WRT310N gigabit router, constant issues

i would use some kind of format to post this but i dont even know where to start, i have had nothing but issues with this hardware since i got it. we will start with my laptop, my wireless card and networking software is flawless, i can connect to even the lowest quality signals with ease and run them fairly smoothly, but when i try to connect to this router i get nothing but problem after problem. first thing is if i go more then 30 feet from it despite getting a full single strength reading from my laptop it drops the signal every few seconds, when i try to re-connect it tells me my wireless security key is incorrect, i enter the correct key and it says its incorrect again, and no matter what i do its incorrect unless i get like 2 feet away from the thing i try to connect with my ipod touch and i get an ever worse experience than with my laptop, i literally got out a ruler with this one, at 9 inches i lose half my signal, at 18 inches i close connection completely and i cant even pick up that there is a signal! thats not even two feet away and its like it dosent exist! i try to connect with my nintendo ds and no matter how many times i try it always says the security key is incorrect i try to connect with my Wii and i get absolutely nothing and not only are they in the same room they are within 5 feet of eachother. i got better connection off a $16 nintendo ds wi-fi dongle , i dont even want to return it to the store

This might be the router's firmware problem. All you need to do
is download the tftp file from
ftp.linksys.com/pub/network website.save it on to your desktop.Also
download the firmware file from www.linksys.com/download for your
router.
Once, you download the firmware open the tftp file...put the ip
address as 192.168.1.1 with password as admin & browse the firmware
file from the desktop & click upgrade...
wait till the firmware is upgraded...make sure you reset the router
for 30 secs in such a way that power light should be blinking on the
router...power cycle modem & router....then check whether firmware is
upgrade or not by opening the setup page of router.
Also, make sure that you disable the firewalls & antiviruses on your
computer as the router is having the built-in firewall in it...with
all these simple settings your router should pull up the setup page of
router without any issue...don't worry this will definately work.

  • Is the WRT310N Gigabit Router REALLY a Gigabit Router???

All the detailed verbage on the Linksys website for the WRT310N and the PDF Data Sheet all describe this new Gigabit Router as having a built-in 4-port 10/100 Switch.
How can a Gigabit router have only a 10/100 switch??
Shouldn't it have a 10/100/1000 switch like the other Linksys Gigabit routers???
I am interested in swapping out my trusty old WRT54G V1.0 router for a new fangled gigabit router to go with my 10/100/1000 Dell desktop and soon to purchase Playstation 3.
Does the box of the WRT310N or the user's manual of the WRT310N say it has a 10/100/1000 4-port switch??
    Thanks,

Well...  After visiting Best Buy and looking at several boxes of Home and Professional Linksys Routers and Switches...  I am pretty much convinced that the WRT310N DOES NOT CONTAIN A GIGABIT Wired Ethernet Switch.  And that the words "GIGABIT EDITION" on the box of this router may be misleading and is being used for marketing purposes...    Someone from Linksys please tell me that I am wrong and that your website is incorrect and your packaging is incorrect on this subject.
Nearly every other GIGABIT Ethernet Linksys product says it has a 10/100/1000 Wired Ethernet Switch.  The WRT310N retail box is silent on the subject.  The Linksys website says the WRT310N has a 10/100 ethernet switch.   I don't care that Draft "N" gives me speeds greater than 10/100 wireless.  I want a 10/100/1000 WIRED Ethernet router/switch that just happens to also have a wireless component.
The Linksys website for the WRT350N, the WRT600N, the WRT330N and the WRVS4400N all brag that they have 10/100/1000 Wired ethernet switches.  The retail boxes for these items also list 10/100/1000 ethernet switch.   The WRT310N retail box says 10/100.
The WRT310N may work well...  But, I'm sorry, a 4-port, full duplex, 10/100 switch IS NOT GIGABIT WIRED Ethernet....
If I am going to dump my current 10/100 Wired Linksys setup for GIGABIT setup, I want to make sure I am getting the full GIGABIT 1000BaseT Wired Ethernet.

  • New router = constant activity outgoing!

