WRT300N and Comcast : Speed cut by 3

Hello,
I am currently a Comcast cable internet customer. I have my modem linked to a WRT300N which is working fine... except when I look into the bandwidth speed.
When I am connected via the WRT300N (wired) I get 5 mbps download, 2mbps upload.. which is FAR off what I am supposed to get.
I then decided to skip the router and link directly the modem to my computer, and I then got an average of 31 mbps download and 3.7 upload.
There is definitely something going on there, if anyone has an idea.
Both my router and computer are in DHCP, I even cloned my PC's MAC adress just in case.
Thanks

Try to change some settings on your Router .Login to the Router setup page, and below set change the MTU size on  your Router to 1365  and under the 'Security" tab uncheck "Block Anonymous Internet Requests"... Once all this settings are save on your router... Unplug the power from the router and modem. Wait for 30seconds and replug the power to the modem first and wait till all the lights are solid, then plug the power to the linksys router.
Now you can check whats the speed you are getting it on your Computer.

  • EA6500 and Comcast Speed (Wired)

I have been reading all the different messages about this router and speed issues.  I have tried numerous things to fix this but the only one that really works is putting back my old Linksys E4200.
It really does look like there is a firmware issue that causes the speed to max out at 4 to 5 Mbps with a Comcast/Xfinity modem.  With the E4200 I am seeing the speeds I expect of 25 to 29 Mbps download.
I updated the router to the latest firmware from March and just tried it and it still is not working correctly.  I don't know whether to return the router to BestBuy and get my 200 back or wait and hope that it gets fixed.
If someone from Linksys monitors these forums would it be possible to indicate that you know of the problem and are working on a solution or that it is a ways off and won't be touched until the next round of routers come out.
    Thank you,
    Bob

Are you experiencing the issue when wired to the router? You’ve mentioned that using the E4200 router you are getting the expected speed as well as you’ve already updated the firmware to the latest, the router itself might be faulty. How about try adjusting the MTU setting in the router and see if it will make a difference with the speed. For instructions, you may refer to the following links: What is MTU and How to Change the MTU Size & Determining and setting up the correct MTU size. MTU setting can be found under Connectivity -> Internet Settings in the linksys smart wifi page. If there’s still no changes with the speed after changing the MTU size, the router may be faulty.

  • Linksys e900 and comcast xfinity internet speed

I just recently purchased comcast internet today and self installation kit that came with the modem and all..... got it all set up no problems activated did speedtest directly from cable modem to laptop computer wired and was getting 10mbps down and 3mbps up well went out and bought a linksys e900 wireless router.... connected it no problems... however my laptop wirelessly and phones connected to the router with speedtest is only getting 300kbps down average!!! but the upload is still 3mbps.... is there something im doing wrong? any help is appreciated!

The above is not an entirely accurate statement.  What I can says is... 'it depends'.  Depends on your brand of router and brand of WiFi adapter.  I now use a Netgear WNDR3400v2 router with a Linksys AE1000 USB adapter on my Toshiba Satellite laptop.  With WMM disabled in the router, I can connect at 300 Mbps and transfer wirelessly to my downstairs computer at a max rate of 82.5Mbps.  Why only 82.5Mbps?  Well the router and computer downstairs only have 100Mbps LAN connections.  With WMM enabled my connection link is still 300Mbps but my speed is reduced, but not by much. Go figure.  Comcast speed is perfect at about 24Mbps with WMM disabled, only 12-14Mbps with WMM enabled.  And yes it is an N connection all the time.
Using the internal WiFi adapter, Intel 5100 b/g/n I can only get a connection of 9-14Mpbs.  That's right only 14Mbps with all the latest drivers installed.  Comcast speed is only about 7Mbps using the internal WlFi adapter.  WMM enabled or disabled, no difference.
So, it depends.  I suggest trying a cheap external USB adapter like the above.  Only $14 on eBay.

  • BT Infinity - line calibration and possible speed...

    Hi,
We recently had BT Infinity installed (14-03-2013) and the speed has dropped significantly from 37 to about 20mb
Up load seems fairly consistent at 8mb
The engineer told us that the line calibration should only take 24hrs so I'm hoping there is an issue and that we can expect better than 20mb
We've been told to expect at least 25mb although it would be nice to get more
Can you advise how long the calibration should take and maybe check to see if everything is OK?
We have had to reset the router a couple of times
    Please advise
    Thank you

