WRT300N - Dropping Signal

Hi there, I am hoping someone could help me out. I am currently running the WRT300n v 1.1 (firmaware version 1.51.2) with a WUSB300n adapter on a Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit desktop. Getting very strong signal all the time but every soo often my connections drops off completeley. Never had any issues whatsoever with my WRTN54G dropping off. My current ISP is Shaw cable, are there any specific settings that I need to apply to stop this from occuring ? Also have a laptop that is running 802.11g adapter, I read somewhere this could be posing issues ?? If someone could please point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

hi ,
Open the setup page for the router

  • Airport dropping signal

I have just got a new Imac have got it onto my home network. Today Airport has begun to drop signal when the time machine is updating. I keep getting messages that say the Data disk isnt connected. I am using a time capsule. I dont get this problem with the 2 G4 powerbooks I have that backup to the same TC. Airport seems to be looking for new networks every 20 seconds.... is this normal?? I havent noticed this on my powerbooks?
    Anyone got any clues??
Just thought. Is there a setting that will shut down Airport when the computer sleeps?? I have it set on never sleep at the moment and display sleep after 10 min.
Thanks for any help that you guys can post!
    Cheers

Mine has dropped a couple times the last day or so.
I'm thinking it was the security update they just
released. It had some stuff in there related to
    airport. Did you install it?
Yes, I did install it. But this was happening before the secuity update. I think it's more likely related to the firmware upgrade I did. Did you do that one?

  • Dropping signal on both Wired PCs WRT54G.........Help!!!!!

Ok Im lost here.............Ive got a WRT54G V8.......I have two wired computers and both are having issues dropping signal. One PC is Vista and the other is XP. If I disconnect the router and run one PC on the dsl modem it runs fine with no issues on either PC. I tried to access 192.168.1.1 and all it ever gives me is the famous Page cannot be found........I drop signal when im on the internet and it takes forever to find a page or it comes up Page cannot be found....usually all I have to do is refresh the page and the page appears fine. But what makes no sense is both PC's do this and Ive tried the modem directly hooked up to both PC's and it works fine...............HELP PLEASE

Leave the modem disconnected from router .... reset the router for few seconds .... after reset check the Ip address you are getting on Local area Connection .... if getting any valid Ip try to login to setup page ....

  • My Iphone 5 keeps dropping signal (no service) in good service areas?

Help my iphone 5 keeps dropping signal saying no service then after a while it gets service again, sometimes this can take up to an hour. Also if i toggle airplane mode it sometimes comes back or if i switch the phone on and off it comes back. This is happening in areas of good signal. Back in January my phone did get wet but i dryed it off and its been faultless ever since apart from this recent problem of no signal. I have an Genius appointment booked for this Thursday to see what they will do about it, will they just blame it on the water eventhough i have seen this problem time and time again on the Internet and the best way seems to replace the faulty phone.?

Try restarting your iPhone. Press and hold the power and home button for 10 seconds and then turn your device back on. Otherwise, the place where you currently are may not have very good signal for ATT.

  • Time capsule dropped signal - use as client only?

    Hi all -
A two part question/dilema if you can bare with me.  Trying to learn/understand as well as get myself the best setup.
My TC is nearly 3 yrs old and has always been my router and backup, no problems.  I moved and in the new house find that the TC was dropping the internet signal to my computer.  I had optimum come out twice to check the signal to the house and it was fine.  The TC sits in a wood tv cabinet and there are two basic house walls btwn the TC and computer.  Interference should be nill.
I have an airport express in the same room as the TC for airplay.  This worked fine.  One day i moved it from say 5 feet away into another room, 25 feet away, and found the airplay would not function.  When i moved it back closer to the TC worked great on again.  It seems anything 20 feet away the airplay stops working.
What are the odds that my TC has lost signal strength over the years and/or has a glitch and drops its broadcast signal?   Or is there a chance a setting is wrong that is causing a weak signal between the devices..... my computer for internet and the express for airplay?  Even without an internet signal from outside shouldn't these two devices be super fast speaking to each other on my home internal network without flaw?  Can i test this?
For the second part of my inquiry, if i get a 3rd party router to be the main source of wireless:
    1. Can i hook up the TC to "strengthen" the 3rd party signal without interfering?  My fear is that if TC broadcasts i'll run into the same weak/dropped signals on devices that hook up to it overe the 3rd party.
    2. Can i make the TC a non-broadcasting "client" only unit for backups only?
    3.  Can my airport express "extend" my 3rd party network without worry of weaking the signal?  Or am i better off using "client" only if i know the 3rd party provides a strong and clear wireless signal?
thanks very much in advance.  I went from never dropping an internet signal to now losing the internet and having airplay working only when TC and airport express are 5 feet from each other.  this can't be right, not for apple products!
    Cheers,
    Joe

Wi-Fi devices don't degrade in the manner you describe.  I'd blame a difference between your old and new houses.
What Wi-Fi band are your clients (and the AirPort Express) using to connect?  If they're using the 5 GHz band, selecting one of the higher-numbered channels (149 and up) can significantly increase the broadcast power.  I'd also select "Use wide channels" in the "Wireless Network Options" panel.
I suspect that the problems you're seeing are due to too weak a signal.  You can investigate the signal and noise level that each of your devices is seeing using the advice in the second message of this thread.
I won't try to answer your question about third-party routers, as I have little experience with them.

