WRT350N - version and random disconnects?

Is it true that WRT350N disconnects a lot, i.e. cannot hold connection? How can you tell which version it is BEFORE buying it? thanks,

The version no. is mentioned on the router( at the bottom).
I intend to buy it but I've heard so many bad things so now I hesitate to buy this brand. Which version should I look for? And if I can influence it as vendors sell whatever they have and don't have time to disclose these details. Thanks,

  • WRT54G version 6 random disconnects

I have upgraded the firmware, reset, rebooted, everything the non english speaking tech support told me. The router still randomly disconnects. The only way to fix it is to reboot it. HELP. I am a gamer, and cant have this.

LOL.... been there... done that. Modem is fine. I've sifted through these forums and the FAQ's before I made a post. All the noob steps have been done man. Trust me. I did come across somewhere else though that the newer versions of this modem are made with less memory and therefore may be a hardware issue that can't be fixed. Is this true?Message Edited by Mojofoot on 02-12-200707:40 PM

  • Anyone else experiencing this? WRT54G version 6 random disconnects

My router randomly disconnects from the internet and only a reboot will get it back. Very bad for gaming. I have updated the firmware, reset, and reboot the router countless times. I have cable internet, so I disconnected the computer from the router and hooked it directly tot he modem.... no disconnects. Any suggestions?

I don't suppose a version 6 can be downgraded to a 3 with just a firmware change? Anyway, I too have had many problems of dropping connections and having to reboot my laptop and re-running "Secure Easy Setup". Today I downgraded my security settings from WPA-Personal to WEP 128 bit and so far have had no dropouts. Wonder if anyone else has tried this approach? If so, then Lynksys needs to do some serious re-working of their security software. BTW, I was never able to make WPA-2 ever work...system always reverted to WPA-Personal.

  • Disconnects on Accessing HH and Random Disconnects...

System is BT HH Ver 2.0 Type B with Firefox v.3.6.13
On a number of occasions I have found random disconnects in the event log and disconnects when I go to access the HH and type in my password, when the BB light goes out and then the yellow comes on and it begins the reconnect sequence.   These are shown in the Log, but it doesn't seem to make any obvious change to the line synch rate.

The events at 20:02 and 22:55 were caused by my accessing the HH and typing in my password.   The others were random disconnects - the HH has not been switched off for some days and the computer was only switched on aorund 15:00 hrs.
The line synch rate at 23:12 is
    Downstream    10,134 Kbps
    Upstream    1,078 Kbps
The changes to the Noise Margin/Attneuation and Power are very minor fractions of a dB from previous checks.  The line is quiet.  Distance to the Crowthorne exchnage is ca 966m.
I have even had disconnects using IE 6.0 on Feb 3.
Does anybody else get these effects?   Is it a faulty HH?   Is it some interference on the line?
This looks similar to the problem under "home hub keeps resetting" from "technobaz" today

Further to the saga of disconnects shown by my HH2 Events Log I have had helpful support from Forum
Moderators.   They arranged for OpenReach technician to call again subsequent to the 25 Feb visit on 9
March.    The Moderators could still see my line problems from their site (where ever that is!).   I have had
the HH2 Type B powered on for over two months (to ensure line stability) and the line Down Rate has
    gradually reduced
    17 Jan 2011     Downstream    11,347 Kbps      Upstream    828 Kbps
            Noise margin (Down/Up)    14.8 dB / 12.6 dB
            Line attenuation (Down/Up)    27.0 dB / 11.9 dB
    9 Mar 2011    Downstream    1,151 Kbps     Upstream    1,078 Kbps
             Noise margin (Down/Up)    27.9 dB / 8.0 dB
            Line attenuation (Down/Up)    26.7 dB / 11.8 dB
the ADSL statistics had varied slightly over the period and the Event Log typically showed disconnects with
    the text, e.g.
    Feb 2 06:13:45 2011    (112240.430000) danube_dsl_ioctl:73: Failed ioctl 270 errno 22

My line still showed the disconnects.    I also tried my neighbour's HH2 Type A for 24 hrs on 7/8 Mar for
comparison.  He was getting no disconnects on his line.   The Type A Event Log  showed on the 8 Mar my
line disconnects, albeit in a slightly different set of "text language" to the Type B -  so it was not a router
    problem!

