WRT310N drops wireless.

On a regular basis, my WRT310N will lose wireless functionality, but only when my laptop is connected to it wirelessly and I turn it off suddenly or it goes to sleep or hibernation. When I turn it back on or wake it up, the PC works fine, I can see other wireless networks in the area (So its own wireless adapter is working) but I can no longer see the SSID of my wireless network setup on the WRT310N.
I've tried rescanning, rebooting my PC and it all works fine. There is nothing wrong with my PC. No matter what I do with it, I can see and connect to other wireless networks. I can also plug a ethernet cable from the WRT310N router and connect to my network, but not wirelessly. The only way to bring wireless functionality back is to reset or reboot the WRT310N. I have always go to my router, unplug it, wait a second and then plug it back in. After it boots back up, it works fine, but only until my laptop gets turned off or goes to sleep.

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly
the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the
router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power
cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable
to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug
in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!
Open the setup page of router using 192.168.1.1 then put in the
password as admin...all you need to do is do the wireless settings such
as Radio Band Frequency to Standard 20 MHZ frequency, channel to 11.
Also, the advanced wireless settings to Beacon Interval=50,Frag
thres=2306 & Rts thres=2307 & then uncheck a Block Anonymous Internet
Requests & it will definately work!!!

  • WRT310N Drops wireless capability over time

I have a WRT310N that is approximately 30 months old. I could not find a marking to tell if it is V1 or V2. The firmware is the same as it was delivered with.
THe device has performed flawless until a two weeks ago when the wireless side started dropping. It drops the wireless ability after an extended period of time. The time can be from as little as a few hours to 3 or 4 days I have read the posts about upgrading firmware and now I'm wondering why, if the device worked for 30 months that it now needs new firmware?
The only fix that I have found to restore the wireless side is to power down the device, wait about a minute then power it back up.
Is it time to retire this device or is there a sound solution?
    Thank you in advance.

How many wired and wireless computers do you have in the network?
Is the connection dropping on only one wireless computer or all the wireless devices?
If the wireless connection is dropping on only one wireless computer then it might be the issue with the wireless adapter on your computer also.
Try changing some wireless settings on the router.
Connect the computer to the router and open the setup page of the router. Go to Wireless tab and change the wireless channel to 11. Save the settings. Go to Advanced wireless settings sub tab. Change the Beacon Interval to 75, RTS and fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings and power cycle the router.
Try to connect to the wireless network and observer the wireless connection.
Update the drivers of the wireless adapter on your computer.

  • WRT310N V2 Repeatedly Drops Wireless

I have a WRT310N V2 wireless router, with a WMP600N dual-band PCI card in my computer, using Vista 64x.  I have had the same set-up for the past year or so, even after moving to a new apt, which I have been in now for 3 months.  It has worked perfectly, up till recently. Over the past week however, my router has been dropping the connection, to the point of having to wait for it to show back up in my connections list.  I made no changes to my setup, prior to the problems.  I am kind of doubting it's my wireless card, as I can still see other routers.  I have tried changing the MTU size, the Threshold, made sure the firmware was up to date, etc.  I re-installed the drivers for my NIC and even changed ports, just to be on the safe side.  I don't know what else to do, except go out and get another router.  I have to use wireless, as I have nowhere to run cables at.  I had this problem before with a Linksys wireless router, but figured it was due to the extreme amount of bandwidth my game uses online.  Ironically, both routers are doing the same thing.  They hit lag every 60 seconds almost on the money.  I'm a gamer, so this is a huge inconvenience for me.  Any help would be appreciated.

The connection is dropping on only one wireless computer or other wireless devices also.
If the connection is dropping only on one wireless computer then you can try to update the drivers for the wireless adapter.
If the connection is dropping on other wireless devices/computers also then it might be because of wireless router.
Try to upgrade/re-flash the latest Firmware on the router. Download the Firmware file on your computer. Open the setup page of the router. Go to Administration tab and click on Firmware upgrade sub tab. Browse the Firmware file and upgrade the firmware. While upgrading the Firmware of the router, your computer should be connected to the router with the Ethernet cable.
After upgrading the Firmware, it is recommended that you should reset the router and reconfigure the router.

  • E3200 - Dropping wireless connection on the Mac

Pros: Gig Eth switch, no front-facing indicator lights, familiar web interface...
Cons: WiFi Protected Setup doesn't belong. Continually drops wireless connections to my Mac Book Pro (but none of my other devices), which worked just fine on the E3000 this unit replaced and works perfectly on other WiFi networks. REALLY SLOW web interface - average time to move from one page to the next is something north of 9 seconds. Again, never a problem with the E3000 that this unit replaced. Price? I wouldn't complain about price if this thing actually worked as expected.
Other Thoughts: I'm hoping it's just a flaky/defective unit and not indicative of the overall quality of newer Linksys products. Firmware isn't the issue - it's running the latest one from Linksys' site.

