WRT310n and apple tv. Playback stuttering

I have been downloading movies through my wrt310n from ITUNES to watch on my Apple tv. After 10 or 20 minutes of playback the image starts to stutter for a second every now and then.  It has happen with every downloaded movie so far. Any advise on what the problem might be. Is there any suggested setting for connecting the router to Apple tv?
Thanks

I would suggest you to reduce the MTU Setting on your router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...On the main setup tab select Manual and change the MTU size to 1400...Power cycle your router...
If the above fails, try downloading same movies from different websites and see if that helps...
If the above fails, you may try to upgrade your router's firmware, reset and re-configure the router...

This problem started a couple of months ago.  I can watch live and recorded things on my ipad with no problem at all but as soon as I change to Apple TV it starts.

  • Audio and video playback stuttering...sometimes

I'm having issues with audio and video playback stuttering at times in several applications. It's the same kind of skipping or stuttering in each application, whether it's iTunes (version 10) or YouTube or Netflix (Safari). I can also hear it when I'm just adjusting the volume via the keyboard, the "clicks" stutter.
I'm not running anything other than iTunes and Safari at once, the iMac has 2 gbs of RAM, it's running Snow Leopard. It also will work sometimes for a while. I just can't figure out why it will work sometimes and not others. Any ideas about what the cause may be? Quicktime X have anything to do with it?

    Quicktime wouldn't work either.
Until you max out your ram, you are pretty much stuck between a rock and a hard place.  In the meantime, make sure you have the latest versions of
    Adobe Flash Player
    Flip4Mac
    VLC Media Player
    Perian
    Movist
I'm noticing that in general it's running extremely slowly now, even with only the browser running.
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.

  • I've just installed iTunes 11, and now my playback shuts off on Apple TV. Suggestions to fix?

I've just updated my iTunes to 11, and now my playback shuts off on Apple TV after a few songs. My Apple TV is up to date and everything worked just fine yesterday. I've restarted everything and think I've checked all settings that might affect the shutdown. This is very frustrating as I was putting together a presentation for a party. I'm on Mountain Lion (all up to date too).
Help, please. I'm out of ideas and ready to reach for the hammer.

Posted this in another forum -- maybe it will help you.
Round number 2.  Updated iMac and Windows7 PC to iTunes 10.5.1 (42).  Home sharing broke again!  Verified working prior to my update on Windows PC and Apple TV2.  Tried a lot of things to make it work, but here is what I had to do:
    1) Rebooted my router (all but ATV2 is wired ethernet).
    2) De-authorized/Re-authorized both iMac and Windows PC; rebooted both
-- This got home sharing to work between both computers; ATV2 still was not working despite turn off/on home sharing, reset, change IP, etc.
    3) On iMac, turn home share off, then back on.  Now all three working.
In the end, I might have just tried step 3 (turn off/on Home Share on iMac), but now I've no way to verfiy -- that is until the next new release of iTunes.
Apple -- this is crazy.  I enjoy your products but having to run through these steps every time is a turn off.

  • While ripping DVDs to my computer for playback in itunes, ipod, iphone, and apple tv, is there any way to rip a single copy that is supported by the previous devices?

My current problem is that when I rip a DVD to an iphone/ipod touch format with my ripping software, I have to convert the file to one supported by apple tv when I want to play the movie in apple tv.  To clarify, I wish to rip the DVD once, with no file conversion in itunes, for playback and transfer to iphone/ipod touch and apple tv.  I assume there is way to this by altering the ripping settings, perhaps trying 600-900 kps per second.  I hope that there is a way to rip a DVD that can be played in the iphone and apple tv.  Thanks in advance!

    No. Have you tried:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

Why does my 16gb 6th generation ipod nano skip and stutter during playback?

    Try a hard reset first.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button
until the screen goes dark. The Apple logo appears after a few seconds,
    and then the Home screen.
If that doesn't work, try a restore of the device in iTunes.
Otherwise, does this skipping and stuttering only happen with certain tracks?  What format are these tracks in and where they come from (outside of iTunes or from the iTunes store itself)?

