WRT300N, Sony laptop only connects at 54mbps

I've got two laptops which connect to this router.  The Dell almost always connects at 270mbps.  The Sony never connects faster than 54mbps.  The Sony is four months old, and has an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN network adapter.
What do I do to get the Sony up to the same speed as the older Dell?
TIA.

Follow th ebelow mentioned settings and check if that helps.

  • Wireless N only connecting at 54mbps

I just upgraded my system to N (from a linksys G with 2 APs and a MOT CM with built in G)... I've got all linksys routers (2 w/gigE, 1 without). I disabled the wireless on my mot CM... so the only 3 broadcasting should be the 3 wireless N linksys guys I just bought. I try hooking up my computers (I've got a MacBook Pro with an Atheros 5008 chip, wife has an HP, forget what it has in it) and both are only connecting at 54Mbps, but show having an excellent signal strength. Any ideas on how to debug this?

If you are using G adapter on the wireless desktop or laptop then you will get speed upto 54Mbps .... not more than that ....

  • WRT320N: devices only connect at 54mbps

I just installed a WRT320N for someone's home network, with the intent of providing better speed for network printing.
Unfortunately, all four of his n-capable Windows computers will only connect at 54mbps. Four different computers (Win7, Vista, XP), each with a different brand/model of n-capable network adapter.
I suppose I could try setting the wireless to n-only instead of "mixed" and see if that helps. However, he's got a couple g-only devices as well, so that wouldn't work.
I tried updating the firmware to latest/greatest - no effect.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

    Try the following settings:
    # Open up the browser on the desktop and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 that will open up the Router setup page…
    # Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your routers main/ basic setup page)
    # Then click on the wireless Tab, select Wireless Mode should me Mixed , Channel Width to 20 MHZ and Channel to  1, 6, 9, 11….
#Adjust the following advanced wireless settings:
~~ Lower the beacon interval from 100 to 75
~~ Lower the fragmentation threshold from 2346 to 2306
~~ Lower the RTS threshold from 2347 to 2304
    Now check the connectivity status.

  • IMac only connecting at 54Mbps

I have a Linksys WRT-300N and my iMac supports N, but whatever combination I do it only connects at 54Mbps. All of the other N devices connect at 130Mbps, but the iMac is the only one that doesn't... which really ***** when sharing media.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

So I changed to WPA2 and it connects at 130Mbps. Amazing...

  • Laptop only connects to wireless internet in one room

I have a Toshiba Satellite L675-S7104. I have wireless internet, and the laptop will only connect in one room. However, my work laptop and other devices are able to connect all over the house. Also, at times, the internet service cycles on and off about every minute! The first problem is the more common one, though. Any suggestions?

...Comcast states it is not a problem with their connection since other devices connect....
Common story with Tier 1 support personnel. Apples and oranges really, just because other units connect does not necessarily mean the router is not part of the problem. Regardless, let's assume Comcast has ensured the router has the latest firmware, as there's nothing we can do about that.
First, try to follow the various suggestions in this article and see if that helps the situation at all:

If there's no improvement, try this driver from Toshiba Europe, it's a newer version than the one on the USA site. This is a zip file, so you'll have to extract all the files and run setup.exe to install it.

  • WRT300N and laptop inconsistent connectivity

Once of twice a day I boot up my laptop and find that it has lost connectivity to the WRT300N. I'm usually able to restore it by pushing the reset button or fiddling with the software (I'm never quite sure what it is that I do that restores the connection successfully).
I have security enabled and when it works, it works great. What should I be looking for in order to make the connection more stable?
    Thanks,
    Nic

It seems that router setup page is not loading 100% .....
Disable firewall & antivirus software ....
Click start >> control panel >> Internet option >> Under ganeral .... click delete cookies & files .... click clear history .... click OK ....
Try opening once again the setup page....
If it still shows the same kind of page ....try upgrading of router firmware ...