First of all please verify that you have got a 802.11n card in your computer. New generation routers (i.e. E3200) speaks an entirely different language with 802.11g cards, so while those adapters can work with the E3200, but they are not optimized to provide good performance. It is like having to translate from one language to another in real time when going from N to G.
Well, there are few things you should keep in mind with regards to N routers:
    1) For the best possible speeds, you need to be using WPA2-AES as your security mode. Any other security mode will see your speed/range capped.
Any G devices in your wireless network will tend to hamper the performance of your overall network.
Ensure that your router is running the latest firmware from homesupport.cisco.com The new firmware includes performance enhancements and fixes.
The router by default uses a channel setting of auto, which means that it would keep switching channels depending on the interference. I’d recommend you set it to a fixed channel. Usually, 1, 3, 6 and 9 give you the best performance depending on your environment of course. I’d suggest you try different channels, observing each for a while, to see which gives you the best performance. You can follow the link here on how to change channels.

  • I've read others' posts on this issue and still need an answer that works. Safari keeps dropping wireless; no issues on a Dell laptop with XP in same room. Cleared cache, etc. - any other ideas?

I've read others' posts on this issue and still don't have an answer that works!  Safari keeps dropping wireless connection every 5 - 10 minutes (it's gotten progressively worse over the last month). My husband, sitting 10 ft across from me, has no issues on a Dell laptop with XP so doesn't appear to be the router or ISP. Safari v5.0.6 Mac OS 10.5.8. Cleared cache, tried kill commands in Terminal, restarts, etc. Only restarting seems to keep it at bay for a period, but then it will start again. Any other ideas?

You posted a question about a problem connecting a Mac to a wireless router. You have an old Dell laptop that works well with that router.
I pointed you to a brief discussion with another poster who had a problem connecting a Mac to a wireless router. He had an old Dell laptop that worked well with that router. I suggested he upgrade the router firmware. He upgraded it, and the problem was solved. Another poster in that thread did the same thing, and his problem was also solved. Within the last day or two, I made the same suggestion to a third poster in another thread, and his problem was solved too.
Conclusion: Upgrading the router firmware helps sometimes.
If I understand your response, you think that checking for a firmware update isn't even worth a try. Am I missing something?

  • WRT54G keeps dropping wireless connections

Wired connection to the router works fine. But it drops all the wireless devices (PC, phone, tablet) multiple times each day, sometimes only 30-60 minutes after reconnecting. Power cycling the router "fixes" the router and allows reconnection. There are 2 topics in the FAQ section that looked helpful:
Getting poor or no signal from a wireless router
Top causes of dropping wireless connection on a Linksys router
but clicking on those does not bring up anything. Anyone know where to find those 2 FAQs? Any other ideas for what might be causing this?

Hi. You may need to do firmware upgrade on your router as is the case these days for legacy routers.  What is the hardware version by the way? You can find it at the bottom of the router right after the tiny print of the model. Access homesupport.cisco.com and search for the model. When you get the router's page click downloads below support sections and from there you have to select the hardware version, once you do that you will see the firmware version for the said hardware version. Usually it is a bin file when you save it and you can open that one on the router's page. Once you access your router's page go to Administration and click Firmware Upgrade and select the file you downloaded from the website. Make sure that you do this upgrade with a computer plugged-in to the router. When upgrade is done, you do a 30-second reset and unplug/replug the router also for 30 seconds. You may refer to this link http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=4030.
As for the link for Getting poor or no signal from a wireless router, I found this one from Cisco's public kb site but not able to for the other one but I believe they are related.
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=d9a3b1b2039741948a2365b053a93ea8_3759.xml&pid=80&r...
Try to change channels as well on your router: you can try 1,3,6,9. Make sure the router is placed at least 3 feet above ground and check the antenna as well if it is still okay.

  • WRT54GX2 Drops Wireless at Random

Standard wireless set up connected to a cable modem, used WPA encryption and MAC Address restrictions on my devices for security, disabled SSID Broadcast, running on Channel 6. Firmware is the most current available from Linksys. The router drops Wireless every 20-30 minutes or so and I have to unplug it and plug it back in. On the verge of returning it to the store, but wanted to see if I was missing something.

check for any wireless interfence (cordless phone, microwave). try also changing the channel from 6 to 11, 1, 2. and the advance wireless settings : RTS 2304 abd Fragmentation threshold: 2304.