  • DVD playback stutters, freezes

I made a DVD from old family movies as a Christmas present for my siblings. I used iDVD to make the disk image, converted it to an ISO file on the Mac using OS X's Disk Utility, and burned it on my PC. (My Mac doesn't have a Superdrive, so I used Nero to burn the ISO image on my PC, and did a bit verification when it was done to make sure the burn was good.)
It plays fine on the Mac, but on a consumer DVD player, the disc plays for maybe 20 minutes, then the video starts to stutter, and eventually the DVD player makes clicking noises and stops playing. The same disc will play longer in a PC, but it eventually stops there, too. The slide show part of the disc doesn't play at all on the DVD player, and plays poorly on a PC (a recent Dell laptop).
This is a real bummer for me - I worked a long time to make the video as good as I could get it from 50 year old films, and on the Mac it seemed to play perfectly.
So, is the issue with iDVD (and I need to start over with a PC-based authoring package like Nero or Easy Media Creator)? Or is it something else?
Any suggestions are appreciated - I really would like to get these films moved onto DVDs my family can watch (instead of using them as coasters).

    Hi There,
DVD playback stutters, freezes after about 20 minutes. I scoured the net for answers to this dilema and spoke to the highest technicians at apple who couldn't help me.
Through much frustration and many bad burnt discs I asked them to replace the DVD burner in my new G5 - Voila it stopped.
The answer is replace the burner in your Mac.
Hope you fine this the answer to your problem

  • Playback stuttering in itunes 11.1.8 using W7

Having sudden issues with playback stuttering in itunes 11.1.8 using W7.
Tried adjusting the playback rates with no luck. I'm a music educator and not "just" listening through iTunes for pleasure. I need to have my files available for flawless playback in classroom situations every day. Please help!

I was having the same problem and I just retried listening to my Motown station. It's working now. Problem with Apple's servers(?)

  • JVC GZ-HD7 .tod files, playback stutters in QT but playback fine in iMovie

I know there had been posts in other threads about this or similar, but I see that most had been answered, so I though it best to create a new thread for my specific questions.
I am able to convert my .tod files either in QTpro (using the JVC provided plugin for QT and simply doing an export) or using MPEG-SC 1.93beta. What I am trying to figure out though, is what has worked for others in getting the best quality from the .tod files, specifically when filming in 1920x1080 and not 1440 cbr mode.
It was recommended to use the Apple intermediate codec in a different thread. I have tried this and the h.264. The h.264 had the largest file size after export and the least amount of stuttering but it was still there. As a test I used only a 2 min clip.
It isn't a deal breaker since once the .mov's are imported into the timeline of iMovieHD they playback perfectly. But I would like to be sure that I am exporting correctly and able to playback the raw clips in QT.
Lastly, could anyone share with me how long it is taking to convert their clips and what methods used. It took me 1 hour to export a 9 min clip to .mov, and even longer for a straight import into iMovie without converting the .tod file first (drag the .tod to the clip pane.)
    Thanks.

Also, this is really stupid, but I have never set up a batch convert for file in MPEG-SC...Can you tell me how this is done so I can start a batch and come back to this machine in a week or so.
As with most things, the specific workflow may depend on a number of different factors. In this case, it may depend on the specific version of MPEG Streamclip in use and the specific nature/variation in processes required. In all instances, however, batch processing is intiated by selecting the "Batch List" List menu option. If you are using the latest 1.9b3 version, you can then:
    1) If performing a series of the same, simple, basic conversions/Demux operations (e.g., dumux a all of the SG1 season 1 VOBs to elementary streams), then simply press the "Add Files" button in the "Batch List" window and enter the specific information as requested. (I.e., select source files, how to prepare them, what conversion/demux operation is to be performed, specify the target name/destination, etc.)
    2) If you are performing more complex actions (e.g., converting a series of 16 x 9 source files to different cropped/scaled aspect ratios like 1.85:1, 2.35:1, and 2.40:1, then I would use the normal "work" window to select each source file and enter the different/unique settings desired for each and then press the "Batch List" button in the "Work" window to add destination file information and transfer all of your settings to the batch list.

  • IPad mini and Apple TV Airplay movie rental?

