WRT160NL Issue

WRT160NL doesn's seem to allow N-speed connections. My laptop with Intel 4569AGN only connects at 54Mbps at best. It recognizes the router as 802.11n and states that the connection quality is Excellent. I don't believe I could restrict that adapter to only connect at 802.11g speed (at least I have never configured it to do that). So what could be the problem?
The router's wireless configuration is set to Mixed, with everything else being Auto or Default. Security is WPA2-PSK/MAC filtering/SSID not broadcast.
 Thanks!

Go to Solution.

Found the solution. 4569AGN has a list of known issues (see under Release Notes) and here is one of them that made all the difference:
Operating in 802.11n Mode
Intel recommends using security with your wireless network. The Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN adapter can only achieve transfer rates greater than 54 Mbps on 802.11n connections when using AES security, or no security. You should only use no security when setting up or troubleshooting the network.
To enable AES for Personal Security, select WPA-Personal (AES-CCMP) or WPA2-Personal (AES-CCMP) in the Security Settings pulldown menu. To enable AES for Enterprise Security, select AES-CCMP in the Data Encryption pulldown menu.

  • WRT160NL B17 channel width issues

Sometimes my storage disapears and I can't see it from my windows machines. When that happens I have to reboot the router and then I can see the storage again.
However, after a reboot, my wireless laptops don't connect automatically. I have to go to the web interface of the router and change the wireless channel width from 20MHz to automatic. Then the laptops connect. So this is issue number one. Issue number two is that this setting doesn't persist. Next time I reboot the channel width goes back to 20MHz.

On the setup page under Wireless tab, click on Advance Wireless Settings tab and Change the Beacon Interval to 50,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on "Save Settings"...Also reduce the MTU size to 1400 on the setup page and click on save settings.
Power cycle the router and check the result..If you are still facing the same problem then, try to upgrade/reflash the router's firmware. After upgrading the router's firmware...reset the router and reconfigure the router from scratch.

  • WRT160NL and XBOX + AP issues

I've installed a WRT160NL in my home as the main router. I've correctly set up the wired network and also the wireless one, as long as I get Internet access with all my devices: desktop PC, netbook, iPod Touch and XBOX console. With this last device I'm having some speed problems. I connect the XBOX to the WRT160NL through a Conceptronic C54APM Access Point. The console has Internet access but it's really slow. I've activated the UPnP Media Server on the router to access to the shared USB external link, but the reading of directories is extremely sloooow.
I would like to know which is the protocol used by the WRT160NL to share the contents of the HD I've attached in the "normal" sharing mode and also in the UPnP. The console has several sharing formats supported, but I don't know id the offered by the Linksys is SMB, NFS, etc.
Thanks in advance for your help!!
    Vuela, vuela, V.O.M.I.T.O.N.!!!

Are you facing the Low connectivity on your other computer also while accessing the internet on PC, Noteboot, IPOD? or you are just facing the problem with your XBOX. Have you tried to mapp the drive on your computer and check if its still working on your computer also? If it works perfectly fine on your PC's then i think you need to check the settings on Conceptronic C54APM access point.

  • Need help with email transfers of large files WRT160nl

This is a new router for my home based business network. I am using Windows XP, Vonage, cable, a Dell power connect 2708 to expand ports and the WRT160nl router. Two issues: the most important is that I can no longer email large pdf files (contracts for instance) without breaking them into 6 to 7 Mg size files. Even 10mg files will not go. My previous Linksys wireless router (since 2003) never had this problem. Any ideas? I should also mention that I scan the files before trying to upload via email to clients.
Also, at least once a day I have to restart my desktop (wireless) because the connection to our server (where all our files are stored) has dropped. I can access the internet and email.  Any ideas?
    Many thanks

Open the setup page of the router and change the MTU size to 1365. Save the settings.
Go to Wireless tab and click on Advanced wireless settings sub tab. Change the Beacon Interval to 75, RTS and fragmentation threshold to 2306. Save the settings and power cycle the router. See if that makes any difference.
Make sure that firmware on your router is upgraded.

  • Wrt160nl Management via HTTPS

    Hi ,
    I have an issue with new Win8 & IE10.
When I try to access web management interface of my wrt160nl (Firmware Version: 1.00.01 B15) via HTTPS I'm receiving the foolowing message:
"Continue to this website (not recommended)."
If I click on it another error page appears:
    "Certification error: Navigation blocked.
There is a problem with this website's security certificate"
At the same time I'm able to acccess the management interface via HTTPS, but from my laptop with Win7 & IE9. There if I click on the red Certificate Error > View certificate and the certificate information is:
    Issued by: Linksys
    Issued to: Linksys
    Valid from : 1.1.2009 to 1.1.2010
So I'd like to know if I could update the router certificate or what settings should I use in IE10 in order to access the web management interface via HTTPS?
    BR,
    Krass

You can try these steps. I found a workaround that might help you with the issue you are having since users who tried it reported that it worked for them.
Try viewing https://192.168.1.1 in Compatibility View.
Note: Not all website display problems are caused by browser incompatibility. Interrupted Internet connections, heavy traffic, or problems with the website can also affect how a webpage is displayed.
    Open IE.
Press ALT+T keys, to launch “Tools” drop down menu.
In the “Tools” menu, select “Compatibility View Settings” option.
In the “Compatibility View” window, add the name of the site (with which you are facing the issue) and then check.

