WRT400N - frequent disconnects on Windows 7 Enterprise
I work from home for a software company, so I'm constantly online transferring data and talking to customers via Skype & a Cisco IP Phone. I've got my work laptop PC (running Win7 Enterprise) connected to the WRT400N using a LAN cable (wireless is for a MacBook Pro my wife uses). The WRT400N is updated to the latest firmware.
The problem I'm having is that I'm getting disconnected throughout the day, and nothing short of power cycling the wireless router is fixing the problem. I've tried disabling and re-enabling the LAN adapter, ipconfig /release and /renew, and rebooting the laptop. It seems that each time, I am forced to power cycle the router to restore connectivity.
I used to use the wireless adapter on the laptop, but due to frequent disconnects I moved the router to sit directly next to my laptop and just hooked up the LAN cable. I discovered that my Comcast modem was actually dropping connectivity so I had them swap it out for an updated model and since then I can see that it's staying connected (and yes, I'll admit I'm doing the n00b test of watching the LEDs to see if they're blinking off whenever I lose connectivity now). As I type this I have actually switched back to using the wireless adapter which hasn't disconnected in the past 6 hours (a record).
Long-winded so I apologize. I really would like to resolve this issue somehow but I'm not a network expert by any means and I've exhausted my limited ability to troubleshoot.
Try to follow the below mentioned settings and then check.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter. Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case.
Click on the Wireless tab
Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed.
Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbors network.
Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA2, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA2 Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be equal to or more that 8 characters...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings.

WRT400N Frequent disconnects and now Connection Not even Viewable
We purchased this router looking for the speed and ability to have 2.4 and 5gh at the same time. Have 5 laptops connected but only 2-3 used at a time. 2 dell, 1 Toshiba and 1 vaio. Once I installed it took an hour to get the internet to be recognized and wireless to work. SInce then every time I put the computer on sleep or shut down the internet disconnects. The reconnect was usually fast , maybe 5-ten seconds. However yesterday we started experiencing the internet connection dropping all together and the router/connection not even being recognized on the wireless option in the Network and Sharing section of Windows 7. I have never seen where you can't even click on the connection to diagnose etc. As of this morning there was still no connectivity. I have rebooted the DSL (Brighthouse Cable) modem, rebooted and rest the router numerous times. The internet might show back up for a few seconds, and then drop again. I'm two seconds away from returning this puppy as it's only been a few days since we got it. Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Login to the setup page of your Router and below change the MTU size to 1350 and click on save settings, then under the wireless tab change the wireless channel to 1 or 11 and click on save settings. Now again try to connect to your wireless network.

Ichat, AIM, Adium frequently disconnect using Airport
Ichat, AIM, & Adium all frequently disconnect when using Airport. I use a Linksys Wireless Router with an Airport extreme card. When directly connected to the router, I have no problem. Using a PC with Windows XP, AIM operates fine. Safari and Firefox work fine, although sometimes I receive errors connecting to pages, when I try again no problem. Using any of the chat programs, I lose connection, but then can reconnect. After a few times, the AOL servers will prevent login.
I use COMCAST Cable internet service. My wireless router uses WEP encryption. I would switch to an AIrport Base station, but doubt it would correct the problem.
I have had this problem previously, but it corrected itself. now it is making chat programs unusable.
Any ideas?Hi John,
By default Linksys units normally have the IP address of 192.168.1.1
Is this true for both your units or have you changed one of them ?
You may only find this out if you connect directly to the Modem one.
Also you have not said if only one of them is doing DHCP.
Example pic 3 on this page. This shows this device as getting it own contact IP address by DHCP (like from your ISP). Further down the page in the pic it shows the device is also acting as a DHCP server to the local net.
If your router is set up like this it could be getting an IP address usng DHCP like this device shows and that would tend to mean that the Modem is acting as a DHCP server as well.
If both devices still have the default IP addresses you will have conflicts, which probably explians the problems you have.

Explorer crashes frequently on two Windows 7 64 machines
Hi,
I have two users on the network who are experiencing frequent crashes of Windows Explorer. In all cases the crashes are being caused by invalid write I have been collecting crash dumps and trying to analyze them in Visual Studio 2013, but without
success.
Is it still possible to upload a crash dump for analysis by Andre or another Microsoft expert?
I'm pasting a sample dump summary below. So far the Exception information has always involved an invalid write operation.