I rented an HD movie on the iPad mini IOS7.X and tried to Airplay it on my TV using The latest Apple TV. It would only play for a couple of minutes before it timed out the Airplay feature. This sequence happened several times before I gave up and just watched it on my iPad mini which was a bummer cause I paid extra for the. HD version

  • ITunes for Windows, QuickTime, and Apple Application Support

*The relationship between iTunes for Windows and QuickTime for Windows*
Conceptually, you don't go too far wrong thinking of iTunes for Windows as a gigantic QuickTime for Windows plug-in. QuickTime for Windows provides the audio and video playback capabilities for iTunes for Windows, the codecs iTunes for Windows uses for importing and burning CDs, and so forth.
So, under normal circumstances, if you uninstall your QuickTime for Windows your iTunes for Windows will no longer launch. The exception is if you install a different application such as QuickTime Alternaltive, which also provides QuickTime playback capabilities. However, most such applications (QuickTime Alternative being a good example) are themselves built from actual QuickTime program files. So there's really no getting away from the requirement to have QuickTime for Windows componentry installed on your computer in order to get your iTunes for Windows to launch and run.
In addition to needing some QuickTime for Windows installed on the computer for iTunes for Windows, a given iTunes for Windows version will require *at mininum a particular version* of QuickTime for Windows to be installed on the computer in order for that iTunes for Windows version to run. For example, iTunes for Windows 5.0.0.35 requires at least a release version of QuickTime for Windows 7.0.2 to run correctly, iTunes for Windows 6.0.0.18 requires at least a QuickTime for Windows 7.0.3, and so on. The same applies for solutions involving other programs like QuickTime Alternative. An iTunes for Windows 6.0.0.18 would require an installed version of QuickTime Alternative to made from (at least) QuickTime for Windows 7.0.3 componentry in order for iTunes to run.
The most straightforward way to go about getting your iTunes for Windows launching again after you've uninstalled your QuickTime for Windows is simply to reinstall QuickTime for Windows. You can get the latest version of QuickTime for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 from the following download page at the Apple website. (Use the download link that doesn't mention iTunes.)
    [Latest QuickTime for Windows version|http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download>
*The relationship between iTunes and Apple Application Support*
iTunes for Windows uses a number of the same program files as other Apple software for Windows (most notably, QuickTime for Windows and Safari for Windows). Starting with iTunes for Windows version 9.0.0, QuickTime for Windows version 7.6.4, and Safari for Windows 4.0.4, program files common to more than one of the programs have been stored in a single location: "Apple Application Support".
So, if you uninstall your Apple Application Support (using the Add or Remove programs control panel in Windows XP, or using Programs and Features in Windows Vista or Windows 7), your iTunes for Windows 9.0.0 (or higher version) will no longer launch ... because several essential program files for iTunes for Windows 9.0.0 (or higher version) will have been uninstalled.
At the time of writing this user tip, Apple Application Support is not available as a "standalone" download from Apple. It is only available as part of the installer bundles for the most recent versions of iTunes for Windows, Safari for Windows and QuickTime for Windows. So if you have uninstalled your Apple Application Support and your iTunes for Windows 9.0.0 (or higher version) is no longer launching, the most straightforward way of getting your iTunes for Windows launching again is to uninstall your existing version of iTunes for Windows and reinstall the latest version of iTunes for Windows. (The iTunes reinstall should also reinstall your Apple Application Support.)
    [Latest iTunes for Windows version|http://www.apple.com/itunes/download>
If, however, you've uninstalled both your Apple Application Support and your QuickTime for Windows, the most straightforward way of getting them both reinstalled is to download the latest QuickTime for Windows installer from the Apple website. (Use the download link that doesn't mention iTunes.)

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • NO AUDIO with QuickTime Pro and MPEG-2 Playback

I just purchased Sony Camcorder (Sony DCR-DVD610 DVD Handycam Camcorder with 40x Optical Zoom) and recorded some movies. But when I tried to view it through my iMac (Version 10.4.11) the MPG format files wouldn't played.
So I purchased "QuickTime Pro 7.5" and "MPEG-2 Playback" -- Well, the movies finally played BUT NO AUDIO at all. I also downloaded several supported codecs but still failed -- NO AUDIO.
Anybody knows the answer?. Please help -- Thanks much!

