WRT310n - Routing/NAT stopped working

Hello Cisco Forums,
I'll try to make this as detailed as I can, tell me if I've missed anything.
I've been on vacation for 2 weeks (all computers were OFF, but the WRT310N stayed ON) and when I came back none of my computers could access the internet. I have Linux, Vista and Windows 7 computers on this network, so this is not OS-related.
Every computer gets an IP from the router's DHCP server, they each can ping the router but they can't ping outside addresses. I've tried the "Diagnostic" utility in the router administrator interface and I can ping google from the router, but not from any other computer.
I've tried pigning my ISP gateway and Google using their IPs (bypassing the DNS) but to no avail.
Setting a static IP and ISP DNSes on a computer doesn't work either.
I've rebooted the router, rebooted the cable-modem, renewed the IPs, rebooted the computers and restarted the network intefaces. Nothing works. Wireless works fine, but no external access.
So, the router sees the internet but the NATted computers do not!
This was working fine 2 weeks ago.
What else could I try? I'm at a loss here...
Thanks for your help!
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Try to verify the following:
if the router can ping hosts on the internet like this ip address 4.2.2.2
if the gateway's IP address on your computers is set to the router IP address.
if the NAT on the router is enabled
if you've configured a policy to restrict internet access.
if you do not want to use your ISP's dns server, then fill the dns fields in the DHCP section (in the setup screen)  with values: 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2.
hope this help!

  • RV042 1 to 1 NAT Stopped Working

Thread title pretty much says it all.  I've had 1 to 1 NAT setup for years now with no issues and the other day it simply stopped working.  Rebooted everything, had ISP clear arp on their cable modem yet nothing going.  As soon as I remove the 1 to 1 NAT on the router the PC has internet access.  Add the 1 to 1 back and no out going internet.  The configuration is pretty basic and has not changed.
Thinking it could be a hardware issue I swapped it out with another RV042 I have with the exact config, same thing 1 to 1 NATs have no internet access.  Upgraded one of the RV042 firmware to Firmware Version: 1.3.13.02-tm, had cable modem replaced, spent numerous calls with ISP.  nada
I have found one interesting thing however, any internal machine which is set to dhp works fine, and static ip that does not have a 1 to 1 nat works fine and the last ip in the 1 to 1 nat range works fine.  If I extend the range it is always only the last ip that works.  Even if I add 1 to 1 nats one line at a time, it is always the last entry that works...
Short of thinking my ISP is out to get me...  Any help here would be appreciated!

    Robert,
Thank you for the response.  Yes, an external tracert shows the IPs heading in the right direction and stopping at the router or the ISP hop just before my router.  The IPs that have had 1 to 1 NATs set on my router do make it to the router the others to the hope before me, which makes sense as the subnet is shared with others (isp is a cable company).  It seems that the router is only supporting 1 IP address on the 1 to 1 NAT.  ASame thing for the other RV042 that I have.  I've tried setting up the NATs as a range and as individual entries.  Not sure what I can do about capturing on the WAN interface but I can ping the public IP from the internal network and the correct machine answers, I can also VNC from the internal network using the public IPs.  I suppose both routers could have the same issue that developed at an identical time but that seems rather an extreme.  The isp assures me they are routing my IP addresses to me and doing nothing different so I guess I am left looking at the routers as defective and now capable of only NATing 1 and 1 only IP.  I sure wish I could see what the heck I am missing.

  • E4200 - Router would stop working in about 30 mins time

Out of the box this thing was a breeze to setup. That is where the praises end. After the first few devices attached them selves the router would stop allowing internet access. I could still log onto the router and everything appeared fine but there was no internet access. The only solution was to hit the reboot button in the router software or power cycle the router. Then it would work for about 30 minutes. I googled the issue I was having and found it's a common problem. Not sure why this router has such great reviews on here.
What's great about it: Easy to setup
What's not so great: works for only 30 minutes at a time.
    This product has...
    Unreliable connection
    slow connection
    I use it in...:Large home

