WRT350N FTP access to USB storage

I have my WRT350N setup.  all computers within my LAN can access my usb storage device.   I can not access my usb storage device using a computer outside my LAN.
if you log on to 99.225.89.229:8080 it will ask you for user id and pass word to log into my router.
if you try to log on to 99.225.89.229:21 it wont even connect asking you for a user id and password.
my guess is the router is not allowing port 21 to be accessed, but I'm not sure.  Any one know how to fix this problem?

Upgrade the router with a latest firmware first..
Once its upgraded reset the router for 30 sec and then reconfigure the router again..
Open the FTP port 21 on the port range triggering option.
Basically port range triggering is for the incomming ports and when you try to access the USB from outside LAN then this port 21 will help you with it..

  • WRT350N FTP Access

    Hi all,
I have a WRT350N US Version and I have set up my FTP server fine and I can access all my stuff from anywhere which is great but I’m having a problem with user names and access.
What I want to do is set up users so they are logged into a certain directory with access to only that directory and not free to roam the whole drive.
    Is this possible?
Also, as a side note, I tried to download the latest firmware .TGZ and I am unable to open it using winzip.  Is there a Linksys Utility for this?

The .tgz files are the GPL source code for the firmware. You don't want to download that. You would have get all the development tools to compile it.
Official files are available from the support web site only. If you have a WRT350Nv1 the latest firmware is Ver.1.04.4.
If you have a WRT350v2 there is no firmware available for download at this time.

  • Access to usb storage SSD Samsung T1

HelloI am new in this community and have a first problem. I connected an SSD-HDD via USB-Port with the new WD My Cloud hardware.I need an access directly from Mac and IOS devices, but do not see it anywhere. Have you a solution? br Raymond

Did you read Chapter 13 of the User Manual? <quote>Connecting A USB Drive
Connect a USB hard drive to the USB port on the rear of your WD My Cloud device for
additional storage. The USB drive appears as a share on the WD My Cloud dashboard.
    (See“Managing Shares” on page 55.)
The WD My Cloud device supports the following formats for externally attached USB drives:
     FAT32
 NTFS (read and write capability)
     HFS+J
     Linux Ext2, Ext3/Ext4
 XFS</quote> No mention of ExFAT being supported. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExFAT Suggests Linux support of ExFAT is limited.  Since MyCloud is Linux, I suspect that it probably cannot support ExFAT. If you want a definitive answer, I'd suggest asking WD Support.

  • No USB storage devices are recognized anymore - Code 28

    Hi,
since a few weeks except my usb mouse, keyboard, webcam and scanner no
    storage devices are working anymore.
So now flash drives, usb harddisks etc. are working - they just show up in device manager with error code 28.
I deleted one of my devices in the device manager, run the latest intel chipset driver setup but no change.
If I open VMware Workstation and start a virtual Windows 7 machine then I can access my usb storage devices inside the VM.
I also tried exchaning the usb.inf file from the virtual Windows7 to my physical machine, again no change.
And Windows Updates are also not helping - no new Updates are available.
    What else could I try?
    Thanks!
    (Win7 Prof, SP1 64Bit)

    Hi,
You can install the following hotfix to update some files to see how it’s going.
"0x0000009F" Stop error when you resume a computer from hibernation in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2720599
Meanwhile, I suggest you can try the steps below:
Make sure you update to latest BIOS.
        Reinstall USB controllers
First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:
     a. Click "Start" button, type “devmgmt.msc” (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press "Enter". Click “Continue” if necessary.
     b.  In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".
     c.   Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.
If the above steps cannot resolve the problem, try the steps below:
Turned the laptop off, unplugged it.
Pulled out the battery for a few minutes.
        Then power on the laptop.
Make sure the USB device is working, try changing to another USB port.

  • WRT350N - USB Storage; How to??

    Hello all,
This is the first time I have entered this forum! It looks excellent.
A week ago I bought myself a wireless-N router, the WRT350N. I bought this one because of the excellent reviews and most of all because of the USB-storage link.
This router works very fine. I have already connected my HP C5180 All In One.
However, now I want to connect my external hard drive. This is untill now not successfull. I hope someone can help me.
    I'm running:
    - notebook from HP, the DV9870ED with Windows Vista.
    - external drive, a Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 250 GB with USB 2.0. This external HD is not empty. The File System is NTFS.
When I look 'in' the router I can see my External HD. As far as I know I have shared it. I have not claimed it, because in my opinion it looks like this will erase the HD and it is stored with important data. What is the next step or what are the next steps?
Please, can someone hand out a tutorial or a step-by-step manual?
    Thanking you in advance.
    Kind Regards.

