WRT160Nv3 Wireless connection usually requires reset

Hello all, thanks for such a wealth of useful info in other threads, but none deal with my problem.
Generally, I've been very pleased with this router, it worked well for a week or two, but now I can't connect my laptop without resetting it, and I'm back to using a wire which is annoying having bought a fast wireless router. I have had this router for under a month. I do not want to use network magic.
So far I've tried:
Using just my modem - no problem;
using wired connections - no problem
my old router - fine for wires
pointing my browser at 192.168.1.1 - I don't know username or password as I've never used it before
restarting both cable modem and wrt160n - no effect; sometimes works wirelessly for a while then breaks.
Please let me know if you can help. I'm going to return this router in the next week if I can't get this sorted.
Thanks again,
 -Sam

I would suggest you to adjust the wireless settings on the router...The router's default password is "admin" in lower case. However as you do not remember the router's password, you have to reset the router for 30 seconds, power cycle the router and reconfigure the router from scratch.
On the setup page,Under the Wireless tab,Change the SSID to some unique name,Change the Channel Width to 20MHz only and Channel to 11 and click on save settings...Under the Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 >>Click on "Save Settings"... Under the Security tab..Uncheck "Filter Anonymous Internet Requests" and click on save settings..
Power cycle the router and check..

  • AX resets wireless connection to "require a certificate"

I've established connection but, apparently, the Airport Utility resets my wireless network to require a certificate and can't "validate identity" something my Linksys wireless is not set up to do. Is there a Utility setting that does not require or force the certificate? The connection goes on and off, much more off than on apparently looking for the certificate

There is nothing on Apple's base stations that cause such a prompt. What is the AirPort Express (AX) connected to?

  • Wireless Connection Sometimes Requires A Reboot To Work

I have had this going on for about two months. My wireless connection will work fine for a while and then suddenly slow down and eventually drop out completely. A reboot is the only thing that brings it back, but the cycle always starts over again. I've posted a few logs here, but if there is something more someone needs please let me know. The Arch system is the only device on my network that is experiencing this issue. I've also tried adding options ath9k nohwcrypt=1 to /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf. I thought this had worked until today when I booted up and eventually had the same issue. I am running the x86_x64 variant of Arch with kernel  3.18.4-1-ARCH #1. The position of all my equipment remains unchanged so I'm guessing either the card is dying or I have a bug. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Secure Wireless Connection

I have been thinking about getting the iPhone ever since it came out and I guess I was wondering if anyone could answer whether or not it can connect to secure wireless connections that require a password. I am a college student and we have wireless throughout campus but it requires my student id and password to be typed in if it were used on a computer. Thanks for any information.

I have the same problem. I can easily access wireless networks everywhere except at work (a college also). Our system requires both a user name and password. Laptops easily access the network but I can't log on with my iphone. It is a real bummer because our campus has thick old brick buildings and edge will not penetrate them meaning that I am dead in the water without wireless. BTW network wireless at the college is the only thing that I don't have working flawlessly on the iphone. I had two of out best IT guys mess with my iphone for a couple of hours and they said that unless apple gives a fix that allow for both a user name and pass work when logging in that they can't help me. ANYONE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE?

  • WRT54GL - just today it won't keep wired/wireless connections HELP Please

This router is less that a year old and just today it won't keep wired/wireless connections unless I reset the router and sometimes within 5 mins of a reset, it's out again.  I can go into the Admin/Status page of the router and DCHP release/renew the IP from Cox and that works the same as a reset of the modem.
Can anyone give me an idea what this could be?  Cox looked at the Motorola modem and saw that it was connected for 3 hrs (3 hrs prior I rebooted the modem thinking that was my issue) and they didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
I have the latest firmware installed.
Message Edited by u43a on 05-25-200704:38 PM

Are you using any peer-to-peer (P2P) software?  If so, this is a known cause for router slow downs and disconnections.  Go into the P2P software, and reduce the number of connections that the software can make.

Any suggestions on retreiving wireless connection with airport extreme, have unlugged power to all sources and pressed reset button on router, still amber flashing light

    Hello ebulloc,
It sounds like you are getting the flashing amber colored light and cannot connect to the internet with it. According to this article:

I have a MacBook Air, which I just upgraded to OSX Lion. I also have the latest version of iTunes. When I try to stream to the AirPort, the Airport resets, and the wireless connection on the macbook locks up. Any suggestions where to start?