You should take a few steps to increase your connection's stability.
Step 1: Reset the wireless router by using the power switch on it or by unplugging it and plugging it back in. You should leave it off for about 20 seconds before turning it back on. This is a good step to take anytime you're troubleshooting your router; it gives the router a chance to refresh the network and reestablish connections with any devices paired to it.
Step 2: Place the wireless router in an ideal location. The higher it is, the better, but don't put it near the ceiling if metal beams or pipes are up there. Metal objects can strongly interfere with the network. Keep it away from large objects, since anything large and solid can obscure its signal.
Step 3: Get as close as possible to the router with whatever device you're trying to connect. The closer you are, the stronger and more stable the connection is.
Step 4: Keep the router and your connecting device away from other electronics. You should especially keep away from phones, fax machines and microwaves, since many of these appliances operate in the same frequency range as wireless routers. Other wireless routers should not be near the Linksys router or your device.
Step 5: Adjust the antenna if it has one. You may need to try putting it in several different positions before you find out what is most effective. If you're connecting to a router on a different floor than you, the antenna should probably be at a 45-degree angle or even completely horizontal.
Step 6: Change the router's channel, especially if other wireless routers are nearby. This is an option that only an advanced user should attempt. You'll need to access the router setting Web page, which is most likely 192.168.1.1; Then go to the Wireless tab and change the wireless channel to 1, 6,9,11...

  • Wireless router has stopped working

A few hours ago, my Linksys Wireless G Broadband Router stopped working, for no apparent reason. The internet connection is still working, however, when I hook up my computer to the wireless router, I can no longer receive internet, as well as when trying to acquire a wireless signal on my laptop (my laptop shows that I'm getting a signal, however, In actuality I am not).
    Please help,
    Alex

Please try the following if you have not done it already.
Powercycle the router by removing your power cable from the back then remove the power cable from your modem. Wait about 1minute and plug your modem back up then plug your router back up and wait about 3-5 minutes for the items to sync with each other. Now try to connect.
    Good Luck,
    Ttech

  • Wireless router suddenly stops working, have to unplug to fix

I actually had a similar problem with an older Linksys router in the past, but it was wired.  Basically, a port would stop working and I'd have to unplug the router and plug it back in to get the port to work again.  Well, now with my WRT160N, wireless will just suddenly cut off.  Wired computers still work fine, and don't even notice a difference, but every wireless computer suddenly disconnects and refuses to reconnect (this includes Vista, XP, and non-Windows devices like TiVo, PS3, etc.).  All I have to do is unplug the router and plug it back in and everything happily reconnects and works great.  No settings are being changed during any of this.
Another problem which may be related.  I work from home and VPN (using the built-in Windows VPN client) to work.  It will work great, but all of a sudden I get disconnected from VPN only, every other aspect of the network and Internet works fine, but VPN just completely dies on me.  Unplug the router, plug it back in, and VPN has no more issues.  No settings, or anything else, are changed at home or at work during this problem.
So what I'm wondering is if Linksys routers have some sort of internal counter and every now and then it rolls over to a negative, gets confused and just stops working, or are they just really sensitive to outside interference and somebody's cordless phone in the neighborhood is causing this problem.

Try reflashing the firmware. You can get latest firmware from www.linksys.com/download , also change radio band to wide and standard channel to 11

  • Router Suddenly Stopped Working!

I have the Linksys WRT54G And it was working fine for years! Then today my computer shut down and when I turned it back on there was a connection but my computer was not responding to any commands. The icon shows full connectivity excellent connection. When I try to go to a web page it shows Connection Error and cannot get to any web pages.
I am able to get on other wireless connections from neighbors but not mine. I have gone thru different directions on here and I am not technical and don't understand what is being said. I try to go to 192.168.1.1 and it asks for a password which I don't have. I have tried everything such as password and admin and get nothing.
I am able to get my ip address and default gateway address and don't know the next step.
I can't call for help because I don't have tech plan with Linksys.
Can someone help and explain step by step what to do like I was a 2 year old lol. All these tech terms I don't get!!!
    Thank you!!!!

Hi ss2beagles and welcome to the forums!
Try to hard reset the router and configure everything from scratch. Please refer to the links below for the configuration whether you are a DSL or Cable subscriber. Please do note that, all settings will be gone and you need to connect your computer with a wire to the router to perform the steps.