WRT54G V7 Frequent Disconnections
I've read alot about frequent disconnections using wireless routers but i've tried all sorts of different settings and find it disappointing that the wireless router (WRT54G V7) won't 'keep alive' the connection when it should.
I'm on a WinXP Pro SP2 workstation (AMD + Epox if it matters) on a built-in LAN adapter using Linksys WRT54G V7. Using my DSL directly, Windows automatically redials if I don't have a connection and will keep trying for as many times I have in configured.
When I started using Linksys Wireless router, Windows no longer prompts for login to the DSL (PPPoE) whenever I lose the connection. I don't know why. I Linksys configured to 'keep alive' for 30 secs and I've tried the following with no improvments to my situation:
- enabling/disabling the DHCP Server
- manually entering DNS 1, DNS 2
- MTU is auto
- Tried configuring both Mixed/G-only
- all other options are default to enable my laptop on wireless
Does anyone know what I can do to force Linksys to check if there is a live connection, and redial if there isn't? What's annoying is that I have to restart my workstation to get the connection back. I've tried manually disconnecting through the Linksys admin console but when IE starts returning the message 'page cannot be found' then everything is disconnected.
I've only had the router for less than a month (got it as a present for myself) and I got was disconnections. Again, if I plug the DSL directly, whenever I don't have a connection for some reason, it will automatically redial and I'm connected again. Linksys WRT54G V7 doesn't do that.
Help!Hi...
Try reseting and reconfiguring the router. Also set it up as keep alive specify the redial period. Change the MTU setting of the router to manual and specify the value as 1300. Also the PPPoE connection on the computer should be disabled when router is dialing. -

Frequent disconnection from services
Hi, for years I've been a satisfied customer, but recently my internet, (along with my television signal and phone) would stop working.
Strangely enough it happens at exactly XX:05 and XX:33, about every thirty minutes.
I'm not completely sure what is going on, but the WAN Coax signal on my MI424-WR will turn off, television will black out, and my phone will ring but with no one on the other end.
They will eventually restore to normal, but this is quite annoying. Can anyone help me out?Sorry to hear about the frequent disconnects. Sounds like an issue with your ONT with all the services effected like that. I have sent you a private message to get more information.

Error trying to install windows enterprise 8.1 with bootcamp 5.1.2
Hi,
I have a 64 bit windows iso file for enterprise 8.1 and it is 64 bit I am running the latest bootcamp and getting the following error:
"Boot Camp only supports 64-bit Windows installation on this platform. Please use a ISO file for 64-bit Windows installation."
I'm confused bc some people on these forums are able to mount the windows enterprise OS but say not all functions are working. I can't seem to get beyond the initial install part.
I also have an older version of bootcamp 4 and anther iso for 64bit windows 7.1 also enterprise but i'm not sure since i'm running the latest os and news MacBook Pro retina if this could cause some issues.
I need to run windows for my work and these are the only licenses they supply.
Thanks!
Aislingnot sure what enterprise 8.1 is vs windows 8.1 pro but maybe it's not supported
in which caseI would advice you to try installing it in a virtual machine like virtualbox (free) or parallels or vmware -
Dear all,
Hello.
Recently I had to set up a LiveCycle ES 8.0 on Tradiitonal Chinese (zhTW) Windows Enterprise Server 2003. Using turnkey & express configuration, installation was actually a breeze.
However, after installation, I discovered that Rights Mangement ES was not functioning at all. I recalled from another installation that a global policy set would be created upon installation. This global policy set was just not there to start with. To make the matter worse, no policy could be created. Everytime such attempt was made, "An internal server error has occurred; please contact your Administrator." had always been the failure message. A look at JBoss server.log states:
com.adobe.edc.server.errors.exception.EDCServerSystemException: nullorigin: | [com.adobe.edc.server.businesslogic.audit.AuditManagerBean] errorCode:1281 errorCodeHEX:0x501 message:No such event definition exists | severity: 1
at com.adobe.edc.server.businesslogic.audit.AuditManagerBean.logServerEvent(AuditManagerBean .java:427)
at com.adobe.edc.server.businesslogic.audit.AuditManagerBean.logServerEventTrans(AuditManage rBean.java:541)
more lines ...
Not only that I was unable to create policies at all, the configuration items under Rights Management just does not work. For every configuration that I tried to make change, I would always, upon saving configuration, see "A server error has occurred; please contact your Administrator." error message.
Installing and use of LiveCycle ES 8.0 on English version of Windows Server 2003, Windows XP SP2, or SuSe Linux 10 did not produce the errors mentioned above.
I just wonder if Adobe LiveCycle ES 8 is currently supported on non-English OS? If it's indeed supported, what measures do I have to take to remedy the problems pertaining to Rights Management?
Thanks for any input or suggestion.
Paul

