WRT350N so problematic!

I have a WRT350N With a whole lot of problems.
I'm running 1.03.02
First the router won't ping, when I go into the diagnostics page under administration I enter an IP address and click ping, all it gives me is:
PING 192.168.1.50 (192.168.1.50): 33 data bytes  No responses at all ever even if I put unlimited as the number of times to ping. Trace route works though, to the same IP.  So I have to use Trace Route as a form of ping.
Then, nothing negotiates to GIG, I have  a Dell PowerEdge sc440, windows server 2003 with a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ehternet card.  I put the card to Auto and it should negotiate to GIG, the most I get is 100/Full, the laptops that are wired don't negotiate to gig either, but they are running vista so at first I chaulked it up to a vista compatability problem, I guess not.
So I get online with Dell, the NIC and Mother board are working properly.  I complained so much they changed the mother board out.  Still no good.  So I get online with the linksys "GURUs" after leaving me on hold every 5 to 10 minutes they guy asks me, to re-Flash the firmware.  So I say okay, then he warns me that 1.03.2 is  beta and that it's at my own risk, even though its on the regular download site!
This router has been a huge dissapointment, it works don't get me wrong its doing the job, but not very well, for what I'm getting I could have purchase a lower end linksys.  I might load a 3rd party firmware on it, linksys's software just blows!
Any body have any ideas?

I totally agree. I have replaced 2 of these already.
My first one slowed to a grinding halt one day. it was like I was on Dialup when I have 10 down, 1 up Cable. I chatted with online support which was useless. I had a friend also buy one and the thing after 3 days just refused to allow internet traffic. It would get an IP from her modem but would not allow outgoing traffic.
The slow router I had issues with was replaced by the same thing and it works ok as long as you are wired the wireless does not stay connected for more than 10 or 20 seconds and then reconnects over and over again.

The other three give me an even greater time of entertainment in that they won't let me forward a port range, something about overlapping ports? • For Users of WRT350N - My experience