On the 9 Mar visit, OpenReach made a series of comprehensive tests isolating the house/manhole line,
checking equipment in the exchange and green street interface box/exchange line.   My house line (some
10m) was showing good insulation resistance and similarly the box/exchange line a very high insulation
resistance.   The value surprised me, but a Google check shows a value of 10000 Mohms/km may be
    typical.
However, somewhere between the green box and my pavement manhole the insulation resistance was low.
I am now awaiting for the bad section to be located and my present twisted pair to exchanged for a good
pair.   I hope after a few days the Line Synch Rate may get back to the original values.

  • New DSL service and random disconnects

Hello, I just moved into a brand new house and had Verizon DSL installed a few days ago. Everything is brand new in the home, and even the neighborhood itself. I'm experiancing random disconnect from the internet. I have the Verizon DSL 3mps plan and the Westell 7500 wireless router/modem. All the lights on the modem stay green but the internet light will just go out. It won't flash or anything. It just loses it's connection. When I reboot the route/modem it will then reconnect to the internet. Sometimes it can stay connected for 12 hours other times it will disconnect every 15 minutes. The DLS light stays connected however the whole time. I have no phones/faxes/DVR's hooked into my phone jacks. The only device hooked into a phone jack is my modem. I lost the log files of my last disconnect when I rebooted the modem. If you need that I can post it later when it disconnects again. Here are some specs from the router:

Do you have a house alarm? The alarm uses the phone to dial out and needs a special filter installed at the alarm jack. (RJ31X)

  • I use Firefox as my browser. I have Norton 360 Premier and my Windows firewall is off. Yet I experience frequent and random disconnects from the Internet. How do I prevent these actions? H. C.

I use Time Warner for ISP and do not have wireless features. The modem appears to have a live link even when Firefox indicates the internet connection has disconnected. The signal strength has been checked by T-W. further, this problem predates my use of Time Warner cable and in a different geographic location.
When I attempt to reestablish the connection I get the error message that Firefox is not responding. When I restart or reboot from a shutdown the connection can always be made.
sometimes the disconnect occurs very soon and sometimes hours later. Help!

Symantec have released an update for Norton 360 to make it compatible with Firefox 4, for details see http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US

  • Very slow broadband speed and random disconnection...

I have a problem with my home hub and broadband connection. The download speed is ridiculously low at only 768 kbits per second. I have been running speed tests all week and the speed has been getting gradually slower and slower starting at around 1.4mbits and lowering to between 0.4 and 0.8 mbps. The broadband is also losing connection every so often.
This has been happening for a few weeks now, ever since the broadband and phone lights on my Hub turned orange, then continually flashed orange, went green then went off and then back to orange, flashed orange, then green then off and this cycle repeated until I restarted my Hub. Upon restarting the power light turned solid red and did not change. So I restarted it again. This time it rebooted properly (or so it seems to have). Before this the hub was (still slow) around 2mbps although this was much better than the speed now.
I have a BT home hub version 1.5. I am on Bt Broadband option 3 meaning I should have unlimited broadband. Reason why I am asking for help is I am getting lag when ever I play games on My xbox 360 or browse on my laptop.  Im in scotland, dundee in the DD2 post code area if that matters.
I have not tried plugging directly into the main telephone socket yet but as I have been using BT for well over 4 years and not had as little speed as this Im doubtful its due to interferance.
Any help would be fantastic. I just want to be able to play my **bleep** xbox again
Here is the DSL information. I have recently restarted my Hub (due to the broadband cutting out again). This is why the uptime is so low.

