WRT350N Storage Password Access in Vista

This might be a known problem 'cause I saw at least one other thread where this was mentioned.
I have a USB drive connected to my WRT350N and a share setup on the router. I can mount the drive locally via "Map Network Drive" and \\192.168.1.1\MyDrive and I can even do it across the WAN using the routers WAN IP. When the drive is mapped I get a password dialog and can mount the drive using user "Guest" with no password.
My problem is that I can't get Vista to accept the passwords for any other accounts than the guest account. I get a "Logon Unsuccessful" message. This includes the admin account. No a big problem for my local network since I can mount drives under the guest account and grant guest access to all the drives fo RW, but not wise for accessing my data across the internet.
Anyone have any ideas - Is this a Vista thing or something that will need to wait for Firmware 2.0 for the WRT350N?
Thanks!
Rob

I have the same logon problem using Vista Home Premium edition.
The is no "secpol.msc" file to edit. Any other options?

  • WRT350N USB Driva access on Vista 64

Has anyone had any luck getting it to work in NTFS?  I can get it to read NTFS, but it will not write. I have tried the ext3 with no luck (which was a suggestion by Western Digital), and am currently at FAT32.
Any suggestions. I'm using Vista 64 Ultimate with a WD 500 GB USB 2.0
I mean this stuff should be just olug and play right...hehe

That is not true at all, I have a 1 Tera Byte Buffalo USB/Firewire Storage Station (2 x 500Gig HDD's in spanned raid mode) connected to my WRT350N router and I am able to see the whole partition and can copy to and from files with no problems.

  • WRT610N - Storage - Password access to router's mapped drive with XP Home

Is there a way to bypass the Linksys login screen when clicking on the router's mapped drive in XP Home?

We might have two things being discussed here - 1) changing a password to a existing storage account and 2) the problem of windows storing the user/password for a mapped drive after a reboot.
I'm struggling with with windows storing the user /password for my mapped drive (the external hardrive plugged into the router's USB).  If I can't figure this out...I might as well return the router?!  I have the "reconnect button" checked and "connect using a different user name" filled out properly. So what's the deal?  Maybe someone from Linksys should address this problem.  It may seem trivial to login every time but it ruins the way iTunes works and I'm guessing other music/photo software applications.  If itunes can't "see" the drive at login it deafults to your "My Document/My Music" directory so everytime you have to manual re-point the library.  I hope I'm clear.  Linksys please help!

  • Create password access to a site in Dreamweaver CC

Trying to create a password protected site. I have an intro page and want to have a password required to access the main site. I am using hostgator and from what I can see, they only have a username password access. I need just the password access for our members to access the site. I added server behaviors ext to my Dreamweaver CC but the + sign is grayed out. Ideas?

    Hi
in addition to Ben's recommendation: The easiest way - in my opinion - to protect the recommended website(s) with a password is to ask your provider for this possibility. I can show you here the menu of my German host (Passwortschutz > Password protection):
Here an example of one of my websites, where I used my providers service. You can see what happens if you don't know the required details:
http://dala-laegret1963.de/AccBlocked/AccBlocked.php. There only these users who know the passwords can enter this website.
As you can see I didn't struggle to write the ".htaccess" file of myself, and here I quote Nancy O's hints:
a secure create sign-up page.  When form is submitted, MySQL database is appended with new log-in credentials.
a MySQL database to store unique ID, username, password with a date and timestamp to measure how old each password is.
another secure log-in page to verify valid username, password and date and timestamp.  If it's accepted, a session is created and redirects user to confidential areas of the site.
a log-out page to kill the session.
an error page for when username & password are not found in database.
a secure new password page for when date & timestamp are too old.
For all these things I use the provider's (ISP) service. The advantage is, that the two files (.htaccess and .htpasswd) are created simultaneously and systemconform.  You will find this offer, I am sure, at your provider's website.
Dreamweaver has so too a very easy server-side authentication behaviors built-in... have you looked at those? (Server Behaviors --> Authenticate Users)

  • Firefox 6.0.1 update won't recognize the home page which uses a password access which has been saved into 6.0.1.

    Question
Firefox 6.0.1 update won't recognize the home page which uses a password access which has been saved into 6.0.1. The security shows permissions for the web site but doesn't recognize that I've been accessing the web page every day since I updated to 6.0.1. Web page trying to access is <http://classic.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=zmw:98108.5.99999> This home page worked fine on earlier versions of Firefox and continues with Internet Explorer 9.0.

