WRT160NL upnp and subtitles.

Dear all,
I have upnp configured nicely working to my kiss 1600 mediaplayer. When I play a movie with srt-subtitles, the subtitles will not show. When I play the same movie from USB stick directly in the kiss 1600 the subs are shown nicely.
I have read on other sites that there are issues with upnp servers not scanning srt-files and such. Is the upnp server of the WRT160NL one of them? Can I configure anything to do so? I have upgraded the firmware to 1.00.01 B1.
Please advise.
kind regards,
Ronald

As you upgraded the router's firmware,I would suggest you to reset the router for 35 seconds,Power Cycle the router and reconfigure it from scratch.

  • Wrt160nl upnp and xbox360-- some files missing

    Hi,
I have a wrt160nl with original firmware. (tried updating but it said it failed each time)
I have upnp turned on to share files with my xbox360. My xbox can connect to the server, but it doesn't see all of the files. I have a folder,  HD Movies which has 12 HD movies, 8 of which or mkv, and then a few others. The xbox only sees 5 mkvs, and 1 .mov... I'm curious why 3 of the mkvs don't show up at all.  (i realize the xbox won't plat the mkv file, i'm just curious why some of them show up and others dont)  I have auto scan turned on and i've waited a few days. I've also restarted the router and the xbox. There are about 20 movies the xbox doesn't pick up out of around 140. Most of them are normal avi files that play fine through a usb stick.
Would a firmware upgrade help this? Any suggestions on why i can't upgrade my firmware?
Also, if i scan manually, it seems to stall. I've let it sit overnight and it still has the --scanning drive-- message. If i quit early, most of the files won't show up at all. If i let it auto scan, most of the files will be there eventually.

Thanks saber_tooth ... but the xbox's firmware can't be upgraded legally. And the OS level software on it is up to date. In addition, it can access the exact same files from my computer which is acting as a upnp server. It only has problems with the wrt160.
Also, my computer can access the files using samba... isn't that separate  from upnp?
Why does the router not ever finish scanning when i scan it manually? Why can't i upgrade my firmware on the router ( i get an error that says the upgrade failed)??
    Thanks again

  • On UPnP and NAT (Network Address Translation)

Why UPnP is an often asked Question.
This article goes a long way to say why.
    A couple of Quotes
    *What is UPnP?*
Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is an architecture for pervasive peer-to-peer network connectivity of PCs and intelligent devices or appliances, particularly within the home. UPnP builds on Internet standards and technologies, such as TCP/IP, HTTP, and XML, to enable these devices to automatically connect with one another and work together to make networking - particularly home networking - possible for more people.
*Are there other ways to solve the problem of NAT traversal? If so, why is using UPnP the best choice?*
Yes, there are other ways to solve this problem, but no other mechanism currently exists as an industry standard to address this problem in an automatic way for the consumer and in such a universally-applicable way for the developer.
    Simply Automated Starter Package
Other approaches require either manual intervention by the user or they require special development efforts by the Internet gateway device vendor and the software developer to handle the NAT traversal needs of specific applications. As a result, UPnP is uniquely able to solve this important problem.
*Consumer does the work.* The manual intervention methods of NAT traversal require a consumer to use a browser, a graphical user interface-based tool on the PC, or a command line interface tool on the PC to change some settings on the Internet gateway device in the home. While some technical enthusiast users have little difficulty with this, many consumers do not feel comfortable doing this. Further, many consumers may not even realize that NAT traversal problems are interfering with their use of services across the Internet. _The user may be attempting to play a multi-player game or engage in some other peer-to-peer service but find he or she cannot connect for some reason._ This leads to troubleshooting, support calls, customer dissatisfaction, and reluctance on the part of the user to try new services or experiences in the future.
*Developer does the work.* To avoid requiring the consumer to solve this NAT traversal problem manually, some Internet gateway device vendors have written and included application layer gateway support into their devices. This application layer gateway software is designed with specific applications in mind. In other words, the device vendor writes and tests specific code that will automatically enable one application to go through the NAT. If the application software is updated, the application layer code the device vendor wrote may have to be updated and tested again. This one-at-a-time way of chasing the NAT traversal problem is manageable for device vendors when there are only a few peer-to-peer or relevant applications to consider, but this approach does not scale well to 100s or 1000s of applications, can be very expensive to pursue, and likely requires specific knowledge of how each of these applications function. The better way to approach this problem is to have the device vendor add software or firmware to their device once to understand UPnP and have other devices and software be able to communicate with the NAT device using this same technology. UPnP is uniquely able to fulfill this role today.
I have underlined a passage in the last.
I hope this helps in some way.

