WRT160NL built in DHCP server and WEB server stop to work

Hello all!
My home network based on the WRT160NL with one wireline PC, two wireless PCs and wireless printer works with no problems - connections are at full speed, no drop outs, wireless and wireline QOS is perfect. But then quite regularly every two or three days suddenly the router internal DHCP servers stops to work - I see with the wireshark that my wireline PC sends the DHCP requests to the router but router does not reply to them. If at the same moment the other PC's are allready in use and got theirs IP before they can surf the internet uninterrupted. Only router reboot helps to solve this situation. After the reboot DHCP server immediately acknowledges DHCP request from the PC and assigns him his IP number.
Sometime this situation occurs when IP address is already assigned, I can surf the internet, routing works, I can ping the router but I can not access the router's built in web server. Neither via  IE, neither via FF.
I do not use P2P programs, IP traffic over the router is very light - no internal traffic between PCs, no file transfers to the USB flash key and WAN internet connection is 1Mbs. I have upgraded to the latest firmware Ver.1.00.01.17. Nevertheless problem occurs quite regularly about every three days.
I try to reproduce the problem more frequently and there is the way how to do that - I start to watch IP TV on my wireline PC (usually I watch my IP TV via the STB connected directly to the DSL modem) so IP TV multicast now goes through the router. It is about 5 - 6 Mbs and about 500 pps of IP traffic. This IP TV stream very often causes internal web server and DHCP server to stop. So although I can watch IP TV and surf the web on my PC with no problems, if other PC's are powered up during this situation they will not get theirs IP addresses.
I see in other posts on this forum that similar behavior can be triggered also with the heavy read/write traffic to the attached USB flash key.
So my conclusion would be:
- are the problems above known to Linksys/Cisco, do they acknowledge them, do they work on them
- when we can expect new firmware release - can we expect new release for this model at all

Ridcully thank you for your post, I did not execute the procedure you suggested. Prior to execute it I want to get more background on it? Why do you think that reconfiguring from the factory defaults would solve my problem? Are you 100% sure that this is the solution or are you just guessing?
Router offers backup and restore functionality where you can store current configuration into file on PC and latter restore it. Can I use this functionality in your procedure or should I reconfigure all router settings manually?

    The movie is probably MPEG format.
    QuickTime Pro and iMovie cannot transcode audio contained in MPEG movies.
    Try to convert with SimpleMovieX or MPEG Streamclip instead.

  • DHCP Server does not work after Exporting and Importing Using Netsh Command

    I had two dhcp servers in windows server 2003 server , I have upgraded one of them to windows server 2008 32 bit and again i installed a windows server 2008 R2 as an additional Domain Controller , the last scenario was like this :
    srv-1 : windows server 2003 + DHCP = working with no problem
    srv-2 : windows server 2003 + DC + DHCP = Worked without problem
    srv-3 : windows server 2008 R2 + DC = worked without any problems
    I exported the DHCP server configuration on the srv-2 using netsh dhcp server export and Imported them to srv-3 using the
    netsh dhcp server import command , the command completed successfully and i can see all of the scopes without any problems and errors , i have authorized the new server without any problem , all scopes are activated without any problem so i
    disabled the srv-2 DHCP service and unauthorized it from active directory , the problem is that the new server semms that does not lease any address to clients !!!
    1- I have authorized it
    2- I used Rogue Checker tool in client computers they see authorized server without any problems
    3- The same tool in workgroup only shows srv-1 as the DHCP server and does not see other DHCP servers
    4- Bindings are OK and DHCP servers only have one NIC installed on them
    What can i do to make sure my srv-3 DHCP server will work on the network ?

    Are the clients on another network so you need to configure a DHCP relay agent?
    If you load up perfmon on the dhcp server and remove all counters and then add DHCP counters. Do you see any dhcprequests when you reboot your dhcp clients? This will determine if your server actually receives any dhcp requests.
    Have you check event viewer for any warnings or errors?
    And the classic one restarted the dhcp server service (or reboot)?