For all you WRT350N Users out there, I thought I'd post my experience and tips gained over the past 7-8 months using the WRT350N since my WRT54G died.
I purchased the WRT350N obviously as a replacement for the WRT54G with extremely high expectations. Though I did not have any -N equipment as yet, I was planning on it. I did like the fact that it had the USB port. It was also a Linksys product so I expected the same good, reliable experience with it as I had in the past. I was upgrading some of my home office equipment and wanted to embrace wireless for all my peripherals (ie. get rid of the wires).
In the beginning, it was hell.
I suffered from all kinds of bizarre and cryptic events. The WRT350N was at 1.03.2. I had all manners of dropped internet connections, extremely poor wireless performance (WEP and B/G Mode). You've read the threads, I've experienced them all. I almost threw the unit out in total frustration. I upgraded to 1.03.7 about a month after purchase following the procedure outlined by other contributors on this forum...(You must follow the instructions to the letter).
Since then, the unit has worked as advertised in wired modes: internet connection has been solid and stable with no re-boots. The wireless piece has been a bugger running WEP and in B or G... still had 54MB/s when close to the WRT350N but this dropped considerably when the wireless device was moved to other parts of the house.
Well, I fixed the problem... and wireless piece is now running at 270MB/s (-N Mode) flawlessly throughout my house. See below.
So, what have I learned and is it of any use to anyone else?
First off, everyone's configurations, equipment, environment, needs and expectations are different, so take the following with a grain of salt. This is my experience.
    My Network and stuff:
    Cable Broadband - Cable modem
DellXPS-3.4Ghz (Desktop), 1 TeraByte drives configured for RAID 0, 1 GB Network card, lot's of USB devices hanging off it - everything running on MS XP - System is wired to the WRT350N.
Dell8100-1.5Ghz (Desktop), 500GB Drives, 1GB Network card and a bunch of peripherals - everything running on MS XP - System is wired to the WRT350N.
1 Terabyte USB External Drive used primarily for backups. Originally purchased to hang off the USB port of the WRT350N as a quasi-network drive... It can be configured and it does work. However, I had trouble with Norton Ghost 12 doing backups to the drive via the 350N USB port. I removed it from the 350N USB port and re-attached it to a spare DELL XPS USB port - no problems since. I also have a number of printers, three of which are directly connected to the Desktops.
I purchased a HP Photosmart C8180 All-in-one (good unit BTW) as a network (wired or wireless) color printer and for photo printing etc. It worked intermittently with the 350N when configured for wireless using WEP and in B/G mode. The printer, unfortunately does not support wireless in -N mode using WPA2 Personal-AES. So it is now wired with network connection at 1 GB.
Dell Latitude D600 Laptop... Frustrating!!! With the on-board Intel Wireless B/G, I never really got consistent, solid network or Internet connections via the 350N. It worked poorly with the 350N - wireless. It worked fine wired to the 350N.
Solution: I disabled the on-board Intel Wireless and purchased a Linksys WPC300N - It is a -N device. I really crossed my fingers with this purchase. Well, the card works. I get solid, repeatable wireless connection to the Network/Internet anywhere in the house at 270MB/s. I have had absolutely no interference from any of my neighbor's B and G routers. I have yet to experience any degradation in speed or signal. Use: WPA2 Personal-AES for security. Faster than all the other settings I've tried.
So the 350N works in my case, as advertised. My first -N appliance - the WPC300N card for the Dell laptop also works as advertised. I haven't hooked up XBox or fully utilized/explored all the other features nor have I set up the router for VPN (one step at a time).
So here's what I have in the configuration:
Under SETUP/Basic Setup: Internet Connection Type: Automatic configuration - DHCP
DHCP Server: Enabled - Use DHCP Reservation and assign your devices (MAC Addresses) to IPs
Under SETUP/MAC Address Clone: Enable. My DELL XPS MAC is cloned here (Must do)
    Under SETUP/Advanced Routing:NAT Enabled
    Under Wireless/Basic Wireless Settings:
    Network Mode: Mixed (b/g/n)
Network Name (SSID): Put your SSID here (anything other that linksys!) Radio Band: Wide - 40MHz Channel
    Wide Channel: 3
    Standard Channel: 1 - 2.412GHz
    SSID Broadcast: Enabled
I've experimented with the Auto settings here... it works but I got better results in my case with the above.
Under Wireless/Wireless Security: Security Mode: WPA2 Personal
    Encryption: AES
Passphrase: I put a name in here
Key Renewal: The default I believe is 3600 (works). I put in 7200 (works)
Under Wireless/Wireless MAC Filter: (Kind of up to you. For added security, I enabled it and put in my Laptop and other wireless devices MAC addresses here.
    Wireless MAC Filter: Enabled
Access Restriction : Permit PCs listed below to access the wireless network.
MAC Address Filter List : Fill out your applicable MAC addresses here. Under Wireless/Advanced Wireless Settings: AP Isolation: Disabled
    Frame Burst: Enabled
    Authentication Type: (Default: Auto)
    Basic Rate: (Default: Default)
    Transmission Rate: (Default: Auto)
    N Transmission Rate: (Default: Auto)
    CTS Protection Mode: (Default: Auto)
    Beacon Interval: 50
    DTIM Interval: 1
    Fragmentation Threshold: 2307
    RTS Threshold: 2306
    Under Security/Firewall:
Firewall-SPI Firewall Protection: Enabled Everything else - default
Under Storage: I had this configured to handle my USB Terabyte drive but since decoupled it for other reasons. It works and has worked as a Network drive in my case.
Under Access Restrictions: I left everything default here.
Under Applications and Gaming: I have done nothing here. Can't advise on port forwarding or the like.
Under Administration: Everything here is vanilla except under Management I have enabled Upnp.
    Hope this helps someone.
    Cheers!

My WRT350N has given me very little trouble, however the storage link does not work that great. I definitly like the WRT350 router over my old WRT300. Thanks for the tips and info. I just wished that LInksys came out with firmware updates for there products more often that fixed bugs.

  • Problematic frame: # J java.nio.MappedByteBuffer.load()

    Helo all...
I'm getting an error when generating a PDF using BIRT Framework in Eclipse. Nothing fancy, just compiling a simple report to pdf.
The problem is, the JVM crashes with the following error:

    2. Reinstall Java on the computer - It did nothing
    3. I check the integrity of the disk C: - Nothing
I already spent two days trying to fix this and I don't have any progress. I can't find a solution on the web either.
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for the help.
But it can not be related to BIRT because it works in every other computer that I tried so far. There is only one computer that not works properly.
If it were BIRT's fault, it wouldn't work in any computer.
    Thanks again