    Hi,
NTFS works. No need to reformat, existing data is safe (unless you use Linksys to erase it).
On the first tab "Disk", have you done "Create Share"?
On the next tab "Shares", it should show the HD under "Share Name" as "All_Partitions".
Press "Create New Share", give it a "Share Name" and save.
You might have to set permissions under "Share Access".
Under the tab "Administration", set the "Machine Name" and "Workgroup Name" I used the same WG as my network.
Under "User Management", "User Name / Properties", set a password.
You can also setup "FTP Server", both local and internet access.
It's a couple of month since I set mine up.
    Good luck,
    dRdoS7.

  • EA6400 Problem FTP USB Storage

When I do not restrict the acces to the files I can reach them by FTP
When I do restrict the acces I can not reach them anymore
After usin my login I got this screen
Like you see: the Transcend is not visible.
Yes I have the rights to see and write on the USB Storage.
    Anybody a suggestion?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Use Username: admin and Password: the router password (admin by default). Don't use your Linksys Smart WiFi account password.
Are you able to access the drive locally using the Remi user? Did you made sure that you checked the Transcend share when you created the Remi user?
Try Chadster's suggestion by creating a new user and clear the browser. Or you can try using another computer.

  • Cannot Access USB Storage on WRT610N From My Computer

    Hi ,
I am uable to access my files on the USB Storage Device connected to WRT610. Its configured properly. I can see the drive on my network. When I double click it asks for password which I enter and it takes me to the shared folder. But when I click it it says Not Accessible....You donot have the persmission. FTP works fine.
I have noticed that on the disk page in the Shared Folder Area when you click on the Summary, the box with Groups With Access is Empty. Whereas on the FTP area in the same summary it clearly mentions the admin group.
I have tried every thing including factory reset, hard reset, using new group, new user name etc...but no joy.
The technician from Linsys even spent an hour on my computer and ultimately he gave up and gave me number to contact technical support.
Any Ideas Guys. Its driving me mad!!!
    Regards
    Nilesh

Let me know the current firmware version in the Router? If the firmware in the Router is an older version then upgrade it with the latest one which can be downloaded from the Linksys/Cisco website. After successful firmware upgrade you need to reset the Router. It is recommended to reset the router once. Steps to reset the router:
Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds, turn off the router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process.
After reset, reconfigure the router and then check the connectivity status of the storage..
NOTE: Before upgrading the firmware must disconnect the USB DRIVE. As the drive connect may corrupt data on the drive, so as a precaution make sure the user safely disconnects the drive by using the button in the Storage page that says Safely Remove Disk

I have a router that has a readyshare USB storage access port that has mp4's of movies. So how can I view them from my iPad 2 ?

    I just bought a NETGEAR WNDR3400v2".
I own a mac, running 10.7 and an ipad 1.
I can access my USB stick, on the netgear wireless router, from my mac or ipad.
From a mac or ipad .... http://readyshare.routerlogin.net/shares/USB_Storage/    or  just http://readyshare.routerlogin.net/shares
Also,   on a mac only, try, go > connect to server> smb://readyshare
    Works for me!

  • E3000 USB Storage / Media Server - Web access?

I just set up an E3000 router and haven't any problems so far.  I have a question about the USB storage and/or Media Server though.
I hooked up a USB drive to the router, and it works just fine via Windows Explorer.  Is there a way to access it through a web browser though?  I'd like to access the drive from my Wii if that's possible, so is there a way, possibly with the media server? Mainly, I want to play videos from the drive on my TV, but I don't have a fancy internet-enabled TV
    Thanks in advance.

I think you can try to upgrade/re-flash the firmware on your router.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Download the latest firmware from Linksys website and save it on your computer. Open the setup page of the router and upgrade the firmware on your router.
After upgrading the firmware on your router, reset the router and reconfigure it. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it.

  • Cannot access USB storage

I had a E3200 for more than a year and everything is fine. I have a 128G USB key attached to the usb port and had no problem sharing the content with any user connected to the router. In the last 2 days I started having problem accessing the USB key. When my WIN8.1 came up, I saw notification saying "not able to cnnect to all network drives" and I cannot get to the USB key anymore. The other router function is fine (every user can access internet with no problem). I tried to check using the admin interface. But 192.168.1.1 did not return the admin login (using IE or Chrome).
I powered off and power on the router, I can than get to admin and saw no problem with the USB Stoarage and I also was able to get the USB content on my file explorer.  This stayed OK when I was using my laptop (may be for 1 or 2 hrs). But the next time I power on my laptop, I got the problem again (cannot get to the USB drive and 192.168.1,1 did not return login prompt).  Power off and power on the E3200 will do the trick again. Any suggestion on how I can find out what is wrong ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

To help us isolate the situation, try accessing your files using other laptops. If all of the devices are affected, it would be best if you'll check if the firmware is up to date. If it is, you may try to re-flash the firmware.
To download the update instructions and the latest firmware, go to this link, http://support.linksys.com/en-apac/support/routers/E3200.
It is recommended to do a factory reset after successfully updating the firmware. Reconfigure the router and observe its performance.