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You should never restart the Modem in the first 10 day period. In the first 10 days it will gather line Information then after it has enough on all levels it will decide where your line performed best at and set it at that speed. It will then continue to monitor the line forever and make adjustments. The reason why it's important that you do not disconnect the modem as the Cabinet (DLM) will not be able to make connection with the modem meaning it is recording this and will compensate by lowering the speed until it has a connection. Also turning it off suddenly can cause error bursts on top of that, so it is vital you give your line the best history that you can give it.
It will always look at previous history it has and make decisions from it. If it has bad history at the start it's very reluctant to actually improve the speed in future because it's seen it's not had good history in the past.  So it will slowly rise the line speed from 12Mbps to lets say 28Mbps. It will increase it increments due to your bad line history, if it has good say you maintained connection for 90 days and you suffered from a power cut and this put your speed to 20Mbps. Over the next 5/7 days you will normally see it jump straight up back to that speed. If you have bad history it will put the speed up slower and it can take 2/3 weeks for it to actually increase the speed as well.

  • Blast speed is currently 2 Mbps/9 Mbps on the Comcast Speed Test. Help please!

I've had the Blast service for quite some time, and have noticed painfully slow internet browsing for the last couple of months. I mean...pull-my-hair-out-slow.  I just did a Comcast speed test and the results were 2.31 Mpbs and 9.01 Mpbs. Um....that would explain things. But not really... as I'd love to see the speeds I'm supposed to have. Even double digits would be nice! I'm trying to run ShaperProbe but I get the error "Servers are busy. Try again later." I've tried a few times. I'll post the results if I can get the scan to work. Power level is 45-46 dBmV and SNR 35-37 Modem: ARRIS Motorola SurfBoard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0Logs of June 2015 (the most recent, and the logs before that are January): Jun 22 2015 07:07:243-CriticalT05.0SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Loss of Sync;CM-MAC=b8:16:19:fa:b8:0c;CMTS-MAC=00:1d:70:af:fd:a0;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0;Jun 18 2015 08:04:503-CriticalR02.0No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=b8:16:19:fa:b8:0c;CMTS-MAC=00:1d:70:af:fd:a0;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0;Jun 18 2015 07:08:273-CriticalT05.0SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Loss of Sync;CM-MAC=b8:16:19:fa:b8:0c;CMTS-MAC=00:1d:70:af:fd:a0;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0;Jun 17 2015 23:08:553-CriticalR02.0No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=b8:16:19:fa:b8:0c;CMTS-MAC=00:1d:70:af:fd:a0;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0;Jun 16 2015 02:43:065-WarningZ00.0MIMO Event MIMO: Stored MIMO=-1 post cfg file MIMO=-1;CM-MAC=b8:16:19:fa:b8:0c;CMTS-MAC=00:1d:70:af:fd:a0;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; I would sure appreciate any ideas. I have not contacted tech support yet, although that may be faster??  We'll see.  Thanks in advance for any help!

ShaperProbe has not been usable for some time, unfortunately. Check to see if Comcast is reporting an outage for your area by logging in to https://customer.xfinity.com/Secure/MyServices/ or by checking the voice response system at 1-800-Comcast.
If no outage is reported, see Connection Troubleshooting Tips. If you want to troubleshoot this yourself and still need help, please provide Information Requested for Connection-Related Posts.
If you are using Wifi it's best to switch to an Ethernet connection if possible while measuring speed and checking the reliability of your connection to Comcast.
If you'd rather have them do the troubleshooting call them at the phone number on your bill or 1-800-Comcast and have them send a tech out to identify the cause and correct it.
If the tech finds bad coax, splitters, amplifiers, or connections in your home (even if Comcast originally supplied them) you'll probably have to pay for the visit unless you have their Service Protection Plan (http://www.xfinity.com/spp/, about $5/mo). If the trouble is due to a faulty Comcast modem, eMTA, gateway device, or anything outside your home, you shouldn't be charged.

  • My DL and UL speed so slow! What is it supposed to be?

It takes me over 4 hrs to download a single 700mb movie, This is crazy! When my mother lived 2 houses down I used her wifif and it took me 20 minutes TOPS.
My best speed I ever got was  a download speed of 1.05 Mbps and my upload speed of 0.29 Mbps
Keep in mind this was the BEST speed I got and I tried over 50 times today. I usually don't even get a 1 in download speed and my upload speed 99% of the time is 0.20Mbps
I just don't know what I'm paying for? This is the reason why I never pay my bill in full because I feel like I'm getting ripped off. I could of sworn I was promised a 2.00 Mbps speed but I don't even come close to that.
I have regular Verion DSL (FIOS not available in my area)
Should I just dump Veriozn with this kind of speed? I heard Comcast maybe buying Charter Cable and that's my only other option. I can't get Charter Internet right now because I'm fighting them..It's a boring story it's basically someone lived in my apartment 8 years ago or even more and they had the same last name of me so Charter won;t give me service until I pay this persons bill and I'm not paying someones bill i don't even know..
So anyways is this kind of speed normal? Is this what people pay for? It seems kind of lame to pay this much for this kind of speed honeslty. I bet this speed is not far off from the old AOL dial up speed!

