WRT300N has no access from wired to wireless addresses

I have a WRT300N that I used just for wireless access till now. If I connect two devices to wired ports they can see each other. All of the devices connected wireless can see each other and access the internet. Communication from wired to wireless doesn't work. I can't ping a wireless device from a wired one or vice versa. Firmware is latest as of 1/9/08. Settings are factory default other than turning on WEP. Any ideas?

Try the following test:  Connect a computer by wire to the WRT300N.   Verify that you can get a working Intenet connection.   In the computer, turn off any software firewall, including Windows Firewall.
1)  Can you get a properly working Internet connection?
2)  Can you ping 192.168.1.1  ?
If you cannot ping 192.168.1.1 then perhaps this is not your router's address. Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key. Look at the "Default Gateway". Is it 192.168.1.1 ?  Try to ping the "Default Gateway" address.
3)  What is listed as the "Default Gateway" address?
4)  Can you ping the "Default Gateway" address?
If you still have problems, maybe you have not gotten your software firewall completely turned off.  Some firewalls are hard to turn off.
If you are using Zone Alarm, right click on the ZA icon in the system tray (lower right corner of screen) and then click "Shutdown ZoneAlarm", and see if this fixes your problem. If this does not work, try the following with Zone Alarm: Open the ZAISS control center, go to Privacy, then temporarily turn off Ad Blocking and Cookie Control, and see if that fixes your problem.
If you are using Noton Internet Security with the Add-on Pack, be sure to turn off the Pop-up Blocker. Some users have reported that they needed to uninstall the entire Norton Add-on Pack.

Not sure what you are talking about.
Your ITUNES account can be accessed from any device or computer that has itunes, as long as you have your username and password.  Using your itunes account from another device does not affect your ability to use the account from your device.

I heard some folks switching over from that carrier but winding up getting new devices. Did you port your number over to our network? If so, did we suggest getting a new device? Share some details.

  • Outlook 2010 disconnects when switching from wired to wireless

A Windows 7 Pro 64bit laptop with Outlook 2010 keeps disconnecting from the exchange when switching from wired to wireless or vice versa. Then it wont reconnect. Restarting Outlook occasionaly works, not all the time.
Holding CTRL and clicking the Outlook symbol in the notifcation area they connection status and reconnect doesn't work either.
The only way it will reconnect apart from restarting the machine is to restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service on our Exchange server.

  • Help, account has been accessed from another machine or device ?

Is there anyway to see what machine or device my account is being accessed from ? I got this warning when I was trying to purchase an app on the itunes store.."Your account has been accessed from a new computer or device, and you must verify your payment information beofre you can make purchases" Is there a way to see a list of ip addresses or something to see who's been accessing my acount ?

If you are getting a message to contact iTunes support then you can do so via this link and ask them for help (on these forums we won't know why it's appearing) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • It says "your account has been accessed from a new computer or a device"

When beginning to proceed to check-out and starting with my Billing Info in MAS I got a warning that I have accessed from a new computer or device and I have to verify my sec.code, though I have never accessed my Apple ID account from any new iDevice or a computer. No problem with verifying but I'm curious for why it said so?

    I thought Dah•veed's answer was spot-on.
But even if I did not specify then would it help if "The folks here can't give you a detailed answer"?
Why would we tell you something you did not ask for or that won't help?

  • Vista Ultimate: Local Network Access Only (Wired and Wireless)

Alright, I am not very experienced working with Windows Vista, and I'm having serious trouble solving this problem. I've been searching for solutions for two days and not found anything that works.
The computer is a Compaq Presario A900 running Windows Vista Ultimate (Service Pack 2). My brother used the computer's wireless internet connection for four years without problems, but lost all internet access when he returned home a couple months ago. The
computer will connect to any network, but has the message "Unidentified Network - Access: Local Only".
The computer first had the problem trying to connect to the Internet through an iPhone's Wifi connection. It happened again on the wireless network at my home. I took the computer to work to test it with a wired connection and had the same result.
I originally thought this was only a wireless problem and completely uninstalled and reinstalled the Atheros wireless card drivers.
I have completely disabled the Windows Firewall and removed all Anti-Virus (Avira free was installed - Norton is not on the computer). I have tried Safe Mode with Networking, and it does not fix the problem.
I ran a Fix-It yesterday that was supposed to fix specific registry errors, but that did not solve the problem either.
I also found a solution on this website that involved enabling sharing. One user said it fixed the problem, but it did not solve it for me.
The only thing I am certain of is that this cannot be a problem with the router. All three places I have connected have various other computers connected constantly: The iPhone regularly connects a different Windows Vista-powered laptop, Windows XP Desktop,
and Windows 7 netbook to the Internet. My wireless router successully connects a Windows XP Desktop, Windows 7 laptop, and Macbook. Obviously, the wired connection at work successfully connects over a dozen computers.
I'm out of ideas on this one...thanks.