I've replaced a DOA Microsoft G router, Installed a new NetGear N300 last week that generated repeated DoS Attack:STORMs and also hung occasionally - returned it - and got a Linksys E2000 today.
Both the new routers were installed and exhibited something I had never seen before using the previous setup. CONSTANT outgoing activity.
I only know this because I am running Little Snitch (an internet/network monitor program for OSX). The activity is being generated by - mDNSResponder - and outgoing to - dns-cc-lb-01.rr.com - (I recognize the last bit as being part of Roadrunner Cable - my ISP provider.)
I've tried resetting everything, restarting everything only to have it continue. It's a bit disconcerting to see outgoing data and I would like to stop it if possible. Anyone know what this is exactly?
    *A second issue*
The E2000 is a gigabit router, but when I connected it to my 10/100 wired home network - it didn't show up. Connecting directly, it works fine on Ethernet.
If I need to chuck it all and go for a new Airport Extreme to solve these issues - so be it. It's getting frustrating.
FWIW - the NetGear UI was quite good - the Linksys is poor.

This is part of OSX: I quote:
Mac OS X v10.6 uses the mDNSResponder process for unicast DNS (Domain Name System) functions, as well as Bonjour functions. Disabling the mDNSResponder process will also disable unicast DNS resolution, and without unicast DNS resolution, Mac OS X v10.6 cannot resolve hostnames such as www.apple.com.
The same article gives a method for disabling it:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3789
However it probably isn't actually transmitting very much information - many routers 'announce' their presence but it's only a few bytes, insignificant compared with normal traffic.
Open Activity Monitor in Application/Utilities and scroll down the list of process names to find mdnsresponder: you will see how much of your CPU it's using. Mine is currently showing 0%.

I have an Airport Extreme as my router and am using time capsule to extend the network in my new house. My ISP is only providing me 4-5 ip addresses and wants me to set up my router to issue out new ip addresses for all my devices. How do I fix this?Help.
They said I need to change my settings to NAT settings. I haven't been able to figure out or find anything. I have also spoken to Apple Support on the phone for hours without being able to figure out how to do this ( i don't think he knew much either lol.) Please help me because I've got about 15-20 devices in my house that require to be connected to the internet and this is just making things ridiculously slow and painful for me.
    Thanks!

It is on DHCP & NAT under router mode yet my isp is still the one issuing ip addresses to my devices instead of the router issuing them

  • Wireless-N Gigabit Router ports wont open?? NEED HELP

I upgraded my linksys WRT54GX to a linksys Wireless-N Gigabit Router with Storage Link and now when I open ports or specify my ip under a DMZ, my ports are still being blocked. Im trying to open a few ports for my applications but when i test them.. it fails, ive turned off my MCaffee firewall opened the ports and even put my static ip and enabled DMZ and it still shows my ports as not going through. I would appreciate any help.

I have updated to the most recent firmware. I had a few technicians setting up a crestron Audiorequest server in my houes and for the equiptment to work properly they needed to open up about 5-6 ports. I could see they were having problems while forwarding the ports on the N router. They told me even though the ports were open, they were still being blocked by the routers firewall. I had to set up my old WRT54GX modem and now the ports are benig accepted. I now have a 250 dollar router sitting on my floor because it is not working properly. Any suggestions?

  • I am looking for a fast  gigabit router

I am looking for a fast gigabit router that has mac supported software. I see lots of vendors selling mac routers, but not fully supporting them. Not that I ever use any of the boxed software, but I would like a company that is mac savvy.
    thanks,

If you are patient, it appears that the new Airport Extreme base station is a gigabit ethernet router according to the new iMac's press release:
    http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2007/08/07imac.html
"Build-to-order options and accessories include: a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme processor, up to 4GB DDR2 SDRAM and up to a 1TB Serial ATA hard drive on the 24-inch iMac; up to 4GB DDR2 SDRAM and up to 750GB Serial ATA hard drive on the 2.4 GHz 20-inch iMac; and up to 4GB of DDR2 SDRAM and up to 500GB Serial ATA hard drive on the 2.0 GHz 20-inch iMac. Additional options include: new Apple Wireless Keyboard and wireless Mighty Mouse; *AirPort Express® and AirPort Extreme Base Station (now with Gigabit Ethernet);* the AppleCare Protection Plan; and pre-installed copies of iWork™ ’08, Logic® Express 7, Final Cut® Express HD 3.5 and Aperture 1.5. "
Take a copy of that to the store, and ask them when their stock of Airport Extreme base stations will include that.