  • WRT160NL - Connection drops, Reboots, USB performance

WRT160NL - Connection drops, Reboots, USB performance
After reading many posts dating back several months regarding internittent connectivty drops, usb performance issues and users having to reboot there routers frequently with the WRT160NL, I was fairly convinced this is a FIRMWARE issue and not a config or hardware problem. Nevertheless after adjusting settings as per Linksys support, replacing my DSL modem, and yes RMA'ing my WRT160NL, I am still having these issues with this device which points definetly is the direction of "FIRWARE".
I'm hoping these posts are being acted on and escalated to Linksys(Cisco) so that we can get a resolution to our frustrating scenerio. I have seen post after post with similar issues and complaints. When are we going to see a FIRMWARE upgrade?

Same issues, same problems.  Tried all suggested configurations from this forum.  WRT160NL slows down and locks up after running 12 to 24 hours.  Can not access router set up page after that.  Running latest fireware.  Considering putting it on a timer to reboot it every 12 hours.  Must be a fireware issue or the entire production run is defective and should be recalled.

  • WRT160NL upnp and subtitles.

    Dear all,
I have upnp configured nicely working to my kiss 1600 mediaplayer. When I play a movie with srt-subtitles, the subtitles will not show. When I play the same movie from USB stick directly in the kiss 1600 the subs are shown nicely.
I have read on other sites that there are issues with upnp servers not scanning srt-files and such. Is the upnp server of the WRT160NL one of them? Can I configure anything to do so? I have upgraded the firmware to 1.00.01 B1.
    Please advise.
    kind regards,
    Ronald

As you upgraded the router's firmware,I would suggest you to reset the router for 35 seconds,Power Cycle the router and reconfigure it from scratch.

  • WRT160NL - Guest Account cannot be modified

    All,
I just installed my WRT160NL. I was able to set it up and also get my storage connected and working. My problem is I cannot update any credentials for the Guest account and the scary part is it is part of the admin group which means super access. How do I get around this issue - Please advise?
    Thank You
    NR

Follow this link to change the storage user password.
If it is still not working then I think you may need to reset the router and reconfigure it.
Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and then reconfigure it.

  • WRT160NL changing file sizes on data storage

I have WRT160NL with Firmware Version: 1.0.02. After 3 days of trying to connect my WD Elements 3TB I succeeded with 2 partitions of 1TB and one of 700 Gb not visible from router. I'm ok with that. The problem now is when I copy my files. I'm trying to create TV Series library for my Apple TV. Everything is working fine except the size of the files. When I'm copying files from PC USB they are corrupted on the network storage and not accessible. When I'm copying one file of size 350 Mb on the Network Storage via WIFI working fine but is saved with size of 2,7 Gb. General I have a lot of problems with this router and I'm very disappointed.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Fixed:
It was NTFS. I upgraded the router with latest firmware today 1.0.03. Had the same issue. I change the HDD partitions on 2 and formatted the disk on FAT32 and everything is OK for now. All of 3TB is accessible and the files are copied and reproduced just fine. The speed of the network also has changed for the better 5Mb/second via WiFi before I had 1,5Mb/second. Had some problems with one of the Access point after the firmware upgrade but fixed later.
Generally if you Storage is more than 2TB the router had some problems but
2 Partitions, FAT32 and the latest firmware 1.0.03 will fix the problem.

  • WRT160NL not allowing Xbox 360 to stream files from PC

I have just purchased a WRT160NL and have hooked it up and it will allow me to access the internet fine on my PC and also allow me to connect to xbox live fine on my xbox 360. When I try to stream media files from my PC from Zune though it will no longer work like it did with my previous version of Linksys router (BEFW11S4). I have followed several troubleshooting steps including trying to open several ports on my firewall but have had no success. When I try to connect to my PC with my xbox 360 I can see that it is communicating with the router fine but it is not allowing the xbox to in turn communicate with the computer. Anyone have any ideas on to what might be causing this issue?