    Tried to get the new firmware DHCP Server option working but after turning it off and back on it doesn't seem to give any addresses anymore.
    Anyone else having troubles or success actually using the SF300 v1.4 DHCP Server?
    I even tried factory default reset but no luck.
    When I did have it working everything was good but the older Cisco Meraki would not get an IP address so I had to revert to an older DHCP server.  When I tried again today by turning the older server off and the SF300 back on, none of the Windows machines that previously would work would get an address.

  • DHCP addressing and web sharing

    I am having problems with websharing...
    I am having difficulty keeping my G5's DHCP address to stay static. I am forwarding the http ports on my lynksys router to 192.168.15.104 right now...but my DHCP will change it in a week or so to 103 or 100. is there any way I can stop this from changing? My external IP is not even changing... just the one for my G5 on the local network.

    William, is Lynksys router the one providing the DHCP addresses? I remember being able to set a specific address to a particuler machine. You first need to find the mac address of the airport extreme card. Open up the Nework Preference Pane and then double click on the airport card. I'm connect via cable so I don't know exactly what you will see but I have an ethernet tab. Click on it and it will show you your Ethernet ID. That is your mac address. Now look at the documentation for the Lynksys router. Somewhere is should mention about connecting a server or routing specific ports to a specific IP address. This is where you will find the information on how to make sure your G5 always gets the same IP address. I know this isn't too specific of information but I hope that it leads you in the right direction.

  • 27xi and web printing is not working properly with Firefox

    I just bought this HP 27xi monitor at Costco and thinking about buying another soon.
    I use Firefox and went to print this page on the web that I have printed before using my HP desktop and smaller HP monitor and had no problems. Last night I try to print up the same page and it is a wide mess. I try using the shrink to fit. I try lowering to below 50% and then the information moves from row to row so it makes no sense.
    I was told by Costo Consierge that I need to try another browser like Internet Explorer to see if that helps. My Firefox is up to date. My MS OS Win & Pro is up to date. My MS Office 2013 is up to date and just recently reinstalled. I have installed the proper driver for this monitor and made sure it was up to date from HP site. My printer is newer HP 8600 and it's drivers are up to date. I checked all my drivers for my CPU and they are all up to date.
    So are there no good drivers for this monitor for Firefox and Win 7 Pro and will I have to revert back to IE?

    I was able to track down someone who pointed me in the right direction. The problem is that Firefox doesn't come with the right drivers for this monitor. So I went to Mozilla and found a plug in that worked.  What you should be looking for is a What You See Is What You Get or WYSIWYG editor. So plug that term in at Mozilla site and up will pop up a few of  these editors. I used the  Xinha one which was the most popular one downloaded.

    I don't have to go back to IE now even though Costco concierge recommended I do that. How lame is that? The guy at the Costco store knew more than the tech support crew.
    I love this monitor and plan to buy another and another cpu but would NEVER ever buy direct from HP again with only 20 day return policy. Will be buying a Dell 8700 with Win 7 Pro from Costco since none of the HP machines have 7 Pro on them. Today MS announced they will offer Win8 upgrades for free with Bing strings. They now can only give it away since no one wants it.

  • K800i as a bluetooth modem - email and web just stopped working!

    I have been using a K800i as a BT modem for many months now - have had no problems.
    The phone pairs with my PowerBook - I can browse files, iSync etc. I can also establish a live connection to the internet through the phone - connects and authenticates no problem - but for some reason, I simply cannot actually surf the web via Safari (or any other browser) or download/send email. There is no problem with my phone - I still can retrieve email and surf form the handset.

    2.Run it and go to the tab updates and tune-ups.

    Also if it doesnt' work , you can also try :
    1.Right click to the computer. 
    2.Click to the manage option.
    3.Then select the device manager.
    4.After that go to imagine devices and select your camera, then right click on it and select the option update the driver software do the same in the touchpad.
    If and this doesn' t work unistall the drivers and install them again.

    Just updated OS X to latest 10.7.5 and I am using Minecraft 1.3.2.
    After loading software Minecraft screen is like being in an earthquake jittering up and down while the character will not move out of its existing square. I can use tools but not move.

    Thanks Tom. Whilst their site did not resolve the issue you did make me think about creating a New World in Minecraft. This created fine and does not exhibit the problems. I guess the last game is just corrupt and not an OS X issue and is just a coincidence.