So I purchased "QuickTime Pro 7.5" and "MPEG-2 Playback" -- Well, the movies finally played BUT NO AUDIO at all. I also downloaded several supported codecs but still failed -- NO AUDIO.
All DVD camcorders I've seen use AC3 for audio. As QT Kirk pointed out, this audio format is not supported natively by QT which is why you need the latest Perian or the A52 codec installed.
The camcorder comes with 3" DVD+RW. Since my computer is iMac with CD/DVD drive slot on the side, I can't play the 3" DVD. The drive only play the regular 6" CD/DVD...
I believe Rick was trying to find out if you can connect the camcorder via the USB cable (closing iMovie '08 if it opens) and access the movies at the file level directly from the camcorder. If you can see the files on the camcorder, then they can be copied to your hard drive and/or opened in MPEG Streamclip for viewing/conversion to iMovie '08 "edit" compatible file formats. The free MPEG Streamclip application, together with the $20 MPEG-2 Playback component which you have already purchased, will allow you to convert your video files to DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264 video with DV, AIFF (Big/Little Endian), Uncompresses, AAC, etc. compatible audio. DO NOT CONVERT TO APPLE ANIMATION OR APPLE VIDEO COMPRESSION FORMATS as they will import and edit but not export properly from iMovie '08. DO NOT USE QT PRO (or any other QT application) TO CONVERT YOUR FILES as this work flow will not retain the original audio content. (I.e., your original QT Pro conversion attempt may have lost the original audio content and, if so, no added component will now allow you to hear the non-existent audio.)

  • AE CS3 HD exported Quicktime playback stutters!

    Hello AE wizards,
The Problem: After exporting our HD After Effects project to QuickTime the playback stutters just a bit. It will run along fine and then it jerks/hiccups. This happens at various times during playback. We have tried many different export settings but no luck. We would really appreciate some help with this. Thank you.
About our project: We are creating an intro animation for viewing on our computer monitor and for DVD. The movie will be made up of only High Res photos separated into several layers to create a 3D effect. We import the .psd files, add the layers to the timeline and check 3D layers. We create space between each layer on the z axis and then move a camera through the scene. The project dimensions are 1920 X 1080 and the photos are as big as 2000 px X 2000 px. The movie length is about 2:00 min.

Yes. I've viewed your quicktime and...
The stutters are actually already in your animation, they are NOT being caused by playback issues.
You can see this by single frame advancing through your animation, you will quite often encounter frames where nothing changes when compared to the last frame, and you then get a jump on the next frame. This means frames are being dropped during rendering of the animation or the master file you are using has gone through some sort of frame rate conversion. Probably you have converted from 24 frames per second to 29.97 frames per second which requires repeating a number of frames/fields per second (5.97 frames) , these repeated frames will destroy the illusion of smooth motion.
    Heres something you can try:
Check the original animation file by step framing through one frame at a time. Do you see frames that are exactly the same as the previous one? If the answer is yes... then you need to re render the animation, try doing it at the same frame rate you plan to output (29.97fps).
If the answer is NO... then just use the native framerate of that file to do the rest of your project. ie. DONT upsample the framerate to 29.97 or anything else.
The other option is (if the actual real time sync of the animation doesnt matter) to go back to your original animation file and just play the 24fps animation at 29.97 at one to one frame. So we discard the playback rate of the input file (24fps) and just display one frame of the input for each frame required at the output. This ensures that the motion will be smooth, (because we are not repeating frames to keep the duration the same) however it will be playing back slightly faster.
I happened to find this topic because I'm researching how to get smooth playback of quicktime movies on a desktop screen. Its actually proving incredibly hard. Even if you manage to create a master file that actually has your smooth animation in at 24fps... chances are Quicktime will frak it up for you... because it dynamically changes the framerate on playback to suit the display anyway.
If your on a Mac then your desktop is probably set to 60Hz (Which really means 59.94Hz). So re-rendering your 3d animation at 29.97 is probably your best chance at getting smooth motion in the final viewing.