http://www.nti.com.tw/Hi Paul,
Unfortunate this will not work. Traditional Chinese is not a supported operating system for the server. We support English, French, German and Japanese. In saying that most things do work but we know that Rights management is more challenged then other products in this way. If this is a production system and you want support you have to goto a supported language on your OS. If this is more for development and evaluation you can try a couple things. One thing would be to change your local and regional settings to English.
In our testing we actually did not try Traditional Chinese, we tried Simplified Chinese, basically we were hoping it would just work, but we saw multiple errors in the AdminUI and the effort in fixing it did not fit in the schedule.
I apologise about the lack of support for you OS/Language combination.
Kind Regards C

High SNR, frequent disconnects and under 15mbit sy...
I had Infinity 1 installed two weeks ago but the performance has been pretty bad.
I have the following problems:
1. I get disconnected at least twice a day and usually once every 2 hours or so.
2. My upload SNR margin seems to be stuck at 18+.
3. Even download SNR margin seems to vary a lot from about 5.8 to 8+.
4. About 25% of the time I sync at under 15mbit, which is meant to be the minimum for Infinity 1.
My current stats are below (they're about the best I've had):
5. VDSL uptime: 0 days, 10:18:11
6. Data rate: 797 / 15871
7. Maximum data rate: 1217 / 16023
8. Noise margin: 18.3 / 5.8
9. Line attenuation: 0.0 / 30.9
10. Signal attenuation: 0.0 / 25.1

Phone support said that "2-3 disconnects a day is normal" which I certainly hope is not true. Regardless, they said they'd monitor our line. Which is all they've been doing for 3 weeks.
Our disconnects are almost certainly related to wind and rain. It will disconnect within minutes of rain starting which suggests an above ground fault.
Some days are sunny with zero disconnects, but most have 2-15 disconnects a day.
Last Saturday a 2 hour long downpour resulted in disconnects every 3-4 minutes making Infinity unusable. Support said they'd continue to monitor our line...