  • Linksys Easy Link Advisor for WRT310N Wireless Router after upgrading to Windows 7 (64bit)

I can't reinstall Linksys Easy Link Advisor for WRT310N Wireless Router after upgrading to Windows 7 (64bit).  When I went to Linksys site for solution for new drivers, it asked me for Hardware Version Number.  This model doesn't show one.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Sabertooth is right. If you are able to go online from your Router then you don't need to install LELA software on your Computer.

  • Constant issues with touchscreen

I have had constant issues with my touchscreen starting the second month I got my phone. I am on my 3rd phone and still having problems.  The touchscreen keyboard enters different letters than what I am pressing, the search button in the market doesnt do anything, applications wont launch, the back button sometimes scrolls, etc.  I performed multiple "reset to factory" actions with no fix.  After tons of calls to Verizon, I can't get them to do anything about it. All they will do is keep sending me this same model phone which is obviously not the solution. Has anyone else had experiences like this and if so how did you get this resolved?  Im thinking of filing a complaint with the BBB. Don't know what else to do. Help.

If you are still having problems, please reply to the private message that I am sending you.  I will call you to provide troubleshooting assistance.

  • Network Issues with Macbook Pro Retina will Apple Router solve issues?

Hi, I just purchased a Macbook Pro Retina 15" and have been having major WIFI/Internet issues.  Slow connections, constant spinwheel of death, half loading pages if the website has a lot of images (Facebook, etc).  Sometimes I have to wait a fair bit of time and they may eventually load, or I'll have to close the browser and reload the page.
In the area I live in, Bell offers only Fibe 5.1 (802.11 g/b) at this time.  I wondered if I purchased a separate router with an 802.11n connection (and disabled the router on the 2Wire modem from Bell), would this solve my issues or is Fibe 5.1 just unable to handle the new "n" technology/speed.  I'd like to utilize this computer the way it was meant to be used, but the internet connection that I have leaves much to be desired.  Bell won't be upgrading in my area for at least 6-12 months from what they tell me and I refuse to switch to Robbers (I mean Rogers).

I hate to go into a long rant but you may be able to fix your problem by just changing the channel on your 2wire router  from ma Bell. They all come with the channel set to a default setting of channel 6 change it to 10. If you are in a high traffic area and they are all set on six you see where this is going.  I have a 2 Wire in a high traffic area and I changed mine and it worked like a charm.
    Hope this helps

  • E4200 - Okay router, setup issues

I chose this router over the Netgear N750 because of previous bad experience with their customer support and over the Asus RT-N56U b/c of a compatibility issue with a specific application.
The Cisco Connect Software is very poor software. No OSX Lion support so I could not use my Mac for setup and it could not even detect the router on a wired connection on a Windows 7 PC through a simple Dell unmanaged switch. Even the router setup software built into Windows had no problem with that. I had to rely on manual setup which was straightforward.
Range was mostly adequate for me with both 2.4 and 5 Ghz over 5,000 sq. ft. of indoor space with no direct line of sight, through many walls, multiple floors, and the outside patio also, although with a few connected devices I found the 5 Ghz band somewhat unreliable at times. Wired gigabit performance was good enough for my purposes.
Overall a decent router, not bad, not great.

It seems like you are using an outdated version of Cisco Connect Software… There is a new release of the Cisco Connect Software that supports Mac OS X (10.7 "Lion")… So you need to download the latest Cisco Connect from the Cisco Website (homesupport.cisco.com) or you can use this link: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/E4200 ... After downloading you need  to set the router to factory defaults, power cycle the whole network and then run the Cisco Connect that you downloaded…
For more information about setting up E4200 router with Cisco Connect. Please refer to the link below.