Looks like its been fixed for me, not by 6.0.1 but by - Todd Siechen from http://www.dvdthemepak.com

Checked for duplicate fonts and found about 5, selected "Resolve Duplicates" and everything great, even with old projects... You should work for Apple!

    1) The first and biggest culprit we found to be causing problems is with font issues. In order to alleviate this problem, open Font Book and make sure all the Fonts that are turned on have no dots next to them. If they do then select them and select "Resolve Duplicates" from the Edit menu. If you are using a different font manager then use whatever tool is available to make sure no duplicate fonts are loaded. iDVD 6 is very sensitive to this.

  • What Everyone Should KNow and Linksys Should Advertize About WRT350N Storage Link Limitations

I have spent hours with Linksys online chat trying to get my wrt350N storage link to work as advertised. Basically, I want to hook up a 400gb mybook hard drive and use the networked drive to backup my netwroked computers over the wireless network. While I can write individual files to the networked hard drive, and can copy and paste large folders using windows explorer, I can not use backup programs. The netowrked drive reports incorrect information as to its capicity to "my computer" and always shows up as "read only" while some programs don't seem to mind this, every backup program I have used has problems with this clitch.
After several sessions with linksys and having retuend the router to linksys for a new one, this is what technical support said this morning:
"You: ok so if I have you right, the router's storage link is not guaranteed to work at all with >300gb storage devices, does not work at all with 3rd party backup programs, and does not provide a backup program of its own, is that the bottom line?
Tech Support: Exactly. That's its product limitation."
Just so everyone is clear, Linksys does not gauruntee that storage link works at all with drives greater than 300gb, it is not compatable with 3rd part backup progrmas and does not provide a backup program of its own.
This is independant of ntfs vs fat32 and yes I do have the new firmware 1.03.2 and have it correctly installed (linksys checked all of my settings online).
If I am missing something and there are others out there who are gettnig storage link to work with backup software, I would love to know what I am doing wrong, because 7 different linksys tecnical support people have been unable to tell me.
Since Linksys is unwilling to place these product limitations on their packaging, I thought that potential users deserve to know the limitations of this product.

  • Password access

Help! I have upgraded my daughters Z10 to the new operating system 10.3.1.1565 and where she had a downloaded password access app this has now gone and the standard "enter device password" is needed for access which unfortunately she doesn't remember! We are now upto incorrect password 9/10 how can I reset and access the phone?

Continue entering the wrong password and the device will initiate a security wipe. Let the wipe finish. All user data and settings will be deleted, including the password lock setting.

  • WRT350N, Drive access in Vista

I have the WRT350N router with a hard disk attached.  My network consists of 2 Vista systems and one XP system.  I am able to connect to the hard drive via all 3 systems, and have mapped the drive as directed by others on this forum (thanks!).
My problem is that the 2 Vista systems cannot copy/paste files & folders from other systems to the router-connected drive---I get an error of "There is not enough space on All_Partitions (Linksyswrt350n).  You need additional KB to copy these files."   It shows "Space Free: 0 bytes" even though the disk has over 300GB available on it.  Interestingly, I can save new files to the drive as well as opened files that I save to the new location.  I just cannot copy files directly from a Vista system to the router-drive.
On the other hand, the XP system machine can copy/paste/etc. without any errors or issues, so I can at least see that it does work okay with one of my computers.
I have tried searching through the forum as well as checking other Internet sites for a solution.  It's obviously a Vista system issue and I suspect there is some specific item I am missing in the router setup or on the Vista machines that could prevent this space-related error.
Any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated!
    JR

I just formatted my new external drive (while connected to my computer directly) with 1 NTFS partition.
The drive is now connected to the router via USB.
In Vista Explore, in the Network tree I see:
    LINKSYS350N
    -All_Partitions
    -Config
    -Printers
Nothing is in any of the folders.
Qtn:  Is "All_Partitions" my physical drive?
If so, I haven't yet mapped the drive.
If I try to save a document to that drive/folder, I get a message that says "File not found" & "Try a different name..."
Is there some permission settings that need to be set?
I tried to "Map Network Drive..." on All_Partitions, I put in the router login information and was told "The drive is currently already mapped using a different username and password"
How do I gain access to the drive?  And what is the way Linksys would prefer us to set up the drive on the network to best work with the router's features?
    Thanks, Mark

  • Wrt350n - storage issue

I upgraded my WRT350N to 1.03.7 as I added a WD 500GB USB 2.0 drive (NTFS formated). The problem arises when a workstation attached to the drive and has not been authenticated (i.e. home XP Pro PC has no password authentication, I attach (net use n: ...) the storage device. I then setup the screen saver on the PC to use pictures referencing the new network drive. So far okay, but then the PC reboots. The network drive has not been authenticated. PC locks (only Alt-Ctl-Del seems to work to get out of the lockup) as does the WRT350N (the router passes traffic, but can not be administered, and storage can not be accessed - must be power reset to fix). Any suggestions other than add a password to my home PC?