Download results from the BT speed tester are under the 15mbit minumum. The upload is below even the low impacted estimate.
Download Speed (Mbps): 12.63
Upload Speed (Mpbs): 0.67
Ping Latency(ms): 39.63
What does it take for somebody to actually inspect the line instead of remote monitoring from India? -
WIndows Enterprise 8.1 - MDT 2013
Hi All
I'm using MDT2013 and ADK 8.1.
I am trying to create a new Windows 8.1 ent build and am having a few strange issues...
I have created a standard TS for the initial build, when I deploy the TS everything works as expected except the build doesn't seem to have all the Modern UI apps installed. At first I assumed this may be a slight change MS made and the builtin
administrator account just doesn't have them installed anymore.. But when I create a new local user account and log in I still don't have any of the apps installed. All that is present on the start screen is IE - Store - File explorer - Skydrive
and desktop, things like weather, news, sport and so on don't seem to be installed in the default user profile..
I manually built a machine from the media and the apps do seem to be installed. I know during the default install the default admin account gets disabled and a new account is created. This account does have all the apps installed, so on here
when you add a new user these apps are present..
Am I missing something here (hopefully something simple :-))? is there something specific I need to add to my unattend.xml file to allow the apps to be installed? do I need to create a new user account during the build to allow the apps to install?
I followed the same process when I created a windows 8.0 build and didn't have any of these issues.
Thanks for any advice.. SimonI have had the same issues. We are just migrating a school to full windows enterprise 8.1 -- God Help us.
The first issues we had were related to USMT5 not beiong available. Disabling these steps from the task sequence rectified it and the build to 8.1 is now very quick. However there are no APPS such as News and many more - they're simply not present on the
machine.
We have 150 machines to automatically set running on Friday night 20th 12 -2013 .... the expectation is we can complete the whole build on Monday and Tuesday and be able to eat a Turkey the following day. I'm worried this isn't going to be the case and I'm
expecting Turkey sandwiches.
Enough laughter:
New build of MDT 2013 complete with all the latest ADKs associated with it including VAMT 3.1 (SQL) becasue that's the only quick way to licence them. (keys not compatable with older versions or even when wrapped into MDT TS).
Using a USB drive to deploy the same media results in a good install. Auto build using MDT gives you just 5 Apps.
1. IE
2. Store
3. File Explorer
4. SkyDrive
5. Desktop
That's it -- no good to me or many others on here by the looks. It would appear from reading JECOMPUTER4MEs last post that he may be onto something with the administrator accounts, however this surely can't be regarded as a good fix and it's certainly
not something my timescales allow for. In all honesty it would be quicker using USB media and then manually carrying out a domainjoin.
A few of the apps are available to pin to the start. Which is fine as we can sort this using GPO, these apps are things like Travel and Photos. However there are still a plethera of standard apps missing such as news, weather, calendar and finance to mention
a few.
Watch this space, I'm having to work for a fix as soon as possible and hope someone can post some helpful pointers into this forum soon.
Thanks

HH5 / Infinity 2 - Frequent disconnects
Hi,
I had infinity installed back in October, and things were ticking over quite happily at first. In the last 6-8 weeks, I have been getting fairly frequent disconnects, averaging 2-3 a day, but peaking at 6-10 in a single day at its worst. From within the house, the HH looks to go offline for about 15 secs, then come back up and my connection to the internet is restored. As I work from home, this can often be more than a trivial annoyance, especially if I am working on a remote system or talking to a customer.
I cannot see any obvious cause from here. There is no apparent noise on the line, no odd devices plugged in or anything else which I think would explain this. I have included some information below which might be of use to people more knowledgeable than me. If more information is needed, just say.
Any thoughts gratly appreciated,
Thanks,
Rich

From http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/:
The following is from a ping polling tool running from a machine connected directly to the HH. It is set to ping google DNS 8.8.8.8 on a 1s frequency (sorry Google, but figured you could handle the extra load). The red block shows packet loss, lasting for 15s. At the same time, the HH also became unpingable, also reporting 100% packet loss. This is exactly the same behaviour I see each time.Looks like the dlm as intervened and the speeds capped around that 54meg level.
Personnally I'd raise a fault & see if the line checks come back with anything that might need an openreach visit.
https://www.bt.com/consumerFaultTracking/public/faults/reporting.do?pageId=21
Also check if there is anything up locally with openreach's new checker tool.
http://www.homeandwork.openreach.co.uk/problems-with-your-phone-or-broadband/search.aspx
If the test come back with no fault found, then possibly research using a openreach modem with the hh5 or get a 3rd party non-bt all-in-one. These are the two main fixes people use on here.
You've probably noticed a few of simular threads about HH5 disconnects. For what ever reason the hh5 can be great on some lines but very very mischievous on others (including mine).
The Openreach modems do seem to calm things down and with being bt based everying just works including the tv box thingy with troublesome mulicasting suff. -
Hi
Lately for the past couple weeks, my modem is frequently disconnecting and reconnecting and it is driving me nuts. The time it will stay online is random, ranging from a few minutes to a few hours. The re-connecting only takes about 20-30 seconds. It is not a phone service problem because I still have a dial tone even when I got disconnected (though I do hear some noise). Verizon techs has come to my house more than 3 times, each time claiming that the problem will never happen again. The problem would seem fixed for a day or two, but then the disconnections would happen again.
Please help!

I'll wait a couple more days to see if I lost any connection before checking that this problem has been resolved.

I am not sure but - if that resolves the issue, my guess are because the modem is

#2 OR - the modem does not have a stable firmware on it. Maybe an update would fix it?
