mode if you know what i mean.  It remains in "3G" mode. Not sure why it won't switch over.  After doing some research, i may have stumbled upon the problem...maybe?   Looking at the specs of an iPhone 3GS, it appears that it doesn't support "N" routers(i.e. 802.11 b/g - but no "N")  So did i screw up and buy the wrong router?  Is this router backwards compatible?
    Thanks!
    Dave

Same problem with Linksys WR160N and WiFi iPhone connection. No matter what you do it won't connect. It DOES for about 3min and then kicks you out, period.
I just bought this Linksys WR160N and my OLD Linksys G worked 100% better then this.

  • Desktop app store won't connect under proxy

My company recently instituted a corporate proxy and a few apps have been having difficulty with it. The app store is one of these. It just won't connect to anything - even the Help option just sits there "downloading latest help".
I have set up in my Network preference pane to connect HTTP and HTTPS to our proxy on port 80. Is there another port I need to set up here so the app store can connect as well?

Guess what... 10.6.8 update fixes this!
I still can't get MobileMe to connect though.