To free up hard drive space the best bet is to move data files that you don't need access to all the time. Likely candidates are music, video, and photos. Things like word processing and spreadsheet files can also be moved but they tend not to be very large and so don't free up much space. The problem with moving the above mentioned files is that iTunes and iPhoto need to know where the files are stored.
Here's an article explaining how to move the iTunes folder. You can move the iPhoto library using the Finder but there is a slight complication. Start iPhoto, open the Preferences and click on the Advanced tab. The first option is "Copy items to the iPhoto Library". If this option is checked, copy the iPhoto library to your external folder (drag it from the Pictures folder to your external drive) and then delete it from your Picture folder. If this option is not checked, it is a bit more complicated and we'll need to talk a bit.

  • Does airplay require wireless connection?

does airplay require wireless connection to internet?

For one, it doesn't need any connection to the internet. It's a local streaming protocol that works over your LAN. No internet required.
As for the wireless component, no. It'll work over a wired or wireless LAN.

  • Wireless connection drops on iPhone4

My wireless connection at home drops frequently on my iPhone4.  It will not allow me to reconnect.  The connection is not being dropped on any of my computers attached to the wireless connection, so my carrier believes it is a problem on the iPhone.  I have tried removing the internet connection and then resetting it, including the password required.  This does not help.  The only way I am able to restore the connection is to unplug and reset my wireless modem.  I am then able to restore the connection, but then I am dropped again after a short while.  Anyone out there with similar problem or with a solution?

Does your wireless indicator on your iPhone show a strong connection? A lot of things could play in to what's going on (the router you are using...other devices in your household affecting the wireless signal, etc). Does this only happen with your home wifi connection or do you experience the same thing no matter where you use wifi? If it's only at home then I doubt it's the phone alone. If you can repeat the same issue regardless of where you use wifi then you might want to contact tech support or go to a local store where they can try troubleshooting. I personally don't have any issues with my iPhone 4 losing wifi connection in my home or elsewhere. The usual things will be first suggested: reset/restart/restore your iPhone to see if that helps.

  • WET54G locking up - requires reset / reboot

    Hello all
We use (10) WET54Gs at separate locations to provide network connectivity to our copiers.  All of the units are V2 with the latest updates.  Each WET54G will lock up after random period of time, usually a few weeks, and then require a reset/reboot to reestablish  communication.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem? Have any suggestions on a fix?
I would think this is a hardware of firmware problem since they have a perfect track record of 10 out of 10 units repeatedly locking up.
    Thanks

Well i dont think all the 10 units of WET54G will have the same problem. May be you must try to check the settings of your wireless router, if required try to upgrade the firmware of your Router.

  • Broadband/internet and wireless connection problem...

Towards the end of 2101 I received an email informing me that BT would be upgrading my local line and I could expect a much improved service. Whether this 'upgrade' has been the cause of my problems or is merely coincidental I cannot say. Prior to my experience since this time I could count lost broadband in hours per year (I never had internet or wireless connection problems).
Since the end of 2010 I now regularly lose my broadband completely every six to eight weeks. 'Home Hub cannot connect to broadband.' There is a worsening loss of speed? over a period of two to four days at the end of which I need to phone BT three/four/five, etc. times until they manage to locate the problem and fix it. It is always some problem they find on the line or with their equipment.
I always mention that this is an ongoing problem. Never do they take any action to escalate the issue.
This week things have become considerably worse.
I have started to lose my internet connection now. 'Safari cannot connect to the internet'.
There are now two issues which arise concurrently.
I phoned BT, finally the operative in India (through a very poor BT wireless phone connection) changed the channel of my router for me. He mentioned something about changing the address and password. This seriously exacerbated the situation. My password is not recognised now when I am asked to reconnect by selecting a network.
The next occasion on which I lost my INTERNET connection and tried to reconnect I got the message 'Airport has the self-assigned IP address (...........) and is unable to connect to the internet.
I phoned BT to report this and was told that this indicated an adapter problem and the problem was now out of BT's hands. I Should contact Apple.
I did so. Apple said I should contact BT to change channels. I explained this had caused the problem and they were now refusing to assist me. Apple tried everything that they could think of to resolve the issue (despite not being required to do so). Eventually the only suggestion they could make as BT had refused to help was to reinstall my operating system. Extremely drastic. But I can now connect wirelessly again.
Service is still intermittent requiring constant restarts to regain connections.
BT's response to a formal complaint was more of the usual banal questions, the usual tests, the usual promises of 'something would be done'.
Their systems are not set up to make any sort of accurate diagnosis of customers' issues. They seem to have a set number of 'fixes' into which they try to fit all problems - one would assume simply to save costs - their cost saving exercises are now costing me money.
    That's all for starters.
    Any suggestions?

I have a temp solution by fitting a time switch to the mains adaptor and reseting it at 0200 each day. but before the upgrade the home hub had worked for years and no problems. i have also replaced the origonal home hub 1 with a home hub 2 to see if that improves the situation.