  • E3000 - Drops wireless for my iPads

The issue I am experiencing with my E3000 router is that it drops wireless for my ipads. I have found no root cause or behavior. It can go for days with no issues but will then drop the devices after just a few minutes even after a reboot. I have a fiber optic internet connection and am running the latest router firmware. Last night I updated the router settings using a guide I found on your support page.
This has been an ongoing problem since I purchased the router.
    Thanks.
    Brent

    1) We have Mac computers, XBox 360 wi-fi, Wii, iPads, one PC laptop and a Blackberry (on wi-fi). It seems to drop them all, but is most noticed on the iPads. We have two SSID's (one for 5Ghz and one for 2.4Ghz). We can sometimes simply switch between the two and get the connection back, but then other times even that doesn't work.
    2) We have no wired computers. I do have a separate wired XBox, wired Blu-Ray, and wired DVR, but have never thought to check them when the wireless has dropped. Will try to the next time it happens.
    3) See #1 above.

  • WRT330N Dropping Wireless Connections

I have a WRT330N which I have been using for a while with a couple of wired connections and 3 wireless connections.
It has been working great for months, but has suddenly started dropping wireless connections.  I basically haven't touch the thing since I set it up and it has worked flawlessly.
Any idea why it would suddenly start behaving this way?  Nothing else about the environment has changed either.
    Could it be dying?
BTW, it will drop connections with a system literally sitting right next to it.. so distance isn't an issue.

Try to upgrade the firmware of the router .
And also do not use any electronic devices in the range of router .

  • WRK54G dropping wireless connections

    Hi,
    I have a WRK54 firmware Version 1.56.01
It keeps dropping wireless connections and can't get back on, requires restarting (power) the router to allow wireless working again.
I have set the MTU to 1300
Doesn't allow me to update the firmware, error "Upgrade action is not finish!! Upgrade file pattern error."
    Using Windows XP SP2
    Any ideas?
    Regards,

Are you trying to Upgrade the firmware on your Router from your Wireless Computer? If yes, then you can Hardwired your computer to the Router using an Ethernet Cable and then try to upgrade the firmware of your Router....
If still you are Unable to upgrade the firmware on your Router, then you need to Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable..... Now you can try to upgrade the firmware on your Router.

  • WRT310N Drops Connection

    Hello,
    I recently purchased a WRT310N (version 2.0) after using a WRT54GL for years.
Here are my issues with this router:
    1. After updating and saving settings the router will drop its IP address and won't renew it without a reset.  Connections to the router are fine, but no web access.  My WRT54GL doesn't do this, both using the same modem.
    2. I am using port forwarding to remote desktop into my PC.  I can connect initially for about 5 seconds but then the router drops connections and requires another reset.  I have reset the firmware to factory defaults twice and setup nothing but port forwarding.  The disconnects still happen.
I require remote desktop to this PC for work so it's crucial we get this functioning ASAP. It doesn't make any difference whether I'm using wired or wireless connections.  Issues are the same.

As you upgraded the router's firmware,I would suggest you to reset the router for 45 seconds and reconfigure all the settings again.Reduce the MTU value to 1350 and click on save settings..Under the Security tab..Uncheck Filter Anonymous Internet Requests.Power cycle the router and check..

  • IPhones and iPods ALL drop wireless at same time-but not iPad??

In my family, we have mutliple Apple devices online at the same time.
    iPhone 3s
    iPhone 4s
    two iPods
    iPad 2
I also have two work laptops and a personal laptop, all running Windows 7. Plus, I also have an XBOX 360 on a Linksys wireless gaming router (older one...can't run WPA2 security, only WPA)
They are connected to internet with Netgear WNR2000 wireless router, running WPA security, up to 54 GB/s (I believe on 2.4 GHz).
    HERE'S MY ISSUE:
About once every day or two, all of my iPhones and iPods will drop off of the wireless network - at the SAME TIME.  However, every other device in my house is running perfectly smoothly on the network.  Including the iPad 2, which never has any network issues.   The "fix" is, going over to the router and cycling it off and on again.  But that is not a real fix.
The dropping is kind of random, sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the evening.  But usually after several hours after a recycle.
I have tried all kinds of router channels,1 -11, I have tried WEP and both kinds of WPA security (AES and TKIP).  I cannot do WPA2 because of my older Linksys access point.
The problem started happening when I added security to the router.  But I do not want to have the router without security any longer, so removing it is not an option.
Does anyone have any idea why all of my iPhones and iPods would drop the wireless network at the exact same time, however, my iPad 2 and every other device in my household NEVER drops?
I have already tried renaming the network, and that doesn't help, and I have tried moving the channel around - no better.  I am trying reserved IP addressing for my i-devices...but am not optimistic. (I read about trying this somewhere...)
Please help!  If someone could at least help explain what is common between my iPhones and iPods but not common with the iPad it might help me figure this out.

    @wjosten
I agree that network interference can cause problems. I have surveyed the other close networks and tried multiple channels, same result.
But if it were bad channels, I don't know how that would explain why only the same set of iDevices would all be thrown off network at same time (and it's always the same ones),  while my other devices all work fine.
My router is only single channel, so everything is on the 2.4ghz band.