  • USB storage with WRT610N....help!

After spending 4 hours (no exageration) with Linksys Level 2 tech support I am at my wits end....
I just purchased a WRT610N and want to use the USB storage feature to backup my primary desktop.  Here's the specifics:
Desktop is an older Dell XPS runnings XP SP3.  Desktop has three logons....for myself and my kids.
I'd also like each desktop logon to be able to access the router USB storage feature so that we have a common place for pictures, etc.
I have an office laptop and I would like this to access the storage device
Eventually I will be adding more computers to the network for my kids.
I'm also interested in using the FTP access to get to the files on the storage device when I am away from home.
Through 3 separate tech support calls, each tech tried a different approach to get this to work.  Nothing worked.  I want to start from scratch....  What is the best way to accomplish what I want to do?  After suffering through the pain, is the WRT610N a good solution or should I return it to Amazon and do this some other way?
A final note, tech support did upgrade the WRT610N's firmware to 1.00.00.18.
Thanks in advance for your help!

The harsh reality is that the results for people trying to use the Storage Link function have been mixed, at best.  Especially in trying to utilize it for a "backuP' function.  The kernel used to manage the Storage Link is apparently unix/linux based, and has some difficulty playing nice with Windows based backup utilities.  Additionally, there have been reports that the connectivity to the attached devices is, at times, poor.  Finally, there are issues with file corruption (date/time stamps, specifically).  There have been no firmware updates to deal with these issues.  If your primary need is for an attached NAS solution, I would strongly recommend looking at other devices for that solution.

  • EA6350 usb storage problems

I have a WD Mybook 3tb drive setup as my usb storage, and it is very unreliable. At times it works fine, but is unusble a large majority of the time. As in, it can't access a single file on the drive. It doesn't seem to be related to access either, as it sometimes happens under heavy usage, other times accessing a file at a time. The drive had no problems when plugged into a computer.
All of my settings are default, no secure access, no media server or ftp server, no media prioritization.

I recommend trying this, it maybe trying to catalog that size of information and may take a while. Do a reset sometime at night before you go to bed, Set up the router again and enable the drive on the router. Let the router and the drive be alone over night and check back in the morning. Let the router do it's cataloging of the drive. It should be done by morning. Look at the drive light in the morning. If it's still blinking, the router maybe still accessing the drive and it's contents.
The more you put on the drive the longer it may take the router to catalog the drive and it's contents. I personally don't use USB drives on the router unless they are small drives. I prefer using wired LAN NAS for any storage solutions.

  • Problem about EA6700 USB Storage

I am using a USB2.0 disk on the EA6700(plug in the usb2.0 slot of the router).
I can copy file to the usb disk from computer and play movie file on computer directly from the usb disk.
But when I want to delete the file in the usb disk. The windows7 system pop up an alert said I need some kind of authority to delete the file.(the file that I just copy into usb disk from computer few minutes ago)
The alert window shows:You need the Linksys\admin authority to delete this file.
But sometimes the alert is:You need the Unix User\admin authority to delete this file.
So I go to check the router config.
USB Storage > Folder Access > Secure Folder Access(already turned ON) and there are 2 authorized users:admin(read & write) and guest(read only)
USB Storage > FTP Server(already turned ON) and "FTP Port 21" and "Encoding UTF-8"
USB Storage > Media Server(already turned ON)
Now I have to plug in the usb disk on computer when I want to delete file.
How can I directly delete it when it`s on the router? How can I have the authority?
    Thanks very much!