This subject has been marked as solved by the originator and you will get more response if you start your own subject rather than continue here.
if you start your own subject just cut and paste your post and then in order to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) http://speedtester.bt.com and post the results .
are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Do you have any phone extension sockets in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • WRT54G V8 Dropping wireless connection

    Hello,
I have an issue with my Lynksys WRT54G V8 (firmware upgraded to V8.00.2).  No problem whatsoever with wired connection, however, it appears to drop my wireless connection every 10 or so minutes.  I appear to be able to connect to my neighbors unsecured connection with no problem however.   The only way I can figure out to reconnect is to power the device off and on again.  Disabling and enable the wireless adapter on my laptop does nothing.
Here is what I have tried:
I have moved the device to be closer to my laptop (it is now approximately 6 inches away).
I have changed the channel to be 11 instead of default 6.
I have changed client lease time from 0 to 999
I have upgraded the firmware to 8.00.2
Verified that my SSID is unique
This is the 3rd wireless setup I have done (separate places, 1 office and 1 in my home and this one in my vacation home).  This is the first time I have had any issues.  It is the same laptop, I have the same model of cordless phone in my home as the vacation home.   The only thing I am not sure of is the firmware level of the other two devices.  They are the same model.
Any suggestions before I return this device and buy another model?
    Thank you

After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since the last firmware upgrade, please do this now, and see if it corrects your problem.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.    If the above does not fix your problem, then read on:
There are many causes for poor wireless connections, and many solutions:
Set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. The antenna should be vertical.
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use. If your current network is not listed, enter its info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".
Also, you did not mention what type of encryption you were using.  If you are using WPA2, or "WPA with AES"  (= WPA2 ), then note that Windows XP requires a patch to run WPA2. Go to Microsoft Knowledge base, article ID=917021 and it will direct you to the patch.
Sadly, the patch is not part of the automatic Windows XP updates, so lots of people are missing the patch.
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.
If you continue to have trouble, try the following:
For wireless g routers, try setting the "Transmission Rate" to 54 Mbps. For wireless n routers, try setting the "n Transmission Rate" to 162 Mbps, and the (wireless g) "Transmission Rate" to 54 Mbps.
If you still have trouble, download and re-install the latest firmware for your router. After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
    Hope this helps.

MacBook5,1 Intel Core 2 Duo, while I had been using HP Software HP_Installer_DJF4100_v9.7.1, that was *not* meant for this printer, but I could 'ADD" the printer Deskjet 3050 via System Preferences, through HP Socket,
Looking [unwisely] for a more "functional"  configuration, I looked up HP support and found that a specific software had been released for computers running "Lion".
So I uninstalled the previous DJF4100 software, restarted the computer, and installed the new software and drivers for Lion as indicated above.
Now the printer Deskjet 3050 J610a shows up in the computer's network under 'Devices"  as
"HPJ610a.047DED", Network Type:Computer-to-Computer. It is also detected with "
Security:None", whereas my whole home Wi-Fi network is encrypted with WPA/WPA2 Personal.
I could of course regress to the previous software and configuration, but before doing that I would like to understand why this new software that has been released by HP for Mac computers running Lion is behaving in such a way, why the printer shows as a stand alone device (which it never did before).
As I said, before I regress to the previous configuration, using a software that originally is not the one required by the printer, neither by the computer's operating system, I welcome all information and suggestions.
    I need that wireless connection!

On my Dell Latitude D620, Windows XP 32 bit system and my 6510 printer wireless connection (Linksys EA4500) , everything works fine after the computer is booted.  After a period of time (usually overnight), I lose connection to the printer (the scanner icon with a red x is shown on my Windows task bar and I can't print.  Ran Windows Fix and the HP fix programs.  The only thing that solves it is to reboot the computer.  A second symptom is that my IE8 stops connecting to the internet at the same time (gives a 'waiting for' response that never changes).  Firefox still connects OK when this is happening.  So I suspect the problem isn't with the printer, but with my Windows set up.  It is a fresh XP SP3 install (hard drive crashed, but it happened before also).  I reset IE, checked my proxy, no malware, happens with or without firewalls and security programs.
Hoping that someone else has run into this problem.  Been all over Google, and the IE doesn't work / Firefox works is fairly common, but none of the fixes helps.

Just reinstall your choice of FF. The bookmarks are in a different directory and are NOT overwritten. Some of the Add-ons that worked in 3.6 DO NOT work with 4.0, pay attention and head any warnings when you start 4.0.
I had to disable extensions: Flashblock and WOT
Firefox SafeMode? - A troubleshooting mode.
1.You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the Shft key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut to open it again.