  • Mac Book Pro & Linksys WRT350N Router

A few months ago I ungraded from a MacBook to a MacBook Pro. The MacBook connects to my wireless network without a problem. I can use the internet, download files, and transfer files from the other computers on the network. I have had no problems with the MacBook since day 1. (My partner has it now and still uses it on the network)
My new MacBook Pro is having all kinds of wireless network issues. It will connect when I turn it on, and stay connected to the internet. It works for most of the time with just checking mail or surfing, but it will not let me download anything. I am also not able to transfer any files from the other computers via the wireless network.
For example - I can connect to another computer, find the file, and start the transfer. It will start, then pause, start back up, the drops the signal completely and I have to turn the Mac off to get the network back up. It does the same for downloading a file from the internet.
I called Apple Support and they told me it was an issue that Linksys had to address. I contact Linksys and they walk me through all kinds of steps to configure my router. None of the changes they had me make improved the problem, all they did was cause the older MacBook to have the same lag issues. In the end Linksys support had me default all the settings.
I have read all kinds of posts but wasn't able to find and solid answer. So any help would be great. Is there a fix, or a router that will work? Thanks in advance.
    I am using the following.
    MacBook Pro 10.4.10
    Linksys WRT350N
All default settings with WEP turned on.

I've got issues, as seen here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1125663
This worked fine for a while, then started happening regularly on my MacBook 2.16GHz. I tried all the firmware updates on my WRT350N, only to find I'm already very much up to date. I'm now trying to dig up info on the "$2 download" which Apple once offered to enable "N" capability.

  • WRT350N - How to tell if it's V1 or V2? Having major problems with it

I have a WRT350N that I purchased about a year or so ago and I'm trying to figure out if it's V1 or V2. Seems like tons of people are having problems with this series. I was having problems with the wireless connection going dead constantly (5+ times a day). Since I work from home this was obviously not acceptable. I upgraded the firmware after talking with Linksys tech support. After that, the problem got much worse. Now the wireless connection goes down as well the router loses it's internet connection. I finally removed it from my home network and put my old reliable D-Link 614 back in place. It's been working fine and actually has way better range. Before I throw this WRT350 in the trash I would like to see if mine is V1/V2 and if there is anything I can do with it.
    Thanks!
    Matt

To find out the router's version number look at the bottom of the router, it should say Model Number : WRT350N, right next to the model number if it says V2 then it is version 2 else it is V1...I assume it should be V1...
If you have intermittent connection, you should download and upgrade your router's firmware from here
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab,
    - Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

    Hi,
Unfortunately it appears you are calling Tuxedo from Java using JNI. Although that should work, it isn't something that Oracle supports. My guess is that you are experiencing memory corruption problems due to improper handling of allocated buffers. This is part of the reason we don't support JNI as the issues related to memory management can be very complex. My suggestion is that you go to whomever has provided you the JNI code for support (Comverse?). Alternatively you could look at the various Java integration products Oracle provides for Tuxedo. The Java integration to Tuxedo options are Jolt, WebLogic Tuxedo Connector (WTC - a component of WLS), and the new Tuxedo JCA Adapter. Although if you are using a packaged application like Comverse Total Care, you'll really need to talk with them as you're unlikely to be able to switch to an Oracle supported mechanism without their help or changes on their part.

  • USB External HD with WRT350N - How to Avoid Entering Password to Access?

I just purchased my new WRT350N primarily to use the storage link feature. I have connected a 300 GB HP personal media drive (USB) to the router. The router shows up on my home network just fine. I have one wired desktop and one wireless desktop (both XP SP2) and one wireless laptop (Vista Ultimate 64-bit). When I connect to the router in XP ("My Network Places") or in Vista ("Network"), I have to enter a username (default "admin") and password (default "admin") to access the router and get to my external HD. I use the HD to, among other things, store my Thunderbird mail profile (which includes all my e-mail folders) and my KeyPass password database, as well as other applications that I want to use from my various computers. Having to use a password means I can't connect to the drive on start-up, use shortcuts to applications on the HD, etc. It's a pain in the butt, basically. Is there any way to configure the router to allow access to it, and my external HD, without the password (e.g., MAC filters)? Any other workaround's? Many thanks.

    Hi,
Have you tried enabling "Reconnect at logon" when mapping the drive?
    dRdoS7
Yes, I have tried the "Reconnect at Logon" switch selected. What happens then is that I get an error message on startup stating "Unable to Connect Some Network Drives" or something similar. I still have to use the username and password to get through the router to my external drive. I just got off the phone with Linksys tech support, a nice, knowledgeable Indian fellow who affirmed that the router could not be accessed without having to sign in. He said it was "for my security." It strikes me as odd that you can completely disable the security features of your entire wireless network by simply adjusting some settings in the router setup. But you CANNOT disable the security feature of the router access! How weird can you get - Linksys allows you to completely leave your network unprotected, but by god, you're not gonna get into that router!!! He said all of the USB-equipped routers have the same feature - Netgear, Belkin, D-link ... I am SO frustrated! I bought, and returned, the Belkin "wireless" network hub before I got the 350N. It was not possible to run Thunderbird using a profile on the HD (connected to the hub USB) because of severe stability issues. Guess what? Same thing happens when I run it through the Linksys router! Firefox simply shuts down. There was never an issue when I ran Firefox on the external HD when it was connected to my desktop. So, the search goes on - trying to find a way to access my external HD without having to have it connected to a powered PC. What a drag ...