You may want to contact Microsoft on how to create a login account in your computer. Make sure that the router's Folder and File Sharing was configured properly. Check this link to know more about the USB storage options of the router:

  • EA4500 Mac OS X Lion and USB storage

Hello everybody, I have EA4500 and usb had drive attached to router.
Ok, I can acces USB storage through FTP on my Mac OS X, I can acces it through smb in Windows 7 (running on the same macbook in vmware) but i can't acces it through smb directly from mac os (finder).
I tried finder-->Go-->connect to server and entered smb://192.168.111.1/Data or smb://admin:[email protected]/Data anyway i had error "The share does not exist on the server. Please check the share name, and then try again."
Also, I installed XBMC for MAC and XBMC can acces to storage by smb.
    Where I am wrong?
PS. Drive formatted as HFS+ MBP early 2011 (OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion GM doesnt matter dont working in both). Connected to EA4500 by ethernet (wifi connection dont work too)

Hi please check on this link:http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/Unable-to-access-network-drive-with-OS-X-10-7-Lion/td-p/955..., this may help the problem that you are having right now.

  • E4200 USB Storage Issue - Connection drops / router hangs

I'm having issues with maintaining a reliable connection to the USB drive connected to my new E4200.  Here are the situation:
    (1)  I can successfully share the drive and map it from any computer on the network as expected
    (2)  After mapping the drive, I try to copy files/folder to the mapped drive.  It starts off ok, but within a few seconds/minutes, I'll begin getting the message "the specified network name is no longer available".  The drive status will show "disconntected" or "reconnecting"
    (3)  When this happens, the router will often stop accepting new connections (i.e. the DHCP function stops working).  However, some of the computer that are connected continue to work / have internet access.
    (4)  Restarting the router (i.e. pulling the power and plugging it back in) gets things working again.  Things are good until I try to map the drive and begin copying files again.
    Here's some other parameter info:
    (a)  I'm running the latest (only) firmware available: 1.0.00 build 13
    (b)  Per Linksys support, I've reflashed the firmware.  Didn't make any difference
    (c)  I'm working in a wired environment (this is not a wirelss issue...although it happens via wireless the same way)
    (d)  I'm running Win XP SP3 (have also tried on Vista HE 64...same results)
    (e)  The USB disk is a Seagate FreeAgent 1.5 TB (which is on the list of compatible devices for this router)
    (f)  I do most of my work at the command line with NET USE commands.  The files are being copied via ROBOCOPY and or XCOPY.  Just basic scripting.  Note:  I get the same results if I use Windows Explorer to map/copy files.
    (g)  I've validated the Seagate drive is not the issue by plugging in the the computer and using it for several days.  Have had no issues copying files to it  It's formatted as NTFS.  Chkdsk and SeaTools show no issues with the drive.
    (h)  I am copying large volumes of data (i.e. entire folders of movies, backups of "USERS" folder, etc.).
    (i)  It's not any one paritcular file or folder this issue occurs on.  It will make a little progress, then flake out.  Upon restarting, it will make a little more, then flake out, etc.
    (j)  Just to be safe, I turned off the sleep mode/spin down option on the FreeAgent drive to ensue that wasn't the problem.
    (k)  I haven't made any elaborate router settings (haven't changed many defaults).  Haven't turned on FTP, Media Server functions, etc.  I've just done some basic things like (1) change the ssid (2) set up some DHCP reservations (3) changed the security to WPA2 (4)  changed admin password (5) set up port forwarding for two apps.  I've not created any policies, turned on guest accounts, enabled logging, etc.
    (l)  I am doing all of the above with an admin account (on the router, I created an admin user acccount for myself).  I've been careful to always map the drive with that userid/password.
Is anyone else having reliability issues with access to thier attached USB storage.  I was very hopeful that the storage attached to the router would be readily available.  I'm not expecting or needing great performance, but do need it to be "always on" for the purposes of sharing files and executing backups.  Eventually, I would like to use some of the other features of the router (streaming video the PS3 and external FTP access for example).  However, for now, I just want the attached storage to work.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

oops, well now i see your full question. i asked you some ?s in the other thread you posted in.. but they seemed to be answered here..
ok, solely speaking about this E42 router, i have had it for 2 weeks now and i had a buffalo 500gb drive on the usb port. i had all sorts of junk on the drive..just random files, etc, and the ones that were supported by the PS3 would stream fine form the drive. i even have a sony BD player (s770) and its able to see the files and drive and stream. the PS3 is wired and the BD player is wireless. i have a laptop (wireless) and it has the same results.
last night i purchased a seagate go flex 2TB and plan to ONLY put media type files on this drive and try and clean things up and stop being lazy.. so far i have transferred a FEW small video and audio files from a wired computer with zero issues.
now let me ask, when you are transferring these huge files, are you like copying a folder and pasting it onto the mapped seagate drive? or are you doing individual files, etc? i dont have a folder with a bunch of GBs of files but i will try and see if i can reproduce the problem you see.
however thus far with the few small media files i have transferred on this new go flex 2TB drive, they have all transferred over. im talking about a couple GBs worth -ish...