  • NAT stopped working and won't start

    Hello,
This morning I updated my Server 10.6.8 Snow Leopard Mac mini with Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.1, Safari 5.1, and iTunes 10.4. After restarting the computer, the NAT service didn't start. I can go into the Server Admin tool and click start, but the service doesn't start. There are no options for logging the NAT service, or turning on debugging.
Does anyone have any ideas for resolving this? This setup has been working for many months without a hiccup.
    Thanks for any advice.
    CraigBB

Reading in other discussions, someone suggested that NAT only worked in 64bit mode and NOT in 32bit mode. This appears to be what caused my problems. After running the updates and rebooting, my server had come up in 32bit mode. Once I restarted into 64bit mode, NAT started at boot just as it was configured to.

  • EA6500 router password stop working when on Internet

My issue is pretty simple but really hard to understand on a logic standpoint.
I have a new EA6500 (v1), I hooked it up to the network and set it up using the default router password which is "admin". I set up the PPPOE connection for my internet and then, as soon as it is connected to the internet, I'm not able to connect to 192.168.1.1 anymore because it says my router password is invalid. If I just unplug the WAN cable and refresh it, the router password now works.
I tried changing it and it keeps working only if the router is not connected to internet. When it is connected to internet, I click the "local access mode" but get the same "invalid router password" error. If I connect using my Smart Wi-Fi account, I get a "error_gets_network" error that disappears after ~1sec and then it goes back to connection page, or sometimes it will just ask for the router password which won't work anyway.
I have the latest firmware but I still manually reinstalled it without any success. I tried a few hard resets too but the problem is still here and it is really annoying since I can't go to the router settings without unplugging the WAN cable from the router. And I can't link my smart Wifi account either obviously since the router password isn't recognized anymore if I'm on internet.
    Any ideas??
I tried with latest version of Google Chrome (cleared cache and everything, and since it's working when the router is not plugged to internet, I don't think it's a browser problem). The interface doesn't work at all with latest IE version (even in compatibility mode, the interface keeps telling me to download the latest version of IE, that's really ironic).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
    Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
    Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
    Enable phishing and malware protection

  • WRT310N Issues - Router suddenly stopped working

    Hi,
I've been using my WRT310N for a few months now, and have had quite a few issues.  I have 1 desktop connected via ethernet, and 2 laptops connected via wireless (1 N and 1 G).  Aside from some random annoying cuts here and there, it's been running relative smoothly.
I just upgraded my internet service and got a new modem (Motorola SB5102) and have everything hooked up the same way as before - except this time, internet doesn't work.  The lights are all normal (blue for power, wireless, and internet LEDs), and green for Ethernet 1.  However, internet DOESN'T work - wired OR wireless.  I've tried using diagnose/repair on my desktop with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and on my laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit... but it says that it cannot be fixed within windows, and is a hardware issue.
I've tried resetting the router, both by pressing the button and by resetting it in the 192.168.1.1 page.  I've also tried replugging everything, and trying different cables.  I've tried powercycling the modem and the router.  But still, no internet, despite signal being broadcasted and the LEDs showing everything's A-OK.
I seriously don't know what else to do.  Is there something wrong with my router, or can I fix it somehow?
    Thanks for any help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What's the physical address you're getting from the modem? Now hardwire modem-router-desktop. Go to 192.168.1.1 >> MAC address clone >> enable it >> click Clone My PC's MAC (make sure that the MAC add is the same as the physical add from the modem. Use the same computer that's connected to the modem) >> click Save Settings >> go to Status, check for the IP add, gateway, DNS. If you're getting valid ones, you should be online. If not powercycle router and modem for 30 secs.

  • Model BEFW11S4 wireless router just stopped working with Mac; still works with Windows

I have the above model Linksys wireless router, hard connected to a Windows XP Pro desktop unit. I also have a Windows XP Home laptop. My wife has a Mac PowerBook laptop. On Thursday last week her laptop started having trouble connecting to Internet. Problem is intermittent--sometimes can get on and sometimes now. When on it might connect to a web site normally or sometimes takes a long (as in loooooong) time connecting. My XP Home laptop continues to connect quickly and will move from one URL to another easily; no problems. She took the PowerBook to Panera and got on the Internet with no trouble. She was on for at least a half hour and suffered no outage or slow-downs. Came back home; got the same problems as before. Only thing that has changed is a big snow on Thursday, same day as the trouble started. The relationship is probably non-existent, but it's the only thing different from Wednesday (when working well) to Thursday (when started having trouble). Any thoughts? I naturally welcome any responses. Thanks, Michael Plog