    Hi,
I've been having a similar problem; am not able to connect via wifi at our new home, but am able to connect easily at an internet cafe. Obviously, I'd like the convenience of getting connected at home! :)  Getting  "unidentified networK"
and local only access. Also had the same problem with  the yellow ethernet cable  & LAN, but finally found a partial fix online somehow so am at home using the internet now. But it is still a PITA, because every time I  step away to take
a break from the computer, it goes to "sleep" and loses the connection, so I have to do a restart to get the internet connection back. And it would be much nicer to get the Wifi problem fixed, so I can move around the house to a more comfy spot rather
than being shackled in the corner by the yellow cable!  :D
I will attach a screenshot of the ipconfig as suggested above, but am not all that savvy, so would appreciate step-by-step instruction how to solve this problem. I've tried a lot of suggestions, but nothing has worked yet... hoping someone here can help. Thanks
    in advance!  :)
oops! edit to add: grrrr, it wouldn't let me include the screenshot unless I verify my account, which I have not figured out how to do yet... another hurdle!

  • Moving TM disk from wired to wireless

Can you do an initial backup onto an external disk via firewire (from a MacBook) and then plug the disk into airport extreme to subsequent wireless backups?
    thanks!

    sherthang,
The short answer is "no." Time Machine uses a different method to store the backup(s) when they are network-connected, making the two incompatible.
Now, I have seen anecdotal evidence that Time Machine can be "spoofed" a bit in order to get the job done. It involves beginning with a new Time Machine backup over the network, then interrupting the backup to switch to a "wired" connection. You would then complete the initial backup while wired, and finally move the backup drive to its network location for future (smaller) backups.
I haven't tried this myself, but I have seen reports that it works. I don't have much faith in Time Machine's ability to re-start an interrupted initial backup, but any problems I had in this regard were from the initial release of Leopard (with no updates). Time Machine has had several fixes since then, and as I say, I have seen reports that this method works.

  • WRT54GS Changeover from Wired to Wireless (Vista): Duck Soup!

I've owned my WRT54GS router for nearly three years and had initially bought it as a wired router (with an option to go secured wireless later), but I'm used to thinking that wireless was primarily for laptops and notebooks (even though I've actually used wireless-enabled desktops before in independent coffeshops).
However, something happened that changed my tune about desktops and wireless.
A friend of the family has been having issuesd with his new Vista Home Basic-powered wireless-enabled desktop (Linksys wireless router and USB adapter combo) and brought the computer and adapter (but not the router) to me for a checkup.  Since I was already running Vista on my own computer, and also had a wireless Linksys router (albeit one used strictly as a *wired* router), I figured I'd give the router and adapter a test and see how easy it would be to connect.
Since I left the *wired* connection up so I could get some settings from the router's admin pages, it was depressingly easy to convert this previously wired-only PC to a true secure wireless (WPA no less) desktop, using nothing more than what's included in Vista.  Six mouse-clicks (and a copy-and-paste) later, and I was done.
Old (four years old) PC, three year old router, gone secure and wireless (G for now).
Maybe I *should* consider N as an upgrade.
Wireless: it's definitely not (just) for laptops anymore.

You have to change the workgroup in Vista from WORKGROUP to MSHOME and your XPs will appear under network.

  • I want to download a free ap, i get the verification required message and sign in. But then i get a notice telling me that "Your acct has been accessed from a new computer or device, and you must verify your payment info before you can make purchases."

I noticed that my credit card info is old.  I'm wonering if that could be the reason for the notice.  OR does it reallly mean that my account has really been accessed by another source?  Of course, this is the first time seeing this and it's Easter!

It means that is is the first time that the device that you are using has been used to make a purchase in the iTunes Store.

  • Going from wired BEFSR41to wireless WRT54G, won't connect

I am trying to install a new wireless router (WRT54G) and removing my existing wired router (BEFSR41).  However, I have followed the connection instructions and it does not recognize the router (not connected).
Also, I have Vonage VOIP router (RTP300-VD) and I tried to connect the network without connecting this router.
What's the proper way of replacing this wired router to wireless?
    Please advise. Thanks.

    HI,
can you post a few more details , such as which is your main router that's hooked direct to the modem ? and also the IP of the VOIP router.

  • AirTunes Streaming: Wired to Wireless

I'm looking to use an AirPort Express to allow someone to stream their iTunes music from their wired-only G5 to their stereo in the living room. This person has a DSL router with Wi-Fi capabilities and, in fact, has a hotspot set up, for occasional use by her husband.
    My question:
if I connect the AirPort Express to the existing hotspot in client mode, what are the chances that I can stream music from the wired G5 over the router to the stereo, going from wired to wireless. To my mind, as long as the G5 and the AirPort Express are all on the same subnet, this should work just fine. Put differently: if the router uses the same DHCP scope to dish out addresses for wired and wireless clients, I should be fine, right? Am I missing something?

If the G5 is connected to the DSL router by Ethernet and the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is also connected to this same DSL router wirelessly, then yes, the G5 can stream iTunes to the AX.

  • Trying change my credit card info from previously lost credit card but can't since it says I'm accessing from new device and asks for security code for a card i no longer have. What can I do?

I've recently gotten a new laptop and replaced my damaged iphone. Apparently these 2 scenarios qualify as "new devices". This is fine but I also had lost my credit card previously that was connected to my iTunes account, and got a new one with all different numbers. When I try to change my billing information to this new card it won't let me because it says
"Your account has been accessed from a new device, and you must verify your payment information before you can make purchases."
and it asks for the security code of the card I had lost and replaced! I am not able to change my billing info to my new card thus because I can't get past this.