Please check MyVerizon or your bill for the name of the package you pay for, and report back. Verizon has two plans for DSL: High Speed Internet and High Speed Internet Enhanced. The first package offers speeds reaching a maximum of 1Mbps down, 384kbps up. The second package is supposed to offer anything with a maximum of 15Mbps down, 1Mbps up.
In addition, please report what DSL modem/gateway you are currently using, along with what router you have in use. I'd like to pull your modem's Transceiver Statistics so we can get an idea of how good the line is.
Given that ADSL is a technology that is slowly becoming the new dial-up, it's no surprise you're asking the question about how fast it is supposed to be. Generally, I moan and complain about anything less than 5Mbps when working on someone's computer. If the FCC has their way, "Broadband" may soon be defined as 24Mbps, something ADSL2+ really cannot deliver. The only thing capable of those speeds over a single line are VDSL/VDSL2, Fiber, and Coaxial/DOCSIS service. VDSL/VDSL2 is extremely distance limited - typically past 5,000ft out, it's useless for very fast speeds and ADSL2 makes more sense.

  • Slow motion and Normal speed?

Can I take video shot 720p at 60 fps and use both slow motion and  normal speeds in the same video??

Time Stretch is where I would start. If you need to apply that Effect to only part of a Clip, just use the Razor/Scissors Tool, to Cut that Clip, into the segments, where you wish to apply Time Stretch.
Posterize Time can be effective, as well, but from my reading of your needs, I think that Time Stretch (Rt-click the Clip, or Clip segment and apply).
    Good luck,

  • WRT300N and wireless G

I have the WRT300N and my laptop is only wireless g right now, how do I make it run in super g so i get 108 mbps instead of 54?

That is a great question.  I don't see any clear documentation of the answer on the Linksys web site.  Maybe someone else can point it out.
The general rule is that in order to get the most speed from your router, you must have a matching notebook adapter.  Since you have a wireless-N router, you can probably expect the best performance if you got a wireless-N adapter for your laptop, such as the WPC300N.
If you only use an ordinary wireless-G card, you will be limited to 54Mbps.

    Any ideas what to do?

I would just explain that this just started happening, that nothing has changed on the phone, that it is an original iPhone and I wondered if they are implementing a change in coverage with their Edge network in my area.
If you restore your phone, you will be given an option to back up your phone at the beginning of the process (see step 6 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414).  You will be given the option to restore to that backup at the end of the restore process.  Your messages are stored in the backup so restoring to the backup will return the messages to your phone.  Be sure to import your photos and videos to your computer (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083) and back up your contacts somewhere before restoring your phone as these sometimesget lost in the restore process.

  • Mail and Comcast issues

For the past couple of months my son is having problems with Mail and Comcast. It regularly asks for a password to access and then the password does not work. We "change" his password to the same password and it will work for a day or so and then stop working again. I used Comcast's tech chat to try to fix, they had me changing ports. This did not work and while he was thinking of something else, I changed the ports back and mail worked in both directions. That last for a couple of hours when his password stopped working and we had to reset it again. Any advice from those who have encountered the same issue would be appreciated.

I have this problem regularly, almost always with one particular mail account. I'm convinced it's due to a slow response by the remote mail server. When it doesn't respond fast enough, Mail interprets that as a login (password) problem. Unfortunately there seems to be no way to tell Mail to wait longer for a response.
I just cancel the password request, then use the menu items Mailbox -> Take All Accounts Online or Mailbox -> Online Status -> Take "account" Online. Sometimes that works the first time, sometimes not.

What are the advantages of varying write speeds and burn speeds?

The slower the speed, the fewer burn errors (or, in other words, you'll burn fewer "coasters"). I've always tried to burn at a slower speed, i.e. 2x - 4x. I'd rather wait a few minutes more and I've never had any burn errors.

Updated iMovie on my brand new Mac Mini and lost "SPEED" function.

    Hello bbryson68, I'm sure you've just over-looked it.
The answer is to click on Adjust above the Clip in Viewer, this will bring into view a adjustments bar also above the Clip.
Now you just have to select the speed via the Turtle icon. Once the clip has been speed-up or down, you'll get a Slider
over the clip in question & a Rabbit icon indicating the clip has been speed-up.
If you want to  keep audio undistorted check the Preserve Pitch checkbox above the viewer.
The Clip Slider & icon of Rabbit appear in the Clip-Trimer window below the main Clip, also check your Pref's to see if you have
Apply Slow Motion checked? This will slow or speed up all other clips to the first clip.