  • Airport Drops Signal

I was havving troubles with AirrPort for some time. I reviewed the posts and everyone suggested the new AirPort upgrade was to blame. I reverted back to 5.5.1 but still have the problem of weak signals and droped connections. I was very frustrated and I spent a day backing up iTunes, iPhoto, Documents.....
I did a complete system install. I wiped the HD and proceeded with a new system, avoiding the AirPort upgrades. I felt this would solve the issue, but IT DIDN'T. I continue to get dropped signals and significant drop in signal intensity despite all this.
Has anyone found a solution to this issue?
    Steven

If it makes you feel better, I have had the exact same problem that you describe, and I am at a loss to explain it. The wireless signal just drops randomly (I have an iBook G4 with an AirPort CARD only). This does not happen on my windows pc that is in another room, and uses the same wireless router. My wireless connection had worked for months before this without problems, and I have not moved my iBook or my router in the last several months.
I also have been able to rule out the recent software update, even though it was initially what I suspected. Here is another interesting wrinkle - I took my iBook to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store yesterday, and while waiting (45 minutes or so), I could NOT replicate the problem. My wireless connection was fine the entire time and never dropped. The "Genius" and I brainstormed, and could not come up with an explanation, other than some new type of interference in my building. He advised me to try a new installation, but it seems many of us have tried that to no avail.
A lot of people have viewed this topic, so I suspect there are more of us out there with this problem.

  • My Airport keeps dropping signals!!

I am losing my mind!!! We have an airport extreme base station connected to our Vonage router from the DSL modem. It was all working just fine and then one day it just started to drop the signal throughout the day. It does in and out but still shows that I have full signal in the airport bars in my top menu. I tried the internet without the airport and just plugged directly in from the DSL and it worked perfectly. I also tried it with the airport out from the DSL and leaving the vonage router out of the equation and it dropped signals . this tells me that it is the airport.
In the house we also have two other airport extremes. they both extend the range of our network and one of them is used to connect to the stereo for itunes.
My system all worked fine before the system update and now it doesn't. I am at a total loss and am exhausted from trying to deal with this anymore. is there a soloution floating around in here that i am simply too frazzled to see?

I don't know if this is the solution or not, but I noticed after the 10.4.5 update, I could only see access points on channel 6.
My own access point was on channel 1 and I couldn't see it or connect to it, even with the SSID being fully broadcast. I changed the access point (Linksys WAP54G) to channel 6 and I'm connected for over 2 days with a rock solid connection.
I still do not see any access points in my neighborhood, including my second access point which is on channel 14 (Linksys WRT54G).
Let me know if this works for you.

    Sparkus

  • Bandwidth usage/signal strength/dropped signal WRT160nv2

    Three questions
    1. How can I determine how much bandwidth each of my network devices are using.  Is there anyway to tell using Linksys easylink which is installed on my machine? I have a WRT160nv2 router.
    2. Is there anyway to boost signal strength through internal settings. If so, how do I do that.
    3. Been experiencing dropped signal for some wireless devices. Is there any way to determine why this happens and is there a fix for this problem.
    thanks

    1. Sorry no.
    2. Sorry no.
    3.  Change these settings in the router.  Disable UPnP, under wireless settings Beacon Interval 50, RTS and Fragmentation threshold 2304.  Change to channel 1.  Save settings.   Reconnect.

  • Airport Drops Signal - UPDATE, no fix

I've been having the same problem as most of the people in this forum right now. Dropped or weak airport signal, even though your sitting right next to the router. People have seemed to attributed the problem to firmware updates on the card or the basestation. It happened to me right when I updated to 10.4.4 and the APEX to 6.3, right around the time of Macworld.
So I went to the Apple store today to see if the genius bar could help me out. The 2 guys there had seen the problem recently in a few other computers, and we were able to diagnose it as a software/firmware problem. They had no official information directly from Apple about the problem, but assured me that they watch these boards and probably know about this problem.
Their diagnosis was to either send the PB in for a $300 repair, which wouldn't fix it anyway, or wait for the next update and hope that that fixes it. Not the answer that I wanted, but at least I know i'm not going crazy.
Can we find a way to fix it temporarily? Anyone been successful downgrading firmware or doing an erase and install? Has anyone had a different result finding a fix? I'm really not enjoying being tethered to my 20 ft ethernet cable right now.

