Wrt350n usb storage- what will it handle

The doc seems to imply that if you hook a usb disk up, it will have to be reformatted. Is this correct?
Can I move an existing ntfs file syetem usb disk from a windows xp computer to the wrt350n storage usb slot, and actually access the ntfs data?
It says it supports multiple disk partitions. This suggests one might support multiple USB disks as individual partitions with a usb hub? Is that correct?
fyi for you browsers...
This is a slick feature, the docs could use some fleshing out.
In searching for an answer to my question, I came across lots of how the heck do you use this (wrt350n storage)- Go to the set up page usually at 192.168.1.1,
click storage. One of the screens will let you name the "computer", defaults
to linksyswrt350n or some such (lets say foo), and the windows workgroup
name to join, lets say "myworkgroup". Also name the partition "mydisk"
Then computers in Myworkgroup see a network computer named
\\foo\mydisk\
good luck...

Hi,
NTFS works. No need to reformat, existing data is safe (unless you use Linksys to erase it).
On the first tab "Disk", have you done "Create Share"?
On the next tab "Shares", it should show the HD under "Share Name" as "All_Partitions".
Press "Create New Share", give it a "Share Name" and save.
You might have to set permissions under "Share Access".
Under the tab "Administration", set the "Machine Name" and "Workgroup Name" I used the same WG as my network.
Under "User Management", "User Name / Properties", set a password.
You can also setup "FTP Server", both local and internet access.
It's a couple of month since I set mine up.
Good luck,
dRdoS7.

  • WRT350N - USB Storage; How to??

    Hello all,
This is the first time I have entered this forum! It looks excellent.
A week ago I bought myself a wireless-N router, the WRT350N. I bought this one because of the excellent reviews and most of all because of the USB-storage link.
This router works very fine. I have already connected my HP C5180 All In One.
However, now I want to connect my external hard drive. This is untill now not successfull. I hope someone can help me.
    I'm running:
    - notebook from HP, the DV9870ED with Windows Vista.
    - external drive, a Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 250 GB with USB 2.0. This external HD is not empty. The File System is NTFS.
When I look 'in' the router I can see my External HD. As far as I know I have shared it. I have not claimed it, because in my opinion it looks like this will erase the HD and it is stored with important data. What is the next step or what are the next steps?
Please, can someone hand out a tutorial or a step-by-step manual?
    Thanking you in advance.
    Kind Regards.

  • WRT350N-USB Storage

I have an external drive mapped and working Ok.
However, on the first boot of the computer, I always have to log-in when accessing the storage via Windows Explorer.
    Anyway to disable this log-in?
I found the log-in info under the router's Storage/Admin-User Management area. It's not the same log-in as when accessing the router via it's IP.
Tried just leaving it blank, but that doesn't work.
Live Chat said to use the same as my computer's log-in. However, I do not have a pass set for this computer as I'm the only one on it and I don't want to be going thru that routine everytime I turn on the computer. Besides, unless something is changed in the router, I think it would ask for it anyway.
Any ideas? Need it disable it so that camera security software can access it without having to 'log-in' since that software obviously can't do that.
    Thanks all.
    T.O.

You can try disabling the option under internet explorer "enable anonymous login"
    Click OK....
Also delete all files & cookies under internet options ..... delete username & password also ....

  • Setting up WRT350N USB Storage Disk

Well, I'm about 24 hours from returning this router!  I've setup and encrypted the network with no issues, the storage drive... that's another story!!  I have a WD 320 Gig external that is hanging off of the router.  I've tried to follow the cryptic Linksys help screens to set up the drive, but I'll be (censored) if I can find the **bleep** thing on the network.  Are there instructions out on the WEB or can some sharp network type put into english the secret of making the storage drive visible and available on the internal network?  Any help would be MOST APPRECIATED!!!!

yes..that's right...u need to click on claim disk / claim to format the drive

  • WRT350N FTP access to USB storage

I have my WRT350N setup.  all computers within my LAN can access my usb storage device.   I can not access my usb storage device using a computer outside my LAN.
if you log on to 99.225.89.229:8080 it will ask you for user id and pass word to log into my router.
if you try to log on to 99.225.89.229:21 it wont even connect asking you for a user id and password.
my guess is the router is not allowing port 21 to be accessed, but I'm not sure.  Any one know how to fix this problem?

Upgrade the router with a latest firmware first..
Once its upgraded reset the router for 30 sec and then reconfigure the router again..
Open the FTP port 21 on the port range triggering option.
Basically port range triggering is for the incomming ports and when you try to access the USB from outside LAN then this port 21 will help you with it..