    I am using Solaris 10 SPARC (Netra X1) as a router (DHCP/NAT)
    I'm running the built-in dhcp-server with the following in /etc/inet/dhcpsvc.conf

    If I set my client to a static IP this issue disappears, which leads me to believe it's DHCP who is the culprit here.
    Does anyone have any suggestions? From the pntadm output "Zero" should mean the lease never expires, right?

    A 64 bit VM is not necessarily faster than a 32 bit one. I remember at least on suggestion that it could be slower.
    Make sure you use the -server option.
    As a guess IBM isn't necessarily a slouch when it comes to Java. It might simply be that their VM was faster. Could have used a different dom library as well.
    Could be an environment problem of course.
    Profiling the application and the machine as well might provide information.

  • IP address not refreshing with new DHCP Server setup

    This is a strange issue that I am lost. I had a different Gateway with  a Built in DHCP server on 192.168.0.1 IP address. I installed a new DHCP Server with an IP address 192.168.1.1, but when I connect to the Wireless network with the correct password, I still get an IP address in the old IP range.
    I have done a security wipe with the same result.
    Does anyone have any ideas on what I need to do to flush out all the IP information?

    That is what I ended up doing, altho it seems very weird. I figured out how to correct it, but still am not sure why it happend.
    1. Changed my DHCP Serer IP to 192.168.0.1
    2. Went into the Client list and deleted the IP for the Playbook.
    3. Changed the DHCP Server IP back to 192.168.1.1
    4. Playbook has new IP.
    Anyone with ideas why this happened I would be interested in their thoughts!!!

    I have a RVS4000 router with DHCP enabled and in router mode. 
    The LAN is 192.168.2.x.  The RVS4000 static IP address is 192.168.2.8
    The router is not the RVS4000 and is at 192.168.2.1
    The RVS4000 dhcp is assigning it's clients a default gateway of 192.168.2.8 instead of what I want 192.168.2.1.
    How can I get the RVS4000's DHCP server to assign another IP address other than its own as the default gateway to its DHCP clients?

    Hi Gail, you cannot do this. The router, as the DHCP server will only assign a default gateway of what IP interface the DHCP server runs on. If you have the default IP, the gateway is 192.168.1.1. If you create a second vlan, by default it would be 192.168.2.1.
    There are not configuration options for the built-in DHCP server. If you'd like to expand this functionality, you would need an external dhcp server.

    We are using the built-in DHCP server on the WS-C3750G-24WS-S25 controller to distribute IP addresses to our (wireless) guest VLANs.
    Our guest VLAN has grown a lot and lately we are experiencing DHCP problems (long time to get an ip or renew for example)
    Yesterday, the controller crashed with the message:
    Reaper Reset: Task "DHCP Server" taking too much cpu: 39% (user 36%, system 2%) while SW Watchdog is disabled
    So now i wonder:
    1) how many DHCP requests / second can this controller handle ?
    2) can we somehow debug or see how many requests /sec the controller needs to handle ?
    Our guest WLAN has about 1000 clients, lease time 9h
    Controller is WS-C3750G-24WS-S25
    , running version 6.0.188.0 (left on this level, because of DHCP problems after upgrade)

    Geert,
    I would recommend that you use external DHCP server. Internal DHCP is designed to help but not to fully replace external DHCP servers in enterprise.
    Besides, the version you are using is old. You can upgrade to 6.0.202.0 which should handle system resources more efficently and hence mitigate your problem.
    You can also upgrade to some 7.0.x versions. (avoid 7.0.98.0 though). 7.0 has more new features.
    I suggest that you upgrade and if the problem is still exist then you use external DHCP.
    Because of your current problem; enabling debugs on your WLC would possibly overwhelm the memory and CPU more and make the WLC more prone to crash again.
    You can collect sniffer traces on the WLC port if you'd like which is better than enabling debugs.
    You can restrict the debugs to be with one client only (debug mac addr ) then follow the debugs you'd like. However, debuggin only one client will not give you statistics about dhcp requests received by WLC. it only shows you dhcp process of one client.