  • HP Pavilion laptop only connect to the internet when security is turned off

My HP Pavilion laptop running windows vista sp2 connects to the internet only when wireless security is turned off on my airport extreme (brand new purchased last week). Once I set-up wireless security my laptop shows local network access only and I lose my internet connection. Also, when I try to get back into the setup utility I get the following error message “an error occurred while trying to access the apple wireless device” and I cannot make any changes to my airport extreme set-up. I have tried many restarts and resets, but have only been able to connect properly with my laptop when wireless security is off. Additionally, during my setup attempts, my iphone has always had internet access. Greatly appreciate if anyone can offer ideas on how to fix this.

Have you tried resetting the modem and restarting your computer?

  • Access connection can only connect at 54Mbps

I'm running Access Connection 5.50. My W500 has Intel Wifi link  5300 AGN with PAN (driver 13.0.0.107). Going through AC, I can only get 54Mbps connecting to a TP-Link WR841N AP (BGN) but using Windows Wireless Services, I get 130Mbps. I have another T61P not running AC and it also gets 130Mbps on the same AP. What could be the problem?

Same problem here with HP 8530W + Intel 5300 AGN : just 54Mbps while other Wifi clients do get 150Mbps from my AGN router (Netgear WNDR3700). Luckily also solved, this way:
download & install Intel Proset Wireless http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&keyword=%22proset+wireless%22
go to properties of Wireless settings, either using Intel or Microsoft Wireless manager. Edit the profile of the SSID, and set the band to 2.4Ghz specific. Takes a bit of searching, in Intel it's under Advanced profile properties.
Set the router's wireless security properties to use WPA2 (PSK) + AES  (not TKIP)
Re-connect, be sure that "2.4 Ghz" is still enabled at the client
    Voila, 300Mbps instead of 54Mbps

  • Laptop only connects up close and personal

My router used to live a foot away from my laptop on my desk.   I re-arranged my office and the homehub is now about 2 yards away.   Laptop keeps dropping connection, saying there is no internet connection, not seeing any connections at all.   It behaves the same in other offices or homes.   Tried the usual stuff like changing channels or uninstalling/re-installing the network adaptor.   May have to give laptop a **bleep** good thrashing.   Any more sensible suggestions most gratefully received.
    Thanks

  • Why is my laptop only connecting to the base station at home and not other wireless networks?

I can't connect to public wireless networks. I connect to my work wireless through 802.1X connection, but in other places my wifi just looks for the base station, and doesn't pickup available public guest networks. Any assistance is appreciated!

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

    Hi,
Based on the following link, your printer ONLY has USB connection therefore you have to connect it to your laptop
       http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/sm/WF06b/18972-18972-238444-3328086-3328086-3645081-3645101.htm...
    HP ePrint
    No
    Standard connectivity
    1 Hi-Speed USB 2.0
    Optional connectivity
    None
You have to buy more hardware to be able to put the printer to your home network.

  • Connecting 5700 with laptops' only digital AND analog output

    Hi everyone!
Although I'm an experienced creative user this is the first time I'm posting. I looked trough the forums but I couldn't find any answer to my question and I hope this is not the "n"th time it is asked...
I have Inspire 5700 Digital speakers and I recently bought a Sony VAIO VGN-FES laptop, with an Intel 945PM Express chipset, which features Intel HD audio. In the sound setup utility of Sigmatel HD audio, there is even an option to enable digital SPDIF output, which I enabled. But when I connect the digital din cable to my laptops only output jack (headphones...) I have no sound at all...
I thought that it may be due to the fact that the jack is not digital only. But I still want to have real digital 5.1 audio. So could anyone tell me how I can do that?
    Thanks beforehand!

    Addlclove,
in the sony forums the answer I recieved was that the headphone jack was normally 2.1 analog, but I didn't receive a fulfilling answer to my query about the reason to the spdif setting in the setup utility and the chipsets features. That's why I came here The only output I have on the computer is the one for the headpohes. But there is a docking station that I could buy, having an optical out.
    And Jason-CL,
You're right, I used to have an Audigy, and I understand that you're saying that I can't do it through the headphone jack, right?