  • MI424WR Reb I Gigabit router droping wireless connection with laptop

I have the Actiontech MI424WR Rev I router with firmware 40.19.22 which it came with.  The connection on my HP Pavilion dv7 using Vista 64 bit professional.  The wireless connction to the router keeps dropping - I need to disconnect and then re-connect to it.  I have also had a problem with my wired PC where I needed to unplug the router and plug it back in so that I could get out to the internet.
The prior MI424WR Rev C worked perfectly for years and years.  But - I wanted the faster 801.11n speed to I purchased the Rev I Gigabit version.
I have reset my card through Windows yesterday - but - I am still having problems.  I use the Acronis True Image Home backup software.  Anytime I try to run a verify of my backup - bang - my signal is dropped - the backup verify stops - I disconnect and then reconnect - it starts up for a while and drops again.
After a day or 2 without trying to perform a verify - the signal is still dropped.
I have no idea what to do next.
I use the WPA2 AES as my security to the router.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My personal suspicion is that you really have several  issues, The Acronis software driver behaves like a hardware device (and in fact shows up as one when it is running). That leads me to suspect there may be a conflict between the Acronis device driver and the wireless card driver. You have not mentioned what version of True Image you are using. Is it the latest, and have you contacted Acronis?
The dropping of the Wi-Fi connection is generally the result of one of two things happening. Signal interference (is the card in laptop a true 802.11n dual band card?). If it isn't, the 2.4 Ghz band is rife with sources of interference. That is less of a problem with dual band units because the 5Ghz band has more 'real estate', and few users, but still possible.
The other issue is that it may be a power management issue. Do you lose the connection when running of the AC adapter, or only on battery, or both. If it works on AC power but drops on battery, it is probably a power management issue, and you may have to tweak the power management settings. I have  seen many battery powered devices time out for inactivity with surprising speed on wireless networks. It is a way of maximizing battery life (and inconveniencing the hell out of the user).
As to the wired pc, that's fort of a chicken-egg problem. It is hard to tell which end the problem is on. When you cannot connect to the internet, is the connection light on the ethernet port on? Will it connect if you just unplg the ethernet cable and re connect it without unplugging the router? In other words it is hard to tell whether it is a software issue, or a hardware issue. Generally the negotiation of the initial ethernet connection (capability and speed) is generally firmware on the ethernet card and port on the router.
I seriously doubt it has anything to do with the encryption settings.

  • Any resolution to 10.4.10, wireless router/encryption issues?

Like many others, I upgraded to 10.4.10 and soon began experiencing connecting to the Internet problems on my ATT/2WIRE gateway/router using WEP encryption as well as kernel panics.
Having had my MBP for only two months, I did not have many files so I did a Erase/Install using the disks (v. 10.4.8) that came with the laptop. Immediately after this procedure, I updated to 10.4.9, did permission repairs. The gateway/router issue and the kernel panics with 10.4.10 were gone. Without having installed anything else, I did the combo update to 10.4.10 again (did permission repair before and after) and after the double reboot, I was able to reach the Internet. I then went on to battery and sure enough the Internet connection was lost after about 10 minutes. Then came the kernel panic. I resorted to doing another Erase/Install and updating only to 10.4.9 and since then, no problems at all, even on battery.
I've read through the discussions on this but did not see if there was a resolution. Would 10.4.10 v1.1 resolve this issue? Or is this something that 2WIRE would need to update their firmware?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Most likely 2Wire needs to upgrade their firmware. There is still a chance one of these other solutions on my FAQ* might work too:

  • Verizon Quantum Gateway Router settings issue related to printing and wifi cameras?

    Hi,
I have a Verizon Quantum Gateway router and I just did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro x64 and am downloading and installing my printer drivers.  I connect the printer to the wifi network, 100% sure it is connected and settings are set to wireless lan.  I've had this printer for a while.  Doing the setup - it cannot find the printer.
Related: I bought a 2 pack of Motorola Focus66 wifi cameras to watch my dogs when I'm gone.  I can connect to the cameras when I'm on my ipad's Verizon Wireless LTE connection, but when I'm at home connected to my same Verizon Fios wifi I cannot view cameras.  Yes - the camera and apps support local and remote connections.
I have turned the firewalls all the way off and this does not fix the problems, so I'm believing it is in the router settings.  Any suggestions?

I had a wifi network running at my house with a PC, Laptop, 5 iphones an iPad, and an XBox all running with no issues..  I got the "Upgrade" of the Gateway router and I can connect those devices to the network but WiFi printing is screwed up and Air Printing the apple devices is totally dead..  cannot see the printer.  The customer support are completely a waste..  they suggested I pay for "Premium Support"  At this point I've invested a solid 10-15 hours trying to get this setup and talking to Verizon and its just a mess.