What is the procedure to be able to type titles and subtitles in my videos?

I have written several blog posts on the Premiere Elements Titler. See if any of them addresses your title needs. But all the titles are within the video, not outside the video, from static titles to crawling newsroom type text at the bottom of the video frame. None of the following demos the crawling titles, put the demo'd principles of the Titler may be of help in navigating through the Titler. Premiere Elements 11 and 12 have the same Titler.

Although most of the time Adobe demo's its features in the Quick workspace, I prefer the Expert workspace since you can see better what you are doing and thus have more control of the situation.
After you review all the details for what you are about to do, in mini test runs, explore and experiment before the grand project(s). If you reach an impasse on any technique, please do not hesitate to ask for clarification here. We are all eager for you to succeed.

    Hello Everybody,
Anybody can help me how to use Audio and Subtitles in iTunes under Control/Audio and Subtitles?
Its not active, So, how to watch a movie with subtitles in iTunes?
    Regards,
    Boudy,

Hello Abdelaal. I have the solution for you!
In App Store, there is an App called "iSubtitle" it can merge .mp4 and .m4v files with .srt files! Hereby you can use subtitles in iTunes!
    Hope it helps you

  • Need Help Creating Sound and Subtitle Setup Menu Scripts

Can someone point me to a tutorial or assist me with completing this menu:
    http://www.aviewofyou.tv/mule/setupmenu.jpg
Basically, the user gets to pick their audio in stereo or 5.1 as well as whether or not the want to see the subtitles. So it would be cool to set it up so that that after they pick, say, Surround Sound, the script tells the DVD to play the 5.1 track and then places them on the Play Concert button. Same for stereo and subtitles.

That's easier than you think, and it does not involve scripting.
    Audio section:
Cllick on a stereo mix button in menu editor. Go to Inspector and chose Audio stream that contains Stereo mix. Set button target to Subtitles off button.
Do the same for 5.1 mix.
    Subtitles section
Click on Subtitles off button. In the Inspector select an empty subtitles stream (32 for example) and set button target to Play Concert button
For Subtitles on button select the true subtitle stream and click "SHOW" box. Set button's target to Play Concert button.
That's all there is to it.

  • HandBrakeCLI and subtitles

At this point, I'm just looking for confirmation.  I've been googling, including Handbrake's bug forum, and find no mention of this.
I have mkv files which include subtitles.  Using mkvmerge I can confirm this.  These are srt files, I haven't tried with anything else at this point.  I have confirmed this on a few of them.  At simplest
    HandBrakeCLI -i myfile.mkv -s 1 -o myfile.mp4
And the subtitle comes out garbled, with a bunch of garbage characters--the actual words will be there, but surrounded with symbols, what seems to be Cyrillic, and so on.
This occurs with any version of HandBrakeCLI from 0.9.6 up.  (I wasn't able to build the source of 0.9.5 on Arch, but I have 0.9.5 on CentOS, and was able to install its rpm on Fedora).  I was able to confirm that the same files do handle subtitles properly if using HandBrakeCLI 0.9.5
The oddity to me is that I've seen no mention of this anywhere, and wonder if it's one of those Just Me(TM) issues.  I've only tested this with mkv files that have the subtitles included in the file.  Has anyone else run into this?
I have tried the nightly builds (on Fedora).  I tried various other subtitle options, such as scan and subtitle-burn and -N for native language string.  I'm sure it's not fonts on the machine, because I was able to duplicate the behavior on a Fedora 17 machine with nightly build and svn, as well as have it work correctly when using an older 0.9.5 rpm.
Thanks for any input.  I may wind up cross-posting this question on Fedora and possibly Linuxquestions if I don't get a response, but it always seems to me that I get the quickest answers to somewhat obscure questions on these Arch forums.
The workaround, if anyone is interested, is to use mkvextract to get the srt file as a separate file, then use the --srt-file option of HandBrakeCLI.