Hello people. I'm having the same weird trouble: I'm having this BEFW11S4 to which I connect via another wireless AP and a switch a Windows XP PC and a MacBook Pro computer (both with Ethernet cable connected to the switch, to which the AP is connected). Both the above computers work seamlessly, but sometimes the other iMac I have in WLAN doesn't surf anymore. It can ping both MacBook Pro and Windows XP PC, but doesn't anymore ping the BEFW11S4. Wireless connection is crypted with WEP-64 bit key. When this is happening, also from the Windows XP PC I cannot get on the web interface of the BEFW11S4. It seems to be "locked" somehow. After unplugging the power and re-plugging it in, everything works again also on the iMac. Anybody managed to solve this issue? What version of Firware do you guys have? I have 1.50.13... regards.

  • Changed IP, NAT Stopped Working

    Hi,
We have a Terminal Server setup on our local LAN at an address of
10.2.1.99. The address thru NAT is something like 99.99.99.91. Everything
was working fine. We had two subnets 10.2.0.0/24, and 10.2.1.0/24. We then
combined the 2 subnets into 10.2.0.0/23. We then changed the local IP
address of the Terminal Server to 10.2.0.99. Changed the entry in NAT to
reflect the change, but we can no longer get to the Terminal Server from the
outside. Changing the address of the Terminal Server back to 10.2.1.99
doesn't work. We can connect to it over the LAN, and the BorderManager
Server is able to ping the new address. Any Ideas what might be wrong?
We are running NetWare 6.0 SP3, and BM 3.7 SP2.

I did find this TID2936862, which might explain the problem. But since the
TID is from 5 years ago, I would hope there is a way around this issue.

  • My router suddenly stopped working.

    Here's my situation:
I have verizon FiOS and i decided to have both my Actiontec router (the one they provided) and my Linksys router working. I changed the IP address of the linksys router so that there wouldnt be any interference between the two routers. This worked for a long time... until now.
I was on my laptop and suddenly lost connection to my main SSID (the one broadcasted from the linksys). So I decided to log into the router, I typed my linksys router's IP address into my browser and I did not get any results. my actiontec routers IP is 192.168.1.1 while my linksys router is 192.168.5.1 - and i do not even know where to begin to fix this. I tried downloading the Easylinksys thing to help, but to no avail.
can someone help me and provide a step by step guide as to how to go about solving my problem? Your time to help me will be greatly appreciated.
and my router is the wrt54gs v.4

Could you please try this ?
Connect your Computer directly to your Modem
Unplug the Power to the Cable Modem and re-connect it after
30 Seconds. Meanwhile, You could try restarting the Computer
Now, Once the Computer has restarted completely, and once
all the lights are lit up, check the Online Connectivity.
If you are able to go Online with the Modem,
we could fix the Issues with the Router.

  • Router (WRT310N) Just stops working...

Well I play Halo and whenever I host a server, there's usually no issue with the lag or anything, but usually after I restart a game, maybe 10 minutes into the new game the router just stops working completely... It's still on but is not connecting to the internet or anything, it doesn't work until I shut it off and put it back on..
Can someone help me with my problem?

I guess you should try to upgrade/flash your router's firmware...
    Download Firmware 3.23 MB...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
See if this fixes your problem...

My WRT54GS Linksys wireless router suddenly stopped working. It is not an Internet problem because if I disconnect my router the Internet will start working again. I am connected thru a DSL connection. My router's power light will not stop flashing but all the other necessary lights are on. Any help pls...
Message Edited by nova_flush on 04-18-200702:30 PM

If the Power light is flashing thn thr is 100% problem with router. Power light should be solid green and other lights can be flickering.
Try to change power cord or reset the router for 30 sec and unplug pwer cord and plug back after 10 sec.
Remember powerlight should become solid green.
If not contact tech support bcz it may have gone bad and u will need replacement,
so contact as soon as possible before u run out of warranty period of the router.