  • I am replacing my iMac with a Windows 7 OS Wireless Desktop. What storage capabilities will the TC provide?

I am replacing my iMac with a Windows 7 OS Wireless Desktop. What storage capabilities will the TC provide?

You are a brave man posting that sort of info around here.
The TC is still a good router with storage ability you can use on Win7. It is slow and more suited to the wireless backup for laptops, which is what it was ideal for. So if you don't yet own a TC, don't buy one.
You can do as well with a USB hard drive on a router. But if  you already have it, it is usable, albeit slow.

  • I am trying to edit my music list and then sync it to my iPhone 5 so I don't run out of storage space. However, I see the check marks on the iTunes library but am unable to uncheck them? How do I manually edit what will be synced to my phone?

I am trying to edit my music list and then sync it to my iPhone 5 so I don't run out of storage space. However, I see the check marks on the iTunes library but am unable to uncheck them? How do I manually edit what will be synced to my phone? (the check marks are not bolded, does this mean they are not in my library but only on my phone?)

You uncheck the music in your iTunes library on your computer and along with sync only checked songs and videos selected under the Summary selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, only checked songs in your iTunes library will be transferred to your iPhone or remain on your iPhone and the unchecked songs in your iTunes library that are currently on your iPhone will be removed when syncing.
Or make use of iTunes playlists and choose selected playlists, albums, artists under the Music selection for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and select the playlists below that you want transferred to your iPhone.

  • What USB storage devices have a block size of 512 bytes?

After pulling my hair out for weeks trying to get a usb hard drive to work with my new AirPort Extreme (802.11n), I ran across this
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305038
AirPort Extreme (802.11n): USB storage device supported formats and protocols
You can connect USB-based storage devices to an AirPort Extreme (802.11n). Learn which formats and protocols are supported.
The AirPort Extreme (802.11n) supports USB storage devices that have a block size of 512 bytes, and are formatted as Mac OS Extended (HFS-plus), FAT16, or FAT32. Not all USB storage devices use a block size of 512 bytes.
The AirPort Extreme (802.11n) shares storage devices based on the format used to initialize the storage device. For example, if HFS-plus formatting was used, AFP and SMB/CIFS protocols are used to share the device on the network. If FAT16 or FAT32 was used, SMB/CIFS protocols are used.
The AirPort Extreme (802.11n) works with disks that have a single partition and are not software RAID volumes (no more than one volume per physical disk). If the disk is a self-contained RAID that presents itself to a computer as a single volume requiring no software support, then it is supported.
Note: Use AirPort Disk Utility to discover and mount AirPort Extreme-based volumes over the network.
Now, this information is not easily obtainable while
shopping for a new usb hard drive. How do I find out which
ones support this 512 byte block size????
Would have bee nice to know that not all usb hard drives
are supported by the AirPort Extreme (802.11n) before I
    purchased it.
    Thanks
    J Riley

Duane posted a link to an unofficial 802.11n Airport Extreme Hard Drive Compatibility List.

Still not enough information to make an informed purchase that
    will work.

  • One eight core xserve, will it handle what I need it to do?

My new xserve specs are eight cores @ 2 ghz, 4 gig ram, 2 TB raid 5.
I will have 150 macbook clients, that will not be on netboot. I want to store user home folders, and authenticate. Will this server be able to handle ichat and ical servers for about 20 users? Do I need another server for just ichat and ical or will one handle authentication, home folder storage, ichat(20 users), and ical (20 users)? Apple salesman says that he suggests another just for ichat/ical, but I have been told that I can get away with just one.
I eventually want to get another for backup directory server and can migrate ical/ichat but would like to put it off until later.
    Thanks for help on this.

what will happen to my files if i downgrade my storage plan? will my files be deleted? just locked? just putted in reading mode?

If you reduce your storage plan the data over that amount will be deleted from iCloud. They will not be deleted from the device.
No telling where the removal will start. Could be your movies or your email.

  • What will happen if I upgrade my icloud storage?

I have a 16gb ipad that I have for already a year and 3 months in IOS 7.1.0 . Since my ipad is only 16gb, I already used a lot of storage and it's only 1.2 gb left. I maintain my storage like that for about a month already but I'm afraid that it will all be used up in no time because my family always go on trips which means we have to take pictures. But, I was looking around in the settings and I saw an icloud storage plan. I'm really convinced to upgrading my icloud. But, what will happen if I upgrade my icloud storage? Will my storage increase? Or something else will happen

Upgrading icloud storage WILL not upgrade storage on ipad. Buying another ipad of larger size will.