  • Having issues with WRT350n - "No internet Access"

I am having issues with the WRT350n where I am getting an "No internet access" message. When I look at the wireless network connection I can see the wireless router and it says "connected" but when I scroll my mouse over the icon, it reads "No internet access". I try to access a webpage and it will not work. I originally had it connected and working properly in my home. However, I removed it and tried connecting in my office and started experiencing this problem. I did not run the setup using the CD provided. I just unplugged it from my home network and reconnected it to my office network, of course with a few passphrase changes and wireless MAC filters only allowing certain PC's to be able to access the internet. I double checked all MAC addresses of each device that I entered into the table and they are correct. All devices see the wireless network but cannot access the internet. Any suggestions? Should I re-run the installation using the CD?

A router once it is powered on it will always broadcast a wifi signal and will allow you to connect to the network with or without the internet connection. Once of the best way to know if the router is working ok, wire a computer directly to the router with a cable and check if you are able to go online that way. if it is working then better check that wireless mac filter, disable it first, then see if the internet will go thru. If wired to the router it is not working, then better run that setup cd again.

  • WRT350N + WMP300N = BSOD Crash on Win XP Pro SP2?

Yes, the problem I am having is that with WRT350N + Wireless + WMP300N = BSOD Crash on Win XP Pro SP2.   Really, from what I can tell, WRT350N + Wireless = BSOD Crash on Win XP Pro SP2.   Yes, I know, a router shouldn't be able to crash a computer, PC drivers, PC misconfigurations do.
However, my crashes didn't start happening until I switched to my WRT350N wireless router.  Actually, at that time I didn't even have the linksys WMP300N ... it was another wireless card.  Now I have the linksys WMP300N, and the crashes still happen.
I updated my driver on my NIC to the latest version two days ago, and at the same time upgraded the firmware on the router to the latest and greatest.  You know what that did?  Instead of crashing my PC once every day or so I get crashes about 5 mins after I start my PC.
I've tried using the linksys wireless configuration utility, and the Windows zero configuration, still crashes.  I've tried Wireless Mixed bode, BG mixed, G only, still crashes.   Different channels, still crashes.   I disabled Symantec Client Security firewall, still crashes.  Uninstalled SCS and used windows firewall, still crashes.   Disabled netbios and dynamic DNS registration on my adapter, still crashes.   Disabled wireless QoS on PC and router, still crashes.  Tried disabling and enabling (individually) Wireless AP isolation, frame burst, CTS Protection mode,  forced 54mbps rate ... still crashes.  I have no HD attached to the router.  I've disabled UPnP on the router, still crashes.
You know what does fix the crashes?  Disabling my wireless adapter.  You know what else fixes the crashes?   Connecting to a different wireless router.
I'm completely baffled.  Any ideas what I can try?  I'm an IT Consultant by trade, and have been working with PCs and networking in a professional capacity for over 8 years, so I have a decent amount of troubleshooting experience.   The BSOD doesn't say much, just equates to a hardware/driver fault ... but no indication what.   My crash dump analysis (full, not just minidump) also provides no data as to what driver).
Thoughts?  As much as I hated my former Netgear, I'm about ready to even go back to that....
Edit:  My PC is using DHCP, configured as a reserved address.
Message Edited by TroyL on 02-20-2008 07:08 AM

Hello, hopefully I can help you. Some things that resolved my issue were disabling some options in the advanced properties of my NIC (WMP300N) Even if you don't have the same NIC, you should probably have some similar options:
-Manage Wireless Settings = Disabled (note: I disabled this since I'm using Windows to manage the settings)
    -Mixed Cell Support = Disabled
    -Minimum Power Consumption = Disabled
    -Power Save Mode = Disabled
    -Wake Up Capabilities = None
    -Bluetooth Collaboration = Disabled
    -40MHz Intolerant = Disabled
Try disabling those things, and go from there ... good luck . With those settings, I haven't crashed in several months now. I don't know which setting it was fixed it, I haven't been brave enough to go playing with it again ... if it ain't broke, don't fix it, lol.