I was running the beta fw version. Problem occurred when I upgraded/downgraded (not sure which based on forum posts) to the latest production version 1.03.7. Maybe I should go back to the beta ver.

  • WRT350N error message while doing Vista back-up

I have a hard drive attached to the USB port on this router.  While attempting a backup from Vista, I get this error message:  "cannot create a file when that file already exists."
I have a feeling that this is something not eaisly fixed.  User has admin rights on both the Vista box and router and the user name and password for that user are the same on both.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Dana

It might be something do with the User Permissiong, which you have created on your Router. Make sure you have given appropriate rights to the users which you have created on your Router.
Login to the Router setup page, Click on the Storage Tab, Below the storage tab you will find a sub tab "Administration" you will be able to see the users which you have created on your Router and their permissiong.
Again below the Storage tab you will see the sub tab "Disk" click on it and under the "Shared Folders" you will see the folders which you have created on your Disk, Click on Edit and under Access check the User and click on (>>) to give a user full rights and click on Save Settings.
Now on your computer, You need to Re-Map the network drive on your computer and now check if you are able to transfer the files on your Drive.

  • WRT350N - Storage Feature Performance

Yesterday I purchased the WRT350N. The 'other' gigabit wireless router was $130. The WRT350N was $199. The reason I paid the difference was for the storage access feature. I have an external HD that was connected to a desktop. In the house we use laptops and have our media on this drive. We use the Windows offline files feature to have a current synced copy on our laptops at all times. Also, if the drive was to fail we have copies of the files on our laptops as well. Whenever we connect to the network, the drive automatically syncs.
With this configuration everything works great with that exception that the desktop has to remain on at all times. With the WRT350N I saw an opportunity to use the router instead. By the way, the drive is formatted FAT32.
From the moment I created the share and connected from a PC there were performance issues. The root drive showed up fine. I can see all the files (about 10 folders and a dozen files -- at the root). Once I double-clicked the 'My Music' folder, which contains about 60 folders and 100 files, the display took several minutes.
I thought maybe it was caching the file lists....I don't know. It's a new router. Maybe it would be better the next time I went in. Nope. It is consistently slow. I used the Windows Media Player to search for music files. It won't complete.
While I can still surf the Internet, I can't access the drive at all once it froze. I had to unplug the router.
So.....I spent $69 extra dollars for this functionality. I hope that a firmware upgrade is coming.

Having the same problem. Everything works fine except for the ftp server. I can reach it through my LAN but not from the internet. I wasn't even pingable until I flashed the firmware with the same version a couple times. Now I'm pingable but still no outside access.

  • Alias could not be opened/Name or password is incorrect (Vista- OSX woes)

I recently bought a Macbook (my first Mac, loving it by the way) so I'm trying to find a way to access all my media files on my windows PC over my wireless network. I've enabled sharing on both my Windows and my Mac and using my Windows Laptop to copy files onto the Mac is absolutely fine. However, the problem occurs when trying to access my Windows Laptop with my Macbook.
When I go through finder and browse to my Windows Laptop using 'Network' from the sidebar, I get a prompt for workgroup/username/password, and after entering get the error message:
The alias "_" could not be opened because the original item cannot be found
If I hit command + K instead (in finder) and enter the IP address of my Windows Laptop, I get a different error message:
Could not connect to the server because the name or password is incorrect
Does anyone know why this is happening? I've been googling for the past 2 hours but am yet to find a solution.
    Additional info:
    1. I'm using the workgroup/administrative account name/administrative password to log onto the Windows Laptop when prompted.
    2. I am getting the option to choose which shared folder I want access to before I get the prompt.
This wouldn't be so irritating if it wasn't so easy to access my Macbook's files using the Windows Laptop. I just want things to work as well the other way around.
    Can anyone help me?

A great link for seeing how to set it up with windows xp. Can't imagine Vista has changed it much.