  • Video_TS folders and subtitles

    Hey everyone,
I have been trying to figure out a way to get the best result for my media center as well as simply taking movies with me on the road with optimum quality. I have looked at Handbrake, but even from a time perspective it takes like 2x the time to encode with Handbrake versus ripping with Mactheripper.
I have run into a bit of a snag that I am hoping someone may have the answer to; as I am only needing the movies, not the menus, I have been using MTR's "Main Feature Only" function and made sure that I only have the audio tracks and subtitle tracks in English. The forced subtitles do not appear in Front Row 2.0 at all. If I do the same rip, but as a "Full Disc Extraction" the forced subtitles are there and acting properly.
Thoughts? I really don't want to waste the extra space (and time) with the menu systems, what may MTR or Front Row not be doing right with the Main Feature Only function?
    Thanks!

DVDs use a bitmap image to draw the subtitles. If you rip the entire DVD with the DVD menu, then you can via the DVD menu activate an instruction to turn on the subtitles. If you only rip the title then you lose the menu to do this. iTunes, Apple TV (and iPhone) can now be told to 'always' show subtitles but they do not support playing DVDs or VOB files. Front Row has no options at all regarding turning on or off subtitles, when playing a DVD it is the DVD software that does this.
If you have a DivX and a separate .srt text subtitle file then Perian will automatically display the subtitles in software that uses QuickTime (including Front Row).
You can use HandBrake or Submerge to permanently burn subtitles in to the movie image, but this requires encoding the DVD to another format which as you mentioned takes time.
If you want a media manager friendly front-end, and you do not want to have to store the entire DVD, then Front Row is not the right choice. Instead you should look at Plex which is a Mac version of XBMC.
Plex will let you add a collection of either main feature only Rips of DVDs, or even better for this, it will also let you add standalone VOB files (which MTR can make by doing a Title/Chapter rip and merging the chapters, this produces a single VOB file for each rip). These VOB files still contain all the video unconverted, all the audio (even multiple audio tracks), and all the subtitles.
However, Plex (or XBMC) will allow you through it's built-in controls to turn on or off the subtitles, and select alternate audio tracks, even without the DVD menu.
I have used Plex with TV episodes ripped from DVDs and saved as individual VOBs (no VIDEO_TS needed) and it works great. I believe VLC should also be able to play these and possibly let you select the subtitles, but it does not have a library management capability.

  • Record a selected Video, Audio and Subtitle track in low res for proof.

I am moving my DVD Authoring from Spruce Maestro to DVD Studio Pro.
The DVDs I create have 25 languages on them that need to be proofed by 25 different people all over the world. In the Spruce system I could just manually record the output with whatever video, audio and subtitle track that needed to be proofed in a WMV file format and then email the proof version before final burn.
Now in DVD Studio Pro and can not seem to get an analog output to do a manual record. I have purchased an additional video card for my Mac Pro that has S-Video and that does not work. I have the DVI to S-Video converter cable but I can not select that output when it is active. I have tried the export function but that only changes the m2v file into a mpg file, so that does not work.
Do you have any other suggestions - this is very important for my operation.
    Thank you, Ron Cole 209-604-5415

very interesting. I do a lot with translation, though my maximum has been 16 languages on a single disc.
There are a couple things you could do.
    1) One is just to do a screen capture using something like Screenflow to capture and process the single streams you want to output.
    2) I think the first approach is a little arduous. Better would be to use the power of Final Cut even before you get to DVD SP. Unfortunately I don't know your entire workflow. But subtitles can now be done in Final Cut and then carry forward into DVD SP. I'd lay out my edit and soundtrack and subtitles in FCP, and then export a file of my choice and size and have it automatically uploaded. This could be done right out of FCP or by creating a batch in Compressor. Changes, as they came back, would be applied in FCP. Once you had final approval (golden words), I'd move into Compressor to create M2v and ac3 files.
My projects are done with similar workflows. I then have to ship off translated graphics for the DVD menus. That can be dealt with at the end in a finalized disc or preferably sending off stills for an early approval.
    Make sense?