I actually tried that a while back, but no luck. It doesn't seem to be an issue with my basestation. I know alot of people have had fixes when they downgraded firmware in their Airport Extreme Base Stations, but for me, its and issue with my Powerbook.
I know this because i'm using a Dlink router. But i tried my APEX basestation and still no luck. Went to my mom's house and couldn't see her network. Tried it at work and weak and dropped signal there. The final nail in the coffin was at the Apple store where I could barely pick up their network while I was surrounded by macs that had full signal.
I did an archive and install, downgraded to 10.4, and then tried to install the updates one by one, no luck. I checked the firmware on the card, which said 3.5.something, but it was still not working. I went throught all the updates and the signal never got better. I set-up new users, trashed preferences, reset PRAM, fixed permissions, all the regular stuff, still broken.
I KNOW it's an issue with my computer, not the basestation. I did get a pop-up window that asked me to upgrade my airport when i installed the 10.4.4combo update. I'm wondering if that did it.

  • Workaround for dropping signal in MBPro and A Extreme Basestation

I've been struggling with an erratic signal in my MBPro 2Ghz 2 Mb, week 15, when used with wireless networks. I tried most of the workarounds posted elsewhere and nothing seem to work. In my case, I would acquire a wireless connection, and then I would watch the signal drop in level, then rise, then drop. Eventually, after the computer was put to sleep, it would never reacquire the network. With the Airport Extreme Base station (v5.7), this was most annoying. I changed all possible settings and preferences, zapped PRAM, reinstalled the system, tried all channels, interference options, etc. I tried with the MBPro literally underneath, a couple of inches away, from the base station, and I could always reproduce this. I set my PowerBook G4 15 1Ghz Ti next to it, and it worked flawlessly, the signal level steady as it could be at max.
I then thought it could be a problem only when in 802.11g mode. So I switched the base station to only work in 802.11b. Voila! Everything is good, the signal is now at max and steady. Wake from sleep now acquires the network fine too. I then switched the base station back to 802.11g/b mode, and the problems came back again. Then, I tried switching the base station to 802.11g alone, and again all was good! In my case, it seems that setting the base station to work only in 802.11g or 802.11b instead of in mixed mode solved all my connection problems.
I have now been running a couple of days without a hitch. I am not sure why working on a 802.11g/b mixed setting would cause problems. There are four computers connected to this base station. Two have Airport Extreme cards, two are older macs with airport (802.11b) cards. In this setup, and maybe someone may correct me if I am wrong, the whole network reverts to work only at 802.11b. So I am not sure why setting it to work only on 802.11b solves the problems for the MacBook Pro.
Any clues why this could be working?

I can confirm this as well. I'm a networking engineer by trade and I use a Juniper Networks NetScreen 5GT Wireless for my home AP and Router/FW. When it's operating in 802.11b/g mode, for some reason, my 15" MBP (brand new) would get ~20-30% packet loss to the WAP itself. Same MBP on an Ethernet connection to the NetScreen gets 0% loss. Sitting my MBP right next to my IBM ThinkPad, same wireless SSID and network (802.11g) the MBP would get the 20-30% packet loss with the ThinkPad getting 0%. I changed the AP to 802.11b ONLY or 802.11g ONLY and the MBP get's 0% packet loss. Turning on debugs on the AP indicate heavy errors when it's in a b/g mode ONLY on the MBP.

  • Mac to Apple TV Apple TV drops signal

I have an ongoing problem with my MacBook Pro and AppleTv.
I turn on mirroring to Apple TV on my Mac and everything starts out great!  Then a few minutes later Apple TV drops my Mac signal.
This behavior happen when writing a Word document, viewing a mov webinar recording, participating in a live WebEx and/Adobe Connect webinar or training session, etc.
Any idea what is happening and how I can make Apple TV mirroring reliable and persistent?

    likely wifi network interference
connect both by ethernet to verify this
when it's verified you start working toward getting a more stable wifi network
using a different wifi channel then other wifi networks is a good start
changing from 2.4Ghz to 5Ghz is another

  • WRT300N dropped wireless completely

I've had this WRT300N for several years and it has worked very well.
It suddenly dropped all wireless connections and no one can re-connect.  My main pc is hard wired directly to the router and works perfectly as always.  3 wireless pc's and 3 handheld devices suddenly can't connect.
I've powered down my modem and router for several minutes, but nothing changed.  The firmware was upgraded a long time ago and there are no other upgrades available.
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks

  • Dropping signal when computer sleeps

I am having trouble with the wireless network dropping off every time the computer sleeps. Each time my iMac sleeps from inactivity when I start it up again I get a disconnect message and have to go through diagnostics to get the airport extreme to run again and then everything is fine.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Eric

I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro. Even using signals in my Preferred Networks list after it sleeps it drops the connection and a re-start is the only way around the problem.
    Any advice appreciated.