  • [wrt350n v2] FTP storage filename problems (results in file not found error)

When a file is copied to the USB storage drive which contains high range Latin1 characters (e.g. ë or ü) that file is correctly listed but it can not be downloaded, renamed or deleted.
The client receives a 451 error: File does not exist.
I was hoping anyone had a solution for this, other than connecting the drive to my PC.
    Many thanks!

  • I bought the WRT350N Now I need help

Bought the WRT350N but everything I’ve heard and read about this router is that it's garbage which I find hard to believe that Linksys would release an item that did not work if configured right.
I have 3 laptops (all factory built-in wireless connections which I believe all are 802.11g, bluetooth, and land pro 10/100/1000) and 2 desktop computers (one utilizes a Belkin 802.11g 125 2.4GHz and the other desktop and my current Belkin wireless router is connected to the internet via a 3Com 8/TCP Hub.)
I am trying to accomplish three things by upgrading my wireless router.
    1) Increase the range and preformance of the wireless network.
    2) Make it easier and more secure to share the hard drives and printers connected to my main desktop (computer currently connected to the internet via the 3Com Hub), and a HP USB 2.0 500GB Personal Media Drive. (I am currently NOT SHARING anything because I am utilizing the 3Com Hub in order to obtain maximum performance for my main desktop computer and trying to share anything on it create a security nightmare)
    3) Reason for upgrading to the WRT350N is that I wanted to plan for the future upgrade of both the wireless and hard wired network cards.
Questions / Best way to proceed:
    1) If I replace the 3Com Hub with the WRT350N router, then connect my desktop (that is currently connected via the 3Com Hub) to one of the 10/100/1000 network connections on the router, will I see a noticeable difference in my desktop PC internet connection performance or is the 10/100/1000 network connection more like a pass-through on the 3Com Hub? Current dslreports dot com speed test is (Down / Up -- 9909 / 1114 (1000 bits pre second)), which is about average for my cable connection.
1.b) If connected as described in 1.a above will I decrease the available band width the router uses for the wireless connections when the desktop is downloading large download?
1.c) Or should I connect the WRT350N router and my desktop to the network via the 3Com Hub? And if this is the best to way to configure my network dose anyone know how to configure / install the WRT350N router through the 3Com Hub?
    2) If connected as described in 1.a above is it possible to share the peripherals connected to my main desktop with the other wireless computers in my house without unnecessarily exposing my main desktop to the internet?
    3) Since all my wireless computes are 802.11g, bluetooth, and land pro 10/100/1000, will the WRT350N router handle all the different connections automatically?
    OR
If someone knows of any other Linksys N compliant router that may be better than the WRT350N for my situation please reply with your suggestions / comments because I can still exchange it for a different router
I don’t mind spending the money if this is the best way to go.
Thanks in advance for any help / suggestions.

  • How to setup the WRT350N to use a USB NTFS Drive for backup storage?

My network consists of a WRT350N Router/AP/NAS (with a 500GB NTFS formatted USB drive), a Windows Vista Ultimate Desktop (wired connection), a Windows Pro SP2 Desktop (wired connection) and a Windows Pro SP2 Laptop (wireless connection).
Does anyone know what settings to use for the WRT350N and how to setup each of the computers to allow me to use the WRT350N for Backup file Storage?
For example: Can I/should I enable and use the ftp server functions?  Can I just use the guest user account for all logins; etc.?  Do I have to reformat the USB Drive to FAT32?
    Any help would be appreciated!

Here is the clue to your question.
1.If you have formatted your Disk with the help of your computer it will be better if you reformat it with the "Erase" button
available on the Storage Tab of the Linksys
    router's Setup page.
2.After that You need to make sure that you have
public IP address as your WAN IP on the status of the router to setup a FTP server.
3.You can use guest account for all your users but
please make sure that you select guest as group
    while creating user.

  • Connecting laptop to WRT350N and wireless security

Hi, I have the following problem. I need to connect a laptop to WRT350N router. Everything works OK if I do NOT use wireless security. If I use PSK (WAP) then at the Preferred Network screen I set the settings to WAP/PSK and enter the shared key. However, this setting is overruled again and again. I can not save it. If I select my network from the networklist, many times the laptop doesn't even ask for the shared key. And if it does then it acts as if I have installed WEP on the router (which isn't the case!). I use Windows XP Home. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to solve it? Many thank, JFX

I have a second laptop connected to the router which works ok with both the non-secured and the WAP/PSK-secured environment. The one that is not working is a Sony Vaio with LAN-express AS 802.111g card for which I have the latest driver installed. For the WRT350N also the latest firmware installed (WRT350N v2 firmware 2.016) JFX