Quick update: Well, I moved my hub and have plugged it into the master test socket... Couldn't connect at all wirelessly, so I had to phone up the BT helpline, they changed the wireless channel and I got on after that (however the assistant said that my plugging into the socket should not have disabled the wireless.) As for the speed, well, needless to say there is little to no improvement. I cannot post my DSL stats, as I cannot even connect to my home hub via the ip address and the bthomehub.home address as the connection times out.
The speedtester on the other hand is working. Here are those results:

    0 Kbps
    500 Kbps

For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 100-500 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :4704 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 8.62:28.39:63.06 (SBE:NBEBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
    2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.

    >Upload speed achieved during the test was - 307 Kbps
     Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 448 Kbps
I have noticed that the DSL downstream speed has shot up remarkably (by about 4000) since plugging it in to the test socket, but for some reason, the IP profile is still very low, I would have expected it to have went up at least a little but it has remained the same for the past 2 days now should I be concerned with this or give it some more time?
Oh and I have an engineer coming to the house on friday, turns out when my parents were installing the broadband accelerator they inadvertently knocked out the wires to the extensions and now none of the extensions in the house are working so I hope he or she can resolve things with my speed and I will update on Friday evening, and again next Wednesday(after the 5 day period) to see if the IP profile speed has improved.

  • Sporadic random disconnects this week, very bad to...

I've never had any problems with BT Home 2.0 until this week, I have moved nothing about in my room nor adjusted any settings on the hub and my PC. I have changed the filter and still the same problems occur. I've noticed a lot CRC /HEC errors on the up stream... I live in Bristol if that might help to solve the problem. Maybe something next door could be affecting the line or a BT engineer has messed around with something on the exchange? (I am using a wired connection BTW). Any help and suggestions appreciated, thanks, Rob.

Sorry I can't offer any magic suggestions.   I had been getting regular disconnects for some months and even though I was keeping the router continuoulsy powered to avoid loss of line synchronisation it still was occurring.   See my comments in the thread "Re: Disconnects on Accessing HH and Random Disconnects at Night" for 10 Feb.
The Forum Moderators were very helpful and responded to my queries and arranged four visits from OpenReach to try and sort out the problem.    Eventually they decided that there was a fault in the exchange boards and made some change.  Subsequently I kept the router powered up until the 13 May to make sure there was no synchronisation interrupts.   The line eventually stabilised at 14,336 kbps.   It has remained at that even with my logical disconnects at night from the HH Home Page.
I found from a search back in Jan as reported in the thread "Re: HH Type B Energy Consumption & Switching Off the Router" , that the Type A software version was 8.1.H.J.  I don't know if it has been upgraded since.   I have found for my Type B that when received it back in Oct 2010 the ver was 4.7.5.1.83.3.5. and it is now ....83.3.18.   -  when it was changed/upgraded I don't know.
As I say, although I still get random disconnects, it doesn't seem to affect my line rate.   Not sure if it is noise on the line (i have made a quiet line check and that is OK) as the Noise Margin is ca 7.6-9.1dB.   I get disconnects sometimes when I try to look at the ADSL Settings, etc., having typed in the password for access.  I have just looked at my Events Log and there have been a number of disconnects today since the router was logically connected at 14:04 this afternoon; 5 in total I think!   And the rate is still shown as 14,336 kbps.

Having said that your rate is quite reasonable and unless you are playing games or watching videos perhaps the interrupts will not be serious.   We only use it for email, family history, ebay and browsing so it is not really noticeable.

  • My phone will randomly disconnect from the wifi and when I retype the password it says it is wrong. It will eventually work but I have to wait for a message to pop up on my screen to allow me to retype the wifi password.

When I first got my phone it worked perfectly fine with the wifi. Although later on I began to have problems connecting it. It will randomly disconnect from the wifi and when I try to retype the password it tells me it is wrong, although it is right. It will eventually work but in its own time, a message will pop up and allow me to type in the password and it will work. But sometimes it takes an hour or more and sometime it takes 10 minutes. I've seen where other people have had this problem but I don't know how to fix it. I'm not sure if it's an issue with my phone or if it's with my wifi. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Does this happen with all Wi-Fi hotspots?  A specific one?
Have you tried forgetting the Wi-Fi connection and then reconnecting to it?
What about power cycling the Wi-Fi router?