Follow this link and change the settings on your Computer as well as on your XBOX360. Once you are done with the settings you should be able to play media files from your XBOX

  • WRT160NL and AirPort Express 802.11n Connection

I have a Linksys WRT160NL that is currently connected to 2 Apple AirPort Express 802.11n via WiFi.
The connections are Cable Model via ethernet to WRT160NL
WRT160NL ethernet to PCs running XP and Vista
WRT160NL WiFi to laptops at 802.11g
WRT160NL ethernet to DirecTV HD Box
WRT160NL WiFi to Airport Express to ethernet connection of DirecTV HD Boxes (2 connections) (802.11g)
This current setup works. The hard wired components work as expected and the wifi to the AirPort Expresses work as well. The only issue I have is that the AirPort Expresses are only connecting to the the WRT160NL via WiFi at 802.11g speeds. I want to be able to conenct the AirPort Expresses at 802.11n speeds as I am having some streamin issues for High Def video. I verfied in the DHCP Client Table of the router that the AirPort Exresses are connected via "Wireless-G" to the routers. The AirPort Expresses are running the lastest firmware from Apple and I am running Firmware Version: 1.00.01 B17 on the router.
Any help/ideas on how I can connect the Apple Airport Express to the WRT160NL at 802.11n speeds? Are these 2 devices just not compatible with each other?

Thanks for the reply Scrooge. I have verified that the Apple Airport Express is 802.11n complaint:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB321LL/A/AirPort-Express-AirTunes?fnode=MTY1NDA0Mg&mco=MTA4NTc4MTE
I have also checked to make sure tha the router is set to Mixed mode:
    Mode:      Mixed
    Network Name (SSID):     xxxxxxxxx
Channel Width:     Standard - 20MHz Channel
    Wide Channel:     N/A
    Standard Channel:     2
    Security:     WPA2 Personal
    SSID Broadcast:     Enabled
The airport expresses are still connected at 802.11g according to the DHCP Client Table from the router. Is there any way to force the Airport Expresses to connect at 802.11n?
    TIA

  • Restart WRT160NL from WebGUI

Is there any way yo restart the WRT160NL from the web interface? I've had several routers before this Linksys and all of them had this option. In the web GUI of the WRT I can't find the way to do it and I have no other solution of unplugging it and plugging again.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Vuela, vuela, V.O.M.I.T.O.N.!!!

I am looking for the same answer... If only we could access the command line... is it possible? I'd issue a 'reboot' command
Meanwhile I gave it a thought and THERE is a way to reboot the router (haven't tested it yet but I think it works): restoring a configuration makes the router reboot after the process is finished. I know it is a bit lame, but more lame is not having that option (smc has it).
You can always give it a try, but I really don't understand why Linksys is not implementing the reboot router option (at least i haven't found it anywhere!!)

  • WRT160NL Port Forwarding Bug?

I have 2 NAS drives with FTP servers built in. I want to set my WRT160NL to forward single ports to these servers.
In the single port forwarding page, I set:
External port 100, Internal port 21, Both, IP: 192.168.1.10
External port 200, Internal port 21, Both, IP: 192.168.1.20
This should be fine since there are 2 devices, each with their own IP address. But, I get an error message when I try and save "The port range already exists". If i reconfigure one of the devices to use a different internal port then I can save, but I should not have to.
    Is this a known bug?

Thanks, I know there are workarounds (I mentioned I could reconfigure one of the NAS servers in my post). That is not what I am after.
As it turns out, if I use the preset "FTP" then I can also use Port 21, so I can set 2 devices, but this is still not the correct solution.
After more research, this appears to be a problem with many other models, why doesn't Cisco/Linksys fix this issue. Seems easy enough to me. This could even be just an issue with the javascript and there is no technical reason why it was blocked.

  • Better router than WRT160NL for wireless library?

I have been evaluating a WRT160NL. This router is used to allow wirless access to a set of multi-TB (USB) hard disks that comprise a wireless library. The idea is: I open a Pelican case in the middle of nowhere, and flip a power switch...presto...everyone in the local area has access to all of man's knowledge, including every book ever printed
The features I love StorageLink's ability to plug in multiple multi-TB hard disks (though a USB hub) as a NAS, and to make them available through either Cat 5 or 802.11b, g, and n. I have successfully tested a WD MyBook 2TB dual edition. The ability of the WRT310NL to run off a 12V DC (2.1mm x 5.5mm) plug really helps in the middle of nowhere. (I use 12V universal laptop batteries for power.)
    The problems I have are:
    (1) The routher looses its' configuration when power is pulled, making me log in by http to set up the NAS configuration all over.
    (2) The router only supports SAMBA NAS (AFAIK) so no FTP or HTTP access to the NAS. (Have you ever tried to install SAMBA on a NOKIA 800 or an IPHONE?)
    (3) Sometimes I have difficulty gettting the router to recognize multiple partitions. It seems if I change the settings on a partition, it's screwed for good. Togeather with the need to reset the settings after every router cold boot, this is a pain.
So, is there a better version of a Linksys by CISCO router for me?
    Andy
P.S. I understand that some models (610) support 802.11a, and gigabit ethernet which would be good from a compatibility point of view, but that's not critical. The real issues are those I listed above.

Try to upgrade/reflash your router's firmware and reconfigure it...
Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