  • Apple TV & ITunes:  Language and Subtitle Options

I've just purchased Apple TV and, I'm disappointed that there are no movie rentals in French and that all of the movies I've checked out don't offer subtitles in French. I thought Apple TV would offer the same features that are available on regular DVDs.
I'm wondering if language and subtitle features are upcoming in ITunes?
Are there, in fact, any French language movies available in ITunes? And so, how do I find them.

that is not an appletv issue, but rather an itunes store issue.
I'm wondering if language and subtitle features are upcoming in ITunes?
no-one here will know what might be added to the itunes store. this is just a user-to-user support forum.
Are there, in fact, any French language movies available in ITunes? And so, how do I find them.
each regional itunes store is different, so it would be impossible for anyone to give an accurate answer unless they were also in the same region as you (and even then they would only have the same access to the store as you do).

How do I turn off UPnP and keep it off.  I turn off UPnP and when I check it has been turned back on.

    same problem here.
    i have a time capsule.
    symptoms:
    excessively searching for network
but more often than not, it cant find the correct netowrk that is correctly stored in keychain
if i try network assistant opened through safari not finding its page, then it can find the right network after i enter in the password again.  it connects. but only for a few seconds then it loses the connection again.
the only fool proof workaround for me is:
1/ shut down time capsule. restart time capsule.
2/ restart mac with airport turned off.
3/ after restart manually select the network from the wireless icon in the menu bar

Hi. Just connected a new Windows Home Server 2011 based server to my network. When trying to setup the server for remote access, the server, after attempying to setup the HH2 reports that the router "doesn't support uPnP". Any ideas?

I am sure that it does. Look under "game and application sharing", on the hub menu, there should be an option to enable uPnP.
Alternatively you will have to map ports manually.

  • Enabling UPNP and SMB in Macbook Pro

    Hi
I was running Universal Media Player on Macbook Pro (OSX 10.8) and my DLNA renderer (TV) was able to detect the server and play the media.
It was issued by my previous company and I returned it when I left.
I joined a new company where I got a Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9) and now I can't share media through Universal Media player. It can't find any renderers and the TV cannot find any servers. I'm using the same router settings and my TV is able to detect the servers from my other home devices.
I have enabled File Sharing and Remote Login in my Macbook's System preferences, and tried connecting through SMB or AFP, but I get server not found error messages.
I have even confirmed that the ports required using "Network Utility". The TCP ports 22(SFTP), 445(SMB) and 548(AFP) are open, but the UPNP(2869) is not open. The network utility did not report even a single open UDP port. Can it scan for UDP ports OR does it mean that there are no open UDP ports which is the main issue?
I also have my firewall turned off.
Still I'm unable to use SMB or UPNP. What is preventing me from accessing them?

I do have a bluetooth keyboard and magic mouse...This means i can work.
But the problem is i need to work out of home, and i don´t want to carry all those things everytime i have to go out.
    And you´re right, i don´t have warranty...
I´m sure i didn´t drop liquids over it. And although it did dropped once when it was new, nearly 4 years ago, it worked just fine for 3 years. About 8 months ago, keyboard and trackpad started to fail, until they just died.
I tried cleaning it and reinstalling OS, but nothing so far.

  • EPC3925 upnp and eth standby issues

    Hello,
I have two issues with my residential router EPC3925 which uses firmware epc3925-ESIP-16-v302r125573.
The ISP has not been able to help because they have no knowledge about this stuff.
The first problem is related to the UPnP feature, when the SmartTV is connected to the network the router becomes unreachable with the effect of being impossible to use Internet with all the computers of the LAN.
The problem happens everytime that the TV or the computers send a M-SEARCH broadcast request that causes the router to be unreachable for some seconds, so even pinging it fails.
Disabling UPnP on the router doesn't solve the issue.
The second problem instead is related to the rj45 ethernet interfaces on the router because if one or more computers go in sleep mode sometimes the router will emit a high pitch noise and is completely freezed, it's necessary to switch it off and on to restore the situation.
I would like to know if these issues are known and how to fix them.
    Thanks

    Hello,
Thank you for your question.  However, this community is for Cisco Small Business Products and the EPC3925 is not a Cisco Small Business Product.
Your product is an internet service provider (ISP) supported product.  In other words you need to contact your ISP or technology reseller that you purchased this from to help you with your question.