  • The Wi-Fi randomly disconnects, and now it is not even available as an option in the "Network Preferences" area.

After having the MacBook Pro for about 1.5 years, the Wi-Fi randomly disconnected. Ethernet works fine, however, whenever I tried clicking "Turn Wi-Fi On", nothing happens. I have tried a SMC reset, resetting the PRAM (resetting the PRAM worked for a bit and then suddenly it didn't), and shutting down/restarting the laptop multiple times. Often times does the Wi-Fi turn back on, however it immediately disconnects after about a minute. Now I have come to a point where, in the Network Preferences area, the Wi-Fi option is not available on the list that is on the left side of the preferences. A PRAM reset solved this case, but for some reason it doesn't work anymore. I took it into a local Mac store, where they said that they would need to check if it was the Wi-Fi card that was causing the problem and would need to charge me $50 for the tech service to check it out (which is obviously what I would not do...at least if there is some way to go around this). Help.

I am also suspicious that your WiFi card may have a probelm.
Do an SMC Reset before you do anything else.

  • USB drive randomly disconnects (and causes deep traversal in Time Machine)

I have two external drives connected through a USB hub and they get sometimes randomly disconnected. Sometimes when I plug the drives in, only one appears on the desktop. Then I unplug them, plug them back in and just the other drive appears.
The other problem is that I back up one of the drives to the other using Time Machine and when the drive disappears by itself, Time Machine needs to perform deep traversal of the whole drive AND backs up the whole drive from scratch (see the console log below).
    Any suggestions are appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Peter

The USB hub could have a problem (or not enough power); try connecting the drives directly to the Mac and see what happens. Is it a powered USB hub, and are the drives self-powered (i.e. each drive gets its own power from a wall socket/surge protector)?

    I have got a USB-N13 wireless-N300 dongle.
According to 'lspci -k' I have the drivers, and I have a wireless interface. So I know that my dongle has drivers but I don't know if they work 100% well.

This is all the information from when I fist see an wireless interface.
All, I can tell is that my wlp5s0u1 doesn't go down, but a few seconds before I plug in my wireless bridge, or enp4s0, my 'Internet stops...' Or I can't search google, and my youtube stops streaming, conky says that about 30bytes get transfered from that point on, and there is no errors?!
I'm not on a laptop, and my device's power saver is set to off. And as I'm not getting the second error I don't know how to fix this.
    $ iw dev wlp5s0u1 get power_save
    Power save: off
(Sorry if this is blatantly obvious, I've only had arch for under a month, with no prior Linux experience, and my dad can't help me with it too!)
    EDIT:
Please can someone please tell me something that I can try or look into to resolve this, I have a useless dongle now, and an Internet connection that drops at least 50% of the packets.

  • Cisco ASA 5505 Ipsec VPN and random connection dropping issues.

    Hello,
We are currently having issues with a ASA 5505 Ipsec VPN. It was configured about 7-8 months ago and has been running very well..up until the last few weeks.  For some reason, the VPN tends to randomly disconnect any user clients connected a lot.  Furthermore, sometimes it actually connects; however does not put us on the local network for some reason and unable to browse file server.  We have tried rebooting the ASA a few times and our ISP Time Warner informed us there are no signs of packet loss but still unable to pinpoint the problem.  Sometimes users close out of VPN client completely, reopen several times and then it works.  However it's never really consistent enough and hasn't been the last few weeks.  No configuration changes have been made to ASA at all.  Furthermore, the Cisco Ipsec VPN client version is: 5.0.70
Directly below is our current running config (modded for public).  Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Otherwise, if everything looks good...then I will defer back to our ISP Time Warner:
